Nice friendly local pub with a big beer garden

Sunday dinner fantastic! Really impressed, home cooked and quality dinner. Price is low around £12pp so expected low quality but was all really good and loads of veg. This is not high-end haute cuisine, but that’s obviously not what you’re going to get from Cherwell and £12pp. Think more like your grandma made it, rather than a Michelin star chef… Staff we all lovely too

Completely turned around from just 12 months ago, food was great and service was too.

Good pub with a big beer garden at the back, plenty of inside seating and ample parking spaces. They have a pool table, darts board and a couple of fruit machines. They supposedly do a great Sunday lunch but I've not had a chance to try it yet.

It is a sh**hole, there are 3 things about this this place, Amy the chef top marks, chelli ( think i wrore that correctly) top bar person...Clayton but i think he gone. BAD POINTS Landlady impersonable and so ignorant loves her clickly boring regulars,

Had food in there today and took longer than they told me it would, waited 30minutes the food was bad. I ordered a Sunday dinner with chicken. I got 2 tiny roast potatoes that were burnt and dry. The chicken was full of chicken hair. The yorkshire was cold and one of them cheap frozen ones. The stuffing ball was rang over cooked and hard. Never had a problem with food before in here but I will most definitely not be going here again for food.

Lovely place nice staff Sharon is lovely and have a big grass area for yeh dogs or kids to play while you have a drink and food and soak up the sun and it's just had a face lift with new signs and now it looks smart

Got the granola bowl and it was somewhat sad. Maybe some fruit would make it better. Still a great spot for a cold one and a few packets of scratchings!

The food is amazing and the drink is too perfection. Why more people don't visit this pub I really don't know.x

Food and drink is amazing and not overly expensive, good for family's but the only thing i can say is they needs a swing set/slide for the kids because they have a big grass area and the back that could be made useful and it would attract more families and business, other than that it's a nice pub, cheers guys🥂 🎊

Great Sunday lunch very helpful and friendly staff

The pub serves the community around the area but customers from far afield will be able to relax here with a cold lager, a hot drink or a bite. A marque occupies part of the grounds so social distancing is relatively observed. There is parking on site. Toilets seem well maintained. We used the pub to gather and mingle after a funeral at the nearby Cottingley Hall Crematorium and it was adequate for our needs.

Excellent service for a party of~40. Lovely food and pleasant outdoor seating with a marquee if it rained.

Love my local food and drink excellent and staff are lovely and provide a good service. Went on Friday to watch football had table reserved and table service all night on a tab. A big thumbs up from me!! 👍👍👍 x

Nice pub, but service not so good. Emailed to book for a small party, but no response to three requests. Rung up, got party booked Sent food order prev day, advised we had limited time and wild arrive at 12.15. Arrived on time, but no food until 13.10. It was only snack food. Three men who arrived about 12,20 got their food at 13.30. Just took far too long for basic food that had been ordered day before.

Rude staff and very expensive. Frozen food not even cooked properly. Avoid like the plague. I'm pretty sure there is a drug problem too

Lovely place. Clean. F The staff was very friendly and courteous. Gave complimentary ice cream to my kids. Ordered chicken and veg burger, cod and chips, sausage and mash and garlic bread. Everything was top notch!

Nice cosy welcome every time we've been there, food is also very good, decent sized portions and a good menu to choose from. Check out special offers on grub each day. Not sure all the staff liked my spicy chocolate I let them try 😥

So, I went to the commercial post renovation and was poor I think I reviewed it then. This is a re review. Nice decor. Food amazing for pub lunch to challenge the likes of green King and chains of the like. Beer great always themes and great staff. So. Me and my girlfriend whent in yesterday for an easy meal out. When we arrived a warm welcome as always. To find that the kitchen was shut due to a wake it function earlier that day. We decided to have a drink any way. Then the staff went above and beyond to turn the whole kitchen on to cook us some amazing steaks and nachos perfect to order portions huge. Due to the service I can only do one thing as say if you want a cheap eat with a warm environment get your self here.

Refurbished in 2016, slightly nicer interior but less character, food much more "the same as you can get anywhere" - reminded me of a wetherspoons but with less choice.

There's a bouncy castle in the back! Unfortunately I'm not allowed on it.

Best steak I've had for a long time, and I've eaten in many pubs and restaurants. All staff pleasant and service very good in this re vamped updated pub.

Visited the Top 'Oil in December on a works team lunch. The pub has recently been done out, and I think there's been a change of management/ownership. I was pleased to see that the layout of the pub hasn't changed, the bar is still where it was when I last visited probably 20 years ago, when I lived in Churrill, and the room layout is the same. As it's just reopened it's very clean and tidy. I ordered good old fish, chips, and mushy peas for about £7.95. This is about the same price as the local 'Spoons, and the food was equally as good. I enjoyed my meal there, and was very pleasantly surprised to be charged £2.80 for a pint of Leeds Pale. It's good to see the owners are charging reasonable prices, and not London prices, just because a place has had a lick of paint. We had also been provided with Christmas Crackers as part of our lunch. A nice touch, and appreciated. Due to the time of year I didn't venture outside, but from previous visits there is a large area outside for drinking and kids to run about a bit. I don't know if this is still there, but I will find out during the summer months.

Was my regular haunt back in the seventies with most of my old mates from the Commercial football team at the time. Great memories and a great time.

Delicious Sunday dinner - gorgeous tender meat and tasty trimmings. It's very reasonably priced too so you're getting a real good value for your money. Friendly and helpful staff too. I'm hoping to come back before the rumoured change of owners.

We have visited before and found it to be good , but this time was ridiculous one person ordered a starter and waited a long time for it to be given to another table who had only just sat down the waitress was rude and dismissive saying that they were short staffed another table sent theres back so at this point we walked out after waiting 40 minutes out and went somewhere else

Bar lady has less bar skills than most 4 year olds waited for 50mins for food, foods alright nothing special

Visited yesterday evening with family group (no children). Restaurant was very busy so had a bit of a wait for our meal as staff were rushed off their feet. Well worth it though. Meal was fab, piping hot and delicious. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will be returning soon.

Still as good in 2015! We eat here regularly.best home made comfort food in this area. Great portion size and great value. I.e early bird is 2 meals for £13 n on Thursday night 2 steak 2 puddings n 2 wines for just £22. Excellent.

Was previously a regular for a number of years. Revisited recently and I was not impressed. Drinks over priced, though I think this was always the case. Meals, although fresh produce, freshly cooked and mostly good quality, the portions are oversized, wait is too long and price too high for pub grub. Would be a good idea to reduce portion size and price accordingly and to be given an estimated wait time (we were kept waiting over an hour with only a verbal apology - which really did spoil our evening, especially as this was hard a earnt treat). Will be some time before I consider returning.

We visit here all the time. The £13 for 2 meals offer is fantastic value and there is a lot of choice. The food is always good and it is something to look forward to. We have also been for Sunday lunches and you definitely need to book as it is a very popular place.

Great local only had Sunday lunch the beef and lamb are both really good, nice portion size, drinks prices are reasonable.

Lovely little English pub, central location with parking. Alcohol is a good price and food is 2 for £13. It's my local pub and lovel spending the night in this cosy pub :)
