The Cod Father in York

This must be the most disgusting food I ever had delivered ,soggy chips ,soggy fish ,terribly oily taste on everything just disgusting if I could have given zero I would have ,terrible . Gravy my fork stood up in just disgusting It’s needs a zero Caveat emptor Buyer beware Wow how awful

Fish way over cooked not even sure it was Cod, chips awful overcooked 3 quarters of my meal ended up in the bin.

We ordered fish and chips and scampi and chips with curry sauce and mushy peas...the meal came piping hot and was delicious!!!highly recommended!!!

placed an order at 20:40 using the app but no one to accept it or answer the phone, why put a 21:00 closing time if you close 20 minutes before?

So dissatisfied with large fish a few nights ago, I reached out through DM as per your recommendation to another reviewer, yet no response! The fish was awful and definitely wasn't Cod and I wish I hadn't bothered, overpriced and tasted awful and ended up In the bin.. Not fresh and tasted like it had suffered freezer burn.

We weren't sure how small the small fish would be so we had two large fish. My wife's fish was overcooked but mine was ok, nothing special. The chips were a little on the overcooked side too. The mozzarella sticks were ok but a bit pricey. The curry sauce was fruity which I liked but my wife didn't. To be clear ... the food wasn't good.

We bought small fish and chips at £8 each. Chips dry and strange texture, no taste. The fish also lacking flavour, and not at all like cod or haddock. Totally did not enjoy any of this meal.

Shocking!! I wrote a glowing review few months ago. Imagine my horror on the recent delivery. Lovely lady driver by the way. Lets get down to the nitty gritty. Hard day at work remembered my last delivery looking forward to fish and chips that mirrored the Codfather. What did I get rock hard batter rock hard chips but I will give you credit the scraps were spot on. Shame on you.

Chips wasn’t bad. Wasn’t to happy the fact when I asked for gravy I could hear it getting made in a cup and turned out to be bisto. I expected proper chip shop gravy.

This chippy is under new management and it was absolutely shocking it cost £24 and the chips were dry and not nice fish was overcooked and put in bin would not recommend using as will be very dissapointed

Ordered tonight for delivery and was lovely. Speedy deliver and very good staff. The lady who delivers and I’ve seen work in the shop is a credit always happy

Overpriced food poor quality one regular fish and chips £10.50 no peas included. Soggy hardly cooked chips fish not great soggy batter. Not a real traditional chippy appears to be an overpriced fast foot trap run by what seems a Turkish guy who has not a clue how to run a proper chippy. Family deal 2 fish 2 sausage meal with cans of pop £38.00! Avoid at all costs not going back disappointed to say the least it seems that most Fish and Chips in York are terrible run by either Chinese or Turks doing kebabs and burgers or pizza as well as Fish and chips. This place sells hot wings and Chicken nuggets overpriced total rubbish.

I really love this chippie. The food is fresh and well cooked. The staff are friendly. It's super easy to order through their app and the food is ready to collect when they say it is. I reckon this is the best fish and chips is Clifton.

Possibly the worst fish and chips I've ever ordered! Ordered 2 large fish and chips. Batter not cooked. Cook tried to argue with me saying he cooked it 35mins ago. I live 500 metres away so he got his times wrong and it doesnt matter how long it had been, it will still be uncooked! No better than the last fella who had it. They didn't even offer to cook me another one, just shows how poor the cook is. Battering fish is very easy as long as you know how to do it. Sadly these guys definitely do not.

Never received the right order since they became ‘oh my cod’. Ordered in the shop, so not on a 3rd party app, for reference. Staff seem to have no clue and read out the order as if it was correct. Got home and it’s wrong (again)

The worst chips I’ve ever eaten. Disgusting, greasy raw. 3 members of staff playing with their phones. Was short changed, they did admit the mistake but how many people don’t want to count it back. Shocking like really, really bad. Tried to call but what a surprise no one answered.

Ordered through the yofoodie app on the website, placed the order for it to then be cancelled because it was closed and then for the money I payed with to be credited onto the yo foodie app. Really need to update your times on Google not happy!

Great fish and chips freshly cooked and good portions

The worst fish and chips ever. Collected mid afternoon, but returned them later. Massive portion of chips but stale and unpalatable. Fish was OK, so I ate that very small portion, but not the batter, again an off taste. When I retuned the food, owner was having non of it, so unfortunately I have to write this. I see from reviews there are many good ones, a lot from Helen and Rebecca, which make me suspicious. Also the quality of the chips was so bad I find it hard to believe that this was a one off. I still have the bad taste in my mouth hours later.

Second time ordered from this establishment, but on this occasion both the potatoes used for the chips (stale) and the fish (no taste and probably from frozen) were not fresh. Small plastic containers for the curry and mushy peas too. Shame for those wanting a tasty fish and chip supper on 3rd September 2022. Needs improvement.

Ordered fish and chips at 6.30pm for delivery. Order was accepted and money taken however food never arrived. Tried to contact but no answer on the phone and then they were shut.

Don’t be put off by the look of the shop, the food was amazing. Fish nice and crispy and not dripping in oil like quite a lot of them are. Travelled here because of the reviews on just eat and they weren’t wrong. Eat fish n chips around👍👍

Just been for our lunch to this little gem. Havent got a bad word to say, the potion sizes are huge for the money, the fish was to die for, battered and cooked to perfection and chips were really tasty, generous with scraps, free curry too! Absolutely amazing chippy and would recommend to anyone

Ordered from them via Deliveroo and they never showed up. Tried calling and and we couldn’t get through. Contacted deliveroo and they tried to contact them too but couldn’t get through so we’ve had to cancel our order and got our money back. Wouldn’t recommend ordering from them.

Hope you're not in a rush for your food if you're having it delivered, told 45 mins it was actually 1 hour 50 mins had to call to find out where my food was. I ordered and paid for a large fish more like a regular size called again to inform they got my order wrong to be told there regular size is their large so they only do small or regular but call it large. Told her that's misleading. I would avoid feeling ripped off and waiting nearly 2 hours for my food not impressed.

Food got paid for and never turned up, phone line didn't even ring kept saying busy, said it would be delivered at 19:30 but no sign of it and no correspondence

Food ordered via just eat. Tried to cancel after it didn’t arrive after two hours and could not contact them as they weren’t answering the phone. Finally something (not my order) arrived after 2 hours and 45minutes which was refused and taken back by the driver. Still haven’t got a refund, apparently they have to authorise it via justeat and they have/will not do it. Disgusting service, AVOID at all costs. Have stolen £30 of my money which I probably won’t see again. Appalling service from Them and justeat.

Ordered via Just Eat, they confirmed my order, I waited an hour, our estimated delivery time passed, then they eventually cancelled my order after waiting over an hour for my food, NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER!

Made an order never recieved. Tried ringing and not an answer...

The fish need some salt for a better taste. But was quite fresh and gold. It was made in front of me so even if I was waiting for few more minutes this was rewarded by the freshness of the food and good taste.

not impressed after reading reviews we were really looking forward to these fish and chips fish was really dry ,chips tasted warmed up and got mushy peas which looked lovely but they were very salty needless to say wont be visiting again

Great fish and chips, really nice portion sizes make the prices very fair. We used to always go to Barton's (now Dhillon's) as they did Haggis (which The Cod Father doesn't, my only complaint about this place) but been very disappointed and The Cod Father is now our favourite, and we recommend it to all our friends and family!
