Love, love, lovr The Coconut Tree for great, flavoursome, authentic Sri Lankan street food, friendly, attentive service and a wonderful atmosphere.

I dined at The Bath Coconut Tree for belated birthday celebrations for my son with my daughter in law and grandaughter. The food and service we received was top notch. I really enjoyed trying Sri Lankan food. I look forward to going back again to try some other dishes.

Evening meal with my partner and two children, one of whom has food allergies. I spoke with our server, Rooney, at the outset about the allergies - nuts, dairy, egg, crustaceans - and he carefully went through the menu with us to identify which dishes my younger son could have, but better still, he then served the dishes that my younger son needed to avoid in different coloured bowls. This was brilliant given that one of the pleasures of a Sri Lankan restaurant is that dishes are shared at the table. It meant my younger son could safely participate in sharing dishes while we could also order dishes containing allergens. Also, Rooney adapted one dish to remove the egg, and all my son’s dishes were cooked in pans that had been specifically cleaned to ensure no allergy contamination . All of the food was delicious and my youngest has found his new favourite restaurant. Finding a place like this that can provide exceptionally interesting, tasty allergy-free food is wonderful. We visited the Coconut Tree for an early dinner. We were warmly greeted and had the menu carefully explain to us by Rodney. Rodney was a great waiter and assisted us by describing some meals we had no knowledge of. The food was really tasty and a real change from other restaurants we usually use. We really enjoyed the Egg Hoppers and the really tasty curry choices. A really enjoyable meal.

Second time of visiting here and my t sons pestered us about going back for the ‘Passion fruit Mojito mocktails’ and Hoppers - which are amazing. The food is amazing, the vine and people are great and reasonably priced. Love it!

Friday night out in Bath with a group of friends, one of whom had the foresight to book a table for eight. The menu was helpfully curated as we chose small plates for sharing. We started with hoppers with some tasty cocktails and sampled almost everything on the menu. Honourable mentions for the Kaju Maluwa (vegan), Jaffna Goat Curry, and Prawn Curry. The Chicken Kottu authenticated the street food vibe.

We made a booking for 7 people for lunch as part of a family celebration. We arrived and were placed at a table for 6 that was already tiny and cramped. We politely pointed out that there were 7 of us (and that’s what we booked for) and we needed a table that could accommodate us. The waitress said she would find something for us and we were asked to wait. After standing around for 5 minutes we were then guided to a table on the mezzanine floor. However the window on this floor was open which made the room very cold and would have resulted in the food getting cold super fast. We asked to close it but the waitress said she would need to find someone to help her. We waited a further 10 minutes. No one came and the staff kept looking up at us as though hoping we would just be quiet. The staff were at this point trying to avoid the issue whilst still looking up at us. We made the best executive family decision that if this is what the seating device was like the rest would be disastrous and so we left. Thankfully abandon Kitchen had room for us and the service was excellent and we had a lovely meal. We will never be going back to Coconut Tree.

Fantastic evening. Rodney and the team were brilliant and added a lot of laughs and smiles to our meal out! The Coconut Tree has such an amazing range of veggie and vegan options (as well as meat options), which made it even better as a mostly vegetarian family. Great atmosphere, relaxed and friendly. Couldn’t recommend it more. A new favourite place in Bath for us!

The restaurant was lovely and we were really excited to eat. We are Sri Lankan and wanted to have some home food in Bath, but were unfortunately disappointed. We ordered the Jaffna Goat Curry, the 5c sambal, paratha, hot battered mushrooms and the vegan kothu. None of our food items were of a good standard; the Jaffna goat curry was too tough and we struggled to eat with our hands as the meat was impossible to separate, the paratha was microwaved (we have the same ones at home) and the mushrooms tasted of bad oil. Most importantly the sambal had a cheesy taste and we quickly realised that something had gone off in it. We told the waitress and we received no apology, just that it was taken off the bill. Overall the food was of poor quality and as Sri Lankans, we were quite ashamed. On the plus side, the drinks were incredible and very reasonably priced. We had the shriki tiki and beach boy cocktails and these were incredible. The waitress did a fire show with the shriki tiki which was really amazing and not what we were expecting given how cheap it was. The atmosphere was also nice and the restaurant was beautiful. It was just such a shame that the food was not up to scratch.

Orders were taken for our drinks, which did not arrive. Then another table was served with drinks and they had sat down after us. The waiter also mentioned that portion sizes were very small so he recommended to order 3 portions per person. Plus he said everyone would have to leave by 9pm as they were not very busy. This was at 8:10pm. Not impressed.

Visited this restaurant as I was visiting Bath for the first time. Came here from the TripAdvisor reviews and the fork promotion. I ordered hopper to start with and got rice, rotti, potatoes, cheakpeas, fried cheese etc. got two bomb cocktails and it was amazing. Food was tasty but felt average. Service and staff were friendly. Overall good experience.

Great flavours. Staff knew the menu which always helped. The pork belly we had was just weird, wouldn’t order it again but we ate it all nonetheless. Rest of the dishes were spot on. Yeah

We really did not enjoy our dinning experience. We did not get the dishes we ordered, after trying to push their can't decided option which we didn't want the waitor still didn't bring us what we ordered. I would also suggest that you check your bill we were overcharged. We were charged for food we didn't get. The only thing me and my partner enjoyed was the calamari.

Amazing food, great vibe, and fantastic service.

Booked a table for two and was greeted warmly at the door with a 'you must be Catherine'. We were talked through the menu and was very happy to learn only one dish contained dairy when I said I had an allergy. The food came quickly and was fresh and hot, and absolutely delicious! I'd never had Sri Lankan food before and found it a little spicy (but I don't do spice well!) But the heat didn't overwhelm the delicious flavours. Especially loved the pickled aubergine and the pork

I ordered Beef brisket on Uber eats and could hardly get 3 tiny pieces of beef slices which i feel not worth to the money spent and cheated.

I had been wanting to visit the Coconut tree for a very long and it was absolutely worth the wait. Loved everything about the food and the hospitality. The staff was very warm and welcoming especially Harshini and Surya. They took time to explain the dishes to someone who has never eaten Sri Lankan food and were very warm and helpful while we were choosing the dishes. I absolutely loved the vegan fried rice and the potatoes made in Sri Lankan style. If you’re a fan of flavourful and spicy food, this is the place to visit. I’m highly recommending it to everyone in the city looking out to try our new restaurants. Surely visiting again.

Those who are not afraid to eat spicy and tasty food, do not mind eating with their hands, should definitely come. It is recommended to book a place in advance at least an hour in advance.

Worst drinks and worst service so far in bath

Had high expectations...unfortunately restaurant fell short ...the hoppers were fairly tasteless and under seasond a gimic really, and all the flavours seemed a bit samey same....undervwhelming bang average there was not one flavour that stood out enough for me to return ...sorry! Our waitress was lovely though really friendly and helpful.

The menu is brilliant. All of the dishes are worth trying at this tapas style Sri Lankan restaurant. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options available clearly marked. Service was lovely, Chatty, helpful, and we never felt rushed. Food quality was a little bit less good than previously experienced at other restaurants, for example their cashew nut curry was in a really thick (gloopy) sauce that wasn't quite up to the usual amazing standard, but still extremely good. Definitely order the cheesy Colombo, not to be missed. The cocktails are lovely here and lots of them come with some sort of theatrics!

Food: Delicious, well portioned and quick to arrive. Service: Attentive and prompt. Some of the staff just didn't smile at all. Atmosphere: Our table was between two staircases, so we felt a little cut off from the rest of the restaurant. Decor is colourful but not overdone and the seating is comfortable.

Wow what an experience! Amazing flavour filled food and great atmosphere. The staff are really helpful and the cocktails are really cool! Ours was set on fire 🍹🔥😆When we are near one of these we will definitely be going back! Highly recommend!

Great tasting food, tonnes of vegan, full of flavour.

The food was amazing and very delicious. 5/5 However, my experience at the restaurant was slightly sour because of the FOH behaviour. When we walked in (around 6.10 pm), we were told that we had 1.5 hours to finish our meal since they were expecting the reserved parties to arrive. Fair enough, we thought as we swiftly ordered our mains and drinks. The restaurant was not busy and there were plenty of empty tables. However, I noticed that the other unreserved walk-ins were not given this deadline and it made me very uncomfortable about being singled out for the time limit. Then after just 45 minutes of being there, the server came and cleared our table while my husband was still finishing his meal. Our drinks came at 6.20ish and the food around 6.40ish. We paid the bill around 7pm. I don't know if it was a bad day or if we looked like stragglers or just because we were not locals but despite the food being delicious, it has really put me off this restaurant where basic hosting etiquettes are not followed.

Louie, Gracie and Inoshan were impeccable, really smiley and friendly in an authentic way, a true rarity in the service industry where fake niceness is commonplace. They answered questions and requests with pleasure and speed and confidence. I hadn't eaten Sri Lankan cuisine before, this restaurant has made it my new favourite, over Thai or Bengal or Indian curries, every dish of the 7 or so that we ordered was incredible. Every single one was stellar, and none the same, all full of a variety and depth of flavours that cannot be put into words. The clue is in the name and coconut is a theme, and it is so welcome as a flavour. At least 10 vegan dishes. Vegans must visit. So refreshing to be catered to in a prime slot on the menu, with so much choice and not just an afterthought as plant based options are in most other restaurants you go to. The chef nailed everything. Gracie's mock Piña Colada was so good. One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Even if you put a gun to my head I couldn't think of many ways to improve it.

I love this place! Came here on a Monday lunchtime and it was completely full (make sure to book ahead). The place was a bit short staffed but the guys there did such an excellent job getting all the orders done and food out with lightening speed. They have an excellent team. There is not much more to say about the food other than it is all absolutely excellent, cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The Coconut sambol, Hoppers and dal are probably my favorites but try as much as you can. I love that they have such a fantastic vegan menu too. Amazing place to eat (and drink)

First experience of Sri Lankan food and it was lovely. We did not have a reservation but they squeezed us in. Waiter explained menu and his recommendations of potatoes mushrooms chickpea prawn curry vegan rice and hoppers were to die for. Will defo try the Cardiff restaurant in the new year.

Great place to eat in Bath. Service (Jake) has been great and made great advices on the food. Speaking of which, everything has been great except for maybe the calamaris (great taste but chewy) and the roti (maybe Sri Lankan roti is different than the Malaysian one I love, has been a little bit drier than I wished). Other than that, great drinks and great vibe/ music! Super good value for money also and great vegetarian options

Came here a few months ago with my friends, and needless to say, the food tasted as good as it looked. I can definitely recommend both the Chicken and the beef brisket kotthu roti, the chilli paneer (cheesy colombo), the black pork curry, the devilled chicken wings as well as the prawn curry.

Me and my husband dropped by on Saturday evening without booking. We were told it was fully booked and up to 25min waiting for a table. We insisted on waiting and it surely was worth it. We had the smallest table 😆 but great service. We had to wait longer for the food, as it got mixed up to another table, but nothing that bothered us. I traveled to Sri Lanka some years ago and know the food-culture. We ordered the "typical" Sri Lanka courses. When the owner saw me eating with my fingers "Sri-Lanka-style" he was amazed! He even brought us one more course straight away, the one I had forgot to order. All in all, one of my best restaurants ever!

I was excited to try this place as I'm a big fan of aromatic food but we were unfortunately disappointed. I generally go for medium dishes and my partner likes mild to medium dishes. Unfortunately we burned our taste buds off from the beginning with an innocent looking salad which actually turned out to have a lot of fresh green chilli in it. I could tell that the goat and pork curries were very flavourful and aromatic but my taste buds were definitely comprised by this point. I think the menu would really benefit from having some sort of spiciness scale. It's good that they've noted which ones are 'Sri Lankan spicy' but when the others are not marked spicy in any way, they look mild. I realise these items said they contained chilli but I was tired and hungry so didn't think too hard when ordering. I wish that when we said it was our first time here, that the waitress would have looked at what we ordered and made a judgement and recommendation, perhaps asking us what our spice tolerance was. It would have really helped. She didn't return to our table at any point to check everything was okay, which was surprising. I would consider trying again, but I think my partner would need persuading.

Had an amazing meal at the Coconut Tree. The food was hot, fresh and tasty. What I didn't manage to eat they boxed up and I had the next day. The service was fast and efficient but not intrusive. Would recommend.

Good little chain restaurant. The food is tasty, and the staff is working hard. Cocktails are really good and cool looking. Maybe the only dish i was a bit disappointed with was the fat sister ( pumpkin curry ). The pumpkin could do with being a bit more cooked and cut in smaller pieces. Other than that , i would go back.

One of my FAVOURITE restaurants in bath, truly. The food is absolutely phenomenal. I'd 100% recommend getting the express lunch, which is more than worth the price. The express lunch is only till 4pm, so best to book a reservation if you want to go, but i assure you it'll be one of the best meals you'll ever have. The service is also amazing, a lot of the waiters seem to be super passionate about the food too

I always come here when I have guests visiting for the weekend, an absolute win every time! Last night was no exception. My friend has a dog and we rang ahead to check it was okay to bring her. The team were so friendly and warmly welcomed her with her own water and were so accommodating. The team here are ALWAYS so friendly, and the food never fails to deliver! So tasty and portions surprise you - very easy to over order. The bill never hurts our pocket either. The best Sri Lankans tapas style grub around. Cannot more highly recommend.

We had the lunch deal which gave us a chance to try several items, all were delicious. We also had a coconut latte which I enjoyed. The server was helpful and prompt. Toilets were clean. Only downside is it is card only payment. Would eat there again as it was great

My partner and I really, really enjoyed the food at this restaurant! So delicious and really different flavours. Don't let them convince you to order 3-4 dishes per person, they are definitely bigger than you think they are! The favourites were battered mushrooms, and the cashew dish (sounds weird to have a plate of cashews, but it was very good). The chickpeas were good as well, but it was a massive plate of them! Drinks were also very tasty and reasonably priced!

It was just most exquisite meal, each dish just bursting with flavour. You don’t need loads of dishes, as each was such a delight in itself. Service was super, with server making suggestions. If you like spicy food, you’ll be blown away by the chilli squid!

Nice pub, staff are friendly and welcoming. All the food was nice and tasty and the spices were mixed in well. The hoppers are a particular favourite. Prices are reasonable.

Disappointed with the experience, wouldn't go again unfortunately. Fair enough we were early doors due to having an experience planned afterwards, so we got there at 17.30 which left us plenty of time to enjoy what we thought would be an evening of delicious food and fun cocktails. The place was empty on arrival and we had booked online the outdoor seating option only to be told there was no outdoor seating at all, so we and the staff were collectively baffled as to why that was an option on the website. We did notice there was mezzanine seating that looked nice, but before we had a chance to ask about it, one of the staff said it was "not available" even though half hour later we noticed people being seated up there. I'm not sure what the issue was. After an underwhelming introduction we had to ask to order drinks after about 10 minutes parched. We opted for the more expensive cocktails that were "any two for £X" and also mocktails for me as designated driver ("two of the same for £X). We wanted two different cocktails from the top shelf category but were informed they needed to be the same to get the offer, even though it's blatantly worded differently on the menu. We let it go though, as we were thirsty by this point and it wasn't worth arguing about. The table water came quickly and was well presented having been pre-prepared in the fridges. There was no offer of the cocktails being made and the bar staff didn't appear to have been notified of our order, so after about 20 minutes we chased our order up with our server and it was only at this point that he asked the bartender to prepare the drinks. Annoyingly, only the mocktails turned up and by this time we were fed up and didn't even bother chasing the cocktails (we decided to keep the money). The food arrived about half hour after we put the order in. I was impressed with the flavours, however some dishes were already getting cold by the time they were brought out to us. I'd recommend the chicken on-the-bone curry if you like your food spicy. The devilled wings were what we expected to be spicy, but we were disappointed with these - the sauce itself had a kick to it, but there was very little of it and the wings themselves were plain. I did enjoy the hopper and the waiter was helpful with recommendations on what to eat and how best to enjoy it, as he was aware we hadn't eaten there before. After a number of disappointments we weren't really enjoying ourselves to be honest and found the atmosphere flat even when the restaurant started to get busier, so we decided to finish our evening elsewhere and asked for the bill. We'd been charged for four mocktails, which was neither what we were served or what we had ordered, so I'm not sure how that happened. It was quickly corrected, but it just about rounded off a poor experience. Next time we visit Bath we'll definitely swerve this one. Not worth the money - one star for the flavours and one for our polite waiter, but would not recommend.

Had an absolutely lovely meal here as a couple, for our first experience of Sri Lankan cuisine. Although there was a little confusion with our order, things were rectified and sorted very quickly. We thoroughly enjoyed the food, thought it was excellent value for money, and even brought home our leftovers!

I thought I was visiting bath, but I found myself in Sri Lanka! This place has got great vibes and incredible food! I highly recommend the goat curry and the cashew curry is so delicious! Every single sentence ends with an exclamation mark and that tells you all you need to know about how I found this restaurant!

Absolutely loved our meal. We went on a Friday and had made reservations, but it wasn't crowded. Service was really friendly-our waiter explained the best way to order and how many plates each person normally has (they are great for sharing). My daughter and I got the egg hopper to start and they were delicious. A little spicy, but I thought it was perfect. We also had prawn fried rice, Cheesy Colombo, coconut sambol, hot butter calamari, Beef brisket Kotthu, and Rotti. For four of us this was plenty and we were all happily satiated. I thought the pricing was reasonable. I can't wait to go back again!

Came here on the weekend with a large group of friends and I couldn't recommend it more. The food was stunning, so tasty and completely different to anything I've tried before. So many vegan and gluten free options made everyone feel included which was so nice. There are so many dishes I would recommend, the mushrooms and the cheese cubes were particularly delicious. The staff were so kind and friendly, even offering to hop up on a bench to take a group photo of us. The cocktails and cocktails were brilliant. All really yummy and looked super dramatic! I cannot recommend this place enough and may have to plan another trip to Bath just to come back!

Incredibly good food at the coconut tree. I really enjoyed my dining experience here. The flavours of the food were perfect with the right amount of spice. The waiting staff were really great and looked after us very well, Libby was amazing! The range of dishes are so unique and taste delicious I would totally recommend the coconut tree.

Never had sri lankan food before but I definitely will again. Our waitress was very helpful and friendly, guiding us through the menu. The food itself was delicious. Very very fun cocktails!! Would recommend the one that gets set on fire. Wanted to go back the next day but unfortunately we went too late.

Do NOT order delivery from this restaurant. Thought I would get myself some lunch from them today - took well over an hour to arrive and had exploded on transit. Driver says this is a common occurrence because they don't wrap their food properly.

Amazing! The heaven for pineapple-coconut lovers! The food was creative AND tasty. In this era, it’s always exciting to eat something exotic (for real, not something “tailored” to local taste). Cocktails are cool, in fancy utensils:) Great for chill cocktail afternoons.

Great drinks and atmosphere at a good price

Great food, service and prices! My partner is a borderline carnivore and my parents are vegan and they all love this place, definitely something for everyone!

Nice food and drinks. I had the smoked old-fashioned cocktail, and it was very good. For main the black pork, it was very spicy and dry but I enjoyed it, but maybe not everyone's cup of tea. We were seated downstairs with only 1 other table, I would not recommend being seated here unless there is a big group of you as you are cut off from the rest of the restaurant. The servers were very good, but the young lady who was downstairs for the majority of the time was not interested and never asked if we wanted another drink

Had the express lunch, quick and tasty, staff member was very friendly, enjoyed my meal so much I had to order more to take home with me for dinner. Will be returning again in the future

Great vibe but the food was way too spicy. Inedible for me sadly… and I can handle a Thai green curry but this was on another level! They don’t even advertise it on their menu, as usually in most restaurants they put a chili pepper next to the dish name but there was no indication. I even heard the couple next to us complain about the same thing and they wanted to send it back or swap it but their policy is that they don’t refund you if you don’t like the dish. Just not impressed by the lack of information… won’t be coming again.

I was floating on cloud nine. Terrific! THE COCONUT TREE looks very authentic. The food was delicious. Our drinks (cocktails and wine) were great too. Great selection of food - there is a large vegan selection too. The service very friendly. The visit to THE COCONUT TREE was unforgettable for me personally and the best thing I have ever eaten. Be sure to stop by! Fabulous. : )

Excellent food and amazing staff!

When I say this is some of the best vegan food I've ever eaten!! So many options for vegans, veggies, and meat eaters alike. I love that you can order quite a few small plates so that you can try lots of things without it being too expensive! The cocktail we had was also delicious! Staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive. A must-visit restaurant!!

Fabulous food, excellent service and very friendly and helpful staff. Strongly recommend it

What a wonderful find this restaurant turned out to be. The tapas style food was absolutely amazing, with a great choice of dishes. First class service - Libby was outstanding - so friendly, cheerful and helpful in her advice around the menu. Well worth a visit.

We went to Bath for a day from London and I was extremely excited to try Coconut tree. But much to my excitement I was highly disappointed. We ordered the deveined chicken wings for starters which was not at all spicy in any form. For cocktails we ordered - the raspberry martini , the coconut pineapple rum , the ginger whisky drink. As cute as the presentation looked , All three cocktails felt like they had absolutely no alcohol in them. For mains we got the hoppers , the goat curry , the chicken curry and rice . Firstly the portions of the curries are extremely small. Good to feed one per person . Secondly the chicken curry was so so so spicy that it was unbearable to eat, most of it was left on my plate untouched. There was no mention of it being spicy at all on the menu. How can they serve something with so much spice that even an Indian finds it difficult to eat. Four of us ending up speaking 20 pounds each and that was absolutely not worth it at all.

Killer restaurant. Very friendly. They fit us in without a reservation thankfully. They offered great suggestions. The egg hopper stole the show. Delicious with realty tasty side garnishes. We also loved the rotti, egg fried rice, lentil curry, chicken curry and everything else. The owner stopped by and was happy to chat with us and get to know us. The place felt like family. We'll be back.

Authentic Sri Lankan food! Absolutely brilliant!

Very good and singular food and staff was very polite, the only negative note was the price, maybe a little too expensive!
