An independent coffee house selling just more than coffee.

Had to amend my review down from 5 stars. I understand it's under new management, and unfortunately, it shows. Food is fine, but the service and attention to detail has slipped. Firstly, it isn't noted who has entered first. I've witnessed tables being passed on their orders when they obviously had been waiting longer. My party have had, a pot of tea for two when only one was ordered, missing milk, missing serviettes on separate visits. If it doesn't improve, folk will go elsewhere. I'm prepared to give it a another chance. On the plus side, they have started a loyalty scheme.

Been coming for over 22years. The food service and staff was amazing when Tony owned the place. Went down hill when his son took over and now is worse. The food is shocking undercooked and of poor quality. The staff (what staff) not polite, the place is dirty. Tony never once had it like this.

Is it possible to get a better value breakfast in Hull, I would say not. Only a few minutes walk across from the train station. This clean cafe served us up a great breakfast with tea and camomile tea... Yes the sausages could be better, however black pudding, bacon, mushrooms all excellent and fantastic value... Support local, we will certainly pop back when we're in Hull City centre.

This cafe is under new management. And have greedily put as much as £2.50 on a set. Meal we went June 17th looked at the menu and walked out, come back Francis, pure greed will never go back after being a regular for years.

Haven't been in for a while. We have been going in for 25yrs. I believe it has changed hands now. Sat at a table and waited patiently. A few people sat down after us. The waitress showed about 4 people and a wheelchair user, to their table. The waitress had passed us at least 3 times, while serving. The waitress was clearing plates and taking payments from other customers. She apologised to us and the table behind us, stating she wouldn't be long. Only to see her taking the order, from the table she had just sat down. We got up to leave. My husband pointed out that it was our turn to be served. She told my husband she wasn't a mind reader. Nobody asked her to read our minds, maybe to be aware of who is waiting and in what turn. The service was top notch, efficient and certainly did not ignore customers, with the previous owners. An apology would have been better. The last time we will go. Customer service is too far down the list, if on at all, for my liking.

Our go-to breakfast place after attending a Sunday Mass. Food tastes great, with prices that are insanely cheaper compared to others. Locals love this place, and we too. I couldn't point out anything negative. Truly a gem.

Cheap prices so expect cheap food and cutlery and never had a breakfast from anywhere and still being hungry. It is also quite cold in the cafe even at mid-day.

Been before and great service but went in today with my son. After sitting there for ten minutes in a quiet cafe with no one coming to take our orders we left. The lady who was serving was just stood socialising with another table not even acknowledging we’re sat there!

Top notch Food ! Omlettes are Brilliant , with good freindly , efficient, Service ! With a Very Good Price tag!!!!

We had a breakfast in the coffee house the week leading upto christmas it was nice and hot and good for the price pot of tea was hot and strong service good .cheap abd cheerful got what I paid for

Such a cosy, place to visit for a really reasonably priced and comforting lunch. The staff are always lovely and the food never disappoints. Will always keep coming back here.

When arriving the service to order drinks was fast, to receive the drinks we waited about ten minutes, we waited a further twenty minutes to be asked what we wanted to eat, in which time people that were waiting to be served had already gotten up and left. I ordered an omelet with cheese, tomatoes, mushrooms and prawns. I received the omelet after about ten minutes of waiting and started eating. about a quarter of the way through the meal I noticed ham in the omelet. I only eat fish, not meat so when seeing this I spat the food straight out. The omelet was taken to the server and they asked to see the ticket in a way of suggesting that we had ordered incorrectly rather then the staff making the mistake. When they had realized that they were at fault for the kitchen making the wrong item they were extremely apologetic and offered to make the meal again free of charge. Sadly, by this point the damage had been done and I said to the server that if the so called 'cook' cannot read a ticket then I do not trust them or want anything that I know they have prepared. When we left the restaurant I noticed that they have an A4 piece of paper in the window to hire another cook. My suggestion would be to make this into a billboard and make sure that this is done sooner rather then later, a lot of people would go here regularly but looking at recent reviews the staff that have been hired are ruining the experience for a lot of the customers and the reputation of the establishment.

Nice cup of coffee from a family run café in a quiet street, with a couple of outside tables in the morning sun.

Very disappointed after 20 mins got our drinks tea was returned as it was Luke warm ... after another 20 mins wait for meals decided to leave appreciate they was busy. should have trained up their staff before letting them loose on the public after many years of using this place , sorry to say we won't be back

Possibly the worst service and level of care I have ever experienced. I have traveled far and wide and have never been served tea without there being tea involved in the process. It was genuinely a pot of water and I was treated like an idiot when I asked for a teabag. In addition, the toast and side I ordered came out a lovely seven minutes before the main breakfast which meant that they were both cold. I also specified no beans (I have an annoying allergy I apologise) and the breakfast came with beans regardless of my request. When I reminded the server, they huffed and puffed as though not wanting to go to hospital is a silly desire. The person running the front of house appeared to be more interested in arguing with a patron to the side of me rather than ensuring that the basic requirements of running a food establishment were met. In the end I paid without arguing because I was already desperate to leave without the staff making more rude comments. If the owners see this, please have a discussion with the staff about basic decency and procedure. Blaming the poor service on the wait staff being in university is not OK in any circumstance.

A lovely town centre cafe with polite and friendly staff and great food at a decent price. I'm a regular visitor on a Saturday morning nowadays.

Long-established cafe offering good array of traditional meals

came with my mom on sunday after a little shopping trip around 2:30ish (we didn’t check the closing times), we both got a sandwich and a coffee, food arrived really quickly, and the portion was really big for the price (£3.95, we got a huge sandwich and a side of crisps, we both left full). coffee was delicious, lots of variety, atmosphere was amazing and welcoming. i asked for a takeaway cup for my coffee after paying and the lady as staff were putting furniture away and we didn’t want to hold them up, lady from the kitchen came and spoke to us and said we don’t have to go, they’re only washing up, and we had a really lovely chat with her before leaving. could not recommend enough, the atmosphere, staff and food is fantastic and really affordable 💓

Small locally run cafe, staff are nice, polite and do there best to get people there food quickly and that they enjoy being there. Cheapest breakfast you'll find around, classic cafe dishes available

Very nice friendly atmosphere god food

We eat regularly at The Coffee House have done for many years, sad to see its up for sale. We visited today 27.1.23 its was extremely busy with limited staff, but as always great food & service & Terri our server was just amazing considering the cafe was full & she was taking orders & serving during a very busy time. I hope if it does sell it remains a cafe & the staff jobs are safe.

Lovely warm welcoming cafe, staff very welcoming and friendly, food is good, definitely value for money, very busy which is good for business, Toni the waitress is amazing, she goes above and beyond nothing is to much trouble, she needs a medal for running front of house on her own the way she does when it's so busy. This cafe has been open since I was a small child. I am 61 now! It's a cosy plenty of seating cafe. The food is really good. I have tried jacket potatoes with fillings of choice. Very well presented. Steak pie with mash or chips. Substantial is an understatement! This week I tried haddock and chips. It was ok but could have been better. I still enjoyed it. The staff are so friendly and nothing is to much trouble. The prices are amazing. I would recommend paying a visit. But if you want luxury seating, up to date lighting and an ambience of upper class life where you are charged triple the price for honour, this place isnot for you.

What can i say if you like good food good service and nice atmosphere it's the place to be.

Went in for some coffee, I noticed they were disclosing on the menu board that they are using genetically modified soy products here which is known to be toxic to humans and the coffee was very weak, tasted more like hot milky water than coffee, unfortunately I will be certain to avoid using this place again, it's a shame really as these independent places are going out of business due to the competition from the likes of Costa and Nero

This is a time capsule gem in the heart of Hull City Centre. It seems to be unchanged since the sixties heyday of Coffee houses. Simple dishes cooked perfectly and a wide choice of hot and cold drinks. A must visit whenever I'm in town

Great place to come, can get quite busy but always worth waiting for a seat. The food is lovely and the coffees are always a welcomed treat. This is our usual to eat at and would not say go elsewhere, great service, inviting place and lovely food.

I think Coffee House has new owners,last time I was in here they did cooked dinners. The sandwich was ok what I had. I would have preferred a cooked dinner though. friendly staff.

We've been here a fair number of times, and we usually get omlettes (cheese and tomato, cheese and onion, or cheese and mushroom) with salad and chips - with coffee or tea to drink. Food tastes great, service is speedy and friendly, and the value is great. I also like the atmosphere - usually it's very quiet, with no music on. Conversations are mostly quiet, so it's easy to hear your own group.

One of our three meals needed to be re heated , but still lovely service.

been In here many times and always had good food and good service went in today Fri 16/10/2020 we only had a snack sandwich and coffee but there was one arrogant customer which the owner dealt with in a professional manner WELL DONE TO THE MANAGER.

Came in for a quick lunch. Had ham and cheese omelette with a decaf white coffee. Good covid protocols. My little coffee had a frothy top rather than just cold milk but tadted nice enough. The omelette was really nice but not really cheesy. The chips rather bland sadly. The ketchup was watery sachets which was a shame. The side salad was fresh, and it was nice to have some grated carrot, not just a bit of lettuce, tomatoe and cucumber. Friendly customer service.
