The Codfather in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

for a few years now we have been traveling up to Okehampton for fish n chips... (we call into one of the supermarkets on the same trip) as Fish and chips in Launceston don't compare to our regular chippy up there.. .... but today we tried the "Codfather" for the first time.... we were not disappointed . The staff were very pleasant even though they were busy ...We can "hand on heart" say that after a lengthy wait they are by far the best fish n chips in the area... lovely batter and white cod... really enjoyed them! However, The location is very poor and if you drive a car that is worth more than £75.50 you could be concerned with the parking arrangements ... so, its the shopping and chippy run up the A30 for us despite the Codfathers excellent fish and chips ...

This is the first fish and chips I have tried since moving to Launceston, I won't be going anywhere else. All the food was amazing, cooked fresh and brilliant service. Would highly recommend.

What an Amazing Fish and Chip Shop! On our way from Devon to Cornwall, we ordered Fish'n Chips from this Shop. We spotted it online with good reviews. Unbeknownst to us, there was a Carnival on, so lots of roads were closed off+ we couldn't find the Shop to collect the food. The marvellous lady who works there very kindly sprinted to where we stopped our stranded car, and handed us our delicious fish and chips, along with a sunny disposition! We so enjoyed eating the delicious fare, perfectly cooked, and piping hot, while enjoying the Launceston Carnival: What a happy evening! 10 out of 10 for the quality, taste + presentation of the food, and for Customer Service!

The best food in town, very helpful and friendly

Rude staff that act like it’s their first day on the job. Was told 30 minute wait for chips which was fine but it took 1 hour and 17 minutes!!! Avoid if your hungry!

Huge portions. Tasty fish and chips.

Living as a child with Whitby on my doorstep fish and chip places have a high standard to compare and compare well this place does. Busy with the locals as well which is always a good sign.

The food is excellent the staff are really friendly. Sometimes there is abit of a wait for the food but its well worth it and I'd give it more than 5 stars if it was possible

If there's only 2 of you, don't make the mistake of ordering a large portion of chips like we did. Feeds at least 4 adults!

Excellent food, the fish was literally bigger than the foam it's in and they don't mind if you eat there and they even have me a codfarther baseball cap! Amazing would recommend anyday best in Launceston and probably best in Cornwall!

Yuk. All greasy batter and little fish, and soggy chips.

Cheesey chips, the cheese isn't melted. But the staff are lovely and its not too expe sive.

Sadly the previous reviews, at least for me were misleading. Staff were lovely. Sadly chips sloppy and barely cooked, fish could have been lovely if it wasn’t swimming in oil and cooked a bit longer. Sorry to be so negative. The whole meal went in the bin.

Very good portion sizes. Chips fish and sausages were stunning. The only complaint were the onion rings sorry but they were limp and soggy and the breaded scampi. That was very pale looking and really mushed up inside

Codfather is unbeatable. It's hands down the best fish and chips I've tasted, and the portion sizes are great despite the low price. The hake is huge. As well as the standard fish and chip shop menu, they offer a great value monthly special. For example, in September you can get mozzarella sticks, medium chips and chilli dip for just £4.25! Codfather used to be at the entrance to Newport Industrial Estate and has now moved into a van on the old abattoir site on Dutson Road. 317debbiev seems to have got the wrong place judging by her review. The awful (and now closed) Sky Fish Bar was in Codfather's old premises and their food was terrible. I can well believe that they microwaved their chips. The Codfather absolutely does not. You can watch them fry them to the perfect fish 'n' chip shop consistency. Everything about the fish and chips is excellent. If I had to find something to criticise it would be that they don't put enough salt and vinegar on for my taste so I add extra at home.

As the title says, what fish and chip shop microwaves pre- cooked chips? Makes them flaccid and rubbery. Fish was dripping in oil - enough left over to fry the chips.Never again.

Delicious fish and chips! Very friendly and entertaining owners who helped pass the waiting time more quickly. The fish and chips were some of the biggest portions I've ever seen! No wonder this place is so popular! I cannot wait to visit again.

The best chip suppers I have had in 40+ years of eating chips from all around the UK, some came close but no one else is THE Codfather! Do not miss if you have the chance. And of course cooked and served by cheerfull happy people who know their business, spot on. Always a pleasure to collect and an awesomely satisfying experience.

As a returning customer for years. Good consistent quality. Sometimes when it is busy you may have to wait awhile. But I can assure you it is well worth waiting for! Very friendly service.

We ordered 2 large cod and large chips and some sausages & pies for the kids which we took home to eat. Large portions and well cooked, thoroughly recommend.

Great fish and chips, the portion sizes where generous and the staff where friendly, would recommend to anyone stopping in the area.

Really lovely people who run this chippy and they also serve up the best fish and chips in the area! Since discovered them I do not go anywhere else as they have hit it spot on. Lovely big portions of fish along with a mountain of chips and splashes of vinegar and dashes of salt - utterly scrumptious! Highly recommended to anyone within the area.

We were on a short break and were looking for fish and chips, having looked at TA and seen that this place had a good review we went there for dinner/tea, it's a food trailer set in a yard with a couple of garden benches to the side, which we thought were not really for sitting and eating, there was a queue when we got there and they only cook until early evening. The portions are big, the fish is fresh and tasty, the chips are great ... just don't order a large portion as they feed at least 3 people, we did and couldn't eat them all . :o)

Always made welcome at the Cod Father, fish cooked to order and always very good. Well priced and will take orders in advance to cut down waiting. Lovely owners and staff.

Today was my fist visit to The Codfather In Launceston. I could not face my normal lunch so decided to break out and try something new. What a lovely couple of people. Knowing what you are doing and making you feel welcome in the food industry sometimes gets forgotten. Not here. Great conversation and very welcoming so that is a very good start. I ordered fish and chips, it was cooked fresh, the batter was nice and crispy, the fish had lovely large bright white flakes and the chips were great. I am not a big chip eater and had to ask for my portion size to be reduced! I will be back, I cannot wait to sample some more. Well done to you both.
