The Codfather in Colchester

Always friendly when you arrive, and the fish and chips are absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked. I would highly recommend.

Terrible food. Over cooked dark crunchy cod, when I contacted to inform them of the over cooked food I was told it’s not over cooked it’s just dark from the oil! I was told i could take it back, but that meant going back out in the cold and it was 15 minutes until it closed so I wouldn’t of made it in time! The staff member I spoke to was defensive and harsh, I was polite but felt belittled. Needless to say it was discarded, even my cats didn’t want to try it!

I’ve ordered from the cod father twice now and both times the food and service has been exceptional. I love plaice but not everyone does it, the cod father do it very very well - the fish was so white and delicate the flavour so subtle. I ordered through just eat and wanted more salt and vinegar so I phoned the shop. The lady who took the call was so nice and helpful such a high standard every time I come to Colchester I’ll definitely order from the cod father!

This chip shop is absolutely outrageous, I have had food from this place 3 times and every time there has been ginger hair in my chips and the batty sausages are to greasy it’s like someone has poured sweat all over them. I give it a 0 out off 5 absolutely discusting!!

Omg. Did not receive full order via Deliveroo phoned the shop but told that have sent all the order and that we are lying about missing a cod and a pickled gherkin?? I was then told that they have experienced occasions when people say they have not received their order so she couldn't do anything but say sorry??? I was then hung up on. Called back and asked to speak to the manager but told they were "busy" and could not speak to me. Asked her if she knew the concept of customer service but did not get a reply other than "I'm busy". I was gob-smacked and this enraged me even more. I could not believe this sub-standard service. She then hung up again?? I will never order from the codfather again and will at every opportunity recommend others to steer clear of this takeaway. I will return to my normal fish and chip takeaway (oh my cod) whom I received nothing but great food, efficient delivery and excellent service. BTW I would award 0 stars if I could.

Visited for the first time during the lockdown for fish and chips. Not disappointed fish is always lovely, white, crispy batter and delicious. Our favourite chips too. Was worth waiting for, thoroughly enjoyed.

Ordered large cod and chips. Cod was not very large and chips were absolutely awful, some were nearly black but hard inside . Time to find a new chip shop

Went in for two fish and chips, normally cooked fresh, but this time the chips were a bit soggy and not as hot as they are usually and the fish was very dry and hard, not cheap at over £15. Will have to look for a different take a way.

Clean and friendly local Fish and Chip shop, unfortunately however, expensive and poor qjality food, chips had obviously been kept warm for some time and tasted terrible, the fish the same , total waste of money, threw most of it away, if you intend to use this place I suggest you ask for freshly cooked items, Will definately not be using The Codfather again, expensive bin filler
