Positives: nice decor and friendly staff. Scottish breakfast tasted nice. Negatives. No kids menu so ordered beans and cheese on toast and just beans on toast for a 9 and 3 year old. Arrived as one slice of toast and half a can of beans each with one slice of cheese on one. Both cost the same even though we asked for a kids portion. So for £17.90 we got 2 slices of bread, a tin of beans and one cheese slice. Bizarre price tag for what you got - you would expect a decent main meal in a restaurant for that. However nice experience, just possible needs price review on some of the menu items and possible a kids version.

Domingo, 10. 30 am a 4 pm. Un gran café, uno que recomiendo encarecidamente que visite si está en la zona o planea un viaje a Chester.

We visited the Coffee Mill after the Xmas markets on a Sunday and both chose the steak pie with mash, peas and gravy. The meal was delicious and the service was excellent. We managed to sit in the window seat too which was a bonus as it was seeing another couple sitting there a few weeks earlier that had caught our eye and put it on our list of places to try. Highly recommended and very good value.

Called in here wanting a full English breakfast. I had a small my partner a large. The bacon seemed like it had been pre cooked and warmed up it was hard. The beans again were like they'd been under a hot plate or something because they were dry. Our toast was burnt on 1 side and we didn't complain because we were hungry and had been looking around for a while. with 2 coffees and 1 juice the cost was 23 pounds. I'd think again before coming here.

This is a very pleasant traditional style tea room with tables, table cloths, nice china, and attractive wooden chairs. The menu looked interesting with Steak and Guinness Pie, Homemade Cottage Pie, etc. We were only looking for a snack lunch so had toasties. We were offered a choice of white, brown or granary bread, and the dish came with a salad and crisps. Very enjoyable indeed - simple but good food, well presented and tasty. The coffee was good too . If you can get the seat which is essentially in the window, it gives a nice view of Bridge Street. When we were in the cafe there were parties of school children with shields led Roman soldiers going up and down the street.

Lovely little tea room, very neat and tidy. More to the point, they served cream with coffee without batting an eyelid (pleasant surprise after having been lectured on the evils of cream at a more modern establishment a few doors down). We landed in Chester via the Park & Ride & didn't know where to have a snack so we went into the very attractive looking Coffee Mill. We had a superb scone with jam & clotted cream with a pot of tea. Just what we needed on a stiflingly hot day. The scone was crispy and gorgeous, the jam was very tasty & the portion of clotted cream was wonderful. Having been given a measly sized pot somewhere else the day before, this was superb. It made me very homesick for Devon. These people know how to look after their customers. I can truly say it was a Proper Job. We will be returning towards Christmas time, so we can't wait.

A traditional cafe in the heart of Chester. Good choice of sandwiches, toasties, jacket potatoes . We ordered 2 high teas with egg and cress, ham sandwiches and scones with jam and clotted cream, also ordered cheese and onion toastie. There was a plentiful amount of filling in the sandwiches and the scones were said to be delicious. Nothing was left. The only criticism was the ladies toilets that were not the cleanest with no tile troll in the holder and the hand dryer was not working. If I was honest if I had seen the Toliets first I would not have eaten there which would have been a real shame because the food was very tasty.

For many years I have wanted to visit Chester and it proved to be an excellent choice. Having arrived in the morning we looked for a coffee shop near the City centre and found the Coffee Mill café. The superb coffee and friendly service prompted us to call back later for some lunch. Our choice was for the home made soup with prawn sandwiches and I can honestly say that it was delicious. Again the service was very good despite being very busy at lunchtime. The window seat was comfortable and gave the opportunity to watch the outside world pass by. When looking for this type of café I usually avoid the branded establishment as both the drinks/food on offer are not to my taste. The Coffee Mill is a family business and has both the character and service that does not disappoint. Thoroughly recommend and if in Chester again I will definitely frequent the Coffee Mill again.

Have happy memories of this ‘olde worlde tea shop’Went back after 3 years looking forward to a tea cake and tea.We had a choice of many tables. On all of these tables there was dirty crockery being cleaned up.we were led to a table where stains were seen on the tablecloths. The young lady serving us asked if we needed a minute,we said that’s fine. After 10 long minutes looking around the shop waiting for service we started to feel uncomfortable in the dirty surroundings. No one noticed after we then got up and walked out.Luckily there are lots of other coffee shops nearby. One to miss in a future visit to Chester.

After a long day shopping in Chester my daughter and I were ready for a nice drink a a bite to eat. We spotted The Coffee Mill and thought we’ll give it a go as we would rather look after local business than your usual High Street bars. On the positive side the staff were very friendly and service was good but..unfortunately upon receiving my jacket potato with ‘homemade’ chilli it was all down hill from there! The minced beef in the chilli was cheap and almost like powder in sauce and the salad was full of water.... so much so that when I pushed my potato to the side of the plate I found it was ‘swimming ‘ in what can only be described as dirty dish water! Disgusted, I left my meal and decided to use the toilet before I left . Had I done this before looking at the menu I wouldn’t have ordered anything! To the left of you just before you get to the loo’s is the kitchen......It looked filthy, messy, greasy, with a few kitchen hands/cooks leaning over the counter! I work in a VERY busy coffee shop and know how a kitchen should be! The Coffee Mill did not look like it should at all, and neither did my food!! I may have just called in on an off day but when you are dealing with the public and food your premises should be spotless!! And food presented to a good standard.

My wife and I visited Chester yesterday. Looking for some lunch she suggested The Coffee Mill. She has been five or six times before but I think it was my first visit although she says I have been before! On entering it was obvious that it is a popular place because there was hardly a table to be had. However, someone was just leaving and so we were in luck. The staff were very welcoming but did not rush us as we looked at the menu. We both, unusually, opted for the same dish which was a special, among five or six, for the day. This was Steak and Guinness Pie. It arrived with a lovely mash potato and peas. The pie was quite thick and to say that it was generously filled with tender steak would be an understatement! It was chock full. A very tasty gravy was served on it. My wife would have liked less but it was fine for me. A regular stream of new customers came while we were eating so the place was constantly filled. The next time I visit Chester I won't need to look for somewhere to eat. I shall just cross my fingers and hope there's a table for me at The Coffee Mill.

By this time it was obvious that she had clocked us..the guy sitting next to us was looking apologetically at us and was squirming a little, Anyway, as one, we decided that enough was enough and we stood up in unison and left, heading to the Cinder Box next door which was lovely. We got the wrong order to begin with, the cups and cutlery were grubby and the general cleanliness wasn't very good. The food was bland too and needed lots of salt and pepper to give it any taste at all. The waitress who served us was very pleasant but the waitress who took our payment didn't crack a smile. The kitchen looks grubby and the toilets weren't very clean either. It will be another few years and maybe a change of management/staff before we venture back there. My advice is don't bother. Chatwins and Marmalade are much nicer.

Looked so appealing on the outside, we went in. They serve sandwiches and desserts mostly. You can see everything is homemade and fresh. I had their scone and clotted cream and jam - wow! Daughter had a sandwich which comes cut in 3 pieces with a little salad - also very tasty. Nicely decorated inside. What a gem!

We visited The Coffee Mill twice in the same day and based on the first visit at 12.00 noon we would be saying that we had really nice tea served by reasonable staff in a nice location.

A welcome break from walking the city walls and streets. Service was a little patchy especially getting an order taken, but thereafter everything was fine including a tasty fruit scone.

Always enjoy this place. The coffee is good and the scones are as good as you could get. Freshly baked. Efficient service and good for lunchtime snacks.

Early lunchtime, this cafe was very busy but we found a small table for two. Very prompt service by pleasant staff and the food arrived quickly. We had two sandwiches with coffee, and they came with crisps and salad. Very tasty. Will come again when back in Chester.

We spend a pleasant hour having a snack and drinks in this tea shop. The menu was varied, and the service was very quickly served.

Lovely breakfast here which included proper mushrooms! I had a latte which took a long time to cool before I could drink it which was great as it prolonged our time in this gorgeous place. Very quaint, lace tableclothes and old photos of Chester on the wall. It was very busy (midweek 10 am ) and the tables were packed a little bit too close to each other for my preference but would definitely return

A very traditional British tea house in a very interesting city. We each had the full English breakfast meal, which had good portion sizes, however wasn't too sure about the sausage. Everything else was quite enjoyable.

This is the second time we visited The Coffee Mill in Chester. Last time was 2 years ago when we were in England for a wedding. The quality of food and service was outstanding. Adorable tables with lace tablecloths and exceptional staff. We arrived at 4:45 as they were cleaning up to go home. We asked if we were too late and they graciously invited us in and served a delicious Cream Tea.

Went here for a nice little coffee. Was served by a youngster called Dylan who dropped it all over the table. What a silly sausage. The cafe itself stunk, the surrounding houses smelled of sewage. The north of puddington smells worse than the south. It's really not worth the pain. Stay well away

We have eaten here a few times now with our little dog, staff very friendly, there are obvious signs about the parking with a tablet at the bar to enter your reg number, the pin is displayed next to this. Good range of food quickly served, twice when we came they were recovering from disastrous floods so the menu was slightly limited, the food was still good though. Lovely setting to sit out by the river and regular entertainment at weekends. Keep it up Red Lion!

Stumbled on this cafe during a weekend in Chester. Great coffee and cakes very reasonably priced. Couldn't understand why people were passing it by to go to Costa in the Tesco next door.

Lovely coffee and hot chocolate. Staff very friendly and polite. I always prefer the coffee in Starbucks to Costa coffee just a personal preference.

My visit was for a lunch with friends. The pub was their local, not one they frequented but it was convenient. It was a memorable visit for all the right reasons. I was welcomed at the bar with smiles and I explained that one of my party had allergies. The checking of the ingredients was really thorough, the food came and it was hot, fresh and delicious. I appreciated all the effort that went in to ensure we had a great time and felt safe. Totally worthy of recommendation and repeat visits.
