Beautiful garden to sit in and enjoy perfect coffee which is a good size compared to other places in lynmouth! Would definitely recommend, yes I had to queue but if there’s a queue then it means it’s good and freshly made!!!

If you read my other reviews, you will realise that I am a complimentary and encouraging person. My reaction to “The CoffeeMill” then, is new for me. I was feeling ill due to breathing issues, and needed to sit down. This establishment has a gorgeous little garden I remember from 30 years ago. We headed there, and hubby went off to find refreshments while I sat down. I think the fact that we had quite a lengthy chat this morning about how awful it was, speaks volumes! All the other negative reviews are spot on and we cannot imagine why the owners are running this place into the ground so deliberately! The setting is quite literally the ONLY thing in its favour.

This used to be such a nice cafe with lots of choice of food. Sadly they only use the outside seating now, you queue up and can see a couple of cakes which are high up on shelves. Some ready wrapped sandwiches which all were the same. Takeaway cups , and you get told to put your stuff in the bins when you’re finished. It’s a shame when it’s such a nice setting.

I’d give a zero star if it was possible. From reading the negative reviews here, my experience was the same as many others who took the time to review this apparently charming location. Don’t be fooled by the enticing outdoor seating area, the husband and wife owners are a very rude and unpleasant pair to deal with, humiliating customers in public and pointing to signs to validate their self created rules. There are no less than 16 signs around their garden seating area which you don’t see until after you’ve made your purchase at their takeaway counter. This pair are completely irrational and inflexible and have zero customer service skills. Avoid at all costs and I’d suggest they seek an income in an industry that does not require human interaction. It’s expensive and average at best with pre-packed sandwiches and stale pasties. Avoid at all costs

All the signs about not eating your own food on the premises etc immediately put you on edge. Like being accused of something that wouldn't cross your mind. Also as a cyclist I was made to feel very unwelcome. Told to move my expensive bike to an insecure location even though there was nobody else in the garden to upset. Then had a lengthy discussion with owner about how apparently nobody would steal a bike in Lynmouth. I thought the term for the industry was 'Hospitality' Pricey too considering you get disposable plate & cup which you are expected to bin yourself McDonalds style.

I can only speak as I found. The owner was pleasant enough to us, and he politely asked if we could place our used stuff in the bins provided and our tray on the pile, which we certainly didn't object to. Maybe he's aware that the Covid risk is still around, hence the disposable cups, cutlery etc being in use today. In fact, it's probably more expensive for him to buy and use those, rather than use china/stainless steel.

First impressions this place looks quite nice, overlooking the river. Walked in here and sat down at one of the outdoor tables, it was quite quiet when we visited. There was a member of staff, so I assumed, fluffing up the table flowers (?) on the tables around us. We weren’t acknowledged, which is ok but a bit off I thought, but having sat at the table for a few minutes, they could’ve at least informed us that you needed to order from the takeaway counter and that there was no table service, which you would have expected in a seated cafe. This seemed quite strange to me. I don’t understand how places are still using the excuse of covid to get away with using paper plates cups and single use cutlery, it just seems lazy and kind of ruins it. There are also a couple of signs asking that you clear away your own table when done. So I don’t feel the normal price they are charging is justified, as it’s basically a fast food place kind of service / vibe. Cheapy tasting scones too.

We visited this cafe for an afternoon cream tea and refreshments on 15/07/2022. We duly noted the signs staggered around the cafe advising NOT to eat other foods purchased elsewhere on site. My 16 year old son had a pasty IN A BAG cooling on the table. The owner came around wiping tables and stated very loudly "I hope your not planning to eat that here". He was duly informed that we had read the signs and it was merely cooling and in the bag. His tone and manner was both rude and extremely offensive. Upon departure I cleared the tables and disposed of our rubbish as requested, taking the cooling pasty, still untouched and in the bag, with us. I requested to speak with the owner upon departure and put it to him that I found his manner rather rude, and that he could have been more discreet when communicating with us, as opposed to broadcasting his views to all other customers. He informed me that "this is my cafe and I can do what I want", I again put it to him that he was extremely rude and I felt his actions were not necessary nor very welcoming. As we went to leave he shouted at us "don't come back here again". I duly informed him not to worry as I wouldn't dream of it, once again reiterating his rudeness and hostility to him. This man made faulty assumptions and when politely challenged about his communication skills, clearly took umbridge by responding in a rude and aggressive manner. DO YOURSEVES A FAVOUR AND TAKE YOUR CUSTOM ELSEWHERE OTHER THAN THESE PREMISES. EXTREMELY BAD CUSTOMER RELATIONS.

It's not a coffee mill. It's ordinary coffee from a machine. There is nothing .special about an afternoon tea with paper cups and plates. Nothing justifies £2.30 for a cup of hot water and a tea bag in a paper cup, and then being expected to dispose of the throwaway plates into their bins. No service at all, and we will never visit again. We live locally and have witnessed the greed and shoddy attitude towards tourists and holidaymakers in Lynton and Lynmouth. The towns aren't that special. I'd like to see tea and coffee reduced to 75p. A complete boycott of these tea rooms in Lynmouth and Lynton is long overdue. I might even buy a cafe myself and charge half what these rip off merchants do. .

We called for an afternoon cream tea while in the beautiful Lynmouth & we came away very disappointed. The tea was served in paper cups & the food on paper plates, which is a knock on from covid, we assumed. The scones were not home made, more shop bought, and I’ve eaten scones in all corners of the UK as they are my go-to choice of light food, so I know what I’m talking about. The jam was fine & the cream was Rhoddas, but also served in little paper pots, with a wooden knife. All throw-away. Sorry, not for us in future.

We visited around a week ago. Staying in the area for the weekend it was lovely. We arrived and were greeted with who I presume was the owner. Very polite asking us to sign in following government guidelines. Good range of food to suit our dietary needs and absolutely amazing coffee!!!! However I have to say the best part of our visit was the young girl we were served by at the counter. She was bright, happy and honestly changed our whole experience. I can’t remember her name but I know she had a mask with hearts on (my daughter absolutely loved it). She joked with us and was able to recommend some amazing sights, views and restaurants. However as she was taking our order a man came behind her and well, was rude to say the least. He was incredibly arrogant not only to her but to us as well. The young girl seemed to brush it off but honestly it was disgraceful and I wish I said something then because the thought of her continuing to work with such a horrible person turns my stomach. However this didn’t seem to change her service as after us we heard her continuing to be as positive and as uplifting as she was to us. I cannot give this young girl enough credit and I can only imagine the amount of smiles she brings to peoples faces on a daily basis. I sincerely hope she sees this and it makes her as happy as she made us that day. For that fully grown man who thinks it’s acceptable to pick on such wonderful people... well I hope you see this too and it makes you realise that being nasty won’t get you anywhere in life!

However, despite the best efforts of some of the staff on the afternoon we were there, the ordering inside is a bit of a shambles with some staff seemingly just standing around whilst just one or two do everything. We decided to order a pizza, which was a big mistake. I don't know if these come from the kitchen of the Bath Hotel across the road or are made onsite, but it was awful. The base was soggy, there was hardly any tomato sauce, no herbs at all and the cheese, which smothered it, was like rubber. It's the first time both of us couldn't eat a pizza put in front of us. It's such a shame because this could be a really special place to have a drink and a bite to eat but we probably won't even bother again, not even for a coffee.

It has one of the best locations in Lynmouth by the harbour where, when the tide is in and the breeze is onshore the waves can splash entertainingly but thankfully not dangerously. The flood prevention has made safe an area that was devastated. The cafe is a perfect spot to relax and enjoy good coffee, cakes and light lunches.

We recenty visited here on a visit. The cafe is dog friendly. We had a cream tea each and was not dissapointed. The views were great. My only small point is that the americanis were a little small. But i do recomend eating here as it was quite popular and there selection of food was good.

Had Dorset crab sandwich with side salad. Never had it before and was nice but not to my personal taste. My companion had pastrami with horseradish and apparently it was excellent. Coffee is continental in style and not for the faint hearted. I got a serious caffeine fix

Lovely outside seating in garden. Teapots lids did not shut. Food good but a little pricey. Coffee okay and did come with hot milk if desired.

On a long weekend with two friends we meet up with rarely, the four of us split into two - we two men liked the look of the pleasant-looking Coffee Mill as we wanted some crab sandwiches. It was a lovely day and I was peckish and thirsty. Our lady partners were off looking at shops and had their eyes on a specific pasty shop. I was about to pay the £20+ for 2 sandwiches and drinks when the lady serving asked if we were sharing. I explained that our partners were off getting pasties elsewhere. This was like a red rag to a bull. She replied along the lines of "If they come into our gardens I will go out and ask them to leave the premises." As it happens, my partner and her friend had no intention of sitting in the Coffee Mill gardens and were actually perched on a nearby wall. Faced with what I can only describe as an unnecessarily aggressive and confrontational manner from the lady serving, my friend questioned her unfriendly attitude. The lady couldn't see our point, so I put my cash back in my wallet, we left, found another shop that served crab sandwiches and ate them overlooking the bay.

I couldn't help noticing quite a few negative recent reviews of The Coffee House. We did not read them before visiting, but I found it quite obvious that the toilets were located 50 yards away (we have a son in nappies and waited to change him in the baby change after we had eaten), and that food purchased elsewhere shouldn't be consumed there. The reviews seem overly harsh to me. We ordered two cream teas (proper clotted cream) and enjoyed them, whilst our youngest son had his milk and the eldest ate some fruit, neither of which were a problem. The scones were lovely - we did notice that the cost was more pricey than other places we had visited in the area, but this might be standard for Lynmouth (and reflect the popularity of the place).

Visited with my friend to get sandwiches and drinks for the two of us while our other halves were looking in the shops. When we were asked if our order was complete my friend said it was and that our partners were joining us with pasties they’d already purchased. The owner then very abruptly told us they wouldn’t be allowed to consume these on the premises. I sort of get her point but the place wasn’t busy and our order was over £20. When I mentioned this she just asked if we wanted her to continue with our order or not. I would have backed down and agreed, but her attitude was really quite aggressive. So, given the choice, I declined to complete the transaction. I’m not inclined to spend good money where my custom is viewed on a ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ basis. I think the attitude of the owner is also reflected in the aggressive responses they post to negative reviews.

Not a pleasant experience eating here after having to queue to order then having to carry everything back to the table...there were waitresses but they only brought out items that took time to prepare and because there are no table numbers they wandered around aimlessly until they found the right customers. At least the seagulls enjoyed themselves taking leftover food from tables because they had not been cleared.

I visited with a friend. She has a baby that needed to be changed urgently and there were no toilets. My friend asked a member of staff if she could change her baby’s nappy on a seat away from any customers and inside. The answer was ‘unsure’. As my friend changed her baby, she was then spoken to by the (we believe) owner in a highly unprofessional manner, and told to continue the change elsewhere (she was mid change). It was an unpleasant experience and distressing for a mother to be spoken to in this way.

Spotted this place on a walk through lynmouth- looked like a nice setting so returned for lunch. I asked the waitress if there was baby change there and she didn’t seem sure. My baby really needed a nappy change so I asked if I could quickly change her nappy in an area away from the main cafe and she agreed. Another staff member emerged a few minutes later and started berating me for changing a nappy in an ‘insppropriate place’. I calmly explained that I had asked permission but she kept going.....telling me I should go down the road to the memorial cafe. I was mid nappy change and it was all quite distressing.

Visited The Coffee Mill for the first time today after a trip to Lynmouth. Ordered 2 cream teas and was not disappointed. Service was very efficient with polite staff. Presentation of the food was immaculate which makes a difference and the fact that you get a pot each of cream and jam to go with you scones rather than ready made is a great idea. The weather wasn't great but they have a covered section outside which keeps the rain at bay. Full marks to all concerned. Would highly recommend.

So we found a table and was perusing the menu and one of the waitresses/ ? owner wiped it all down for us seeing we were new customers and choosing. The tables were about 50% full at this point. So I then and then stood in the queue to order for another 5 minutes- the order taking was exceptionally slow as the same person was making the drinks as taking the order. Staff were still serving the passing /non seated trade at the ice cream counter.

My daughter and I created a lifetime memory because of Charlie’s beautiful horses. We rode through an amazing variety of open expanses with wild Exmoor ponies in close view to the intimate valley setting for the novel of Lorna Doone. We saw the ruins of a medieval village and wondered about life so long ago. Charlie is in love with this wild place and will give you a delightful tour. She is fun and makes you feel special!

This was our second visit, our first was 2 years ago when we found the hotel to be quite basic as far as the decor is concerned, but alot of improvements have been made since then.
