Probably one of the best meals out we've ever had. The food was delicious and we really appreciated how many vegan options there were. For the quality, great value for money too. Shout out to our server Josh who was so hospitable. The next time we're in Bath, we'll definitely be back - with more people too!

Had a lovely lunch in this comfortable, informal restaurant. The food was well cooked with a lovely use of spices. I need to eat gluten free and there were plenty of options. Nicely away from the hustle bustle of the touristy centre of Bath. Recommend.

We had such a great spread of food and drinks here! There are loads of gluten free and vegetarian options so we didn’t have to miss out on anything - every dish was delicious. The staff are friendly and happy to give advice on spice level / portion control. The vibe of the restaurant is warm and relaxed and on different levels. Thanks for having us and thank you to Nishith also :)

We had a really lovely meal at The Coconut Tree. Our server, Dylan, was knowledgeable and friendly, as were all the staff we spoke to. The ambience was great, and they were brilliant with our small person too. When we arrived it was quiet with more families around, and when we left it was more couples and groups so it really does have something for everyone. And the food!! Such great food, amazing flavours, fantastic vegan/vegetarian offerings. We couldn’t eat enough in our first visit so we will be coming back to try more of the menu! Even the kids menu had loads of great veggie options which is so rare.

we couldn’t decide what we wanted for dinner, and settled on tapas! The coconut tree had amazing vegan options, lots of flavour & all at a decent price. I will say, the single chilli items were still quite spicy, but were worth the slight suffering they caused 🤭

We visited the coconut tree on 09th March 2025. We are Sri Lankans and we were quite excited to try this Sri Lankan restuarant when we were vising Bath. For food we ordered vegetable string hopper kottu and seafood string hopper kottu with a chicken curry. As soon as the food arrived we were quite suprised to see the portion sizes. The main courses looked like starters. No value for money at all. Then we tried the food and we were quite suprised again as to how bad the food was. The two kottus almost tasted like stir fried vegetables as we hardly found any string hoppers in them. The seafood kottu was £15 but there was only one single prawn in it and the rest was all mussels. The chicken curry was £9 and it came with two pieces of chicken. We were quite disappointed with the overall experience. We went to the restuarant with the expectation of having some authentic sri lankan food after a long day but the food we were given had no taste, the portion sizes were quite small and no value for money at all. We paid £45 for the food including the two sprits we had for our drinks. Please avoid this place if you dont want to waste your money.

Ordered a takeaway, £27 for 2 curries - that’s without rice - which would have been an extra £5. Arrived, the portions were so small, they looked like starters. The chicken curry was inedible, so spicy, powdery and oily, which is quite an achievement. The pork curry was cold and tough. We ordered because the photos and reviews looked great, but it’s really not good. Wish we’d have just cooked at home rather than having a ‘treat’. Awful, waste of money.

TLDR—A real showcase of Sri Lankan food and hospitality. Excellent on all accounts! Thank you so much to Lilan and the team, lovely food, and excellent service. I dined during lunchtime with a friend; we ordered the plain hopper, chicken kotthu, devilled prawns, beetroot baduma, pol sambol, paripuu (lentils), chicken curry, goat and potato curry, and a serving of rice. As a Sri Lankan, I can confidently say this food is authentic—bold, flavourful, and not dulled down. It’s the kind of meal I’ll come back for whenever I feel homesick. The menu gives a great look at the cuisine, served in tapas-style portions which makes it excellent to share. For a typical Sri Lankan lunch, I recommend the chicken curry and/or goat curry, lentils, pol sambol, and beetroot baduma with a serving of rice. Really lovely homestyle flavours. For something to go with drinks, definitely go for the roast chicken kotthu (basically like fried rice, but instead of rice, it's finely chopped flaky paratha stir-fried with lots of veggies and egg—a street food mainstay in Sri Lanka and South India) and a serving of the deviled prawns. The hopper was a lovely little "starter," and the accompanying lunu miris had just the right level of spice, while the seeni sambol was beautifully spiced with cinnamon. A great option if you’re after something light yet unique. Every staff member was incredibly attentive and friendly. I don’t usually post reviews, but the exceptional service and food made me feel compelled to share my experience. Thanks again to Lilan and the team for an amazing lunch—I can't wait to come back!

I recently visited a Sri Lankan restaurant, and overall, I found the experience to be okay. While the food wasn't the best I've ever had, the Kottu was definitely worth trying - it was really delicious! The atmosphere of the place could have been warmer though, as we had to keep our jackets on throughout the meal. On a positive note, the cocktails were nice, and there was even a "show" that featured a flaming cocktail, which added an entertaining element to the experience. If you're looking for good Sri Lankan food, this place may not be the best, but it's worth a try for the Kottu and the cocktails with a side of entertainment!

The food was very good and the restaraunt was very good too. The service however, on the night was very poor. We waited a long time to get our food and were told at one point that the order was never placed. I perhaps would have left thinking it was an unfortunate incident that happened just us but the table next to us were waiting a long time to even place an order and had to complain. The waiter that came to apologise was very nice about the situation and gave us a discount for our next meal. Unfortunately we were visiting the area and won't be back so it would have been a nicer compensation if something was taken off the bill oj the night.

The food was very bland so we were quite disappointed. The food was incomparable to other British Sri Lankan restaurants like Hoppers or Kolamba. The service was slow and it was difficult to get the attention of the staff. The portion sizes were quite small and the menu didn’t mention that it was small plates / how many items you should get per person. I was excited to try this place as I love Sri Lankan food but it didn’t live up to expectations.

The Coconut Tree in Bath offers a lovely ambience that creates a warm and welcoming dining experience. It was enjoyable to try their Sri Lankan-inspired dishes, though we found some elements of the food to be less authentic than expected. The hoppers, for example, included beetroot, which added a pink color and a slightly unusual taste. As fans of traditional hoppers, we found this a bit disappointing. Additionally, the sambal didn’t seem as fresh as it could have been, which was another letdown. That said, the rest of the food was decent overall. One highlight of the evening was the cocktails—they were excellent and definitely a big plus for the restaurant. Another standout was the general manager, who was incredibly friendly, kind, and a pleasure to interact with. Some members of the staff seemed very motivated and enthusiastic, but a few others appeared less engaged, which detracted from the overall experience. A happier and more consistent attitude among the staff would certainly improve things. Despite these minor issues, we really enjoyed our time and would recommend visiting The Coconut Tree. We look forward to returning one day!

We had the privilege of dining at Coconut Tree, a Sri Lankan restaurant in Bath, and as someone from Sri Lanka now living in Switzerland, this was a real treat. It’s always exciting to find a place that serves food from my native land, and we were eager to immerse ourselves in the experience. The ambience of the restaurant was vibrant and welcoming, with a lively atmosphere that sets the tone for an enjoyable evening. However, there were a couple of points that left us slightly disappointed. The hoppers, one of Sri Lanka’s signature dishes, were unfortunately not as authentic as we had hoped. Authenticity is key, especially for a dish so iconic, and while we understand adjustments may be made for a Western audience, we feel the essence of Sri Lankan cuisine should be preserved. You can still maintain authenticity while tweaking spice levels for milder palates if needed, rather than creating a fusion that might detract from the original flavors. Another small issue was the timing of service: the food arrived before the drinks, whereas we would have preferred the drinks to come first to fully savor the experience. That said, the restaurant manager went above and beyond to ensure we had a pleasant time. Their attentiveness and commitment to our satisfaction made a big difference, and the staff overall were friendly and professional. The food itself, aside from the hoppers, was undeniably tasty and beautifully presented, which we greatly appreciated. One suggestion I would offer is to incorporate Sri Lankan music into the dining experience rather than reggae. It would add an extra layer of authenticity and help immerse diners in Sri Lankan culture. Overall, Coconut Tree is a great spot to enjoy Sri Lankan food in Bath. The flavors are enjoyable, the staff are excellent, and the ambience is lively. With a little more focus on sticking to the authenticity of Sri Lankan cuisine, this restaurant has the potential to shine even brighter. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Bath who wants to explore the flavors of Sri Lanka!

The service was pretty good and the price/performance ratio was good. The food didn't appeal to my taste. I ordered the roasted black pig and the more classic egg burrito. If the burrito was sour, I wouldn't think it was that delicious, and the black pig was a little too old and spicy. The mouth is heavily seasoned

We visited this place recently (Oct 24) and had the worst dining experience. Amount was very small to the price they are charging. Took nearly 45 mins to serve the food which were standard dishes from their menu. Most of the dishes we ordered (including Hoppers and Eggplant mojo) were cold and stale which gave us a sense that they were prepared a day or more before and came straight out of the fridge. The manager came up with all unconvincing excuses. never again. Stay away from this place.

The food is really incredible here, and very unique. I’m pretty sure anything on the menu will be great, and all dishes are full of flavor and spice. They place was pretty empty on a Monday night although they kept telling people they were holding tables for their reservations. The Black Pork dish was one of the best South Asian dishes I’ve ever had and very unique to experience pork with this flavor profile as it’s not very common on Southern Asian menus. Goat and potatoes, Dahl, fried paneer cheese in sauce, and the thing with meat and shredded roti were all hits. Interestingly the hoppers that they really hype up were the only things I personally wouldn’t get again, but it’s worth a try if you’ve never had it. The food is served as a small plate sharing menu. They say that 3-4 is the suggested amounts of plates per person although I think 3 is more than enough per person IMO. We didn’t get to try the drinks menu but they have some great deals if you buy two drinks of the same category.

Very disappointed. The atmosphere was great, we ordered our dishes where the service was a little clunky. Some of our food turned up which was really nice, 2 dishes were missing. I then politely asked for over an hour where the remaining 2 were and the waiter basically said they weren’t coming and he’d refund them. Usually I wouldn’t care but we were looking forward to them and I don’t understand why the waiter just lied for over an hour where he eventually said there was a mix up, why make us wait? We wouldn’t have cared if we were told straight away. Even when we asked for the bill, it wasn’t brought to us so in the end we just walked out and paid. Such a shame.

Lovely food and drinks and a great atmosphere. Unfortunately was let down by price and service. We'd gone specifically there because of a special offer which the staff seemed very reluctant to honour, doing what the could to get our of it. Service was also incredibly slow, no one checked on us during our meal for s food check or drinks order. In the end they half heartedly honoured the special offer that their website was advertising but the night out was a lot dearer than anticipated, it put quite a dampener on the end of the evening. Food and drinks great so was a real shame the service was such a let down. I only noticed when home that they'd added service charge on which I'm cross I didn't spot as I would have removed that. Edit: I emailed the venue on the night of my visit, and then again 2 weeks ago subsequent to the below request. No response so far...

The food is the reason I'm giving 4 stars - it was very good (and amazing that it was bottomless). But the service and atmosphere did not live up unfortunately. We booked for a bottomless brunch at lunchtime on a Saturday, but it was veryyyy slow. Each order was put in as a "regular" drinks order, meaning your 90 minutes of bottomless was significantly slowed. Despite it being very quiet as well, they really took their time to serve us. The atmosphere was non-existent also (it being so quiet didn't help). This place needs a bit of TLC, then it would definitely be 5 star!

We popped in with some friends for dinner. The food overall was good, quite spicy. The service was chaotic. Food came out in dribs and drabs, the staff seemed generally confused. It may be that it is supposed to give it the edgy street market feel, but it does not. Our friends had almost finished their food before ours arrived. Before the food arrived we asked for some more drinks and were told that we had to relinquish our table in 15 minutes, to which we politely pointed out that we had not yet had hardly any of our food. She went off and when she returned to take the drinks order we had almost finished eating. Two dishes also came cold, so not cooked fresh as you wait, as the menu tells us. There was a waiter who was doing his best and was very good but overall it was mild carnage.

I had a fantastic dinner at The Coconut Tree in Bath. Despite our last-minute visit, Lilan, the manager, provided exceptional service with a friendly touch. The lovely Vielete made an amazing cocktail, and the Sri Lankan food was superb. Highly recommended!

The menu at first seemed a little confusing due to lack of familiarity of the food. But after choosing the ‘can’t decide option’ we were happy with the variety that turned up, as the staff member suggested we would. The food was very tasty and it was nice to try something different. Staff are friendly and welcoming here.

We visited the restaurant through recommendation. It did not disappoint. Our table was in the most poignant position. Very very busy throughout our time here. The staff were vibrant, On point . And so friendly. So much so after our bottomless brunch .. we decided to stay and enjoy some of the coconut trees more premium cocktails. THE FOOD Wow!! The flavours. Not just curry's.. no!! I'm a carnivore. But my waiter recommended some of the vegan options. They were delicious. Cooked to perfection. pumpkin.. lentils... etc... My favourite: Calamari- it was amazing!!! Crisp.. and tender... I'm fussy when it comes to squid. To top it off the ambiance was so relaxing . With a good vibe of music..I will definitely be coming back. Maybe not for the bottomless brunch , it was amazing, That was a taster. The prices are so reasonable . The portion sizes are huge!!! Iv been in hospitality for 30 years. They are doing something right.

We came here the 3rd weekend in July for a hen party brunch. Booked months in advance and booked a specific hen package – which changed between booking and the date of visit – however, the restaurant said they would honour what we had originally booked. When we arrived we were told we would have to sit on separate tables, which wasn’t what we had arranged. After a whole hoo-hah of issues with different tables, we asked to move to the biggest table they had (which would fit us all), and were told that when the family occupying the table had left, we should be able to move and in the meantime to order drinks. Four of the party ordered prosecco, which, upon arrival tasted flat. At this point, everyone was less than impressed and with it being a hen party, we were rather disappointed, especially for the bride to be. It then transpired that actually they had run out of prosecco (which makes me think the drinks could have been watered down as opposed to being flat) – however, we were offered some pink fizzy stuff instead, which luckily everyone was happy with. They moved us to the bigger table and got the drinks going, I think in an attempt to win us over after such a failed first impression – of course this effort was welcomed. The food here is absolutely incredible and the portions are more than fair, I actually cannot recommend the food enough! It turns out that all the FoH staff were on their first few shifts and that the manager had been brought in from another location at very short notice. Though this did show, they did a tremendous job at looking after us and rectifying the disastrous initial situation – I should say, that a few of us were verbal with our dissatisfaction and did sort of put our foot down with our expectations – I think if we hadn’t have done this, our level of service would not have improved to the level which it did, but I can’t say that for sure. Nevertheless, we all ended up having a fabulous time and I would for sure return to The Coconut Tree – thank you for having us and good luck 😊

Tasty but expensive. This might be better value if you eat here with a larger group, but as it stands 9 pounds for a small bowl of shrimp curry (without roti or other condiments) is steap. Having said that the food and cocktails were tasty and the service was fast and very friendly!

My husband and I came here for dinner, looking for a great Gluten Free meal. Let’s just say, after eating everything we ordered, and fully loving it, we now wish this restaurant was in our home town so we can eat here every week! Healthy, delicious, different spice flavors and fully yum! It is that good!

I went here with my husband to have dinner. We had chicken kottu, chicken fried rice, turmeric coconut latte, passion fruit mojito and panna cota for dessert. The food was delicious and the best Sri Lankan food which we ever had in England. You must try their food. We will visit again for sure. The staff was very friendly and gave us the best experience in a Sri Lankan Restaurant. The head chef: Shamil was superb and I don't have words to express his kindness. Shamil, you're amazing! We have tried so many Sri Lankan restaurants in London but The Coconut Tree Restaurant was the best. Highly recommended for everyone. Good atmosphere and great food to taste. Keep it up guys!👌💪

We arrived here without a reservation and that was no problem. It wasn't that busy. We were assigned a table and they brought drawing supplies for my daughter. We were given a menu and only when we asked about portions were we also shown the children's menu. That menu is great with various dishes including vegetables (something that is often forgotten in other restaurants). We chose the option to let them choose the dishes. They recommend 4 per person, but that's too many. Better with 3 per person or 5 for both. The food is well prepared, tasty and varied. The service was also good, but there was one major drawback. At checkout an optional 10% was added to the bill!! service costs added. Without any warning or anything like that. You can expect this in other countries, but in England everyone gets a decent wage. Then charge another 10% WITHOUT ANY QUESTIONS? That's a scam. So enjoy the food and the service, but be sure to check the bill!

Great food, but it was all let down by the AWFUL service. We waited nearly an hour for our food and only received 5/9 dishes, the rest were not made/forgotten about. The person we consulted was extremely unhelpful (man who mainly stayed on the bar) and was very unapologetic and refused to take all the late dishes off of our bill, one we didn’t even receive at all. We might have waited if we had no other booked plans for the day.

"I was excited to try their lamb haleem, but unfortunately, it was nothing like the authentic dish I was expecting. Haleem is a slow-cooked stew made with a combination of wheat, lentils, and meat (usually lamb or chicken), cooked to a creamy, rich consistency. It's known for its spices and depth of flavour. However, what I received was more like a dish with dal and meat pieces rather than the smooth, well-blended texture of traditional haleem. It didn’t have the signature creamy consistency or the complex spice profile that you would typically find in a true haleem. It was a let-down as I had specifically come for that dish. I was hoping for a much more authentic and flavourful experience."
