We went song today Saturday 3rd February 2024. It was very friendly with a great mix of ages. We had a laugh and the staff were great. Some cracking beers as well. It was clean and got busy. Locals were great as we were a crowd that had turned up to watch the football. Only thing was it was card only payment. But but I won't mark you down for that.

Feel rather harsh only four stars as it is better than that. Too hot and too many wasps is hardly their fault! This is a truly exceptional pub. More than worthy of the excellent Thor bridge beer and vice versa. Like many people, my visit was related to the proximity to Sheffield FC. It's a cup game, it's a lovely day and it's busy. Very busy. All in a days work would be a fair assessment. Friendly and professional would be an understatement. Prices fair and beer exceptional. The young lad behind the bar was struggling with the heat but only let it show on his break outside.(I saw ya). Couldn't imagine why on earth I would go to Dronfield unless it was for football. I now know the answer. A superb establishment that I wish every success in the future, and life's too short to not go back. Thank you for a most enjoyable visit. Spalding FC forever

Disappointed. Visited for a Sunday roast this weekend. It was Ok but the portions were tiny, I should've gone to Toby Carvery. I was given 3 of the tiniest roast potatoes I've ever seen and they were a bit bland too. No mash potato either! The meat was Ok but again, only a few slithers and it was dry. I gave my girlfriend my broccoli, I'm not a fan of the stuff, she said it was tough and overcooked. The service was good and everyone was polite and cheerful. The desserts were nice and thankfully the portions were generous. Overall though, nothing can repay the disappointment that was that Sunday roast. Based on that, I probably wouldn't go here again, at least not for food.

Arrived to find a very untidy busy bar. Only one girl serving and she had gone missing. Everyone was saying where's Mark. The girl eventually appeared and we placed order for food and drinks. Then the barrel went and people were left waiting again. We used to love the food here but something has gone completely wrong. We ordered pie with chips and mushy peas, scampi with chips and peas £9.95 and fishcakes with chips and peas £9.95. What a waste of money. The chips were disgusting cheap frozen ones . Scampi and fishcake not good and my husband disappointed with the pie. Presentation was rubbish no hint of a side salad. Condiments all came in packets. Way over priced. We were not asked how the meal was so we ate a little and left. My mum did go to the bar and told the girl that we had not enjoyed our meal and was told sorry. The bar was still full of empty glasses. Will not be visiting again.

Not been here for a while noticed the place had been cleaned and spruced up .The menu has been reduced to just a few dishes ,the pie chips and peas were not good my partner's burger again not good and served on a pink bun a bit odd discovered that this was beetroot bread. Instead of the great proper chips we had last time we were served floppy frozen ones .Despite the cask beer we will not be returning as there are many pubs serving cask beer and great food. We were aware that other diners were dissatisfied and the lovely waitress was apologetic. We did not complain directly as we did not think it would make any difference so we are voting with our feet.

We'd had some really great food there, previously, but hadn't visited for a while, and the kitchen is no longer run by the same people. And, in spite of pizzas being offered on their website, they no longer have a visit from the mobile pizza oven. The menu was limited, but the food was ok (pie chips and peas) but nothing to make a special trip for. The staff were friendly, and of course, the beer was great, but we won't bother visiting again, unless it's just for a quick pint.

Generally not a good first impression. The outside needed sweeping and once inside it looked very tired and in need of a good clean and even a refurbishment. Our visit was to meet friends for a meal, again the menu was in need of a clean and the box for cutlery and condiments was virtually empty. As for our food three of us had the wagu beefburger which was good and the other had lamb shank (from a very small lamb) which should be served with mashed potatoes and veg but they had run out - an alternative was offered and four empty plates were left! On the plus side the staff were very pleasant and attentive but they should have asked the customer with the dog who was wandering around begging at tables where people eating to put him on a lead and under control.

Love, love, love the Coach and Horses. Had a fabulous birthday meal here, it was a cold Tuesday evening ( got to keep the place open) and we were the only diners dining, however the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The food as always was delicious and freshly cooked. Between us we had the Steak pie, Rabbit pie, Salmon, and a pasta linguine, we all cleared our plates. We are regulars in the Coach and Horses and have been for several years and have to pass many other pubs to get to it but this is our favourite bar. We love the staff who are always polite and well informed about the beers they have and this is mainly down to the Manager James who is politeness personified a lovely chap who I feel got a crappy deal from the previous reviewer. We were at the Beer Festival also this weekend and sat at the bar for 3 and a half hours people watching. The place was heaving and even though we are regulars (at least 4 times a week) we still understood the need for having to use plastic glasses. IT'S BUSY PEOPLE...the staff are rushed off their feet and quite frankly where are you the rest of the year? If you took the time to come in on a quiet Wednesday in February and get to know the staff and the regulars you maybe wouldn't feel the need to spout off about the occasional time you do frequent the place. This is primarily a REAL ALE pub and they look after the beer magnificently. It isn't and hasn't been known as a Restaurant and until Thornbridge chuck some money at it, it never will be. But you know what.... that's just how us regulars like it. Keep up the good work James and staff, we love you.

Visited for my wife’s birthday as this restaurant is quite expensive but very nice. Theres a big car park, there’s loads of places to sit in the bar and the restaurant is tidy and clean. Staff were friendly and helpful and they had put a birthday card on the table. Good low alcohol beer selection The food was delicious and attractively presented. My wife had the pigeon and I had the octopus which was a bit over cooked and tasters more like a bratwurst but surprisingly, with the other parts of the dish, tasted really good . We both had venison which was well cooked and good portion of new potatoes and courgette. My wife had the strawberry cheesecake and I had the peach Melba which was an interesting twist on the old favourite with warm peach slices, both dishes were tasty. My wife was given a plate with happy birthday on it with some brownie pieces and fruit and cream which was almost a sweet in itself. Not unique to Red Lion but why do restaurants take so long to bring the card machine? Will go again for another special occasion.
