This is the Daddy of fish n chips. Never had a bad meal from the place. All day special fish bites chips and side order is a absolute winner. My choice of side order is the mushy peas. They've got that proper old skool chippy taste. Best chippy around

Good consistent fish. Perfect as usual. Our lass' Kebab was poor. Hardly any donner meat and they're rationing the chilli and garlic sauce.

Normally a good place but today it was really poor.no scolopted fish cake.they had sausage but no batter sausage.they have not ran out of batter they just carnt be assed.poor service today will try somewhere else next time

Used to be the best chippy in Barnsley but now there's no reason for us to visit again. The quality of the food isn't consistently good any more, the prices are extortionate, I'd be willing to pay if I knew for certain the food would be good. But the final straw came today when I've just been served by the rudest woman I've ever met. We were unaware the mushy peas came on top of the all day special because someone else usually goes for us. And sorry but we are only human so we didn't think to check the (very small) print at the bottom. We ordered two and after seeing it all just piled together randomly on the first one we politely asked for the second one separate. Anyone would have thought we'd sworn and shouted at her she got so defensive. Maybe next time calm down a bit love, it just makes you look useless at your job, which wasn't helped by you taking 20 mins to serve 2 customers and the constant staring out of the door. If you don't want to be there then quit.

Been over 2 years since we used this chippy, won't be so long next time. This is still easily the best little chippy in the area. Busy enough that food is cooked fresh all the time and not left standing. Excellent size portions of good white fish and always plenty of chips. If you are not big eaters try a portion of fish bites (5 pieces) and a portion of chips. An all day special 3 pieces if fish and chips plus peas or curry sauce is plenty for anybody.

Always tell a good takeaway if theirs a cue. The staff are friendly and helpful. Prices are fair. Will deffo be bk

food nice. the hungry man is great with pitta bread salad chips and a can of pop. would recommend. the shop is small so be prepared to wait outside as it gets busy at times

Called as had seen all the positive reviews and someone at work visits every week says it was very good. The fish had funny taste and was a bit greasy did not have time to drain it went straight on the paper fom the fryer. It did not say on menu what type of fish it was. But plenty of chips but won't rush back. Sorry but the score is average or just below.

Great quality fish every time, portions are huge, so probably best to share. Always busy here so you have to queue, but we’ll worth the wait

One of the best takeaways in Barnsley! It’s great value for money as you get big portions of food! Love their sausage and chips and they have the best curry sauce in tarn as other places have it clumpy.

Always a queue, but worth the wait. You can request lightly battered etc when you order. I have to say that the fish is always large and cooked perfectly and the bonus is that the chips are really good as well which is a major let down at most other chippies. Plenty of other things on the menu from fish bites to fish cakes via sausages and pies. For any first time visitors there is a one way system for entering and exiting the car park i.e. you drive through into the Co-op carpark to exit.

We go to cod father quite a few times ,always excellent food and really good for money always full up when you have eaten from here ,there kebabs are to die for excellent value for money and really full up afterwards ,there fish is always gorgeous too pure white with lovely crunchy batter

Come here on a regular basis. I personally think that it is the best chippy in Barnsley, they have cheap prices and are really worth the money! The only downside is you can be queuing a while but I suppose it's because it is popular because it is great food.

19.10 on a Saturday evening. Queueing outside although it is a very small shop. 27 minutes altogether. This is probably OK to some (although it would have been different had it been raining). The problem was from what we could see that not enough food was being cooked for the number of people queueing. I appreciate it is cooked fresh but not worth the wait. They also sell kebabs which some were ordering and took along time to do. Only two serving so this just added to the wait.

When I drive past this place, there is always a queue and that can only be a good thing.We had been busy all day and hadn't had a chance to eat. We thought this was a perfect opportunity to try this place.It was clean yet small and very good value for money. I had a chip butty and a curry sauce for £2.50. Chips were fresh and tasty and the curry sauce had a nice zing to it.Can't fault it and will definitely try it again.

I'll be honest and start by saying they are not the best chips I have tasted but they are very good. We come here for the fish bite special which represents very good value as the chunks of fish are big and usually very tasty. Every now and again you can get a fish bite which is overcooked or has been waiting too long and is dry but this doesn't put us off coming (we call it the fish bite lottery). The opening hours are good too if you work as fish and chip shops in Barnsley all seem to shut at 6pm.

It's not the best chippy in Barnsley but it's pretty good.The portion size is huge, the place is very clean and its popular. The chips were really good and the batter very crispy but the fish looked very square and processed. Still it tasted ok to me.

Called on here on way back from go karting, chip buttie with curry sauce. Portion size was massive i couldnt even manage it and i love my food. My partner got fish buttie. Both were delicious and we would happily return!

We called here for the first time after arriving back from New Orleans USA and was missing a typical Yorkshire Fish & Chips supper. It was in the evening and I found myself in a queue of about 12 waiting customers, BUT I have to say that all the Staff from fryers to servers were so efficient and soon dealt with us all. Now the quality which is most important, its excellent Fish that has the smell and armour of the sea, and portions which are the biggest I have f found, in thickness to length, So So tasty. Chips are excellent also and So plentiful. Here's a little tip We ordered a Fish each and a smaller portion of Chips which are more than adequate for two, and some left over. IF your not a very big Eater you could order one portion of Fish Chips and share them as theirs plenty. I hope the proprieties of Cod Fathers don’t read my report and cut the size down, I don’t think so as this is one of the shops reasons for its popularity.
