The Codfather in Cambridge

Awful food, delivered slightly late but not awfully so. Proteins looked and tasted ad though they had either been under hot lights for a day or too, or just horribly cooked. Chips, soggy, cool. Looked at the bizarre reviews after receiving and amused by the clearly fake ones, and disgusting responses by the restaurant to other negative reviews.

The WORST fish and chips I have ever eaten. Nothing else to say. Absolutely awful.

It was delayed 45 mins I tried cancel I tried call the restaurant several times it kept telling me it was gonna be another 10 mins by time it arrived my daughter gone work,i was in bed it was refused via ring app no pineapple fritter even

Was over 1 hour later and when i tried to contact them it was saying cant connect your call. When the food did finally arrive it was awful chips where unedible full of black bits. Ordered spicy potatoes which didnt arrive. Would not recommend

The fish and chips were incredibly satisfying. The quality of the ingredients was immediately apparent. Each bite was bursting with flavour. It was a truly delightful dining experience. I will definitely be returning for more.

I asked for a refund as £55 worth of food was missing and I never received it.

This wonderful fish fry shop we stopped by during our trip to Cambridge was great. The potatoes are large and very tasty, the fish portions are very large and satisfying. Their wonderful sauce was very good with the fish. The staff here are very friendly and kind people. Thank you for your wonderful meals.

We ordered 2 meal: 1) fish and chips plus drink 2) chicken wings with chips plus drink. They just put all food to one bag, add many strange sausages what we didn’t order, was only 3 wings (should have been 5) and didn’t bring any drinks. All food was disgusting as their service. Attached the pic.

I went today to the codfather fish and chips shop in Barnwell Road and was served by a gentleman i believe the owner he was very polite and helpful and was sold the very best fish and chip that I haven't had for ages so please and good price for it also I am recommending this place for a good service and food well done keep up the good work Sal

Ordered online is over an hour delayed. And store isn’t answering. (update) Food came 2 hours late, and it tasted like it! chips aren’t even fully cooked. Just look at the picture. Cod was leaking through the plastic bag and cold. How i rated it on uber eats was all one stars and then. 5 on portions. But it’s sad because i haven’t eaten all day and im throwing this awful food away.

I recently visited Cod Father, and I must say it’s hands down one of the best fish and chip spots I’ve tried. From the moment I walked in, the staff were warm and friendly, making me feel right at home. The cod? Absolutely out of this world! The portion was enormous, and the fish was cooked to perfection—crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside. It’s hard to find cod this fresh and delicious anywhere else. And the curry sauce? Spot on! It had the perfect consistency, not too thick or too runny, and just the right hint of spice to pair perfectly with the fish. The portions were generous, the flavors were incredible, and the service was excellent. Highly recommend Cod Father if you’re craving top-quality fish and chips!

The meal was poor. Nothing had been labelled. It was all squashed and limp. Fish was dry, batter was flabby, chips were soft. The appearance suggested it had long since been cooked and squashed into a small bag, then toted round Cambridge in a car.

Right..i have made some pretty bad reviws of the Codfather recently...ie..poor food..chips sharp and cold...fish rancid/smelling..dirty shop..inc counters..rude/nasty staff.....it seems its under new management now...so i thought i would give it another try...wish i hadnt,,,fish was 5mm thick and dry..with soggy batter..not crispy...chips were like before..small end bits with sharp edges..again cold...i bpought 2 pukky pies for my son...never seen this type before...smaller than we buy from tesco etc..and sealed in cellophane..heated up and all clammy and stodgy when opened...i think this outfit are just trying to co us engloish folk...please avoid !

Well after dreadful experiences of the last owners..ie rancid fish..cold sharp ends of chips..rude staff..who thought they were bodybuilders alone..and greasy dirty shop...saw its now under new ownership..so gave it another go...if anything its worse than before.8mm thick cod..with soggy batter..not crispy....coid was so dry inside..chips yet again just sharp offcuts..and cold..i ordered 2 pukky pies for my so...well they were half the size we get from supermarkets..sealed in celophane..once opepened all soggy...this place is beyond belief...please avoid it !!!!

Placed an order at 8:30pm on just eat, 35/40 mins for delivery. We have 2 children waiting for their dinner after a busy day. The order was then cancelled after an hour and a half later at 10:01pm. I am disgusted as they are still taking orders, even though ours was cancelled. We now have to wait days for a refund, we have hungry tired children and it's too late to order an alternative. Really bad customer services, total lack of communication. Lazy staff that don't want to deliver to far out into villages, though they made the obligation to do so through just eat. Totally Disgusted!!!

The best portion I ever had in Cambridge. Curry sauce is a must and it’s creamy and tasty. Best service by the fellow members out there especially the delivery guys ,so friendly and and greet every time delivering food. Overall excellent service.

I stopped at this halal fish and chips shop on the way home after visiting Cambridge with the wife. The owner was very pleasant and welcoming. He fried a fresh batch of fish and chips, generous portions, crispy batter, succulent fish. Would definitely go back if I’m in the area. Thank you

Always enjoyed the food but sadly need to rethink about the delivery…£3 delivery ok, 50p service charge ok but, £1 for bag is just ridiculous!

I ordered fish and chips, they were not ready when I showed up. The chips had no salt or vinegar and I was not offered them at the till. The chips were burnt and brown, the fish had the strangest thinest batter. All very greasy

Oh my goodness! Do not get your Fish and Chips here. The guy who sold me this piece of bone dry old fish in over cooked batter, plus a second bit that was mostly chewy fish skin inside gave absolutely no indication it was going to be so dreadful! How was he not embarrassed to charge £10 for fish so stale and so dry ? It was literally inedible. I wish I'd opened it in the shop! If this is how they usually work - I'd warn people against buying anything from the Cod Father Cambridge, ever - despite the cool name. The chips were poor too - not fresh, not crispy - just truly disappointingand a waste of money. It was only 6.30pm and the shop is open till 11pm. One can only imagine....Tummy in pain and I only managed a few of the chips.

The photo says it all. It was supposed to be cod and chips. I've no idea how old that fish is, but it's dry as a bone and full of chewy congealed skin. I'd be embarrassed if I'd sold this to anyone. Chips aren't much better!

Large portions overall, Batter on the sausage was soft/ soggy and a lot of the chips hard/green and unable to be eaten.

Well...you may have seen a few reviews for this place over the last couple of months. Just a short recap.....First order a couple of mths ago...3 large cod and chips....wasnt very cheap When i got it home..(i only live 5 mins away in Newmarket Rd for the time being)....Unwrapped the fish and chips....well there was a awful smell from the fish..like ammonia...looked up on google and its when the fish is decomposing...charming. What made it worse was my son who is 20 had come home from university for the weekend..he is studying to be a Doctor at Cambridge University...(yes my eonewife cooked a proper Sunday dinner for him on the Sunday...we didnt subject him to takeaways twice in a row..lol) I tried to phone to complain...this was about 8pm on a Sat.....after 8 tries somone and donanswered and saiud he was the owner of this place. When i complained about the meal..he got very abusive..i cant write what he said on here as it was not nice...basicaly told me to P off and dont come back.... after this bad experience i looked up reviews ...and there are loads saying how bad this outfit is I did try to give the owner a second chance earlier..explaining my problems and i would be giving this bad review All he said was he didn't care...i'm only here to make money...i dont care if customers are unhappy. !....Charming !

It's the second time I've been here and the second time I've been wowed by the portions and overall quality! Large cod (this thing was huuuuge! And only £2 more... you definitely get your moneys worth here!! It was so large, it had to be bent over in the equally as large recyclable takeaway box!Chip portion of small was also much larger than expected including the curry sauce which was equal to twice as much and half what I would normally pay. It goes to show, that we are getting so used to paying so much for shrunken down portions that when we get quality food for less and the portion sizes that should reflect the price, then these businesses will always be supported by their local community. Also, just to add in here, the staff were constantly cheerful and chatty to their customers, including me, rarity these days and warming to see. Thanks guys! P.s. I forgot to take a photo as I was so hungry and wanted to get it from the plate to my mouth ASAP!! 😆

Ordered food, which consisted of a chicken burger. Morons at the restaurant who are about as useless as an Ashtray on a motorbike decided off there own back to put mayo and lettuce on it, don't like lettuce, can take that out, but when you allergic to egg, that's not good. Phoned up to complain, was told to get a refund through uver Eats abd to re order a chicken burger elsewhere. Absolute rude, arrogant and careless attitude. Not ordering again and suggest you don't either. Disgusting behaviour.

I ordered 2 x 1/4 chicken and chips, we got turkey legs and cold chips. I called them but they denied that they we're turkey legs but they we're definitely turkey legs. If I could puy a picture on here I would. Ended up throwing mine away as the turkey was dry and tasteless. Not happy at all and definitely won't be back

Fish was really dry and hardly not fish especially at the bottom was not nice pure batter. Used to be so nice here but doesn’t taste the same anymore gone very down hill over rated and over priced I’m disappointed and it’s expensive! Not worth the money.

Quality was rather naff. The pie came still in its plastic wrapper and more soggy than crisp, so I can only assume someone just threw it in the microwave before sending it to me. Chips were less than average. Won’t be ordering from here again.

I have been waiting for a hour and 10 mins for my order and still no respond from then I have called them at least 8 times and still no respond and there has no communication whatsoever, I begin to think I am getting scams so I hope this issue get solved as possible and hope other people won't have to go through this.

My whole order of three separate meals came all together wrapped together in one giant paper wrap, sent me 5 pork sausages that I don’t eat mixed in with my whole order too. Never ordering from this place again.

chicken was nice, pie alright but the chips tasted like cardboard and were cold! very disappointed for the price of it all and sadly wont be ordering there again :(

Ordered food and was told that it would be a hour and then they messaged an hour later saying that they cancelled the order and no explanation for the cancellation, now have hungry kids and no response from them.

Both times I have used this in store and a delivery, have been terrible. I don't know how they cook their pies, as they are all wet and soggy like they have been in the microwave. I got given burnt food after sitting there ages waiting for. I gave them the benefit of it just being an off day in the hope it would be better. But it unfortunately wasn't.

Very crispy fish and chips, love it , great service, run by Turkish brothers. They are very friendly and helpful. I have asked the skin of the cod fish and they have done it. Thank you so much guys

The best fish & chips I've ever eaten! Low prices and very large portions. The fish is fried perfectly, crunchy and very digestible but above all you can taste the fish flavour. The fries are great, huge portions. Very very kind and helpful guys. I will be a regular customer!

The only thing that was warm was the curry sauce, The chip, sausages and nuggets tasted like they had been cooked and then reheated, I have eaten here before and never had an issue but will not again. The whole order had to be thrown away.

Nice and hot, however curry was really thick and concentrated, so wasn't great til I added a bit of boiling water,chips were dry and tasted scorched but not normally that way. Huge portions though. Peas and fishcakes excellent

Pathetic. says they will deliver on just eat. take my money when order put in. gives me a delivery time of 30 mins. then 20 mins later cancel the order saying i wanted to cancel which i didn't so they obviously wont deliver to the place that they say they do on just eat. now i'm hungry because they have messed me around....

cheese burgers have no cheese! no salad, no sauce... nothing. The battered sausage is stale. I probably would have felt a little better if it was so expensive! I can't believe I've wasted my money on this.

Good point: Good portions. Chips were old, dry & chewy. The curry spring roll was burnt on the outside. Only 1 portion of chips had salt & vinegar on after I left an additional note to put salt & vinegar on all items. This was my 2nd order from The Codfather & I will not be ordering from them again.

The chips was NOT of the quality we have been used to from CodFather.

The food wasnt very hot the burger was over cooked and was crispy and i ordered a savaloy but got sent a battered sausage which i dont like and somehow the steak and kidney pie was burnt and crispy on the bottom

One of the only places that was open tonight (Christmas eve) in cambridge. The service was great, nice and friendly staff. And the food was amazing.

Spring rolls were burnt- couldn’t eat them missed pickled eggs off of order. Food was cold when it arrived.

Was smoking cigarettes in the kitchen and I couldn't breath while eating. Had fish and chips with curry sauce (no drink). This was just under £15! That's very expensive especially for quality and quantity would be £7 at most anywhere else. Some places - it's hard to finish £7 portion and the quality is better too. Sorry guys - just my honest opinion.
