The Comet Pub in Hastings

We came to Hastings on holiday and found The Comet was 2 minutes away from our Haven site, 100% would recommend, the food is amazing! Ribs so soft they fell off the bone, good kids sausage,peas and chips, my mum is a vegetarian and had an amazing medditerran tart she said it was amazing! My husband had the ham egg and chips and said the eggs were perfect and the ham was lovely! The staff are all very welcoming and friendly! There's a pool table, sports on TV and a large garden out the back, a little green with flowers and lights out the front with a couple of tables, car park and a lovely homely atmosphere! The prices are amazing for the quality of food! The drinks prices are also really good! We will 100% be coming back on our next holiday here!

Lovely pub over the road from Haven.

Mediocre food, service from one member of staff (think it was actually the chef) was great but the rest of the staff were very rude and abrasive. We decided to wait for about 15 minutes before ordering food and just ordered drinks, however when it came to ordering our food, we ordered at 5.20pm and didn't actually see any food until 6.25. The server told us this was due to the restaurant being busy but we later overhead the owner and a member of staff talking at the bar approx 10 foot away from us saying that the server had actually forgotten to put our order through to the kitchen which wouldn't have been an issue if we were actually informed of this and had been issued with an apology. When the food arrived the cajun chicken burger was OK, not a lot of seasoning or taste there was more taste from the cajun mayo than anything and the curry of the day tasted like it was out of a jar even though it states on the menu that they use fresh ingredients. As stated the staff were very sarcastic and abrasive making very snarky and rude comments when issues were brought up and even when we asked for the bill to the point we gave up giving feedback. No apology for the wait or the quality of food. The glass and ice had an awful flavour to them (first issue of many). I'd avoid the restaurant to be honest, seems a very local like pub as the other table who's food had not been put through to the kitchen were issued with an explanation and apology but they were on a first name basis so perhaps that's why.

Just a recap on the last review titled family: You were a table of 38 people, we had preorders in place and all the Burgers were ordered without onion rings , you and your partner finished your meal and made no complaint until it was time to pay, you then refused to pay stating your Gourmet Burgers had no onion rings or fried egg, The pre order said no onion rings and my colleague apologised about the eggs and offered you both a complimentary dessert each , this you declined and refused to pay for your meal. The other 36 party members had no issues and all made a point of thanking the staff for there service which was as you are aware an extremely busy evening, I also had the pleasure of shaking a few hands and conveying a good night as everyone was leaving. So get it right mate I told you NOT to come back and you alone, my staff don’t work there socks off to be treated with disrespect and then told your refusing to pay your bill, all the other party members will be more than welcome in the Comet anytime. Very poor experience food was 2 hours delayed coming out,some of the food was under cooked and missing items . we booked for 34 of us told them what we wanted few weeks ago. Tables spread out all over the place so not all sitting together . When we explained the concerns we was told not to come back Food was so basic and poor would not recommend

We popped in here after a long walk in Bulverhythe on a Wednesday about 4.40pm. We had 2 dogs with us, 8 months old, not the best behaved but the people and punters seemed to be dog lovers so we didn't feel uncomfortable 😉 as they were very patient. The garden is huge and enclosed which suited us as the puppy's ran around. Food started at 5pm. We ordered baby back ribs and a plant based burger. Amazing!!! Really really tasty. Great presentation and plenty of it. Will absolutely 💯 be returning. We have to really to teach the pups how to behave respectfully in pubs and we can't think of a better place for them to learn!! A very warm welcome from the lovely bar lady/ chef and the landlord and the regulars were very friendly. One of the best pubs I've been in for a long while.

There was ten of us so it took a bit of time to get our food (which is understandable) but definitely worth the wait. Really good meals and excellent service, staff were very friendly. Decent value for money too. Recommended.

The staff were welcoming and friendly. The meals were home cooked and great value for money. It was a great pub to meet up with a friend for lunch. We will be back.

I came here with a couple of my girls and the atmosphere and staff are so so Friendly and up beat. I had the gourmet burger and I can hands down say this is one of the best pub burger I have had in a long time! The price was very good for what you get and the drink prices even better. Highly recommend and has become my new favourite pub around.

Went in for dinner as we just moved to the area and it turns out the new owners just took over and it was the first day back serving food. We had the fish and chips and it was really good. Loved the vibe there also and the staff were all very friendly

Been here & London many times & brilliant but let down today as plates were cold so my minute steak quickly tepid. Heat em up please

The staff were friendly and service good. The pub has a larger garden and play area for children. There is a pool table, table football and sky TV. Its main let down is it could do with some redecoration as it is beginning to get a bit tired in several places.

No chef at moment so could not eat but had a nice couple of hours chatting with barman. Dog very welcome. Nice no frills traditional pub worth a visit.

Hi, away for couple of days ...stopped by this lil place as a name sake thing an, well, if you like a traditional pub with comfy vibe an calm out doors, give it a gooooo.. Cheap pool table good beer fab garden...an good mix of music, enjoyedthe rock n roll...an very helpful friendly fun staff... We weren't from area an the lady they, apparently 1st day of management....was incredible...believe name Sam... So helpful an polite ,could be a tour adviser, hospitalityhostes etc. .., look forward to goin back 1day... 🐺😎🎶

After a miserable, wet caravan stay we found this treasure of a pub! The fish and chips was so fresh and the best I’ve ever tasted and the homemade pie was to die for. The Comet have knocked this straight out of the park! If you are ever near St Leonard’s (near Hastings) you must come here!

We went to this pub recently with a group of 12 of us, adults and children. This pub has such great potential being so close to a haven site. Our food was very tasty with great chips but just felt they had been overloaded quite easily. X x

First time here, felt really welcome and looked after. Relaxed palce, great for the kids and the Sunday roast was excellent, and the dessert....biscoffee cheese cake, home made, was the best cheese cake I've ever had!!!look forward to going back there!

Very nice Shepherd Neame Pub which is very Quaint,Can not Rate the Food as I did not have anything to Eat. But was Greatly Pleased as it had Hurlliman Swiss Lager which is of a High Quality and Tasty,Landlord very nice Fellow and Left Contented.

Great pub just a short walk from the holiday camp , good beer and a nice atmosphere, drank in there a few nights and always enjoyable I would highly recommend having food there. The food was lovely and very fresh Thanks Brett

We were on holiday and found this pub up the road to where we were staying best find I must say lovely pub great outdoor space fab atmosphere. The locals were lovely and the landlord so welcoming. The service was great. Unfortunately we didn't eat as we run out of time but the food and presentation I saw looked amazing. Would definitely recommend visiting.

We visited this pub on 3 occasions whilst on holiday in Hastings whilst reading the reviews the majority of 1* Reviews seem very harsh. However some people are never happy! for us great food the Landlord was very welcoming and gave great service! 5* Review from us. xx

Very old school but a lovely pint

We sat in the garden and had a drink on a warm sunny day and thoroughly enjoyed it. Haven't been here for many years. Seems like a nice family pub with a comfortable feel and friendly service.

Visiting haven, and decided to try here for somewhere different for food, loved it food was so beautiful and good value for money. They bought out kids meal first which is perfect; lovely garden area.

The landlord then came out with our placemats, cutlery and salt etc. he then reappeared with several biscuits for the dog and then a great big chew for him. Our food arrived and it was great. The portion size was great and it tasted great. I will be recommending the comet to everyone in the area as a good old style pub that gives both good service and great pub food.

Worst pub in hastings Food was like it had been cooked by a dinner lady in 1970 Staff were rude and full of coke heads, do not take any one you like here ....probably wouldn't take my worst enemy

Yes this is a traditional pub but when we were there they had run out of a number of ales and beers., which was disappointing. The food was good and homemade. The outside decking needs some attention and work doing on it as looks very tired and in need of repair. If this was all ok then they would have has a higher rating.

Popped in for a bite to eat, and so glad we did. Staff lovely and welcoming and food was great. Portion sizes are BIG and the food arrived hot and quick! Massive garden with a great play frame for the kids. Yes, the gardens slightly overgrown and the benches need a lick of paint but nothing you can’t see passed when the food and staff make up for it. We will be back in the summer holidays! Thanks guys

Fish and chips very good portion, pretty much a locals pub

Was very disappointed with this place, the weather was beautiful so decided to sit in the garden but it's so overgrown the tables have seen better days it was very run down. In side could do with updating and a good clean. Would never go back such a shame as the holiday park is only five minutes away.

Went in there whilst on holiday over road at haven, staff were very welcoming and friendly, lovely atmosphere in there and the beer was nice aswell, pub was very clean and tidy, would definately recommend it

Would give it a lower rating but thought maybe they were having a bad day 😂 so first of all walked in got a table, it was just my daughter and i, across from us was an older guy by himself he kept looking at us and then said can I sit next to her (my daughter) i politely told him no😂 i don't understand what made him think that was acceptable but he was clearly a regular talking to everyone. Moving on went to the bar to order food and they over charged us by £10 I kept adding up the prices in front of the bar staff telling them it should only come up to £21 not £31, finally after resolving that, food arrived we ordered a veggie burger and a hot dog..well we got the hot dog just not a veggie burger definitely was a beef burger, we didn't end up staying very long after getting the order wrong and them trying to over charge us as a man started talking very loudly about how he found out he got cheated on which wasn't very pleasant with the details, I guess it's just the type of environment this bar has. I suppose its a good laugh once you've left but I won't be returning even though it's convenient with the caravan site only being 10 mins walk if that.

After spending a week at Combe haven site, every night was spent at a belting little pub for food. Dishes were home made, staff were lovely and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Beer was excellent (Guinness). Great place for families. Can't wait to be able to visit again x

If I could leave no star rating I would, im sure they just peeled the vegetables and put them on our plates , the only thing that was cooked was the beef and that broke 3 of my teeth whilst trying to chew it !! , but if its a raw roast dinner your after then look no further you've found a Michelin star restaurant for that !!!!! save your money and never step foot in here

Great food, great service in a traditional friendly local. The vegetarian nut roast was fabulous as were the accompanying vegetables. The home made cheesecake was delicious. Presentation and portion size just right. Definitely worth a visit if you want a traditional roast dinner, vegetarian option, fish n chips etc. The publican and his wife, the kitchen staff, fellow customers were all friendly.

Visited while staying at combe haven. This pub ought to be cashing in on hundreds of holiday makers a matter of minutes away. It isn't. It's really really run down, inside and out. (And isn't even cheap) There was some sort of private party going on, Inc buffet so it wnt even clear if they were open. Not even a friendly greeting as we went in. The music for the party was at full volume throughout the whole venue so you couldn't even talk. Only positive was the music was good!

Went for a roast whilst staying at Combe Haven. Food was decent, but definitely a locals pub.

Visited while staying at nearby holiday park, first impressions not great as car park looks like a scrap yard with glass all over the floor. Inside not much better with out dated furniture and very dirty. As it was Sunny decided to sit in the ‘Garden’ which is full of broken toys and very worn tables and climbing frames!!!!!Really. Drinks very expensive and food cold and obviously microwaved, complained to landlord who looks like the ‘how very dare you man’ from Catherine Tate, very rude and aggressive. Avoid at all costs……

DO NOT RECOMMEND My daughter's engagement party was married by unpleasant bar man who refused to give us jugs of water on a boiling hot day because he had no jugs because people broke them all. Eh? Get some more then! There was no sun shade on the hottest day of the year. They didn't tell us the outside bar wouldn't be open. The food was absolutely EXCELLENT the only nice thing about the venue. We were not given any nice touches or hospitable treatment. He said "I'm here to make money mate" . What a mean attitude :-(

Horrendous experience…. Food disgusting, very dirty inside and outside. Cannabis was being smoked in the ‘garden area’ which looks more like a bomb site. As other reviews have said waitress tried to overcharge and landlord was very aggressive and unfriendly. Avoid at all costs……

Odd place. Definately a locals pub, but lots of passing trade being within gobbing distance of a Haven holiday park. Decorated on the cheap and the whole place could do with a deep clean/tidy as a bit crusty in places, but friendly landlord and locals. Colourful language at times, but I like that. Gives a place character. All good natured I would add. The food was average at best, but plenty of it and very reasonably priced.

This is a old style pub very welcoming staff the prices reflected the pub for me a very enjoyable experience I would go back there plenty of parking spaces nice place to go

Really lovely pub and dog friendly. We visited whilst on holiday at Combe Haven (about a 5 minute walk from main entrance) and sat in the family friendly beer garden. If you have young children they will love the play area. Staff are friendly and drinks are reasonably priced.

Had small portion of sunday lamb roast last Sunday, and played the pool. Spent our New year celebrations the pub as well!

Nice slightly old fashioned pub, Big garden and playground for children. Didn't try the food, but menu looked OK. Sky tv for sports.

We booked a table for 4 for 1pm today. We arrived a few minutes early but no table ready. We were seated and had ordered by 10 past 1. 45 minutes later, no food so chased it up. It arrived after another 10 minutes. Never have we experienced food so bad anywhere! Steak was like leather, burned packet scampi, burned chips and terrible service. No other diners either despite the local holiday park being fully booked. We did not bother with desert and were happy to leave.

Popped up from the haven site for a few drinks on weds 13th and came back for a few more the following evening and to have a meal, food was very nice and very good value,nice friendly welcoming pub, recommend a visit.

Cocktails were nice- went for the £30 bottomless. Won’t do it again, one of the bar staff wouldn’t allow you to order your next drink until you finished your drinks (although it took an age to get your drinks so normally you have to order in advance when you are out!) One of the bar staff also moaning that we shouldn’t drink it so quick as we would get too drunk then we would have to leave- we were (and still) are not drunk lol. 5 drinks in a bottomless cocktail deal isn’t exactly excessive in 2 hours. Just didn’t really like the vibe, would rather spend my £30 on 2 for £12 cocktails spread over a few more hours somewhere else where the service was better. I won’t go back.

Friendly staff,, good beer great pub

Went out for a Thursday evening treat, with my husband, food was nice I had the lasagne, my husband had the comet burger, the chips were nice, but they could used fries, rather than huge chunky chips. Barman was ok when approached but was more interested in his mobile phone. Noisy group at pool table, loud music, TV playing volume up also. Not sure we will rush back. Shame as we are locals.

Perfect family pub, garden is amazing for kids. It's dig friendly and the staff are so polite and helpful. Only downside was the wine was terrible so had to drink beer or spirits.

We visited the Comet whilst staying down the road at Coombe Haven. The pub is only a short walk from the holiday camp. I had a surf & turf which was cooked very well, my wife had ribs which she enjoyed & our kids had a burger which they both enjoyed. The food was very good & at a reasonable price. We chatted to some of the locals & the barman & they seemed friendly. Was definitely worth a visit.

Nice place to have a drink and have a meal and I've always been there before.
