There is plenty of atmosphere, unfortunately it took an age to get served because the bar staff were either new at the job or they were having problems with the tills. Several people were served drinks that weren't ordered. It was busy, but from what I could judge, it was down to the bar staff. The pub itself is ideally located, quirky, with seating both inside and out and a very good choice of drinks. The coffee was undrinkable. Because of the slowness of service and waiting time for food, we decided not to eat.

Non c’è praticamente servizio al tavolo infatti per ordinare devi andare al bancone. Solo dopo aver pagato ci hanno informato che avremmo dovuto aspettare 40 minuti per l’ordinazione. Totale pagato 42 sterline

Service upstairs was just a bit miserable & they don't do (in my opinion) some quite popular drinks which are available in other pubs. It may say £9 something for a double vodka in the menu, but I was charged over £11 for a very weak tasting vodka soda. Wouldn't be back.

We were here to watch a comedian in the upstairs rooms, but because we were early, we sat outside to people watch. Unusually we arrived just as someone was leaving and we managed to get their table. This is a very popular and busy pub. After our friends arrived, we went inside to eat, big cudo to the server who managed to get us a table for eight, really impressive customer service considering how busy the place was. We all went up to the bar to order our food, which came out soon after. Absolutely no complaints about any of it, delicious. Then, after dinner, we went upstairs to another bar/lounge to wait for the comedian. A curtain was drawn back to reveal another room set up with chairs and a sound system. Great show. The toilets were clean and tidy, there are toilets downstairs and also upstairs just before you go into the bar area. The servers were polite, prompt, and well presented. Only one small niggle when paying by your card do read the screen as it has a couple of questions before putting in your pin. As I had forgotten my glasses, I couldn't quite make it out and think I "donated" an extra £5 on one of my rounds. I know it's my fault for forgetting my glasses, but would it be possible to get them in a larger font for us daftys. Highly recommend you visit this establishment down the Grass Market.

First of all, the place is dirty. Confusing, order at the bar indoors, then they bring it to your table which supposedly has a number (several do not). So, essentially no service. Food mediocre at best. I had a side order of Mac and cheese-chewy and flavorless and a side salad. The salad was brown and they only offer one type of dressing. I asked for a newer salad with green lettuce and they gave me a new one which was only partly brown. Also, wanted to order an Old-Fashioned and they told me they were only allowed to make the alcohol drinks that are on their menu—no deviations. Stay away from the Bee Hive; there are better places to go.

I'm a local, therefore I have been to the Grassmarket area many times. However, never again will I be in the beehive until they make efforts to have the busker from outside their premises removed! Seriously, he's bad! I mean really bad! Can't sing a note! I'm a music lover, frequented many a festival but this is just a drunken noise, the drunker he gets, the worse he sounds ( if that's even possible). We ate our food, had one drink and moved to the other end of the Grassmarket where our ears weren't being assaulted! I am not exaggerating people, it's bad! I have know Idea how the staff ( who are lovely by the way) cope doing a full shift in the place never mind the customers! Jeezo!

My wife, two children (teen, pre-teen), and I stopped in for dinner on a recent visit to Edinburgh. It is in the historic Old Town neighborhood of Grassmarket, just down one slope off the Royal Mile near iconic Victoria Street. After an intense day of site-seeing all around the city, we landed at The Beehive for dinner just after an afternoon driving rain and also having just visited Greyfriar's Kirk/Cemetery and the National Museum of Scotland. Initially trying for The White Hart Inn a few doors down (too crowded for us), we opted instead for The Beehive. It totally suited what we were looking for AND what we needed. At first rebuffed from eating downstairs by the main bar - guessing underage kids are verboten here in Scottish pubs too near the bar - the friendly staff took us to the upstairs dining area (curiously, however, ALSO with a bar). But it was wonderful! A large room with ample space, we were seated at a table with some cozy and large easy chairs to sink into. We hunkered down and rested after being pretty tired and damp from the day's exploring. I ordered a pint of cask-conditioned dark ale and a dram of Bowmore to settle in with before our meal arrived: fish and chips for me, while the missus and kids all ordered the grilled cheese (white cheddar, I believe) plus tasty sides, and split an order of halloumi fries. It all was very good and hit the spot. Friendly waitstaff, great decor housed in a very old building, it was among our favorite dining experiences in Edinburgh. We would return!

The Beehive Inn in Edinburgh is history, history and more history. It is a typical pub vibe with wood everywhere. It sits in the shadows of the Edinburgh Castle with a legacy of 400 years. A counter service spot, this was a quick dinner. During my visit, I had the pleasure of sampling a few of their notable dishes. Fried Halloumi I loved the spice of the red chilli. The halloumi was both crispy and light. Hake & Romesco Ragout The grilled hake fillet served with a romesco white bean ragout, salsa verde, and carrot crisps surprised me. Contrary to my initial expectation of a stew, the dish had a beautifully cooked fillet of fish laid over a rich but light ragout. The salsa verde added a zesty pesto type touch and the carrot crisps provided a special crunch. Fish & Chips A visit to Scotland wouldn't be complete without chowing some Fish & Chips, and The Beehive Inn’s version did not disappoint. The hand-battered Atlantic haddock was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Although I’m not a pub girl, The Beehive Inn proved to be a treasure trove of classics.

Went with family to have a nice breakfast but were all utterly disappointed. Very small selection of breakfast items and all potions were far too small. I almost never leave reviews, but I felt I had to because I felt so ripped off here. I'm a local and had time to kill before work so I popped in for lunch. The staff were friendly and the service was quick, but I got the smallest piece of avocado toast I've ever seen for a tenner. I'm still hungry. I sort of knew it would be a mistake to go somewhere touristy but now I know I definitely won't be back. There are nicer places on Cockburn Street, never mind the rest of the Old Town.
