This place is great. Getting a full meal under £10 in the middle of Hampstead.

Great cafe. Recommend the full English. Very affordable.

My heart sunk a little when I realised I had walked into an Italian restaurant and the menu was of the horrible type, a plastic folder with all sorts of food listed .. However, the eggs royal were cooked to perfection, the hollandaise with the right tanginess, the eggs itself good quality. Service was efficient, for once didn’t have to ask for ice in my freshly squeezed OJ. Presentation was lacklustre though, a sprinkle of chives or paprika on the eggs would have gone a long way and the metal chairs did not belong to the wooden panelled room with red seats. Had I had reception on my phone to check it out I would have not ventured inside, but glad I did !

Without a doubt the best siciliana penne pasta in London, if not the Uk, if not the world (no offence Italy) and I say this as someone who lived in Italy for a year. So, so delicious, everyone just try. Al dente, rich in oozing pomodori sauce, melanzane and copious amounts of olives and spinach! The best. We love, Nina & Anushka

By far one of the best pasta’s in london. Get the siciliana you won’t regret it - so rich and unique in flavour and deliciousness - it’s irreplaceable and a comfort food that is second to none. Cutest atmosphere, great people watching, cozy and yummy - a north london classic! I go at least once a week!

Went about towards their closing time in the middle of the week and managed to get a seat wherever we wanted. Calm atmosphere with an eye catching decoration.

Its a very busy place but with a nice vibe in a beautiful area. Service was good and the food was great. I ordered the veal milanese with spaghetti arrabiata and was delicious. Price/quality is good.

I had a scam call off the coffee cup number, asking emails and passwords and talking about our broadband, I rang the number back and said they have had a number of calls about this, please be careful. And I hope the coffee cup can get onto their provider and fix this issue

Ate on outside tables, very nice atmosphere. Food is fantastic and in large portions.

Deservedly very busy at weekends, especially Sunday lunchtimes, and so sometimes feels a bit cramped for space. A good old style diner. Generous servings.

I found the staff to be rather rude and unhelpful... they don't let dogs inside so we waited for over 30 mins for a table outside where they proceeded to give 2 other people tables and said well they got to the table first.

Mix match reviews I see where it come from. But hey great place to visit and see for yourself. I highly recommend great value and experience.

This was the worst place we went to on a recent trip to London. It looks wonderful, its always packed to the gills, and its in a nice location...the menu should have been our first clue. It had absolutely everything on it. Well the omelette my mother ordered was brown and lumpy, tasteless. If you don't know how to make something, don't put it on the menu. The secret of this place, is that it's so full, that everyone thinks it's good. As a couple walked in, I wanted to shout, "run," but alas I didn't. Aw well, live and learn. Two stars is for the waiter, who wasn't terrible.

An average vegetarian breakfast with average silent table service, but the main draw are outdoor tables ideal for sunny weekends. Not much to say that has not been said previously. Limited outdoor tables but large indoor venue, untouched by modernity. Limitied mobility access to steep downstairs toilets.

Amazing and cheap, chicken burger and chips for £12, great price especially considering location.

The coffee was so horrible we had to buy a Starbucks to get rid of the taste.

Have not been here in 35 plus years. Brought back some fun memories. Inside has not really changed nor had the service. Menu and food was good. Raison toast was just what the doctor ordered 😂

If I could put 0 stars I would. I sat with my mom and ordered food. The owner told me “you sit where I tell you”. Bare in mine I was the only person of colour there. Got up left straight away.

One day I went to eat and everything was fine until I saw how a manager mistreated his employee in front of the customer. How could it not be when no one sees him? That was very unpleasant and embarrassing for me to see that situation. What a pity ! These things happen in a city like London, which is characterized by the human rights of the citizen.

The staff was friendly, creating a nice atmosphere. However, the food, while okay, leaned towards the basic side, and some dishes were unfortunately over salted. It was an acceptable experience, but I don't see myself revisiting.

Highly recommend I took my wife and 2 best men to the restaurant for a fine dinner. We each had the schnitzel. The pasta could have used slightly more salt though.

Even 1 star is too much. The food was bad, not tasty, too much salty. The waiter look angry when we ask to add some dish. Bad experience :(

This place is our go-to place for a weekend family lunch! Not only is the staff and atmosphere super welcoming the food is always, and I mean always, super fresh and delicious, consistency is key here! This is a rare gem in Hampstead and I could not recommend it enough! All we can say from our side is - thank for all your hard work and high standards!!

My last review was reported, probably by the same manager that yelled at me for not wanting to drink the terrible coffee I was served To quote he said " I know it's burnt!" , If you know it isn't good, why are you serving it? I didn't want to pay but he was getting increasingly angry and patronising towards me. I wouldn't go back.

Lovely spot for quick breakfast.

I had a very unpleasant experience there on the weekend. We wanted to have a nice coffee and toastie with my boyfriend and unfortunately chose this cafe, which ruined our day a little bit. The staff was extremely rude, especially the older waiters. We felt unwelcome, they almost seemed angry that we sat there. They forgot my partner’s coffee inspite of us asking for it several times. The food was ok, poorly presented, my capouccino was so bad I left it there. Shame on them as there are some many competitors nearby, I wonder why they don’t make a bigger effort.

Eating at the Coffee Cup was a horrible experience. The younger staff were nice but the older staff members were incredibly rude. We were treated like an inconvenience and partner was almost told off by them because she asked to use the bathroom. I can't complain about the value of the food, the coffee was good enough but I felt I had to rush my meal just to get out of there. There are plenty of other cafes in the area where customers are valued, this is one to avoid.

I do like it here, but I find if something you don't like about your food or if the order has been taken wrong by waiter its a bit of an issue to replace or rectify. Could do with a little updating in the decor and menu.

I’m literally surprised of the good reviews! It was one of the worst food I had in a long time. Staff were polite and not what was described in other reviews (which was the only good point). As we were waiting for our food, they brought food for the table next to us and even by looking at that, I just wished I could walk out of the restaurant... We had the most chewy calamari for starter and for main I had a £15 fish and chips that was worse than the one I once had in a hospital for free !

Cracking.little place with large portions of good food!

I went here with my friend. Because we aren't ordering meals from the cafe, the waitress requested that we sit outside. However, I could see two white women sitting at a table by the door simply enjoying a cup of coffee, as well as more than three unoccupied tables inside. It was nevertheless fine. There were two heaters where we were sitting outside. I asked the waiter to turn on the heater, but she refused my request, claiming that they were broken. Later on five white British people arrived and sat down next to us and a waiter immediately came and turned on the heater only on their side. As a result, he turned it on for us when I requested him to. I was furious. They didn't even ask, but I could tell that everyone was happy to have them. And despite my repeated requests, nothing was done. After discussing this with the staff, I discovered that the waitress who had been serving us had either left or perhaps had no desire to return. The staff stated that it is unrelated and that he will apologise the following time. I most certainly won't return.

Unfortunately this place is on the AVOID list. "UPDATE - just found out their food hygiene rating is 2 ! - that is disgusting" First of all, the "manager" immediately got defensive and argued with me over the quality of my drink. Which was a burnt disgusting mess of an latte, which he agreed with. (I always wonder why they let this get served if they know it's bad) I tried nothing to be polite but he got increasingly patronising, telling me how he just cleaned the machine. News for you, cleaning the machine doesn't improve anything if your beans are burnt and your staff how no clue how to operate a steam wand heating the milk to a burnt disaster. I asked if I could not pay for that drink. He looked pissed. And basicly said no I'll make you another. As you can imagine, I didn't particularly want anything else from this place. Strange atmosphere, very quiet and cramped interior with a bad layout meaning servers constantly squeezing past you. 1/10

G'day mate, blimey I've had a better experience being stuck in the bush with nothing but a toothbrush. Unfortunately this place is on the AVOID list.

The Manager needs to be replaced. His service was abysmal. Avoid this place unless you want to be shouted at. Espresso was burnt, the milk was burnt, and tasted soapy. Disgusting.

Decent, it’s popular and crowded but decor isn’t fantastic, drinks average and they made us move tables and then told us to leave after an hour because they had people waiting outside - which wasn’t particularly nice.

I am very upset. This WAS my favourite restaurant. But… they just got a 2 star Hygiene Rating, having previously been a 5. I would come here weekly to have a Veal, sometimes chicken Milanese, with my family, friends and everyone! I am now scared to come here because of the terrible hygiene recently reported. I know the manager and others very well, and this has been a family restaurant of mine for YEARS. not anymore. coffee cup! when will you act on this?!

This is a great place to get a good meal - dessert or latte/ coffee. The environment is very classic and the waitstaff are always lovely. I love their cheesecake.

So annoyed! Was calling up this morning to ask a question about the breakfast meat before I place an order. The person working at the restaurant keeps on picking up the phone and not taking.

Abysmal experience and upsetting actually. Went in last week for a soup which took so long I had to get take away in end. This week gave a second try and took my son as we go to class nearby. We stood waiting unacknowledged for so long we found our own table in the end. Whereupon we were just told we were in the way and could I move my bag and could we sit somewhere else. My son was so hungry by this point he started trying to eat snack food I had in our bag. I told him not to. This seemed to be only reason someone finally came to see what we want. My son got really upset he couldn’t eat. I asked for what my son wanted but the man was so unpleasant to my son I decided to leave. It was -3 outside and they knew my son was hungry but they let us leave and were shirty. When outside I realised there were few places serving any hot food at all. Can’t believe - a more horrible experience would be hard to find.

Have been going to the coffeecup for decades…..it’s not the welcoming place it used to be. The manager is a misery, the opposite of welcoming and tonight he couldn’t be bothered to talk to us at our our table when we complained to our waiter that there were many midges flying around us and our food all evening long. We spoke to him as we left and gave him a chance to apologize, but he wasn’t bothered! We told people coming in not to bother!

Poor service - on entry, I asked if there was wifi available. The answer was yes. However, once I had ordered a drink, I was told it was temperamental. Then when it didn’t work at all, I was told by the waitress that it never works on her phone! I had to leave as the only reason I had come in was to make a call - they still charged me for my drink!

MANAGER SPLASHED PLATE ALL OVER US Absolutely vile experience. The steak was charcoaled so I attempted to send the steak back and order something else. The manager was upset with the comment on his overcooked steak and smashed the plate above his head all over the floor and my table. SHOCK!

10/10!! If you want real Italian food this is the place to go. Brilliant food & huge portions!! Seating is fairly limited as its quite small inside and expect to queue (totally worth it). We ordered the tricole salad & garlic bread for starters. Mains we had the lasagne and the aubergine arrabbiata penne pasta. You can mix & match which pasta you want and how spicy. Service is excellent! this is my go to place!!!

The general vibe was " take it or leave it"? They were pretty dismissive of my enquiry about dogs coming inside - "ABSOLUTELY not". Fair enough, but the woman looked outraged at the very idea (pretty stupid business sense, given the amount of pampered canines in the area). Service was slow, and the guy at the business end of la cuente was difficult to pin down, and ***** * off several times during our attempts to actually give him money. I was very reluctant to pay the service charge, but it's difficult nowadays to do this without creating a scene, and I'm far too English to do such a thing!! So - not terrible, but one gets the impression that it is coasting on its sheer longevity. UP YOUR GAME is my advice, Coffee Cup. I won't be recommending you any more, sadly.

My niece and I visited this restaurant yesterday and I was appalled at how downhill the food has gone since my last visit a good five years ago. I grew up in Hampstead and The Coffee Cup was always somewhere you went for a nice coffee and a bite to eat. I ordered the vegetarian breakfast and it was pretty inedible. The food was probably from ‘ Iceland’ with the vegetarian sausage being one of those cheap sweetcorn and carrot type things- horrible! The hash brown was worse than one you’d get in McDonalds and the greasy mushrooms and tasteless tomatoes were left on the plate too! Worse than the food was the fact the waiter had dropped a drink and it went all over my niece’s trousers! I had to ask him for paper towels and he never apologised until I made a comment! Apparently though, it’s even worse when the manager is there as he is openly rude to customers- suggesting they ‘ take away’ , if they just want drinks! Never again!

So sad to read here about the poor standards at the coffee cup. I used to go there daily in the 90's when I worked at the shoe store across the road. Great memories of their excellent coffees, raison toast etc.....sounds like the original owners have long gone. Shame.

We used to come here all the time especially before CoVID and it was always absolutely brilliant but I think it's changed owners because whilst the staff were really friendly and attentivez sadly the food wasn't great.....the smoked salmon sandwich was just served plain on its own dumped on a plate with no lemon, no garnish nothing and my friend's eggs Benedict were plain and cold. Also my friend wanted raisin toast but they didn't have any in (mid morning on a weekday) Not impressed

Ristorante molto carino posizionato in una zona molto frequentata di Hampstead. Clientela prevalentemente giovanile. Ambiente rilassante con possibilità di consumare all'aperto. Ottimi piatti e servizio veloce. Buone le pennette siciliane. Squisito il pane all'aglio. Buonissima la torta di mele con ice cream alla vaniglia. Buon vino "Merlot". Prezzo giusto (circa 80 pounds in due) , in linea con i prezzi attuali di Londra. Consigliato per una buona cena dopo una giornata faticosa.

Se vi trovate nella zona di Hampstead e state cercando un locale in cui mangiare qualcosa che non sia un hamburger, questo ristorante potrebbe prestarsi. Ci sono alcuni piatti italiani (o presunti tali) un buon menù, in linea con Londra ma qui è possibile anche fare una buona colazione. Noi abbiamo cenato optando per il pane all'aglio e formaggio come antipasto e devo dire che era buonissimo. Per primo abbiamo scelto pennette alla siciliana e pennette all'arrabbiata: un discreto tentativo ma, com'è ovvio, siamo davvero lontani dalle "originali". Il dolce davvero ottimo: Aplle Pie con gelato alla vaniglia, accompagnata da Whisky caldo con miele e limone, quest'ultimo inaspettatamente favoloso. Il vino? Un Merlot di (molto) media qualità, appena gradevole. La scelta è piuttosto limitata. La Brexit ha creato un danno del quale molti ristoratori ci hanno parlato: prezzi alle stelle per le impostazioni. Prezzo nella media londinese (che ormai è più cara del 15% almeno). È possibile mangiare sia all'aperto sia dentro il ristorante che è piuttosto grande. Il servizio è eccellente: efficace, efficiente, veloce. Da provare.

The service here is appalling and the waitress is so rude - lots of reviews here saying the same thing!! After being ignored for 15 minutes my husband went inside to check if it was table service or if you order at the counter. The waitress said table service and she would be out in a minute. She then went on to serve the table next to us even though they arrived after us. Another 10 minutes went by so I went in to find her and she said she would be out in 2 minutes. She then went to serve another table, took another tables bill and then began to clear other tables. We ended up walking out.
