We really liked it, the service was spot on and the food was great. The only complaint was the volume of the TV. Perhaps we are just getting old! The menu was quite small, but they also had two specials on offer on top of the standard menu. All food, I believe, is home cooked, so the smaller menu is completely forgiven on that score. One of us had the burger and the other the chilli. Both meals were excellent and really nicely presented. We also shared a starter, which was equally as good as the mains. All the staff were really good and the pub had a lovely atmosphere, really traditional which we love. The rugby was on the television in the area where we were seated, and there was just one person watching it. On full blast, it was difficult to have a conversation at all, which did slightly spoil the occasion, we did mention it to the man as he had the remote, but he was obviously a rugby fan, having said that we did enjoy it and would like to return. Thank you.

The menu looked alright, but several options were "off." That's ok - it happens. But what did arrive was just horrible. The landlord was rude when I tried to politely talk about the cold rubbery "meat." A real shame, because a really characterful pub with loads of potential. Shame about the rude landlord who couldn't care less.

I visited this pub on 07/03/22 at 12 midday, and would avoid visiting again. The landlord is unwelcoming and rude, indeed whilst seated I witnessed his rudeness directed at four elderly guests who got up and left. He also extended this to another table of four guests who returned their food. I felt sorry for the bar staff who were pleasant and friendly despite working for this unfortunate man.

We came here for lunch, arrived just after a party of walkers (at least a dozen of them). The pub felt lovely, low ceilinged, warm and old-fashioned. Unfortunately the walkers were in the middle of ordering drinks, and then the landlord insisted on taking their food orders too, which were mostly made, and paid for, one by one. The walkers were more than happy for me, and another customer, to order a drink in between their orders, but the landlord wouldn't have it. Insisted on taking all their drinks orders and then all their food orders. So, having waited 20 minutes or so (with our boots removed, as requested), we left and got lunch somewhere else. A real shame as last time we went to this pub (about 15 years ago) we had a baby with us, and were not made to feel welcome at all. I'm really disappointed that despite, I think, several changes of personnel over the 15 years, we had a similarly unwelcoming experience.

We love this pub and the food here is great. Amazingly low prices (compared to others in the Sevenoaks area) and a proper ‘pub food’ menu, Everything we’ve tried on the menu has been lovely- simple, no fuss, quality food. So nice to have a pub that’s not gone all fancy (and expensive) and serves tasty food and good beer. What more could you ask for after a long walk?

We have been to this pub twice now as we put down the first time to a busy day however the owner and the staff are the most unfriendly people. The first visit my 90 year old grandparents were put on two different tables before we were shown to our seats due to the regulars requesting a specific table. The food took ages and was handed to us cold and with no smiles. All arrived at different times with no apologies and the gravy was cold. We assumed it was just a busy day… On the second visit which was a Sunday in august and completely dead in the pub apart from a few locals. I asked if the vegan roast had nuts in it, which was an ordeal as it involved the staff having to go back and forth. The only alternative I was offered was to pay for the meat roast without any meat which was £3 more expensive than the vegan roast. I questioned this to be told by the rude owner “my prices are set….” The locals then all started gossiping amongst themselves. They all then started to come outside and talk about the crazy situation of a vegetarian with a nut allergy questioning the cost of the roast and to check if the owner was okay. The roast was terrible. We will never be coming back. He was also watering his plants with a hosepipe in the midday sunshine despite the fact there’s a hose pipe ban. Clearly rules and manners do not apply to him.

Today we went to this pub after being out for the day as a family, we came across the venue on our journey home and thought that being a Greene king pub which we have frequented on many occasions in the past that we would be welcome to have a drink here. How wrong we were, we parked in the car park and walked round to the front of the pub we could hear conversation and laughter as we got near and opened the door. As I entered the pub there was 2 tables of people having drinks and a bar man in a purple t shirt behind the bar. As I walked in with my niece (2 years old) the conversation and laughter went silent. Which is fine but did create a bit of an atmosphere but had they then just carried on with their own conversations this would have dissolved the atmosphere but no they just stayed silent with the odd bit of awkward laughter. I know that the way the people drinking in the pub behave is not the fault of the owners/staff but we didn’t even get acknowledged by the bar man who was also joining in the conversation with the others. My niece chose a seat to sit on and my mum and sister came in with my daughter in her pram. My mum put the pram in what seemed to us to be a sensible place only to be told that someone had gone through a door behind the pram and would knock the pram when they came back, my mum said oh I didn’t realise it was a door to which a sarcastic comment was made about the fact it has a door handle doesn’t it - no all doors with handles are used frequently or are passage ways it could have been a cupboard for all we knew. By this point I had already said to my sister I didn’t feel welcome in there. And I could tell that my mum didn’t either. Then someone else suggested (I know it was a joke but still wasn’t in a kind joking manner) just leave the baby in the car park. Then I said to my family let’s go somewhere else - so we began leaving and on our way out another sarcastic comment made “bye then”. Not once were we welcomed, not once did anyone say hello, or come in, what can we get you - nothing - not one bit of friendly, kindness or helpfulness from the people using the pub or the staff in it. And it was obvious that the whole group of people including the bar man had made us uncomfortable but no one tried to rectify this in anyway - this is in my opinion not the way to run a pub - I have been in many pubs but would never go back to this one as I have never once been made to feel so unwelcome until today. Luckily we left and went to another pub in which we got welcomed and good customer service - we aren’t expecting a fanfare on our arrival but just a smile and a hello isn’t too much to ask for

Myself and my two daughters and two babies 6mths and 2yr were passing and thought we would stop for a drink. Before we went in we could hear chatting and laughing, upon entering there was just silence, 4 people sitting at a table just looked at us, a sarcastic comment was made about where I placed the pushchair, there was intimidating laughter, we hadn’t even sat down but felt so unwelcome decided to leave, as we went through the door a voice said ‘bye then’. So unnecessary from grown adults and with people like that thinking that because you are not local you don’t belong it’s no wonder the place was empty, and wouldn’t be a surprised if it was to close unless it’s used by just locals.

We realise that the new regulatiions are hard to deal with and staff are expensive, especially when they've been closed for 4 months, but if you can't cope don't offer food! Landlord tried his best with outside BBQ and (presumably) the landlady was stretched with giving out the key to unlock the indoor loo, booking people in and taking payment. We visited this pub for the first time last week for a meal with friends before visiting Emmetts Garden nearby. When we arrived we were greeted warmly by the bar lady as we looked around the room for our friends. They brought our drinks order to the table and offered to start a tab for us. We only had room for main courses but the Fish Pie (which three of us chose) was the best I've ever had - really tasty with a high per centage of fish and seafood and perfectly cooked vegetables. Our other friend had a jacket potato and had no problem in changing the order from the menu option (of baked beans and cheese) to beans only. She asked for a side salad: when her meal arrived they asked if she had enough salad and offered to increase the quantity if she wanted more but she already had a plenty. The beer was good too. When we left, the bar lady gave us directions to Emmetts. It was nice to see that the pub had so many 'regulars' and most of the tables were filled with diners by the time we left. This pub isn't very near to our home but we'll definitely go back when we can.

We took friends here based on the positive review previously submitted,.BIG Mistake! The location, which we had visited played a part, plus it was to be part of our friends 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration as we had missed their big day.Starters:- The Soup and the Prawn Cocktail was of a reasonable standard, fortunately our friend had these dishes. I had the Whitebait... I did not finish these and just left them as they were thickly covered with breadcrumbs and tasted of cooking oil. My wife had the Goats Cheese Tart and this was very bland.Main Courses..Our Male friend enjoyed his fish and chips... So No Complaint. The same cannot be said for those remaining. My Wife and our female friend had the half of Chicken. This was supposed to be dressed with Garlic. The chicken was small, burnt and overcooked, not to mention very dry. Just to look at it you could see it was burnt, the skin being completely black and inedible. This was both servings. Given a different occasion I would have immediately returned these dishes, but nobody, but nobody wanted to spoil the occasion. However, we did mention this to the waitress when the plates were removed, politely, but no Manager came to discuss this with us.I chose the pork belly. It arrived in two strips, not as a whole belly, which is my usual experience. The accompanying potatoes and Veg I just didn't eat as they tasted warmed up rather than fresh. I asked for some Apple Sauce and was told the Gravy had apple. I received the Apple sauce in the end, but felt that it was being provided reluctantly.Would I visit again... No. It certainly DOES NOT DESERVE THE PREVIOUS HIGH RATINGS THAT IT HAS RECEIVED ..BASED ON OUR VISIT.

I tuned up to an almost empty bar, actually there was one chap on a bar stool with a drink and 4 others sitting at a table. The bar man (old kyphotic and rude) just completely ignored me, despite me standing there 2 foot in front of him. He sipped his drink, someone came to pay their ‘tab’ obviously a local, he got served, I was still ignored not even acknowledged. Then he just walked off. Another (more pleasant and polite at least) member of staff seemed to take over. Again I’m standing there money in hand, the only person standing there waiting, when suddenly the chap on the stool decides he wants to pay his bill. With that he shouts across me to the bar person telling her what he’d had, despite him watching the ongoing proceedings and knowing I was technically first inline. It seems not only are the bar staff, rude some of the customers are lacking in simple manners too. I was checking the place out for a group of 10 next week......I’m sorry pub owner, your staff have lost you business.

We enjoyed the Greene King IPA - on top form and only £3.80 a pint! The Sauvignon Blanc was also very nice.

I was taken here for a Father’s Day meal after a day out in the area. I had a pie which was ok, I’m not sure the accompanying dry, hard unseasoned mash potato will take off though. Vegetables were also unseasoned and a bit on the soggy side. My wife’s jaws are still recovering from the workout they had with her roast beef. We had planned for desert but decided to leave early. Shame, as the pub has so much potential

When other restaurants in the west Kent area seemed mostly to be booked for Mothers day, I found this gem tucked away at Ide Hill. Rang and spoke with Monica who was happy to squeeze our large group of nine adults following another large group that was booked. The pub is on the edge of a idyllic village green with the church overlooking the opposite side. Indoors, you have all the exposed beams and open fire which is expected in an old English country pub. Although being a busy afternoon and the previous party taking slightly longer to vacate the table, the service was swift and courteous. The food was extremely good in both quality, presentation and quantity!. Excellent value. All in all, a memorable experience in a lovely setting and enjoyed by all of our party. Will definitely be visiting again and may enjoy some of the local walks at the same time.

We visited on a Sunday after a visit to Emmett's Garden. The pub was busy and we hadn't booked, but the girls behind the bar quickly found us a table. My wife and I had the steak and stilton pie and it was lovely and a good size. The kids meals (burger and chips and a roast), were also very good quality.

Decided to try this pub for our Easter Sunday family meal. Lovely casual atmosphere. The food was tasty, generous portion sizes and fairly priced. We were served by three lovely ladies who were very welcoming and efficient. Will definitely visit again.

I often visit the Cock Inn as it's like coming home - always a warm welcome, great pub food, excellent ales and other drinks, great location looking out over the village green, warm ambiance, superb service and very reasonable value. This time I've given them an extra star for consistency, which is important as it creates predictability, and The Cock Inn has never disappointed. Suffice it to say, I'll be back!

They managed really well with our group of 8 right from the start, especially as they had a slightly earlier booking for 14. Once we had ordered there was no lengthy wait for the food, and it both looked and tasted really fresh. Good portions too. Genuinely personable and friendly service. Although we've had drinks outside before this was our first inside an first food visit. Loved it and can't wait to come back.

We called in for lunch after a walk across country and this is the second time we have done this. The main bar is very welcoming with a huge fire and a nice bar. There is a good menu of main meals and snacks, which turn out to be a meal in itself. We had steak sandwiches served in baguettes and it comes with chips and a small salad.

The Cock Inn has been visited many times by myself over the years. Nestling in a very rural area, a wide Green separates it from the church above. When working locally was a good social meeting point. Now as merely a visitor on occasion, this lovely olde worlde pub which although undergone a few structural changes to the bar area over the years, now has a more manageable place to either relax over some hot soup and a beverage, and enough tables to accommodate a weary traveller after country walks. The inglenook fireplace is very welcoming and is the focal point on a cold day Food is very enjoyable whether eaten lunchtimes or evenings. Enjoy!!

Had a very nice roast lamb lunch and a glass of house Sauvignon Blanc. Hubble has Pork Belly with Black Pudding. Both dishes came with a nice variety of vegetables, roast potatoes and with the lamb, a Yorkshire pudding. We were offered mint sauce and apple sauce. Dogs on leads also welcome!

We were a walking group staying locally for the Friday and Saturday nights, and we eat at the Cock Inn both evenings. The most friendly and accommodating bar staff served two excellent bitters, one from a local brewery. The food was most delicious; on the Saturday evening with the full group of nine we ordered eight different meals off the comprehensive menu, and every choice came up trumps. We will be back again next year.

This is a lovely pub in the heart of the village, I joined 20 friends from the Sevenoaks area for lunch yesterday, none had visited the Pub before we had all pre-ordered our food. The Fish & Chips I had was delicious unfortunately other choices were terribly disappointing. The steak & kidney pudding was enormous and a strange colour and very dry, the chicken was also very dry. Sadly very little apple in the crumble. Most people left a lot of food on their plate. The service was friendly but sorry Cock Inn you need to improve the quality of your food please!

Charming little pub, a period building with white Kentish weatherboard facade and rustic interior. Lovely friendly staff and a very relaxed ambiance. We had sandwiches for lunch which were delicious and I’ll definitely return for some home-cooked food. The pub became very lively round about four o’clock and this was great. So many village pubs are closing, but I think this one is thriving and it deserves to do so!

This is a lovely pub easy to find on the village green at Ide Hill. The pub is in a great location with views out across the green to the local church and there's outside seating if the weather is fair. Inside, it is roomy yet maintains the cosy feel of a classic English pub (low beams, huge open fireplace etc.). I visited Thursday lunchtime and the staff were delightful - friendly, attentive and helpful. They have four really well kept real ales to choose from and although I didn't eat on this visit, the food looked really good so I will return for lunch. Altogether, top marks for the whole ambience. A really nice place.
