The Coast Bar & Dining Room in Isle of Wight

I have to say this place really nails it. Four of us visited from the mainland and not having booked wandered around checking the menus to see what took our fancy. The choices were the main decision maker for us on this place as the choices were interesting and varied and caters for a wide audience, from high end fish dishes to wood fired pizza options and roasts on a Sunday. When near the sea it seems sacrilege not to fish it up and choices were not lacking. Scallops for starters and whole sea bass with rosemary roasted potatoes for mains for me and I couldn’t resist a nibbler of boquerones (my favourite way to eat anchovies). Others had Brie as a starter and roast beef and chicken supreme as well as another sea bass fillet with a chorizo and tomato risotto. All of these dishes came out in good time without feeling rushed and without fault everyone thought their food was stunning. Flavours, freshness, portion size all spot on. Couple with that some lovely cocktails and some tremendously good looking (and smelling) pizzas passing out table and yes this place is definitely a place to go. Price for 4 with several drinks and some 3 courses was £200 which I think is perfectly reasonable for the quality and environment. Top drawer, we will return!!

Having arrived in Cowes for the first time in many years, we walked onto the high street and studied the menus on display at the many eateries. Coast's menu looked interesting and varied, so in we went. Service from the start was friendly, informal but perfectly attentive. Four of us occupied a round table near the pizza oven and made our choices as we enjoyed drinks, a couple of Amstel beers, wine and a seriously lovely Jasmine and white peach Bellini cocktail. Starters of Boquerones (surprising good), Scallops and Somerset Brie were all excellent, and set us up nicely for the mains. Another couple of drinks were ordered from the attentive team as the main dishes arrived. A beef Sunday roast, which is one of the best Sunday roasts I've eaten in a restaurant / pub. Sea bass, beautifully cooked and chicken supreme with a rich flavour. All meals were eaten in near silence - always a good sign, and were satisfyingly filling. Keen to carry on the culinary experience we also enjoyed cheese boards before settling the reasonable bill. We will have to return to Coast as there were so many other wonderful options on the menu, we don't want to risk FOMO. A great experience.

6 of us went for dinner (17 April) and the food was poor quality and over-priced and the restaurant was very noisy which made conversation difficult. We had low priced mains/no wine/no desert/no tea or coffee and the bill was £142.75. We ordered 3 beers and were charged for 4 at £7 each. We only noticed this when we got home so it was our fault for not checking/correcting at the time. Overall a poor experience and not a good choice

Great vibe, super service!! So pleased we discovered this fab restaurant. The greeting from the lovely lady, front of house, provided us with a warm welcome & her equally accommodating colleagues offered us a dining experience at the bar, providing us with attentive service in a friendly & efficient manner. The bar staff were on point, in what was a very busy environment. The food was first class & delicious, served piping hot & in a manner which allowed us to thoroughly enjoy our meal without feeling rushed. We even managed to catch the return ferry with minutes to spare…… if you’re seeking an excellent dining experience in Cowes you’ll find it difficult to surpass The Coast…… top performance guys, keep doing what you do best….. it’s obvious you enjoy what you do!!

I have just had a most enjoyable evening at Coast dining with a friend. My 3rd visit to the restaurant, one of my favourites whenever I find myself in Cowes. We were seated in the upstairs area which is cosy and intimate. A good selection of dishes; Specials, and being a Sunday, roasts plus the full menu. We had pizza and Pumpkin and Ricotta ravioli respectively washed down with a bottle of French white. All delicious plus good service from the pleasant young waiter made for a lovely evening.

Relaxed eatery with a cool vibe. We have been eating here for many years now, always consistent. Locals use this all year round. Coast gets very busy in the summer season with visitors, so advisable to book in advance.

We recently had a delightful day trip to the Isle of Wight, and our lunch at The Coast Bar exceeded all expectations! We ordered the pan-fried scallops, seafood linguine, and whole sea bass, and everything was perfect. The price is also reasonable. The staff were incredibly welcoming, making our dining experience truly memorable.

The service team is very kind and professional, and the food is very delicious as well, The location is perfect and everything is good except a little important detail about the loudness of the played music. It is so loud, it didn't allow me sometimes to hear anything or to have any simple conversation. So we left directly after finishing our meal. I am not sure if I will come back again, because of this.

Have been so many times and coast never disappoints but today I ordered a takeaway and sat at the bar - still such a wonderful experience . Mainly due to the lovely young lady whose name I didn’t catch , but was managing everything with calm efficiency and went out of her way to get me a very specific drink. Also had a lovely chat with Sal behind the bar - even when busy the staff always give you that extra bit of love to make you feel special . What more can a customer ask for. Amazing pizzas too just FYI

3rd time eating at the Coast and every time has been amazing. The food is high quality and the service is great, very helpful, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Consistency is spot on as my boyfriend had the same things as last time and they were exactly the same and just as delicious. The only down side is how popular it is as we went on Sunday at 5.30 and they had sold out of roast dinners..lol, so we will make sure to go at lunch time in the future. Highly recommend.

Good food with attentive and friendly service. Food came out in good time and was very good. Cocktails were average but the mood and atmosphere made up for that. The background music added to the experience without it being to loud and over bearing. Would recommend to all those that visit Cowes.

Lovely food and atmosphere. Friendly staff. Fit a large group in at short notice. Menu had loads of great options so we struggled to choose but the prawn and crab risotto was a massive hit!

We go to The Coast most times when in Cowes with friends ( we live back of the wight) and it hasn't let us down. Not high dining but always good, modern slightly trendy ( to us old fa*ts) food. We like the window seat where you can people watch in a deep armchair/ sofa 🙂

Our trip on a February cold evening to Coast was mixed. The staff were attentive and friendly but the atmosphere was cold as was the temperature ! It was so cold we didn’t /couldn’t take our coats off. We started off downstairs for drinks and were cold but were taken upstairs to eat and it was freezing! The food was good but small portions and expensive. Maybe ensure the place is warm for diners sitting still rather than for the staff who are constantly on the go.

Extremely disappointed with our visit. We randomly stopped by this place while exploring the island, and while the barman was professional and respectful, the waitress was the complete opposite—rude, unprofessional, and completely lacking basic customer service skills. Her attitude made it impossible for us to even consider staying to try the food. A truly terrible experience that left a bad impression. Avoid this place if you expect to be treated with basic respect.

A cold, wet and windy January Sunday lunch needed warmth, good food and friendly service. Coast Restaurant, once again, dealt us a “Full House” - It was full and had great ambience Two of us had been left in Cold Cowes by our respective wives … who had sought warmer climes away from their hubbies We both had the same Specials of the Day - Lobster Bisque to start and the beef main course. Both were delicious. Not being a great aficionado on the bisque - I cannot comment on it besides saying it was very good. The Hampshire beef was served pink/red (I suppose you call that medium rare/rare) … just the way I like it. The beef was piled upon the roast potatoes and parsnips I must say I prefer my roasts to be more crispy and served on the side but it was all, including the gravy, delicious and the huge Yorkshire pudding was gorgeous! Well done Coast Restaurant … still the best food in Cowes.

The food was at best disappointing. This is an expensive restaurant but the food does not warrant the price. Two of our party had the risotto and it was mushy and overcooked to the extent you could spread it on toast!! Being seafood risotto it should not be served with Parmesan cheese unless requested, it was smothered. The ‘wild’ mushrooms on toast were tesco chestnut mushrooms, even though we had specifically asked if the mushrooms were wild as they had not been on a previous visit, yes we had been hoodwinked there on previous visits but thought we would try again. NEVER AGAIN. The mushroom starter arrived and was replaced with Lobster bisque. This was salty and lacked flavour. The salt cod croquettes were not golden brown but dark brown and overcooked again. This food is not freshly made. The only food freshly made there is the pizzas. For a restaurant of this price range and which sets itself up as gourmet quality. It was poor. Neither of us could finish our food as it was unpleasant. The plus is the staff were lovely and tried hard, the young man in charge was a delight and tried to sort things after I spoke with him very quietly to one side. We were given a reduction of one risotto, bringing the bill down to £107, with 3 drinks. I never have a problem paying for good food as I am a good cook and really enjoy dining out and well good food. But this was simply poor and over-priced, the risotto should never have been served.

Was invited for a Sunday dinner today and the food was amazing and the staff were so accommodating especially as we had our 20 month old daughter with us, highly recommended

Typical restaurant with soft lights, pub type. Excellent service, good starter of mixed cold cuts with delicious ricotta and honey sauce that toned down the saltiness. Excellent potato and fish soup accompanied by croutons with hot gorgonzola. Excellent tiramisu. They also make pizza but we haven't tried it. Excellent wine list. Competitive price. Remember to pay tips which correspond to a percentage of your choice on the total amount. It is not mandatory but usual in the UK.

We visited as a large group for our Christmas lunch, and it was such a great experience! All the food was fantastic, and the service was warm and attentive. We started with a Charcuterie board, which was a hit with everyone. For my main, I chose the Steak Frites, and it was absolutely delicious—tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. The Crème Brûlée Tart was a lovely twist on the classic, feeling lighter and softer but still full of flavour. This was a Christmas menu, so you might not find the same dishes on the menu at other times of the year.

Second visit in the last few years as an infrequent visitor to Cowes. Appears very popular. Lunchtime service was extremely quick bordering on being rushed. However, my light lunch of fritto misto followed by creme brulé was very nice. Will definitely be back next time in the IoW.

Easily the best restaurant in cowes, that said, last time we went the service was quite slow which the staff blamed on a table of 25 in another part of the bar which considering our bill was £400 found the comment somewhat annoying which was the reason for not tipping.

Brilliant find after a glorious day visiting Osbourne House. Great menu, fresh seafood choices and much more. Our waitresses were very attentive and the food was delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We were blown away with the menu, so many wonderful things to choose from. I chose a daily special of Seabass- it did not disappoint, husband had another special again he said it was spot on. Kids had pizza and pasta so they too were happy. Service was very attentive and friendly and we went away full and happy! The place was busy which is great to see. What a great find on our holiday. Thanks for looking after us.

Despite being wet and bit strangled, we received a warm welcome when we arrived at lunchtime yesterday Excellent choice of fish , meat vegetarian starters and main courses Two of us opted for the butternut squash soup with sourdough bread and one for the lobster bisque And shared bruschetta starter It was beautifully presented, seasons perfectly and tasted fantastic as good as it looked We plan to return to the Isle of Wight and another occasion it will definitely go back to try some of their other dishes All the staff were helpful and helped us with directions for our return cycle to Yarmouth Harbour

What happened? I used to frequent this place most weeks. Food is now grim, service is poor. Worst moules I’ve ever tasted and the olives tasted very medicinal almost like Germoline… bloody weird.

I couldn't fault our visit to The Coast this evening. Everything about it was perfect. The service was brilliant: staff were friendly, charming and just the right level of attentive. Food arrived at exactly the right moment. It was busy but all seemed effortless. The meals were excellent and the menu was inspiring. Lovely atmosphere and decor. Just great all round.

My mum and I came here for dinner on the Saturday just gone. It was a plate of warming beautiful food with amazing flavours. It was classic simple and extraordinary. The service was a bit slow near pudding but that was due to the mamouth amount of people that came in to enjoy their food. We loved it so much that I came back for brekkie the next day, it was one of the best full English’s I’ve ever eaten! I want to try it again! Also to add the decor was stunning! And we were able to bring our dogs in when we were eating inside, it allowed us to eat other then ‘pub grub’ and made all the difference to our trip to the island! Lastly the prices were so reasonable! Defo the best place we have eaten in on the island!

Had the very best Sunday roast beef ever today!! Succulent beef superb roast potatoes, parsnip & carrot. Perfectly cooked broccoli, French beans & onions. Huge Yorkshire pud & amazing gravy!! Crème Brûlée tart with ice cream for dessert! Absolutely delicious 😋😋 & not expensive!! I’ll be back soon!👌🧑‍🍳🤗🍷

An absolutely fantastic experience in a dog friendly environment with some of the best elevated pub menu food we've had in a long time. Everything was superb. Highly recommended.

Terrible for the price better food at cheaper restaurants

Disappointed that the star of the King Prawn Linguine dish - the king prawns - were not deveined. Manager stated unapologetically that these prawns were not prepped on the premises(?) and brought extra plate of cooked deshelled prawns “to bulk up the dish”. Unfortunately the disgusting gritty, bitter taste of the prawns intestinal tract ruined the whole dish for all 3 of us that ordered it.

Went here recently for a work’s lunch and cannot praise the place enough. The scallops were beautiful and the fillet was cooked to perfection. Everyone’s food looked fantastic. I had a few dietary restrictions and the staff were there to help and ensure that everything was OK for me. I would definitely recommend the restaurant to others.

We are always looking for vegan options and we were delighted to find this cute little restaurant. We sat outside on the street which was good for people watching but not the most comfortable. We had their Mediterranean sharing plate and it was absolutely divine, beautifully prepared and presented. It ended up being enough for our dinner! And we had a lovely bottle of wine which was well priced and good.

Lovely early evening dinner. We were a table of five (plus two dogs). Everything was superb. The staff were brilliant, very friendly and welcoming, the food was perfect. Between us we had Whitebait, crab cake, lobster bisque, and scallops to start, then seafood risotto, cote de boeuf (shared between two), lobster and duck confit. All dishes were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend!

The lobster was tasty, we shared it for 2 people, but I would recommend not to share it because it’s not enough. Great place if you’re looking for sea food.

Place is really nice and look lovely for the front we was taken to our table which unfortunately was up stairs so not as nice as down stairs food was really good but the service was not good or friendly, but the place was clean

Good food.is worth paying a bit more for. We were well-served by staff even on a Friday evening, when it is very popular.

Really good service levels from all staff which was refreshing and impressive. We turned up on a whim and the host was great and managed to re-work his floor plan to squeeze us in. Luckily so as the meal was amazing (and the wine was great too). Highly recommended for a great dinner out.

As someone with a nut allergy, I was very well taken care of. I also came with my three year old daughter who is not used to eating out. The lovely waitresses were friendly and understanding, even asking if we would like her pizza to come out as soon as possible so she wasn’t waiting around. I’ve been here a good few times over the years, have always had duck in some form and every time I can honestly say that it is the best duck I’ve ever had. This time was a confit duck leg and it fell from the bone. It was flavourful and beautifully cooked. The truffle fries are delightful and I love the atmosphere. This is a restaurant who have gotten every aspect spot on. It is a treat to eat here and not to be missed!

The food really was lovely, we had a lobster which was on the larger side and plenty for two! It was also delicious, as were the starters of some nocerella olives and scallops. What was a problem was the tables were close enough that I could have easily eaten the next tables dinner for them without moving, and they were hammered and abrasive which really took the shine off. I know you need to get covers in but I wasn’t looking to be able to get to know the other guests *quite* so intimately

Had a meal for 4 'on the hop' on Monday 5th August - what a delightful surprise. Despite not having a booking the maitre d' managed to fit us in quite quickly and we were all incredibly impressed with the service, the ambiance and the food. A truly magical find that we would return to again and again. One of our party had 'the fish of the day', which turned out to be Sea Bass, another had Chicken Milanese, another had crab and the 4th had pizza - all arrived piping hot and delicious. Would highly recommend this venue to any visitors to the area - we will certainly be going back.

Had a lovely day out and lost track of time. Stumbled across The coast bar after realising that almost every other place had closed their kitchens for the evening. Easy access via the high street. Comfortable seating. Friendly staff. High quality dishes presented in a superb manner. The atmosphere was lovely. Absolutely nothing to fault. Well worth a visit.

Buzzing restaurant serving really good dishes. Very lively atmosphere. Not cheap but good value. Post script. Back again two years later, this place is still rocking! Excellent food, friendly and impeccable service and actually, relative to other restaurants now, competitively priced!

Excellent service, great staff and fantastic food. I am really fussy and was worried about the steak (chefs nightmare, I like it well done). It was the best steak ever! The dessert was also lovely. All the dishes were served with great presentation. Staff were so helpful and informative about the menu.

The best restaurant we have attended whilst on the island the Lobster was perfect although other restaurants that claim to be the best did not came close the the coast restaurant They even done a candle in my pudding for my birthday and the wife steak was cooked to perfection Thank you for your service we will be back next year

Quality food with reasonable price. This place is excellent value. Just had dinner for 4 (2 adults 2 young children). Service can be a bit faster but overall, food is amazing. Kids mopped up their pepperoni pizza and fish coujon in no time. Our muscle and sea bass were divine. Portions are generous as well. So really good value.

Creatures of habit, we last came to The Coast when we visited the Isle Of Wight two years ago...and it didn't disappoint! As a family of 9 spanning over 60 years, we headed straight for The Coast after arriving on the Island for a late breakfast. Opting for a range of grub, from simple scrambled eggs on toast to a full English breakfast, we had a short wait for grub which were all presented well. The only (small) gripe was that the toast option was a sourdough variety which was very hard to cut with a knife let alone bite into. Moreover, the cute foil-wrapped butter sachets were a great addition to the "...on toast" options, but it meant we had to remove our eggs from the toast in order to spread the butter. Really not a biggie, but denture-wearers may want to update their warranties. Onto the loos, the lock wasn't entirely dependable in one of them, almost coming away from the door. In addition to the flush handle not working especially well, the loos would benefit from a bit of tlc before the peak of summer season. Mindful that we sound a bit high-maintenance and hard to please, we could not fault the staff at all. They were absolutely lovely, the food tasted amazing and the atmosphere was fab. We will deffo be back in two years...I just won't be having the toast and will make sure I whistle loudly in the loo!

Sorry . Whilst it was not a disaster. It was ordinary. Fish and chips , duck and fish cakes were okay(at cowes prices) the extra portion of chips could have been from mc donalds. As for the wine ...the house red (from chile) was ,with respect, not good enough. We hope they can improve.

Very nice food with a varied menu, with friendly staff and good service. Restaurant has a nice vibe, perfect for solos, couples or groups.

Our first visit to the restaurant....called in for lunch with our little dog Bruce during a trip to Cowes. We had a lovely lunch in a great lunchtime atmosphere.... the food was delicious (we had whitebait, caesar salad and pizza) and the service spot on....we were happy to leave a tip for a great island experience....10/10

Great restaurant in Cowes - kitchen doesn’t close until 10pm on some nights which is really useful for when you’re coming over on the ferry.

Absolutely phenomenal food! Simply delicious! Personal opinion, it would have been a 5⭐️ review but as the venue is “dog friendly”, people have to put up with dogs around while you eat. Big negative for me. Unhygienic and not what everyone is comfortable with. Especially in such a small room.

Fantastic place for a meal in Cowes, can’t recommend it enough. Visited here with my husband and two children while staying on IOW for the week. The service, food and atmosphere was great and we will definitely be back next time we visit the island. Super detailed allergy menus online too which meant my son enjoyed starter, main and dessert which is pretty unheard of! Thank you for a great visit!

We booked dinner for 2 at The Coast after it came highly recommended. Suffice to say, we arrived very hungry after a busy day out and were left unsatisfied. Despite a booking, the service we received was manic. Three waitresses for a full restaurant. We ordered ‘nibbles’ to begin, with our order being served to the wrong table. We continued to wait, addressing the staff of our concerns in the process, with the table next door receiving their main course before we had our full compliment of ‘nibbles’. We arrived first. The lights were dimmed, practically turned off, half way through service. In the midst of a loud environment with inattentive service, we were uncomfortable. Once we eventually received our order. The duck, served on sweet potato mash with a red wine jus had no flavour and resembled baby food. The fish cakes were predominantly potato and bread crumbs. Both of which were not value for money and required side dishes. We paid in full, despite the staff knowing we were not happy. We left the restaurant to a ‘see you later’; we will not return.
