The Cobbler in Wakefield

Went for a meal as a family of 5 and 4 of the dishes were lovely. The goulash was lovely as well as the chicken burger and chicken stroganoff. Unfortunately the cobbler beef rib was not as good as it normally was -very fatty with not much meat at all. Overall though, food was okay and drinks were fine. What let it down was the lady who took our order at the bar, who I believe is named Gabbie. She came across as inattentive and quite rude and abrupt. Because she didn’t really listen to us, we were given the wrong drink twice (given pinot instead of chardonnay twice) also Overheard her talking about how she didn’t want to be there. Furthermore, she was awfully loud and obnoxious and we couldn’t hear each other at our table which was quite annoying. Oh well.

We had a meal here for the first time and the food and staff were Excellent.

The food is lovely but the portions are far too big. The childs portion is enough for an adult. We wasted so much food today which was a shame.

Great food orientated family pub with play areas. Sunday carvery especially good but busy. Still great.

Had 2 regular carveries. It was 1.30pm, the carvery was all covered up then the lad stirred all veg up. Choices were burned beef, pork, dried up turkey and gammon, or meat pie. My partner had pie said it was awful. I had gammon n pork. ( pork inedible) the roast potatoes were solid. The only veg edible was the carrots n new potatoes. Mashed server was a gateaux slice lol 😆 best thing about the food was the gravy. The waitress asked if everything was OK, when I said no she would let the chef know. Definitely won't be returning.

Great pub grub with good size portions. Ordered starters, which were delicious but large portion size, so we then couldn't finish equally good mains! Good value, friendly staff but not a lot of atmosphere.

Smart pub great food and friendly helpful staff.

Called today ordered Camembert, for starter.... BLT... For main waited 15 minutes, both arrived at same time, Camembert hard not runny, could not eat, only ate bacon won't be calling again.... Didn't complain as I don't like to but won't visit again...writing this for my son... Who was there with friends....

I have now been visiting the Cobbler for a few years and I must be say I've noticed a bit of a relapse. The kid's outside play area is still great but the food quality has taken a bit of a down turn. I'm not a huge eater but I left my last meal after consuming about 25%. Come on guys pick yourselves back up.

Always a pleasant experience, the staff are really friendly and the food is lovely and can’t beat a carvery every day of the week.

Had a starter of garlic bread and mushrooms... bang on!! Curry for mains.... garbage... something you would get as a freebie on a Friday night at your local.

We recently visited the restaurant, after a day at the races. Having seen some positive feedback online. As a result, we were looking forward to a hearty meal, in nice settings. Upon arrival and seeing the near full car park. We initially thought it has to be good. All these people can't be wrong. Once inside, we were pleased with the decore and the spacious, roomy feel. Although a little concerned by the children running around. Which gave off the impression of a family eatery and not that aimed at couples. I ordered the large haddock and chips with mushy peas and my friend ordered the Chicken Madagascar. Orders are taken at the bar, so note the table number when you go to get drinks and food. I have to say the bar staff are excellent. No waiting around and those I spoke with, were very friendly. Drinks prices were reasonable too. Now the negatives... The haddock and chips. Fish was ok. The batter a little stodgy. However the chips were poor quality, frozen ones and many were scrappy, inedible bits. The peas were good and tartare sauce, was excellent. Very creamy and moreish. The meal was accompanied with a small amount of chopped salad, which didn't work. Not on a plate of fish and chips. My friend's Chicken Madagascar looked appetising, however. The chicken was tough and the sauce was bland. Halfway through, she had to ask for a steak knife in order to cut through the chicken breast. Again, this meal was served with chips and a small garnish of salad. Overall. We went away very disappointed with the quality of the food and won't look to return. The bills with drinks came to around £40.

carvery was great apart from few minor issues - beef was overddone but thats personal preference so i cant mark them down for that. the roasties just not crispy enough. Lots of potato choice - boiled, roasties, mash. lots of veg choice and lots of meat - turkey, beef,pork and gammon gammon was lovely and yorkshires, staff were lovely and helpful would return and maybe try a sizzler next time

Lovely food, kids love the park outside too. Good selection of drinks to enjoy in the beautiful weather too. Would return

Best pub in Pontefract hands down!

Called in for lunch after a morning in Pontefract. Both had burgers which were cooked to perfection 👌 Staff really friendly and helpful. Only slight criticism was that the salad could have been better and the dish would have benefited with some homemade slaw...nice atmosphere too

Excellent family pub! Probably the best one in the area. Nice play area and the food has been brilliant quality every time we've been, and reasonably priced. It's always busy which is a good sign, and they always seem to have plenty of staff on. Definitely one of our regulars going forward

Typical pub food but the quality is very good with lots of choice. The Carvery is excellent value for money.

Called in Thursday about 2.30.Plenty of people in but not too busy.Ordered Thursday special,Fish and chips.Tbh we wouldnt order it again,do u use frozen fish pieces for the special because the fish wasnt white and the batter was soggy,I would have hated to have paid the menu price which was about £14 but then you probably use fresh fish for that?Will stick to normal menu next time.

Came here with my partner and in-laws. We were not aware of the portion sizes, so we ordered starters and mains. All starters were huge. Piping hot and delicious. Mains were the same. Ordered the rack of ribs and couldn't believe how big they were. Absolutely value for money here. The only slight negative is that onion rings smelt of fish. I don't know if this is because they're fried the same place as fish? As someone who doesn't eat fish, i ended up wasting them. I did tell the waitress when she came back. Apart from that, everything else was spot on. Great members of staff. Will be returning.

Staff was very nice. I visited the carvery to get some lunch before heading to 30 East Drive. Really helpful staff.

We have been to the cobbler a couple of times and it's always a hit. Huge portions, great value for money and tasty food!

Best place around castleford/knottingley/pontefract. They have a good food hygiene rating on the standards site. It was easy to order (great for those socially anxious), just note the table no. and order at the bar, took 2 minutes. Staff are accessible, friendly and easy to talk to. The pricing is really good, two drinks, two meals and a starter was around £36. Food portions are good, thick beef burger patties. The quality of the food was super tasty and satisfying. Chicken burger was smoky and it wasn't dry. The beef burger was soft and tasty. Definitely a new favourite spot, just watch out for food serving times, these can be checked on website. Only thing to note is that it was busy (justifiably) so it can be loud. Parking is available.

There are many steak menus, and this restaurant seemed to recommend steak, so I ordered the rump steak. There was a lot of beer on the menu, and the steak was charcoal-grilled and very delicious. I was able to find a good restaurant because it was close to the hotel I was staying at.

Met up with an old school mate. Great food. Will be using again.

We have been a few times, the food is fabulous and great value for the money. We would recommend this place to anyone. The staff were pleasant and the surroundings very nice .

Always popular destination, decent food with carvery and extensive menu items, reasonable prices, big parking area.

I have to thank The Cobbler for the way they accommodated my group. We brought a large group of Post-16 students who have Severe Learning Difficulties and Autism and a range of physical needs. On booking, we were told we'd be given an area at the top where there were toilets nearby. As it turned out, we were the only ones in the area and the table was set out beautifully for us with a Christmas cracker each. I was shown the wheelchair access and we had no problems accessing the room. There were a number of young people who needed their food blending and the staff there were happy to do that so that all the young people could have a carvery. At the carvery station, the staff were really helpful and patient while the students chose their meal (some of them being non-verbal). It is lovely to go somewhere and feel that our students are just as accepted as anyone else at the venue. Thank you.

Been here twice in last two week. The first time was a last minute thing , and they got us in even though it was so busy . The second time I had booked our Christmas meal from work and they couldn’t do enough for us Food fab And fantastic value for money The staff are amazing

What a great place the food was plentyful and and very tasty we were there on Sunday and it was very full but this didnt hamper the food service. I would throughly recommend a visit.

Lovely food here,always very busy when i have been but quick service. Staff are friendly and helpful. Small play area for the kids outside plus tables outside if the weather is kind.

The food was really good with a great selection on the menu and a carvery. We opted for a large and a regular carvery and spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread. The portion sizes are very generous, and they offer a takeaway container if you don't eat it all. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the pub itself is warm and welcoming. This will now be a regular for us for food. We were definitely impressed.

Cracking food, very tasty Indeed. When we looked on Google Maps it did say the pub allowed pets in, maybe it did once but that's no longer the case. Not a problem as there is plenty of outdoor seating. All in all, a nice pub.

It's was really good experience couldn't fault anything.

This is a large restaurant/ pub with a large food menu and carvery. I was driving so can't speak too much to the alcohol available but the food was decent and on par with similar types of establishments brought relatively quickly given the number of customers. There's loads of outside tables too and a children's play area if the weather is decent.

Good was excellent but VERY NOISY ATMOSPHERE.

Went for a carvery here and really enjoyed the food. The pub is clean and modern, menus are well-designed and the portion sizes are huge! Only sold sugar-free redbull which is weird and annoying as I felt sleepy after my large meal, but other than that no complaints

Carvery isn't bad to be fair,just can't understand why they use frozen roasties they are never ever nice,it's like eating rubber honestly...Best thing to do is go a couple of 100 yards up the road to the olde tavern where the dinners are always perfect including roast potatoes 😊

Absolutely disgusting customer service by the black hair / beard guy behind the bar. This person has got a serious bad attitude and shouldn't be let loose near any public service establishment.

As always it was a good quality self service carvery. Despite that it was very busy, the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was well cooked and well presented with plenty of choices in meat and vegetables. The only down side this time and last time (a month ago) was the roast potato's. They are very tough, I think they might be deep fried but Im not sure. The outer layer is tought to cut and tough to eat however the insides are light and fluffy. All in all, a good experience and I will go back

Used to love this place for food. But the last 3 times we have been the food has been terrible. Was there with friends on Friday and the food again had to send it back. What’s going on? . Will not be back here which is a shame as we used to recommend it to all friends & family.

Been today both had3 lamb chops and chips & minted gravy ....chips were foul frozen dry wrinkled up like yesterday's warmed up ...not the first to complain a table of 6 complained too ...the waitress already knew chips were awful when we complained .. they were the same when we complained last month too so £31 for 6 lamb chops ....not be back for a while

No phone signal so had to use free WiFi but not the best and roast potatos were very good (too hard ok outisde) but all other food was good.

Great carvery. Piping hot. Which is very rare. Big bug bare of mine. Hate cold food. This was red hot. Will definitely be back. Spoilt for choice on the menu. Can't wait to come back

People are really friendly and helpful, the sandwiches are nice but the carvery is dire.. cold, bland and dry like it was old and reheated with a hairdryer.

We have been coming for a long time but last 3 times, the food has not been great. Went yesterday, told the waitress that whilst the King Prawn Fajitas were delicious, advertised on the menu as "King Prawns", the prawns were small shrimps, hard, chewy and tasteless like small frozen supermarket prawns. No feedback after we complained. Been going for years but won't be coming again :-(

Called on spec, not been before but will go again. Staff friendly and efficient. Service speedy. Food presented well, especially smoked haddock meal which i thoroughly enjoyed.

Called in as haven’t been for years for some lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Gone downhill since last visit. Service extremely slow, lager poor, food just about edible. We ordered beef sarnie which was tasteless not even real gravy. The gammon was fatty and chips were hit and miss ….. defo one off the list for a return visit.

It’s been a firm favourite with us for years but today every single meal was sub standard and it’s really put us off. Won’t be returning

Had Sunday dinner been before but today wasn't very nice at all also bought takeaway dinner got medium dinner to be told while getting dinner i have to pay for large dinner if I want takeaway even though it was for a child there were no signs up saying this the staff were clever and rude when I said I asked then paying I wanted a take away dinner nothing was said then don't think I'll be going back again

Had dinner here mid-week. It was okay, nothing more, nothing less. Not sure about the bad language that was being allowed and the smoking in the door way.

Good prices, good portions and a great friendly atmosphere, I recommend for evenings with family, friends or if you fancy a sneaky one on your own on way back from work.

Rustic pub feel from the outside, nice beer garden and large selection of beers and spirits. The food is very poor as in my opinion there is too much going on so the simpler dishes are suffering. Is this a carvery or a gastro pub? I don't believe it can be both. Such a shame as the venue is lovely.

The Sunday carvery is absolutely epic - great value and food is delicious, staff are friendly. Only gripe is how busy it gets sometimes but it's a testament to how good it is. Has a big outdoor play area for the kids.

Food was average for a carvery , didn't really get much meat compared to.other carvery places, but was still a enjoyable nice meal . Staff nice and polite always a busy place so would book a table .

We love it here! Usually get carvery but sometimes do order off the menu. Me my mum and gran all devoured our food. Great value for money, polite and helpful staff. Never a problem here! Keep up the good work! :) xxxx

Chips were great. Chicken wrap was more sweet than chilli. But tasted good if you like sweet chilli chicken

Popped in last night for some fodder, absolutely amazing, the staff was great, food was big healthy portions, taste fantastic,only drawback was the heart burn but that wasn't anything to do with the food of the restaurant lol I need to learn how to control myself, beef rib and duck dishes are ones to go for in my opinion, will try the t bone next time, prices are on the cheaper side of average. Thank you very much, we should pay you visit more often

Value for money. What I'd class as going out for tea rather than going to a restaurant for Dinner. Was quite noisy.

Best food we have had in ages. Will certainly return.
