From start to finish chaos. The atmosphere was eerie, and when going to order faced with a bad attitude. Due to dietary requirements, we needed to make changes to our orders- menu stated scrambled eggs and salmon, and we just needed it without salmon. We were told this was basically not possible and the chef had to be asked? very bizarre. Brought out toast 10 minutes before the rest of the dish, leaving it to go cold. Found pips in the coffee. One of the meals came after we had all eaten after having to remind them. And to top it all off, most expensive meal we had in chester and none of us ate it because it was just dry or cold.

Really slow service. We waited a while at the bar and then 15 mins for 2 drinks (a hot chocolate and a latte). It wasn't particularly busy either. The drinks were lovely, and the latte art was a nice addition. They do food, but we didn't have time to try this time.

5 of us 2 couples and friend ordered breakfast here. Very nice place and friendly service, however the food/breakfast was horrendous! Not cheap by any means which you don’t mind for good food! The taste wasn’t awful, but, the meal was ridiculous! One friend ordered a bacon sandwich, he might aswelll have ordered a spinach sandwich! One rasher of bacon! horrendous if you ask me! Don’t order breakfast here

A pretty dismal experience and missing all the 'S's at 11.40am on a Saturday. They had no Soup, no Sour dough toast and no Soap in the toilet. Service was Sullen. It was as if it was their 1st day of trying to be a cafe. So disappointing

I tried to come here several times and each time it was closed despite arriving during the stated open times on their window. When I did finally find it open… the cakes looked like they had come out of a box with only a small selection. The coffee didn’t really taste good at all. Bitter and weak at the same time.

Lovely little independant spot. come for breakfast when my boyfriend was in town and he really liked it! they have a great range of products and he was really happy with the protein coffee he had said it was lovely!

Been going here for a while, but never again. Initially ordered a baguette but was told they didn't have any sausages in, but it would be the same price!!! So I ordered us both club sandwiches instead. They arrived with 3 tiny pieces of cold toast, one piece of cold, fatty bacon, a dry tiny piece of chicken and an overdone fried egg, at £12.50 each!!! I did complain and the cook and the manager told me he was new and wasn't use to the portion sizes. I pointed out we had paid £32 for these and coffee, and they just shrugged it off. I would not recommend anybody use this place to eat, there are lots more in the area where you'd get quality food and double their portion sizes!!! Such a shame how they've let it go, what was once a great place to eat is now a place we will avoid and advise anyone else to!!!!

Service was great, only issue is it was an expensive roll or club sandwich as that is all you got, would of been great if salad and crispy accompanied it or fries,

I’m rarely compelled to leave a review but this place was terrible. When I initially ordered, the lady on the counter was extremely rude and sullen. One of our 2 drinks arrived 5 minutes before the second and when my coffee arrived it was cold. We took it back straight away and were told (by the same lady) that if they make it again, it would be the same. Ridiculous. Chester is full of great independent places - go somewhere else.

Only place we cud find that was dog friendly- welcomed in from the rain. Had a lovely Brie and cranberry ciabatta and my husband had a cheese one, menu was limited due to chef being off, Fab coffee and the gentleman behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. Nowadays more places need to be dog friendly so we were very pleased that find this little gem. Got very busy as we left and a customer told we were the most Christmassy couple she had seen.. lol.

The food was excellent with large portions and the taste was great, all four of us had different meals and the quality was good

I can see the great revews from past customers so I don’t know what has gone wrong here. The walls are now stripped of cladding so it looks a mess. The toilet is awful. It was freezing but the staff insisted on propping the door wide open. The service was so slow and I have never had such dry carrot cake. I should have demanded a refund as it was far too much for the experience we had at about £15 for two (small) hot chocolates and two very basic pieces of cake.

So disappointed to write this review having had many good experiences over the past couple of years at Panna but the service has been declining over the last couple of visits. We visited today and the cafe was very busy with all tables filled. We were fortunate enough that a couple left so my mum and I had a seat pretty quickly. Normally the menus are in a little basket on the counter but there were none there today so my mum asked to take the one near the till. The food choice has changed again since my last visit to accommodate the festive season and I was excited to try the festive artisan sandwich and my mum ordered the open vegan sandwich. The drinks are quite expensive (£3.50 for soft drinks - San pelligrino, mini coke, mini innocent juices) but the food previously has been good value (I wish they would bring back chicken meets piggy - excellent sandwich and was sad to see it go off the menu!) so was happy to pay that. Normally there is tap water available but there were only two cups this time for the whole restaurant and no ice in the water (which was unusual as this is normally filled up and plentiful). There were many people in the restaurant waiting quite a while for food and I was sat directly opposite the food prep area. Unfortunately as I was watching one of the staff members prep the cutlery to go on the plates I watched him take a fork out of the dirty bowl, look round for something to wash it with but instead wiped it with a serviette and wrapped it with a knife to go on someone’s plate. I also then witnessed more knives and forks that had been delivered ‘clean’ still covered in dirt and the staff member select cutlery from there to wipe and put onto people’s plates. After around 40 mins waiting for our food and witnessed the unhygienic practices I decided to ask for a refund and go elsewhere as I would not have enjoyed my food having seen this. The server denied wiping dirty cutlery with a serviette, but I had seen him do this. The lady from the kitchen came out and I was granted a refund. In addition, the toilet was unhygienic, there was no toilet roll (also the same on my last visit) the floor was wet and the tap has been broken since it opened with another emersion tap to wash hands. Very sad to write this review and read the other negative ones that have been left recently. Panna has been and has the potential to still be amazing and it was a shame to see it go so much downhill recently. Please get back to what you do best - improve the service and the facilities and ensure the cleanliness as the food is great!

I don't normally leave reviews, but this was such an awful experience. Over £5 for one drink. Extra £1 for oat milk instead. Assistant was rude and unfriendly. Cleared up and closed much earlier than advertised time...made me feel very uncomfortable. I was the only customer, now realise why so empty

An average coffee sorry to say. A bit devoid of atmosphere but on other hand ready to get a seated place. Would try again.

Waited 25 minutes for a press coffee, went to ask for a refund, and said they would make it now. Got given a coffee that hadn't had time to brew so tasted like water. Not sure why the wait was so long, place was nearly empty.

Slow, rude, bad food, expensive, but the coffee was nice. Strange food combinations. Who puts raw onions and spinach on a sausage sandwich? The menu needs simplifying. Also, the baking is particularly bad. The cupcake was dripping with oil and the buttercream was grainy.

We had the posh cow baguette and the chicken club. Both were delicious, the ingredients are clearly fresh and food is made to order. Staff are very friendly and attentive. The shop itself is comfy and inviting. Come here instead of the chain coffee shops.

Coffee was ok ordered a flat white was quite weak, there’s better shops in Chester. Other small things, cups are Wilko and don’t fit in the saucers, no brown sugar for coffee, cheap teaspoons, water comes in Ikea plastic kids cups. However staff were lovely and food was delicious.

Came across this independent coffee house when visiting Chester over the weekend. The staff was very friendly. Ordered Bacon and Brie Baguette. Never had a better baguette, it was very tasty, hot and quite a big portion. Coffee was excellent too. Over all big portions, tasty food, excellent value. Will be definitely back soon. Thank you

I visited with my family last weekend. The food took a very long time to come, one sandwich at a time, even though we were the only customers for most of the time. So my son had nearly finished by the time mine arrived. The baguettes were quite nice and reasonable value but I was so disappointed to spend over £7 on an open sandwich which consisted of one, thin slice of bread with mostly rocket on top. Drinks were also very expensive. I very rarely leave a cafe hungry but myself and my husband did.

Perfect place to eat, staff very friendly and the chef was amazing! Her food was fresh and so tasty well done to you! Can tell you take pride in your food and it definitely showed (tasted amazing) for reference I had the club sandwich which was the best club sandwich I’ve ever had and my partner had the Colombian eggs. We were pleased to find Panna on a visit to Chester as we used to visit the one in Liverpool. Same friendly welcome as always, lovely coffee and the bacon butty was absolutely top notch. Well worth a visit for breakfast or lunch.

Visited here many times and always enjoyed the food and coffee, if a little expensive. Staff were as friendly as ever but really disappointed with the food we both had. My wife had the sausage batch, sausages were a very poor quality, something I would expect to eat in a greasy spoon, not somewhere charging £7 or £8!!! My sweet chilli chicken baguette promised fresh chilli's...not a single one in sight!! It was just chilli sauce mixed in with mayo which was a right mess to eat!! Very little chicken on there as well. I appreciate everyone needs to make savings, but if the quality of your produce goes down then I'm afraid your prices need to reflect this!! Gutted, as we have always had great food here, until now!!!!

Coffee came in a plastic tumbler like you would give a child and wasn't very nice coffee. The food was nice but abit expensive for the amount you got. The place looked like it was still getting done out and the toilet was very old fashioned dirty, broken tap. Staff were nice and the place was clean but I won't be going again

Our first visit to Panna Coffee but definitely not our last. We had a delicious lunch, very reasonably priced and promptly served. Finished off with one of their excellent coffees. Such lovely, friendly staff. Thank you.

Slow service - 30 minutes from ordering to food arriving. Expensive drinks served strangely for staying in (plastic takeaway cups, boba tea with no straw) and not good value at a fiver each. Food was hot and tasty but the toast was spoiled by lashings of margarine. Lacking the extra attention to detail that would justify the higher than average prices.

Ordered a sandwich and an iced latte but the latte had burst and spilled all over the bag and the sandwich. Disgusting can’t believe you would charge nearly £20 for a coffee and a sandwich and you wouldn’t even check the bag before sending it. Tried calling multiple times and no one would pick up the phone. Horrible customer service and no care taken with orders or food.

Staff are so rude in here honestly do Yourself a favour and go to literally any other coffee shop in Chester. The coffee wasn’t even that nice considering how pretentious they are. I thought in the very least that it would be good considering their behaviour.

Been here a few time, each time has been an excellent experience. All the staff are lovely, very welcoming and accomodating. All food is prepared on the day so it is always fresh, great selection of mains and desserts. Drinks are made there and then as well so you can see exactly what you are getting. They even have a great range of things to buy, including personalised items made by one of the owners. Overall great coffee shop, and great prices for a city centre. Also dog friendly! 10/10 recommend anyone coming here to try.

Visited on a Saturday lunch time (party of 5). The shop wasn't overly busy and we didn't have to wait for a table. The shop had 4 serving staff and another person working in the kitchen, with that said service was very slow (I waited over 40 mins for brie and bacon on a baguette). During our stay, tables did not get cleared or wiped down. Staff came over to confirm several times as to what we had ordered and our orders came out at varying intervals so that no-one ate together. Food itself was ok, noting special. In fairness, it seemed that a couple of staff members were new, but how technical is picking up a few plates or empty glasses or throwing a cleaning cloth across a table? *EDIT Dear Peter, No, I'm afraid your response doesn't clear anything up, especially as you did not question which day I was referring to in my review, other that stating it was a regular Saturday lunch time. All of my party counted 5 persons including a cook behind the service area. All wore the same dark attire and aprons, so unless we were seeing ghosts then I can assume you are not aware of how many people are on shift at one time. Your staff appeared to be confused about how to work the till/iPad/read the menu/clean tables and for that reason I guessed they were new starters in training. It took about 18 minutes for one of your staff to come to our table to ask if they had taken our orders correctly, at the same time leaving dirty dishes from previous patrons on our table and those surrounding. Subsequent visits were paid to re-check their first check... Thanks for your response, but it's a no thanks to a return visit.

Came into Panna Coffee on a whim as I was walking past, very good selection of cakes, very nice earl grey tea in a pot. I ordered a Mexican brunch which was delicious, I would highly recommend and to finish a gluten free brownie which had just been prepared, it was amazing. Shall return

Posh Cow was as delicious a baguette as I've ever had. Not so full that it spilled over me and the table. Sensible amounts of all ingredients were perfectly balanced for flavour and texture and provided a grand lunch. Thanks guys.

Went in on a whim, 3 of the empty tables had dirty plates/cups whilst staff were chatting amongst theirselves behind the counter (no reason for the tables not to be cleared). Tried to order a slice of toast but they had ran out, juices advertised were not available. Didn’t stay to find out if the coffee or food was any good as went elsewhere instead. Shame as the menu did seem promising!

Disappointed - soup is from Sainsbury’s tins. Omelette was reheated and not fresh which is why when we asked for no olives it had olives. No water in the water dispenser. Service was very average. It’s not what is advertised. Wouldn’t recommend

The best coffee house in Chester, the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. The coffee is incredible and the atmosphere is top-notch. The options for food are great especially having some veggie-friendly options. Love coming to Panna, both in passing on my shopping days or to work for the day. Prices are on the more expensive side, but totally worth it. Id much rather pay for a coffee at Panna than at Starbucks.

Visited on a recent trip to Chester. Unfortunately majority of the items were out of stock. It took three attempts of ordering a drink to get one they had or could make. Same with the food as they didn’t have dressings etc for some items. The food was very tasty and good portions. The juices were a disappointment for the price as have been made ahead of time (with no labels to indicate when it had been made on the bottles….) and were very small for the prices, only filling up half the glass they’d provide us to go with it.

Stopped in for breakfast and it was delicious! I definitely recommend the Mediterranean omelet, it was cooked to perfection 👌 Thanks guys!

Ok so a coffee place has to get its coffees right. Ordered a flat white. It arrived in a very large plastic handleless cup. It was 80pct milk. It was sort of a long latte. But way too weak to fit that description either. A flat white is a large espresso shot with about equal amounts foam in a quite small cup. Sent it back for an americano. The americano was very nice, made with a nice quality coffee, but served in the same sized weird plastic cup. The plastic cup has a weird smell. It’s just wrong. Wife had a hot chocolate. Pretty sure it was instant hot chocolate. Really, this needs to be a proper cocoa-based drink, not something you get from a vending machine. Not being harsh but coffee is in the name of your shop so start by getting the basic drinks right and served in some nice cups. You wouldn’t expect a margarita in a pint glass after all. Nice roman column out the back. I mean I know the difference between a cortado and a flat white. Negligible. Both are about 150ml. Also both are served in the same size ceramic cups. What I got was 330ml of hot milk in a weird recycled mug. I refer you to my Obscure Coffee review above. That… is a flat white.

Don't bother if you require dairy free options. £4.45 for oat latte, no excuse for those prices. It's a cute place but there are on par or better nice places that charge a more reasonable price on that street and around the city.

Vibe check: Decor-hip coffee shop, this was nice! Food-homemade, slightly disappointing Hot drinks-didn't try so cannot comment Right so the vibes inside are lovely. Really nicely laid out. Big fan of the chairs funnily enough. But on the topic of food I'll put it this way: For the prices being charged, I guess I expected a bit more sophistication. Or conversely if the food was about 15% or so less RRP, then I suppose I wouldn't have this lingering feeling of being a bit underwhelmed. I have no doubt the food is very fresh, ingredients wise, but it almost feels like the person making the food is doing so because they're able to rather than because they love to. Again, a job is a job and I wish them well, I'd just caution that perhaps temper expectations when it comes to the food when compared to the setting. Caveat: we didn't have hot drinks so cannot comment in that regard, only say that in terms of a hip little coffee establishment, it'll probably suffice.

A fantastic family friendly cafe, we had a pleasant visit the owner was very helpful. Would definitely recommend over a lot of the cafes in the central area of Chester. The coffee’s themselves where smooth with a good flavour and the home made cookies are a treat. Will definitely visit again.

Wir hatten den Meal Deal mit Bacon&Chicken Sandwich, Mature Cheddar Cheese Sandwich, Coffee Vienna und Latte. Die Sandwiches wurden frisch zubereitet und waren sehr lecker. Auch Carrot Cake (saftig!), Chocolate Caramel Slice (cremig!), Chocolate Oat Slice sowie das Chocolate Chip Shortbread sind zu empfehlen. Der Service ist sehr freundlich. Wir werden hier gern wieder einkehren.

Me and my partner went for brunch on Saturday just gone. By far the best food and coffee we have had for brunch in a long time. Reasonably priced and high quality. Food arrived very quick also! I went for Mexican brunch and partner chicken chilli baguette. Flat white coffee & almond milk coffee with caramel syrup. £22~, highly recommend!

The hot breakfast menu was a bit fancy/fussy for me but there was a good selection. The pastries and cakes and drinks were delicious. Service fab too 🙂

We've so far, been to Panna five or six times and the food has been consistently amazing every time. I would highly recommend giving it a try. If you can't decide on what to eat, I recommend the the pasta pot with chicken and bacon, or the sweet chilli chicken baguette. They're both delicious and full of flavour.
