Visited the comet the other evening, and What an absolute gem this pub is. The owners Peter and Leslie were terrific and so friendly and helpful, even giving the locals complimentary snacks, the pub itself is in an old coaching Inn and Leslie has transformed the interior with countless interesting ornaments from old rocking horses to an Alice through the looking glass theme, there's far too much to mention, the wine, spirits and beer list is very good and extensive to meet all tastes. Do yourselves a favour and visit this lovely old pub, Thanks very much Peter and Leslie we had a great evening

We celebrated our Golden Wedding here at The Comet last week and the buffet Lesley provided was superb and we received many compliments on the food and venue. Nothing was too much trouble and Lesley and Peter decorated the pub with a banner and balloons for us. We would highly recommend any function here. 5* Sunday lunch, was asked if we had enough of everything, Asked for extra veg and this was provided. Good choice of meats. Great selection of starters and sweets! Staff are all lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The only downsides are that regulars book week after week and sometimes it's difficult to get a table, which speaks for it's self really! And that they are not open for food more often!

The Comet is the place to visit for Sunday Lunch, Leslie and Peter put on a Sunday Lunch with all the normal Sunday Roasts plus a number of specials. The place is filled with many objects and is quite bizarre but fascinating. If you are thinking of going I would recommend that you ring and book as it is so popular with diners who have become regulars as the food is so good. The staff are so friendly and attentive serving everyone.

First visit for us and some friends for a very long time and we were not disappointed. Quiz night on Saturday and the place was almost full but the landlady was very accommodating in getting us a table. The beers are really good, recommend the Raby Ale, and there are plenty of others to choose. The decor is clearly a lifetime collection of all sorts which add to the atmosphere. We will definitely return. The quiz was excellent by the way, great questions and well managed.

We arrived on Sunday, hoping to get something to eat, told we had to book for a meal, this place is closed, Tuesday and Wednesday, only serves food on a Friday, Saturday night and Sunday lunch, nothing advertised that this is what they do, it’s quite small. But to be fair, it was very busy on the Sunday lunch time, I just think they need to update their website details. Everything we had seen that was coming out of the kitchen, looked piping hot and smelled delicious, we wish we could have tried it, they would do a good trade as the Croft hotel’s food is not good at all.

Brought our friends from Newcastle here for a meal on Fri 14th Sept, when we arrived we were told it was fully booked, so we asked if it was ok for us to just have a drink, the landlady was very nice and welcomed us in, it has a very pleasant atmosphere when you first go in, the landlady came over to us 10 minutes later and said she had found us a table, we were very grateful. My friend and I had the Rib Eye steaks and the wife’s had the Lasagna, steaks were cooked to perfections and the lasagnas were beautiful, the service was excellent especially from Faye the waitress who couldn’t do enough for us. Overall a very friendly and welcoming country pub, we will definitely be returning, oh and Faye we owe you a big tip. Thank you

Went with some friends for an evening meal. There was some issue about us getting a table although the dining area was almost empty. We were given a table in the end and the food was good. There were NO vegetarian options on the blackboard and we had to ask and they made a pasta dish. I hate having to ask for vegetarian meals as it makes you feel awkward and a ‘special case’. A good range of beers and cask ales. Decor a bit overwhelming, every space filled with stuff. I would hesitate to go back here due to the initial resistance to our wanting to eat even though it was only 6:30pm and they advertise food service until 8pm.

This pub is a bit off the beaten track - but in a very nice location next to the bridge and river near Croft. Very nice location - and the pub has real character. I went with family for Sunday dinner - having been several times before. The décor is very strange indeed - latterly hundreds of items of memorabilia ranging from WW2 stuff, Betty Boo, Marilyn Monroe and there is not an inch of wall not covered. Heaven knows how they clean the place - but hey. My first issue is the seating - you are crammed in like sardines. When someone wants to move from the table next to you - they have no choice but to stick their bum in your face - which is annoying. Secondly - the service!! The staff insist on walking around with a huge " Specials" board - which is the size of a sandwich board - and knocking into everything in their path. The serving staff also need to be constantly reminded about simple requests - sauces, salt and pepper....etc The food is quite nice. The meat is tender and the portions generous - though I felt there were not enough veg. It is £8.00 for a Sunday dinner - and deserts are around £5. This is fair in my judgement. There needs to be improvements - but it is a perfectly nice location for a Sunday dinner

It has the weirdest collection of 'things' I have ever seen except in a 'collectible' shop....absolutely fascinating. We had been recommended to go for the Sunday lunch.....certainly was well worth it. Two of my cousins had the roast beef, it look and apparently tasted JUST LIKE BEEF, my other cousin the chicken, I had the lamb all BRILLIANT. Well just had a fantastic family meal at the Comet. We don't live local any longer but the sister in law arranged this meal out for all 11, yes eleven which is always a struggle to get booked in. Atmosphere is warm and friendly staff attentive and will to help. We have a couple of fussy eaters so this can be a issue when we go out but this was not the case here.Food was all served timely and very tasty lots of choice as well. A number of us had the Sunday roast which is excellent and very generous portions and my wife can recommend the ginger pudding, apparently this is one of the best she's tasted. The prices are very reasonable as well compared to a lot of other chain restaurants which this is not.So in summary good food, friendly staff and great prices I'd book to make sure you get a table.

Needed an early Sunday Lunch Venue, The Comet is very close to home, we visit less than we did, but it;s known for its good quality homemade food, we also know that if you want Lamb from the Sunday Lunch menu you need to be there for an early talbe, as it sells out quick. We were lucky today ... we had booked early for 12.30, but there had been a mix up and no table had been reserved, it took a good half hour to sort it and get us a table, thankfully despite the mix up in the table bookings, we did get our Lamb, although we probably only just had our order taken in time after the hold up, as it was well after 1 and we had to ask several times to place our order, service was not as good as we have experienced in the past. The food was typical homemade Sunday Lunch, Lamb and veg with mint sauce, massive Yorkshires (bit overdone and dry) plenty of veg for 5, but not hot and just average.

My family have been telling me to visit for some time saying how nice it is inside but I have held back not liking the look of the place from the outside. I think the best way to describe the internal decor would be as 'Cath Kidstone-esque'. It is so nice and homely and the staff were great. Visited in November to celebrate my in-laws anniversary and my daughters boyfriends birthday. We booked in advance, picked a lovely big table in the dining room. Lots of roasts on offer, unfortunately no lamb which we'd all wanted :( However, all the selections were good, plenty of everything, lots of vegetables and offered more too, Yorkshire puds were overdone, but there was plenty of everything else to fill all the party up. Desserts were all the old favorites. No one was disappointed and it was a lovely atmosphere to share a few hours with the family and for me just a treat not spending the whole day in the kitchen on a Sunday. Service was a bit patchy, had to re ask for drinks etc. But it was busy and we were not in hurry so we would return.

Our only 'complaint' was that we enjoyed our meal so much on the Friday that we were looking forward to eating there the next evening too. Had Sunday lunch here, 3pm daughter in law was a bit worried that we may just get tail end of meals. We were all very impressed the meal was fantastic and the staff were great too. Will definitely go again

Even though we had not booked our meal we were made very welcome and soon advised a table would be available. It was extremely busy which is usually reassuring regarding the quality of food.We were not disappointed and my lamb was superb and my husband's beef was excellent. The main course was quite sufficient for us but maybe next time we can try the appealing looking puddings. The décor has to be seen for it's original design! Can recommend this eating establishment.

As you go in through the front door you enter what is not only a good local pub with a roaring fire but the décor is one of the best I have ever seen - and I have seen a few - Quirky would be an understatement - well worth a visit so I won't spoil it for you - a good choice of drinks and value for money menu and wine list - go hungry - the kitchen does not practice portion control and the food is very good home cooking - the staff and owner are very friendly

Lovely cosy cafe set in the quiet countryside. Had a nice lunch there that was reasonably priced with proper farm shop quality meat and cheese. The farm shop was stocked well with local produce and worth a look around. Goats donkeys cows and alpacas onsite for the kids to see

Had the crushed avocado myself (which was incredible) and my partner (coeliac) had a gluten free full English. Both absolutely satisfied and I cannot praise Breeze enough for being so helpful and accommodating with the gluten allergy! Will absolutely be visiting again - even if just for the rhubarb lemonade 😋

First visit and won’t be the last, 5 different meals, all good quality food, served attractively. Look forward to next visit.

Lovely little cafe. Very reasonably priced. The gentleman that served us was very quick and helpful. There is changing facilities for children, highchairs, a really cute motorbike rocking horse and a standard rocking horse so a few things to keep little ones busy whilst you finish your meal. They also have decaf tea, perfect for a breastfeeding mama. Oh yeah and they offer a mammoth breakfast, 4 bacon, 4 sausage, 4 eggs, 4 black pudding, fried bread, toast, beans, tomatoes etc for under a tenner. I didn't order it but I imagine it would be incredible and a great hangover cure. Please leave me a helpful vote if you found this review useful.
