Booked to go back on Saturday for dinner. Place was very busy and advised that there was a 30 min wait. No problem ,food was lovely and great atmosphere . Excellent staff who all worked very hard Will definitely be back

The manageress and her team, (mum in particular), couldn’t have been more kind, friendly and accommodating for us and our dogs. We ate there twice and each time the food was lovely. Dad is pizza chef and was kind enough to save us a couple of pizzas for the following night. Fully recommend a meal out here, whether you are camping or just in the area.

Absolutely beautiful restaurant at Hoddom Castle Caravan Park, we stayed for 2 nights over the weekend there and we grabbed some takeaway stonebaked pizzas when we arrived after setting up which were absolutely amazing, highly recommend the Wardens Feast 👌 .. we then went back the following evening for some dinner and to watch the entertainment, bingo, open the box and a singer, the food was absolutely beautiful, i had the salt and chilli chicken special, it was absolutely yummy, can not fault anything what so ever, we were two families with a total of 7 people & 5 dogs and they were more than happy to accommodate us all and we had an absolute blast, the games and the singer were just brilliant, love that the bar is family and dog friendly and we were all able to stay for the entertainment and a few drinks, it was such a great night with a lovely atmosphere and all the staff were so lovely.... one thing though, my bingo numbers weren't called out :( never mind, will definitely be back for another game to two ! Thanks Coach House, we look forward to coming back soon ! :)

Bit of a mixed one this, before we went I messaged them to clarify opening times etc and they confirmed they are open every day except Monday, OK we think, will make alternative arrangements for Monday then. Staff generally didn’t seem to have much of a clue what was happening, lots of them hanging about doing very little and one person serving at bar on late Saturday afternoon. No indication if breakfast was available on the Sunday and when we asked there was again a general confusion already mentioned as to whether it would be available. Saturday evening was decent enough with a singer belting out some good tunes and breakfast on Sunday, which did turn out to be available after all, was pretty good, but seemed very few people aware due to lack of info that breakfast would be available. We had booked dinner in the Restaurant on the Sunday evening, expecting a Sunday Roast, which was not available. The restaurant was also mysteriously closed and we were forced to eat in the bar area, two TV’s belting out on different channels didn’t do a lot for the ambience TBH. My steak pie was pretty good, however my wife ordered the Veg Kebab with chicken added, again person taking our order seemed to have little idea of what was on the menu, then we were later advised they had no skewers (why offer kebabs then?) so they offered it as a stir fry, what turned up was not great, added chicken was small pieces which would be expected on a Pizza, we complained but were not offered any refund for the mostly not eaten stir fry that looked and tasted very poor. Then they unexpectedly closed on the Tues and Wed too with no explanation. Not sure I would recommend.

Stayed for the August Bank Holiday weekend. Lovely site, The Coach House is set in spectacular grounds and having spent a week here last year, its a marked improvement in terms of the management. Food was very tasty, the wood fired pizzas are a special touch and awesome. Very busy weekend and despite the staff clearly having a lot to do, they remained cheerful and professional. Live music, games and later karaoke where all a really fun way to end the night. Sadly, the only thing to spoil the experience, and it happens everywhere sadly after one too many shandies, was someone with a mouth like a sewer abusing the staff with words no children should hear. No reflection on the place though and happily return again. 5*****

Absolutely brilliant lunch at the coach house, staff are so friendly and couldn't do more to help, going out of their way to make sure everyone had all they needed and accommodating a very noisy 18month old! Will definitely be recommending!

The Coach House at Hoddam Castle. Well, where do I start. Terrible and very poor customer service, very rude, unexperienced, and unprofessional staff. When asked about an error on the order, we were shot down and swore at and asked to leave. As a paying customer, l was shocked and disappointed. After returning to our tent, we had a visitor explaining that he had experienced the same sort of thing just a few weeks ago. We were lied to and made to feel as though we were in the wrong for querying the bill. I would not recommend the Coach House at Hoddam Castle. It's such a shame because Hoddam Castle itself was fantastic. My advice would be to find another owner to run the Coach House. Otherwise, you may find that a lot of customers will not be returning. Do it now before its too late.

Now under new management this season, the Coach House at Hoddam Castle is well worth a visit for either food or drink. The staff extremely helpful and the management excelled themselves this past weekend following a technical failure within the kitchen and not to wishing to disappoint hungry campers arranged freshly baked wood-fired pizzas. So yummy that they are destined to return I believe. Well done Ainsley true dedication.

Motorhoming around the highlands, we came to our first stop, just north of the border near Lockerbie. Hoddom Castle is a beautiful old building in a beautiful setting (aren’t they always?). We will review the camp site on its own page but whilst there we decided to go for an ‘easy meal’ at the coach house. It’s a lovely setting in the courtyard of the castle itself with very little modernisation. The couple who have recently taken it on are very welcoming and were happy to chat when time allowed. We sat in the bar itself for our food as the restaurant doesn’t often open on Mondays and Tuesdays due to there being so few visitors. We could have sat outside which would have been lovely but the sun had already gone off the courtyard so decided against it. They did show us around the restaurant though as we are interested in the architecture and for that reason alone we will be coming back! TLTR… A good selection of Beers and wines was available and a few spirits. There may be more but as non-drinkers we had no reason to ask. The menu isn’t huge but it caters for most tastes including a vegan selection. We had the macaroni cheese and the cheeseburger. Both with chips. Top marks to the chef who could only be marked down on the time it took to come out. It was definitely worth the wait though. We found out later that catering is not his profession but I recommended that he would do well if it was. All in all it was a nice place to be with a nice atmosphere and good food at a fair price. What more can you ask?

Called in for a quick pint whist up from Manchester ended up staying all afternoon. The elderly gentleman David behind the bar was an absolute star. The blonde lady ( whose name I didn’t get) was a great host being friendly and welcoming. One of the locals was very friendly and I enjoyed a couple of good chats whist ordering from the bar . The restaurant side looked great but we didn’t have Tim to eat. There’s a small seating area outside some of it partially covered. If you want a pint at a friendly pub you won’t go wrong her 😁

My friend and I went for a themed Mexican night, absolutely did not disappoint. Beautifully homemade throughout. The highlight for me was the soup....gorgeous!!! The pulled pork was lush and the chicken was divine, the dessert was light yet filling and a refresher to the pallette after the spice. 10/10 experience. The only thing that was disappointing was that the place wasn't rammed with people, a sad reflection on the Dumfries population!

This is a modern styled café with an attractive view over the River Nith and Criffel, about 5 miles outside Dumfries. Getting to the location can involve a pleasant rural/coastal circular drive taking in attractions at Caerlaverock Castle and the wildfowl Nature Reserve. There is a free to use public car park at the site. On a solo visit in September 2024 I dropped in without pre-booking and managed to get a table despite the fact the place was quite busy. There was a quirky choice of snacks on the menu, as previously experienced, and on this occasion I had the Huevos Barqueros (£9.95) which was toasted sourdough topped with crushed avocado, (mild) Harissa, rocket lettuce, creamy feta cheese and a poached egg. The flavours were good and the overall snack was tasty however the poached egg was barely warm and the overall portion was not large. On that occasion there was a limited choice of cakes on display however I had a piece of roulade with a meringue outer edge and Black Forest filling. This slightly different treat was filling and tasted good. By the time I had added a fruity flavored low alcohol IPA to accompany the lunch my bill came to just over £20 which I thought was okay. Service was pleasant and the timing of delivery good. I followed up the visit a month later with a reservation to meet up with a couple of relatives for lunch. They were delayed about 30 minutes en route and whilst I had a coffee and admired the view, staff were understanding and there was no pressure on me to give up the table which was appreciated. Once my relatives arrived, we had a pleasant tasting lunch which was able to satisfy my relatives particular dietary requirements in a relaxed atmosphere. On both visits I noticed that the menu was a bit dog-eared and grubby looking and could probably have been better protected by being laminated or inside a plastic covering. The toilets in contrast are very well maintained! There is a small shop on the site selling a limited number of products.
