Excellent fish and chips ,proper chips ,fish excellent flakes ,the owners are lovely,service again brilliant,grub spot on I’ve just moved there and it’s my regular place,,

Stayed at nearby caravan site & found this not far away. It said it was award winning & it really was! Amazing fish & chips, cooked fresh to order but didn't take long & the man who played rock paper & scissors with my partners daughter was so good friendly & lovely to talk to! 5**

Found this place through trip advisor. Really lovely staff and very helpful. They pointed us in the direction of the couples statue which we would never have known about or seen without their help. Best of all we went to see it while they cooked our fish then went back and sat looking at the sea whilst we ate our meal. Very nice! Portions were very big. I and my wife could not finish it which is really unusual but at least our dog got the chance to try a little and he really enjoyed it too. Could not recommend this place highly enough.

Went in to pick up some Fish and Chips to take to the beach. Fish cooked to order and was delicious - fresh and flaky with some great batter. Great chips and peas too. Excellent food and great value. Enjoyed the chat with the friendly owners. Definitely recommend - but be quick!

Chips were brown and soggy, looks like they were yesterday’s leftovers reheated. Most of them went in the bin. Sausages were ok though

Delicious well cooked food here, large portions and mushy peas freshly cooking and ladled on. None of the microwave stuff. Added bonus, they do large traditional lunches, just turn up with your plate! All at very reasonable prices and cheerful, helpful staff.

My cousin and I used to visit our grandmother in Newbiggin 50 years ago, so the beach holds special memories. We bought some fish and chips from The Corner Plaice to eat on the beach. Whilst they were being fried from fresh, the owner proved herself very knowledgeable on local history, and the food was great too.

Spent a week at Newbiggen by the Sea visited this fish shop twice lovely friendly couple running it. Everything cooked fresh what more can you want oh and huge portions Even delayed trip home so we could have then one last time

We had a chippy tea from here one night. Most expensive chippy we’ve ever had £19.50 for 2 chip butties and 2 fish and chips. The chips were greasy and tasteless so I didn’t eat much. Disappointing.

Travelled up from nottingham for a holiday an made the mistake of stopping here worst chips ever u get asked if u want salt and vinegar on it all and the lady absolutely drowns it in both of them the chips were so salty it was disgusting an they were so greasy aswell an didnt even taste of chips! i had chicken nuggets that had like a curry sauce mixed in with them they were horid! And strange! I wouldve gone back and demanded a refund if it hadnt of been a long day travelling my freind wanted kebab and was told they had no meat on tonight! Half the things on the menu they didnt have an its the first chippy ive even walked in to that doesnt sell battered sausages kebab or pukka pies place was dirty an the staff clearly werent bothered an the curry sauce and gravy were watery awful awful.place the worst chippy ive even been to an so dissapointing for our first night away

Staying for a weekend in a caravan. Visited this place. Should have known by the filth inside and greasy counter. Man serving was dirty in a dirty t shirt, lady who came in to serve just as bad. Sausages defrosting where cooked food should be. We had 2 fish and chips and 1 sausage with curry sauce. Sauce from the hot plate was microwave warmed for us in a polystyrene container. We ate the food, was greasy but nice. 6 hours later the whole group had the squits for 2 days. The dog had a taste of fish and also had the squits.

Just called on to get fish and chips after a day out in Beamish ... and wow, did we choose the best chippy. The fish was cook fresh and the chips were amazing. My partner said that the batter was the best he has ever tasted. His son said they were the best chips he has ever tasted. I think they were the best fish and chips ever. The owners are lovely and friendly with great advice if places of interest too. Pay them a visit, you won't regret it.

Had the worst chips ever from here,so glad we didn’t waste the money on fish as we put the chips straight in the bin.Very , very greasy and just tasted weird!

On holiday at the moment here from Ireland and we Just got a takeaway from here. Food really delicious and very good value for money. Really generous portions. Service was excellent and staff were very friendly, even helping me with were to visit in the area with the children. Would highly recommend

Smashing friendly staff couldn't do more to help us organise ourselves. Supper and a dog walk on the beach which is 2 minutes from the chippy door with parking outside the shop. Freshly cooked cod and chips. Massive portions, no mushy peas but we had garden peas instead.

The website advertises a closing time of 7pm on a Sunday. We rushed out to get to there in time for some chips, only to find it closed at quarter to 7. Closing times clearly need updating as apparently the actual closing time on a sunday is anyone's guess

Just had another take away sunday lunch on 2 of our own plates. These are the best beef sunday dinners in area. My wife splits her dinner there is that much on plates. Always great choice of meats and loads of different vegs 2 home made yorkshires. Great value also.

Been going there several times during season, absolutely avoid out of season. Soo greasy had to throw food away. This is the best way to loose customers

Visited the corner plaice this evening and what lovely hospitality even went out of their way and made something that was not on the menu, food was great would definitely recommend, forget the rest just go to the best

Been working down here from Inverness. I called in for chips but ended up getting the special of meatballs which was fantastic. Would highly recommend as staff are friendly and service is quick too. Andy Inverness

Called in today as I’m working in that area l was going to have the fish and chips but there was beef stroganoff on it was a amazing so I purchased one extra for my wife and she agreed it was fantastic and the staff were really helpful and friendly I will defiantly call again thank you

Worst chips we have ever had.greasy.soft.stuck together.not a crispy one amongst them.first time of using these as was passing through.never again. Rifting up on us as we speak. Certainly not cooked fresh that's for sure.

We were here on a family day out from Durham and came across this place, super friendly staff, they made a table inside for us so we could sit in as was cold outside& they even stayed open longer for us. Excellent food& very generous sizes, we will def be back again ( IOU)

We went in here after reading the reviews, we were so looking forward to our fish supper, and boy were we disappointed, the chips were greasy and very weird shaped, not your usual style of chip, poss pre bought or frozen.....the fish batter was soaking in grease and the whole lot went into the bin. So safe to say we won’t be back

Called in here on a saturday night for take away fish and chips. Although it was close to closing time and there were fish and chips already fried the proprietor went to the trouble of cooking a fresh lot for us and whilst these were cooking we had an entertaing conversation with the proprietor who gave us some useful information about the local area.We then enjoyed the excellent piping hot fish and chips back in our nearby flat.

Staying close by in Ashington we came to the costal town of Newbiggin-by-the-Sea for a walk and fancied fish and chips for lunch so googled nearest fish and chips. This lovely place popped up and we had a great lunch, portion sizes are huge and the owners couldn’t have been more accomodating The lady advised us where was nice to spend our afternoon too as we had already walked across the beach front. The chips were the nicest we have had in a while and the fish too and it was huge! Also proper fish and chip shop peas . Thankyou for a great lunch and definitely worth a visit

Quite an entertainment waiting for fish and chips to go - the couple who own it are a delight. So is their battered cod, lovely fresh skinned fish in a well-seasoned batter. The huge portions of chips are less good and would be far better if cooked to a more crisped level. One portion of those is enough for 3 people!

Whilst spending a few nights at Newbiggin, thought we would drop in and try this chippy. I had fish and chips and my partner had sausage and chips. They were very good with large portions and we thoroughly enjoyed them coupled with the sea air. I would recommend this place and should I be in the area again, I would certainly call in. Best fish and chips in Newbriggin by the Sea, fish was fresh, chips out of this world and service and friendliness top rate. We ate in and had fish chips peas and a cup of tea - magic. Wide range on menu. I would highly recommend.

The food here was good and the owners very friendly, however there were two things that could have been better... The chips were small and thin, shaped more like fast-food fries than propper chippy chips, which probably resulted in how greasy they were. I had to resort to using a fork to eat them they were that slippery. They tasted nice and were very filling, but not really what I'd expect from a chippy.

Stopped there this Sunday at about 3.30/ 4pm after a long, cold & windy dog walk on the beach at Druridge Bay. Lovely people, fish cooked to order and big portions of chips. They have been there for 25 years so obviously doing something right and often!

Was staying locally, passing through on my way to Edinburgh. I was tired after a long day and just wanted a quick feed and off to bed. That's exactly what I got. It's not flash, but I enjoyed my fish supper and chat with the owner. I might have over ordered somewhat, but I beat the challenge laid down and returned an empty plate.

We were up newbiggin by the sea last year and popped in for fish and chips, we thought they lovely, as good a fish and chips we have had. So following year we were up that way again and our first port of call was the corner plaice and certainly wasn't disappointed again. A little fish and chip shop gem.

We stopped off here for Chips after visiting Beamish for the day, the people who served us were chatty, and gave us some good advice about visiting Woodhorn museum, we even got a free bag of fresh chips straight out of the fryer after we'd already been served ours and paid!

Absolutely fantastic..... we have just this minute finished eating our fish and chips on the sea front. We haven't been here for about a year or so and still the best around. ( as you can see from my last review) fish and chips definitely cooked to all our liking. Staff very friendly and welcoming. And next time I won't leave it so long to come back. Staying at Ashington but travelling home from Kielder Water after a long day out we called at The Corner Plaice for tea. Lovely couple serving . Fresh sausages cooked for my doggies and they cooked 2 beautiful fresh chunky fish at the same time. Portion of chips between us and we were stuffed to the gunnels with the most delicious fish and chips around these parts. Thank you Corner Plaice

Popped in Saturday after walking along Druridge Bay, wanted some proper fish and chips and they did not disappoint. Fish and chips twice, fish was cooked fresh and to perfection, the chips were also spot on and the price was very reasonable. Staff were incredibly friendly, pointed us toward the best spots to eat our food with the best view of the coast and cracked on about our dogs. Chatted like we were old friends. Will definitely return when in the area.

Served great fish and chips by a lovely couple who took their time to tell us where to go for a view of the coast while we ate them, they didn't wrap them in a carrier so they didn't sweat and all stick together, they were in the best condition for eating and were excellent. Thanks for the local knowledge

I ventured into this small, fish and chip shop while I was walking out of town, and decided to order a bag of chips for myself. I must say the chips, which is the central, if not basic foundation for a meal from a fish and chip shop, were something to be desired.Fish and chip shops of this nature are, indeed, not high brow cuisine, but even fish and chip shops have standards, and The Corner Plaice thrives on none. The chips were a parody of chips that I've had in the past, from other venues, ones that, seem to have more resource or finesse into their design than what I was presented with.Unless you have to, I wouldn't recommend this fish and chip as the Plaice to visit.

Based on TA reviews thought I would try this place for a change. Fish was good (but no smaller portions offered) if a little firm (was ready cooked so probably perfect when freshly prepared). I agree with fellow reviewer here regarding the black "eyes" in the chips from the potatoes - about 8-10 in the bag. Also the food went very greasy as they cooled suggesting a proportion of fat in the oil? Will revert to Kielder Dr..

Stopped off on our way back to wakefield. Great food served by very friendly people. Also gave us great info on the town and told us to have a look at the beach with our dogs. We did and will definitely be back for a weekend and will be going back to the corner placid for some more lovely fish and chips x

The very first time i've been there. I like to have a portion of chips, wrapped so I can eat them overlooking the sea. They were skinny chips, very greasy with a lot of black bits. The black bits were not caused by cooking they were the bad parts of the potato which had not been removed. It appeared that a member of staff was outside smoking.while I did not enjoy them although the seagulls certainly did.They had the majority. This was my first and last visit

We popped in for some lunch as it was just around the corner from where we were staying and we loved it. We were met by two friendly members of staff who were up for a chat and finding out all about us and where we had come from. It made us feel very welcome. The chips were lovely, my chicken burger was genuinely impressive and the portion sizes were phenomenal. A brilliant choice of fish and chip shops in this town but I wouldn't go to any but this one.

Extremely horrible I would not recommend this to my worse enemy I felt sick after eating Sausage,Chips and gravy.The sausage looked very old and was hard the chips were awful they were bombarded in salt and made me felt sick and had a 6cm black thread in with it and it also contained a black hair my experience was REVOLTING DONOT GOHERE

Lovely friendly service, Fish was so fresh and the chips dry and crispyWe got 2 fish as they were supposed to be smaller than normal.
