Excellent homecooked Sunday lunch, great portion sizes and excellent value. Worth the drive over from South Manchester. Can't understand the bad reviews, I would strongly suggest trying it out and making your own mind up. You won't be disappointed.

Called in after visiting the Market Friday lunch no food being served. Price of Guinness £4.70 up the street at the Egerton £3.70. and the toilets were a disgrace. Having red a previous review from 2023 nothings changed as far as Hygiene

Alcohol landlord and abusive rude mother!. Locks young girl up stara then ther intoxicated then sends his m8s up! I'd you seen hills have eyes this is the local

Seems to have become a bit run down and a bit smelly unfortunately in the last year or so. Cask ales but the pint I had wasn't particularly good and served by a miserable bar man. Seemed to be full of very tipsy punters.

Little atmosphere. Food served at lunchtime only so we didn't try any. Leaky roof meant seating damaged and water dripping into a bucket

had Christmas lunch in there yesterday and it was fantastic. cheers to the chef and all the staff, it was brilliant

Went in December Friday Foodie night ( last night). Early doorsish. Very busy. ......brilliant atmosphere, singing customers, nice staff, nice beer( plastic glasses.....not sure about them). Sport on few TVs. Abiding memory is trying to watch the rugby on TV, and approximately 15 ladies all singing Maria Carey Xmas song, full belt, in same room ! Different.....but will definitely be going back !!

A friend and I went here regularly for a few weeks after we were forced to vacate the Boars Head when they stopped letting in dogs. The bar staff were friendly, albeit somewhat foul-mouthed, and the dogs loved the open fires. But we ultimately stopped going there because the toilets, including the women's, are foul. I was soon on first name terms with every skid marks, yet the landlord insisted they were cleaned thoroughly each morning - and we are early doorsers! Didn't they learn anything from Covid?

Good for a pint not sure about food seems to be getting some good reviews

Visited twice in two days. Quick late night drink and then back for the rugby and lots of beer. Buzzing on the 2nd night. Good beer and fun atmosphere. Friendly staff and punters.

Popped in wirh a bunch of mates for a few pints and catch some of the champions league. Bit off the main drag of Stockport but overall a nice pub. (Food not rated, didn't have anything).

Lovely local pub offering a great selection of drinks.friendly staff and always a good atmosphere.

Was recommended this place by a friend of ours. We noticed that the carpets and seating was filthy but thought we would give the food ago. I ordered lasagne which had no meat just red pepper, my partner had a shepherds pie which was mince and peas with a undercooked piece of puff pastry on top. The toilets weren't clean either.

Brilliant place with great atmosphere and very good food

Been for a Sunday dinner a few times now and food is always amazing. People that ran the pub are nice and friendly always male you feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble for them. Always recommend this place for anyone who askes and under £10 for a dinner with all the trimmings what more can you ask for.

What a place! We have been coming here for years and since Mark and family have taken over it has only got better. We go every week for our Sunday lunch and leave full and needing a lay down. Never had a bad day/ night and would highly recommend this place for food or a night out

Think ots ok for bev the land lady to talk to people who she doesn't like ,absolutely drunk with her chin swinging like she's had 10 escatys tablets ,and tell them to leave for no reason all because she's absolutely pissed as , be a good pub if those pair didn't run it , son is as bad as his mother lots of folk say the same thing , mother and son have bad massive attitude

Have visited this place several times for the great offers, but today we chose to have what we fancied; low slow skillet of beef, XL mixed grill, also children’s meal with sides. We have never been dissatisfied and today hubbys words were fabulous and granddaughters was amazing. I thought all in all a fantastic meal out and prices are great. Staff are all very polite and friendly. If you want to visit to dine you’ll need to book early as this place fills up with customers very quickly. They deserve 5 stars from us. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Visited on Sunday 28th for the roast dinner and was blown away by the quality of the cooking. The Pork was perfectly done and there was a good selection of vegetables as part of a decent portion. My partner also really enjoyed her beef. Would definitely eat here again when in Stockport town centre and look forward to trying the chef's other meals. Highly recommend!

Well, what a little hidden gem! Staff amazing, food amazing! All home cooked. Don’t know anywhere close by that you can get a Sunday dinner with honey parsnips, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, peas, mash whipped up like a cloud, home done roasties, Yorkshire pud and real gravy all with a choice of 3 meats, I had a bit of everything and all for £8-95!! Nothing is too much for them, and it even has a beer garden. If you’re ever in Stockport, give it a try!! I’m there this Saturday as they have an artist on the last Saturday of every month so the dancing shoes are being dusted off for a well needed boogie!

Never go in this pub again, first and last. All the staff were high as a kite and they had a young lad who doesn't work there serving (he told me) and he and the staff were very rude to our party. Warning Avoid ⚠️

The staff are lovely, welcoming, and friendly Mark, Jack, Bev and T are fantastic hosts. It's brilliantly stocked for all tastes, and there's also cheeky snacks for furry friends. Pop in, you won't be disappointed. Can't wait to be back

Such a super place, lovely warm welcome from Mark, Bev and Jack. Mark has the best sense of humour and runs an excellent establishment. Bev makes the night with her dancing and Jack knows exactly what your order is from the first drink you order. He's lovely and friendly. Can't wait to go back..

A lovely pub great staff a must to visit

Love this place. So thoroughly welcoming and amazing. I had Sunday lunch today, a great meal with freshly prepared vegetables, lovely crispy roast potatoes & Yorkshire pudding. A good choice of meats too (if not veggie), lashings of gravy. Definitely coming back, well done all 👏

No lock on the men's toilet door. No toilet roll in the holder. Staff ask to use the same beer glass again rather than a fresh one. Big TV for football. Average at best.

Superb pub in the historic market place. Called in yesterday after shopping (not for the first time)!! Made to feel extremely welcome, as always by the fab hosts, Mark, Wayne and Bev. Food absolutely amazing and cooked to order. I highly recommend this pub to any body wanting good quality home cooked food with a proper pub atmosphere. Sunday roast also highly recommended. 11 out of 10. Well done guys and thanks

Wonderful old fashioned hospitality, gorgeous food and football on the telly, what more could you ask for ? Hosts (and Mum!) really, really friendly and welcoming...we will be back :)

Called in with my Nephew for lunch. I was totally blown away by the food. The cottage pie was plentiful and tasty, the vegetables were fresh NOT frozen and cooked to perfection and now for the absolute stat of the show.....THE CHIPS! I have not tasted chips like that in a long time, proper home cooked chips, absolutely delicious. Served by friendly staff in a warm welcoming environment. Going to try the Sunday lunch next week....watch this space.

Ric says this pub has had a few ups and downs. Used to have a big real ale selection but not enough turnover to keep it going. Only Ossett White Rat 4% Pale Ale today which was fine. Jorvic not so keen on his Madri. Only OK. Very quiet on a cold Wednesday lunch in Feb. Good location on the edge of the market place. Needs a bit of investment.

Brilliant atmosphere for the Manchester Derby (football)

Lovely little pub / Inn. Only in this establishment for a shirt while but felt Very welcome. Staff are Very Friendly as we're the regulars. Not the Biggest of pubs but a good size.

What an absolutely lovely place. Not only was the actual pub lovely, cosy and welcoming, but the managers were absolutely lovely too. Made my friend a proper cuppa and brought my phone out to me too when I left it behind. I don't go out in Stockport much, but my friend and I will definitely be coming back.

Since it has changed hands it is not as clean and the beer is not as good i had a pint of John smiths and a glass of orange juice the price was over the top considering the beer was not up to par the price £6.60 we will not be going back in 2 out of 10

Went over Stockport Pride and watched the lady's England final the

Obnoxious bar staff, had to return a flat pint to the old woman behind the bar and got spoken to like I was dirt, she argued that it wasn’t flat and she knew because she’s “worked in pubs for 50 years”. So she really should have learnt some manners by now shouldn’t she.

Called for the first time in a couple of years. Bit quiet on a Thursday evening but the welcome was warm and the beer was cold. Lovely of pint or two of White Rat, well kept and well priced @ £3.40 a go. Would recommend and will return. Cheers!

Called in on the Mild Challenge for a drink. Beers appeared to be well kept and although they'd run out of Camra stickers, they were happy enough to fill our cards in,despite being busy.

This is my local, the landlord is a great bloke and a good mate of mine, the locals are varied in age and its definitely worth a stop by for a few scoops or many. Come fill yer boots at the cooked hat where we nod we chat and have a good laugh. I tip my hat to you sir have a great day, night and a hungover tomorrow.

Disappointed. This pub should be buzzing particularly on Saturday match day & near xmas . Only had 2 bottles of zero alcohol beer in stock & it looks like it's struggling. Such a shame ! Unfortunately it's a sign of the times .

Fantastic food for the money, the challenges are difficult to complete but an amazing amount of food for the money paid. There is also a wide range of drinks and a phenomenal amount of GIN!!!

We decided to visit here for a family meal on Easter Monday, unfortunately it was a bad decision. The waiting staff are lovely and have nothing at all to do with the appalling quality of tripe served this evening. We ordered 2 steaks, hunters chicken, all american burger and a childs double cheese burger. Extra mushrooms and onion rings. The mushrooms looked like baked dogs mess!! Disgusting, heavy with fat! Firstly we waited for over an hour for the food to reach the table..... my daughters came significantly later. We asked for extra peppercorn sauce as the piddly amount wasnt enough..... for it to arrive promptly but cold and congealed. Once poured on the steak and realising it wasn’t heated it ruined the dinner. My daughters double burger was undercooked stuck together and inedible, i wouldn't serve such trash to my dogs let alone a child. Hunters chicken was dry and also inedible, the only good thing served was the chips, i mean how hard is it to cook chips afterall! The manageress had too many reason as to why the chef doesn’t give two hoots what they send out which frankly is also unacceptable, (long hours and new chefs!) really?!? a chef with any ounce of standards and pride in their food would NEVER serve any such substandard food!! I WOULD NEVER return. Thanks for nothing! Being told that the chef has worked long hours is also no justifiable reason, that is their job.... they work long hours there is literally no excuse for such appalling standards. SHAMEFUL. DISGRACEFUL. AWFUL.
