Used to come here when living locally, at one time Hicks Brasserie. When we arrived there was a tech issue re card payments - no matter, we went to the the nearest cashpoint and obtained funds. Just as well we weren't in any hurry - service was, shall we say, relaxed, to the extent that one of us had to keep going up to the bar to get menus, order drinks, food etc as the staff were definitely in no rush to attend to the sparse number of diners (and there was no-one in the Fig restaurant when we looked). Pretty limited menu, however we'd booked and Chippy was busy so we stayed put. What we had (mains a kind of deconstructed Caesar salad, a couple of puds, plus a drinkie each - no offer of table water) was decent enough but not exactly generous and, given it was a Sunday, sadly no nod to any Sunday fayre. Overall, disappointing - and there are plenty of other options in CC.

We made a reservation several weeks ago - we were looking for a nice formal dining experience for the four of us, during our visit to Chipping Campden and the Fig restaurant appeared to offer that. I booked online, and rang specifically to confirm our reservation was at Fig (NOT the Bistro) So we were very disappointed to be telephoned at lunchtime yesterday, telling us we could not eat in Fig, as there was a wedding in that venue. We pointed out that that this could hardly be a new development, but were told that the people at reception would not have been aware of the wedding as it is a separate booking system! Had we been told weeks ago when we made the reservation, we could have come on for example the Friday instead. Or booked elsewhere. This was all rather gave the appearance of being very badly organised. But at this late point we had no choice but to accept the alternative offer of a table in the Bistro. On arrival we were offered both menus, which was fine. However, things soon went downhill. It was very evident that the staff were overwhelmed by the demands of the wedding party, leaving little time and attention for restaurant paying guests. Eventually we were also brought drinks and wine menus, and our order for both cocktails and food was taken simultaneously. Menus were removed, including the wine menu - we never saw it again. We became very frustrated seeing some of our own drinks ignored and waiting on the bar counter, whilst staff served a constant stream of wedding guests drinks instead. Eventually, after sitting at our table with only a glass of water each for 45 minutes, our starters arrived, closely follow by our cocktails - what we had planned to be our pre-dinner drinks. We were then obliged to eat our starters whilst drinking martinis - not actually a pleasant mix. Our starters plates were swiftly cleared and our main courses hurriedly arrived and we were still trying to drink our martinis! We never did get the chance to order wine. Visits from any staff were very hurried. The whole experience was becoming most irritating - it was plain that the staff, though nice enough, simply could not cope. But worse was yet to come - unfortunately a young bridesmaid was violently sick on the floor next to our table and whilst we can appreciate this was very unfortunate for the poor child, you can surely imagine how extremely unpleasant this was for us as diners. Despite pleas from her older sister, no member of staff came to any assistance to clear this up, and in the end the girls wedged the door open and left it there. This was by now intolerable for us, we called for the bill and paid and left. A member of staff offered to fetch the manager, but to be honest, we couldn’t wait to get out of the place. In summary, this has been one of the worst organised, and badly managed food situations we have ever had the misfortune to encounter. The staff did explain that the issues were due to the wedding - well if that is the case, they should not have taken any restaurant bookings. This should not have been our problem. As for leaving vomit on the floor next to diners, that is absolutely inexcusable. We were frankly, disgusted. There is no way we can recommend this poorly run estsblishment.

Waited over a hour for a simple burger as my order was lost! Not acceptable as Bistro was empty so clearly no monitoring of kitchen from bar staff who take orders!

Abysmally slow service, provided by waiters that always seemed to be chatting, despite there being other tables waiting to be served. I've been a gourmet diner all my life and I can hardly remember such chaotic service. There was clearly no line of communication amongst the staff, as result two of our orders were wrong and the group had to leave hot food, grow cold waiting for the corrections on the previous two orders. That is despite the long wait for our drinks and food. General impression is there isn't real leadership or orientation for the young staff, that despite being polite were a bit lost and all over the place. Saw someone with spiky hair and suit, at one moment that looked like he could be a manager, but he ducked and scurried away as quickly as he appeared. Food on a whole was 'ok', this was a real let down. The food used to be really good, we dined there previously in the spring and summer and had really good experiences. It just seems unnecessarily over priced now.

I checked out the online menu before booking and was very impressed; always a deal breaker. On the night, we were not seated in the Bistro, but in the hotel dining room, and the menu was completely different and more expensive - too pretentious for our liking. I thought we were in the wrong restaurant and queried it with the waiter, but he said that the dining room and the Bistro were the same and had the same menu. I said that it wasn't the one I'd checked out online, and he apologised and said they hadn't updated it. As we had someone disabled with us, and it was getting late and I had no idea if there would be a table free at another restaurant nearby, we had to pay out the extra money for a menu we didn't want. The food was very nice, actually, when they got it right - I said I could not eat green garnish or leaves, but the food was served with them. I was beginning to despair by then. It was a joint 80th birthday celebration for our guests, but it turned out to be a rather fraught evening. I see that they have now updated their menu.

Was in the cotswolds for a romantic weekend and booked this in anticipation of a nice meal out to make our weekend complete but was left sadly disappointed! Let face it its not cheap to have a meal out and a bottle of wine so we at least expect a bit of a smile and some friendly patter rather than what we got which was mostly ignored with our finished plates left in front of us for nearly 30 minutes per course , There was no pouring of wine or asking how our food was either . My hubby had calamari which was nice but nothing special I had the mozeralla and it was not nice it was a large ball and all runny in the middle and the sun dried tomatoes were grey ? My husband had steak which was OK but there was about 7 chips I had the risotto which was also grey and not great on presentation or taste for a total bill of £88 Id really expect a lot nicer and we got up to walk out after getting fed up waiting for the very miserable waitress to take payment . The atmosphere was also very lacking we sat in the back part as there was some very noisy customers in the front bit but the decor and ambiance was zero and like being in some 80s wine bar , I feel disappointed as this was supposed to be a special meal out . There are other places in Chipping Campdean that look a lot nicer than this place and wish we had gone to one of those instead of having rubbish food and being ignored !!

Started off ok being seated at our choice of table however once we were handed over to the restaurant staff they were so slow it was ridiculous. We were asked if we wanted our wine poured which I would have thought was standard! After finishing our starters it took about 25mins for starter plates to be removed even though the staff were walking past our table, then same again for the mains. (Steak came with about.9 chips stacked in a square to make it look arty) They weren't particularly busy so no idea why they were so slow. On asking for the bill and leaving my card clearly on show after 20mins we just got up to leave to pay at the bar on the way out which prompted someone to run over with the card machine probably thinking we were going to leave without paying. Food was ok but wouldnt return because I just don't have the patience tbh

I went here for a family meal at lunchtime. I had the 6oz steak which was ok, but nothing to shout about with fries which were rather dry. My Dad had the smoked salmon which was a ‘main course’ but when it arrived it was absolutely tiny - it was not even worthy of being a starter it was that small! He asked for a side order of potatoes - the portion size was minute and was served in a tiny ramekin bowl! The service was extremely slow and the waiter and waitress who served us looked like they didn’t want to be there and lacked any personality! We got so fed up of being neglected after our main course that my husband went to the bar to help himself to the desert menu. Again, there was a very long wait to order a desert, and another long wait until the deserts arrived! We also had to go up to the bar to pay the bill, as we were ignored! The restaurant was very quiet, so there was no excuse for the poor service! We left the restaurant feeling frustrated and still hungry! This is such a shame because thedecor with an open fire was lovely, and cleanliness of the restaurant and toilets was great!

We stayed a couple of nights mid week and I thought the hotel was an excellent choice. From the efficient staff to the warm atmosphere, food, spa and facilities we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel. The bed was very large and comfortable. The bathroom had plenty of hot water, shower, bath together with dressing gown and slippers which are lovely extras and everything was to an excellent standard. Our room was on the front of the hotel and I was pleased I could open the windows and there was no noise. The room also had tea making facilities and good quality biscuits. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of variety and the staff were helpful and efficient. We used The Bistro Restaurant (part of the hotel) for dinner on both nights and the food was very good quality and delicious and we liked the atmosphere. A short walk from Silk Mill Cottage - our accomodation in Chipping Camden - made an ideal location for dinner with our daughter and her partner. The Bistro on the Square has a fabulous menu that is regularly updated and is reasonably priced. The star of the show is definitely the delicious and very well presented food. It was good to be offered a choice of lemon or cucumber water too, on a very hot day. The service was initially excellent - very friendly and helpful. However once we had been served our tea that was the end of our interaction with the staff - no offer of more tea or sandwiches, which is usually the case in hotels in my experience and no checking everything was OK. We were last to leave the dining area and the man then clearing the tables seemed oblivious to our presence and was very unhelpful when I asked for directions to the Ladies. Maybe he was just having a bad day! Yes I would go back for the food and the environment and I hope the service blip was just that.

We went for dinner and whilst the service was friendly, the food is massively overpriced. My husband had the sea bream which he mentioned was nice but we did have an issue with the wild mushroom risotto which was literally 12 fork fulls for £16. A tiny portion. For over £1 per mouthful, I expect something special and it wasn't. A shared garlic bread baguette is something uninspiring also. We have dined in more elite establishments across the country and are happy to pay whatever money for an enjoyable dining experience, but I do have an issue of being taken advantage of.

We arrived for dinner and it took 15 minutes to get all drinks due to a barrel being changed... one of us changed beers so they could get a drink sooner and go to our beautifully laid table and we found later (when home) that they had charged for both! The service was disappointing and strained, questions as to wine and food were greeted with irritation (they had been busy earlier apparently) which was a shame as we were celebrating an achievement and a friendly attentive service would have made the evening memorable for all the right reasons. We spent over £200 for 4 mains, 4 sweets and drinks (inc the beer we didn't receive), the fish dishes and sweets were particularly good, unfortunately the service tainted our overall experience which is disappointing as we've been before and it was much friendlier which is why we chose to revisit.

Very nice staff and very welcoming. We stopped for nibbles and a drink which were tasty and the wine was better than average - white house was certainly adequate. Would return when in area

Our small tour group had dinner at the bar bistro since we stayed there for two nights (great lodging). My wife and I shared (had a big late lunch) the following and our ratings were.

Great service and good food, although cheese board was extremely small and well overpriced. Had the mushroom risotto which was lovely. Washed it down with a gin mare which was gorgeous!

Called in for breakfast. Public car park and on street parking outside. Think there may have been one small step into the building. We waited for five minutes before a member of staff came into the restaurant from the kitchens. Service was professionally 'friendly'. The 'full breakfast' was well cooked and presented nicely but disappointing for the price. £12 for a sausage, 2x bacon, half small tomato and half a mushroom. Toasted sandwich was just toast with bacon inserted - very dry. Turned out to be an expensive breakfast but I suppose the clue was in the name - Bistro. Not enough of an experience to want to return I'm afraid.

Beautiful spot for lunch. The food was delicious, with a wide selection on the menu. The service was great, with waiters looking after us all afternoon. Highly recommend visiting anytime, a relaxing spot in a very pretty village.

In town for lunch with a friend. Stylish and comfortable restaurant. We had their toasted sandwiches which were ver good. Swiftly served and nicely presented. Very palatable white house wine. All reasonably priced for Chipping Campden

I had lunch in the lovely gardens of the Cotswold House hotel with friends last weekend. The food was delicious and came very quickly. There were several waiters keeping an eye out so we could always get drinks very quickly without having to go back inside. The gardens would make a great location for an early evening drink if the suns out and you are Chipping Camden.

We love coming here for lunch in the summer as we love the garden. We went there again yesterday, but because it's still early in the season, I rang and asked if the garden was open. I was told that it was but that we would have to order in the bar and then the food would be brought to us. We had no problem with that, so we drove to Chipping Campden with the express purpose of having lunch at the Bistro.

Came here, instead of going to Huxleys, for a change. We always go to Huxleys as it is always consistently excellent, but we thought we would give another place a chance! This was a mistake. It was very, very quiet, which we thought a little odd, but we were on the early side. We were given menus by a very sweet and polite young girl. She seemed a little nervous and perhaps new, but she was really lovely. Ordered a club sandwich and my sister ordered the Brie and Bacon sandwich. The food came quickly and looked nice on the surface. Mine, to be absolutely fair, was ok, although as I continued to eat, the rind on the bacon, was so incredibly hard I am surprised I didn't break a tooth!!! This was off putting. But I just took it out and cut the rind off myself. My sister, literally had to take ALL of the bacon out of her sandwich, she said hers was disgusting. So she just ate the sandwich with the brie in it. When I asked for the bill when the waitress was clearing our plates, she could see the huge pile of bacon on my sisters plate, and asked if everything was ok, I politely told her mine was ok, but that my sister (she had gone to the loo) had really not enjoyed hers at all, and could not physically eat the bacon because of the bacon rind. She at this point said lots of people like the fat, I explained it wasn't the bacon fat that was the problem it was the rind! At which point she just said 'oh ok I'll let the kitchen know'! Her attitude was appalling. I didn't expect anything or money off, but I did not appreciate the way I was spoken too and an acknowledgement that there was a mistake might have been a more professional approach. We will not make the same mistake again and will return to Huxleys next time we are in CC.

Popped in for a coffee. Very pleasant surroundings, polite attentive staff and a shortbread biscuit too ! We enquired if a nearby N.T. garden was within walking distance It was not, but we were invited to stroll around the hotels gardens. We did and the garden was lovely. This sort of courtesy doesn't happen often. We were most impressed. The town is one of the most picturesque we visited in the Cotswold, but not heaving with tourists. It would be hard to find a better hotel in a better location.

We ate here on the first night of our two night break at the Cotswold House hotel and we weren't disappointed. The menu was well balanced with good choices for everyone. The food was beautifully cooked, service was extremely friendly and the wine choices gave options for all purses.

My fiance, parents and I came to the venue to meet with Frankie (part of the events team) regarding our upcoming wedding in October. Frankie was very accommodating and the general manager even popped in to introduce himself. Frankie then sent us an email with what we discussed within 2 hours of leaving which is very organised. We also viewed the room which were large and clean. We then had lunch, which was truly lovely, my dad who loves his traditional food cleaned his plate when he had the tandoori chicken skewers with salad (my dad doesn't eat salad). It was seasoned well and we all tried some. They recently got a 5 star for environmental health too. Can't wait for my wedding and thanks again to Frankie and Paul

The Bistro is quality dining located in the Cotswolds House Hotel. Of the two restaurants located within the hotel, the Bistro is more casual and moderate in price. The menu is pretty broad and includes a large number of small bite or appetizer type items. There is a full bar and a good wine selection available. Service is good and entree prices are largely in the £14-18 per range.

Was visiting the Cotswold and decided to have dinner and drinks before heading home. Great ambience and wonderfully cooked food that should be rewarded. Service was good and the cocktails are done with desire they obviously train their staff to do these correctly as most places normally cannot get it right. They have obviously spent some money on this place and look forward to trying their a la Carte restaurant next time. Thanks everyone for looking after us.

Terrible reception on arrival, no apology that our reserved table was not ready, terrible cocktails; Bloody Mary had not a celery stalk in sight and the cosmopolitans could’ve caused a fire it was so potent! When we commented on the undrinkable state some of the drinks were, Barman/waiter/manager?? offered to change them and moaned to other bar guests within eye view of our table. Tapas menu advertised nowhere to be seen; needless to say, we paid our bill and went onto the maharaja Indian restaurant which was lively, friendly, accommodating and delicious :)

This is a really welcome, beautifully renovated addition to the area. A warm and friendly local with stone walls and open fires. Food is very good, modern pub style at a very reasonable price for The Cotswolds. Staff are very friendly and efficient and the clientele are a great combination of locals at the bar, people eating and walkers, cyclists etc calling in for a pint. Been several times since it reopened and all have been good.

Served a Biarra Moretti, didn’t look right, went back to the bar to complain, was told there was nothing wrong with the pint and no chance of changing. Batman very rude.
