No gusto bien y había mucho. El personal era muy agradable y placentera. Así que, en general, estaba bien, pero yo no saldría de la manera de volver.

Went here for a meal last night the steak fajitas were amazing best ive ever had, but unfortunately my partners meal was not so good he had the mixed grill most things on it was good but the beef and the pork ( the expensive bit of the meal was not so good) when I told the waitress she apologised and told me she would let the chef know both items were tasteless as I also tried them. When receiving on bill we kinda hoped that theywould knock a little off bit not . Sucj a shame is my meal was really good my partner even told the waitress we would not be back but didnt seem to bother her .

I had never actually been to eat here before, despite having driven past it many times. However, I was glad to have finally tried it out. We were able to sit in the conservatory, which was very pleasant. The rest of the pub is fine, but a bit dark.We all enjoyed the food - clean plates all round afterwards. We especially enjoyed the haggis parcels, the fish, and the burger with haggis and egg.I liked the idea of having big or small portions, and for most people the 'small' portion would be quite enough. Will be putting it on the list of good places!

Went for a meal but hadn't booked so went in and were warmly welcomed. Place was busy which was a good sign. Menu was well laid out and you got a choice of " big one " or "small one". Once ordered we didn't have long to wait for the meal to come. Freshly cooked and brilliant. Staff were very friendly and even though the kids were exited about the desserts the staff handled it brilliantly with smiling faces and loads of encouragement. Used to be on the main road but a new road has now made it harder to find if you don't know the area. Well worth the visit and if we're in the area again we'll certainly be back. Thank you to all the friendly, efficient staff for a great meal.

We, other half and I hadn't been out since his knee replacement and we decided we'd go to The Cockatoo to celebrate our missed Christmas, New Year and his birthday on his first day back driving, We were served by a lovely waitress (from the Borders, I think), We both had a wee yin Chicken and Vegetable Soup served with lovely French bread and butter followed by a wee yin Fish and Chips and I settled for a Big Yin deep fried Brie and Jelly. No room for dessert. Don't be fooled by "Wee Yin", they certainly aren't WEE.I was shocked to read "Absolutely DISGUSTED", we have never ever had any complaints in all the times we have visited The Cockatoo. One thing that does irritate me a little is that the same big black 4 x 4 is always parked in the closest to the door "disabled" space (no blue badge visible) so....... when it is busy and let's face it a lot of Pensioners go for lunch and there's a lot of infirmities in the elderly it can be quite a walk. There is also a Loyalty type card which gives a generous discount for repeat visits (If you remember to put it in your bag). There is a variety of places to sit - some are dark, some are bright, nice seating areas beside windows. I'm not a fan of the Conservatory, but there is a seating place to suit everyone.I think Wednesdays are going to be our trip to The Cockatoo day. Thanks to Michael for our excellent service on our last visit.

Remember to take a closer look at your food before you eat it!!!!! I visited this "restaurant" with my gran at around lunchtime, first of all I would like to point out that on arrival we were seated in the conservatory - a very tired, dusty area which had an array of broken table lamps set around the windowsills that have quite visibly yellowed and cheap plastic flowers/ plants on the ceiling and also in vases around the room - delightful! We ordered one starter being the haggis parcels (identical to spring rolls), when they arrived it was clear by looking at them that they had not been just cooked which was also clear when they were cut open to also see that one layer of the pastry on the inside was not cooked too. This dish was also served cold and was very unpleasant therefore we insisted that it was taken back and we just had our mains. Although the time we waited for our mains was reasonably quick - a roast chicken meal and the fish and chips - when it arrived I noticed a fly in the turnip on my plate, this not being a big concern as I wasn't going to eat it I placed that to the side. Further looking around my plate I noticed that that was not the only one but infact there were enough flys served in my food that it could have been mistaken for the cast of "A Bugs Life" having a reunion - all jokes aside there were over a total of 6 larger flys found on my plate alone. Without hesitation one of he waitresses were informed and asked to take both meals back to the kitchen and off our bill, this blonde short haired waitress with glasses that was first informed had a look of disgust on her face at the fact I had approached her and asked her to do such a thing! She then stormed to our table, grabbed both plates without a word and walked back to the kitchen. Whilst walking out of this "restaurant" we overheard remarks being discussed about us from this said waitress and the questionable chef, this was then carried on with another waitress when she left the kitchen within earshot!!! All in all the service was awful and I have seen more personality in a potato than in either one of the waitresses, the venue itself was dull and very dark and the food is clearly uneatable!!!! Never again, avoid at all costs!!!!

Passed many many times decided to go last night for a birthday meal. Looks lovely on the outside but very dark and dingy on the inside like an old mans pub. Place was empty - 2 other families in for meals and that was it!! Drinks order was taken quickly, staff were friendly enough but food was a bit of a disappointment, all served on wooden chopping boards. Ordered the mixed grill, a speciallity of the Cockatoo apparently. 4 oz steak was full of fat and gristle, 4 oz gammon steak, as stated on the menu, was in fact a pork chop. The steak had a peculiar smell and an even straanger taste, needless to say the steak did not get eaten. Although it was snowing outside the place had a very chilly feel to it, and we were seated at the window which made it worse!! Ladies being ladies had to use the loo, cubicles were difficult to turn around in and the hot water was nowhere near hot even after running for a few minutes. One teenage daughter up all night vomiting after eating here. Disappointing end to an otherwise fantastic birthday for me. Will not be back.

Table booked in the conservatory for 6 people. All had starters all plates cleared and there were no complaints with the main courses either. Menu has many choices with the option of smaller portions which is a great bonus for people like me who prefer to finish their dinner rather than leave too much on the plate. Main portions are very good, hot and all were served at the same time. Staff were very courteous and helpful. Prices are very reasonable. This is not our first visit was there in August (15 people) and again there were no complaints all our friends agreed food/service was really good. The place was freezing. but against our better judgement we decided to stay. our waitress was great she got us our drinks fast and we ordered the cauliflower soup this was lovely, We then waited around ten minutes for our main meal the kids had burgers with chips and beans. the burgers clearly cheap meat and had a garlic taste and the beans 100% not heinz. I had the steak pie with potatoes and veg apart from the gravy it was rotten the veg was all hard. my partner ordered the curry it came out cold and the rice was all stuck together in a horrible clump we had to complain about my partners meal and they knocked that of the bill at the end. all in all it used to be a really good busy place and now it is just dead with cheap frozen microwaved food such a shame.

Visited with friends family for birthday and as having a dairy allergy they phoned ahead to check they could cater for me, said "yes, just say when visit". I informed staff of my allergy, anafalaxix, not intolerance or choice, so I could only eat one starter as everything pre made. Ordered piri piri chicken from grill as safe option for main, came with garlic butter nann, no form of apology just told "only speciality bread does not contain dairy" by second waitress after first said when asked does it have butter as just the smell was making me feel ill, informed me "no, it's just garlic nann"! Offered other food to be put on a different plate! Informed staff this was not safe, as they were walking away without listening, however someone else said they would cook fresh rice, but it coming back in around 3mins, it was clearly not safe for me to eat. Ordered "black coffee, with amaretto" as no deserts for me, and given full whipped cream topping! When new coffee brought out, slammed on table with a side of milk choc chip cookie! On being asked when leaving if everything was ok, and I suggested politely if staff are informed that someone has an allergy, they should maybe be slightly more careful (I held back on considerate), I was abruptly told they were changing the menu and some staff were new, and she would not have brought me a cream coffee if I had asked her (she had not taken desert orders), I pointed out that she had served me the cookie to which she just shrugged her shoulders and said she would pass comments onto chef about adding gluten free onto new menu??? Not safe to eat and not polite staff.

This is one of my favourite restaurants when I visit Edinburgh, recent road works have made access slightly difficult, but it well worth the effort. The staff are great, the young waitress has the longest false eye lashes I have ever seen, worth going to see them, the no children in the conservatory is a bonus, I wish a few more restaurants would adopt a similar policy, who wants squealing rampaging children when you are out for a great meal in great surroundings. At 69 years old, I am still slightly disappointed not getting a lollipop when I polish off my steak pie, but the girls usually come up with an acceptable substitute. Keep up the good work girls!.

Waitresses complained in front of us about "not knowing where their heads were" & "all my tables running into one its so busy"...hate to see it busy as when we were there it was half capacity if your lucky! Three of us had such a disappointing meal in this restaurant. Food was tired and waiting staff even more lethargic. The little computer ordering devices they carried were necessary because the glazed look of the staff were anything but encouraging. When my wife asked for salad instead of vegetables the little computer couldn't take the order and the kitchen had to be consulted. After ordering a drink for my wife I decided to add another for myself. My wife's drink arrived after about ten minutes, and when I asked the waitress if she'd forgotten my drink, the reply was that it was a different order and it wouldn't be long. We were the only people in the whole restaurant. My drink eventually arrived as we were putting our coats on. Tired salad, and staff in a coma. You can do a lot better than this place believe me.

Only comment this time is about the 'mince and tatties' as advertised on the menu. This came with roast pots which one of our group wasn't able to eat and asked if this could be changed to mash. We were told no. The roast pots were the only option. Now I'm Scottish and mince and tatties should be either mashed or boiled !

We were sat next to the lovely well lit conservatory which we were not allowed in with our sleeping baby as it was a child free bit. So we were sat a table for 6 (only 4 + baby in buggy there) in a dark corner. So all they people who want to eat in a child free place has to pass the family's in the dark dingy bit to dine. Think it would be better the other way round of brighten up the place. I feel we were penalised cause we had a wee one with us. The food and service could not be faulted. Not too sure about returning with my family again tho.

All the members of staff we came into contact with we're friendly, helpful and welcoming. Their enthusiasm certainly added to our enjoyment. The food was amazing, the portions being more than generous and everything being incredibly tasty. Lots of effort had gone into the presentation of the food as well. The steaks were cooked to perfection, the burgers mouth wateringly delicious, and the korma that I had was quite easily one of the best I have ever had. Surprisingly so as its not an Indian restaurant. All in all, a fantastic evening was had, made more so by the wonderful staff and lovely food. I sort of knew it would be a mistake to go somewhere touristy but now I know I definitely won't be back. There are nicer places on Cockburn Street, never mind the rest of the Old Town.

Went with family to have a nice breakfast but were all utterly disappointed. Very small selection of breakfast items and all potions were far too small. I ordered full Scottish breakfast but left feeling hungry after spending over £1, sausages both meat and vegan were very nasty in their taste and all items were below average for an premium price - never again.

We ate here before the Lion King with the VIP Ambassador Lounge deal and it was all very good . I had read some of the negative reviews and was a bit wary after booking but it was a really nice experience. The food was fine , we had chicken skewers and soup and burgers and there was no complaints , but the service was excellent . The girls who served us were efficient and very friendly. They took us up to the lounge and again we had friendly service . All made for a great night , well done
