Food was disgusting, I’m sure it had been cooked the day before and reheated. There was a cleaner with an industrial cleaner washing the carpet while we were eating. The barman said he didn’t know we were coming although they had confirmed the booking online. We weren’t offered a discount after complaining about the food. We will definitely not be back.

First visit here since the change of management and new menu. The place definitely seemed a bit brighter and cleaner than before, and the food we had was good and reasonably priced. We actually came two weeks in a row, second time spur of the moment and hadn't booked anywhere. We had Scampi and chips and chicken Balmoral, both very tasty, and a lovely reasonably priced bottle of wine. Our servers, Caroline and Louis ( I think ) were lovely, so friendly and helpful. It's such a shame it isn't busier, as it does seem to be much improved and deserves more custom.

Visited Lanark this summer, and wanted a dog friendly pub for a quick drink. To say this place is dog friendly is a huge understatement - the staff made me and my spaniel puppy feel really welcome - they offered to cook some chicken goujons for him, which he loved. We returned for lunch the following day. I had an amazing burger and again puppy got some beef for his lunch and also given a takeaway box for him for later. Thank you for being so friendly.

We had the most amazing lunch We all chose either from different starters as a main or from the main menu. Lots of choices. Food was superb and very reasonably priced. The staff were really accommodating, attentive and friendly. They even brought food for my dog free of charge. I wish I could pick this place up and take it back to Kent with me!!! As family live here in Lanark, we will come again What a gem of a place!!!!

My group of four were all extremely pleased with the food and the service. We each had a different dish and every bit was absolutely delicious. The bathrooms definitely need renovating and I'm not sure that anyone with accessibility needs would be able to move around easily. But the food was really wonderful. There was a sign up front that they were under new management, so if you're local perhaps it's a good time to give this place another try!

Returned after my previous bad review and the owner replying saying to give it another go and I’d be entitled to a free drink I’d rather drink someone’s dirty bath water The place is stinking of damp The staff are alright although could do without them smoking at the fire exit n trying to mask the dampness smell with fag reek The toilets are a complete disgrace with no toilet roll or lid and bits falling from the ceiling I honestly couldn’t bring myself to order food as it’s that bad Had a couple of drinks but couldn’t wait to leave It’s needing a complete overhaul There is plaster patches that have been done badly and not painted And the carpets have life forms growing in it The place is a complete pit and absolutely filthy I took a picture of the toilet cause it’s that bad

Had dinner here with friends recently and had a lovely meal. I've seen some bad reviews but unlike an earlier review which was quite frankly rude and defamatory regarding the chef, what we had, chicken with black pudding, flat iron steak, sticky toffee pudding and apple crumble, was all delicious. Couldn't fault the staff either, so friendly and helpful. I don't know if it's different chefs some days or what but we will definitely be back. I agree some areas of the pub are very run down, we were in the closed off bit and it's fine, but pubs are having a hard time these days and unless enough people visit it must be difficult to afford to upgrade. I'll be back to visit soon.

A really good pub, but if your having a party, book somewhere else! Booked for my sisters 30th, and altho the staff were great, whoever the dj is should be replaced. Said he ‘wasnt well’ and proceeded to either sit with his head on the decks, or sit in bar area. We met him while viewing room, and after saying ‘no problem’ and as he wasnt a rock fan and ‘would get someone else to do it’ as was more a ‘cheesy song dj’, and he hated when folk dont ask for songs, we sent a list of specific songs for the birthday girl, one being her ‘last dance song’ and another being her and her fiances special song, to make sure the dj had it and it got played. We were told at 10:30PM!!! he didnt have her song as he only had spotify! (We found it no problem!!!) He played the last song at 11:40pm after being told party would be until midnight, then made a VERY quick exit before we could say anything! The bar staff said would pass it to management but tbh his whole attitude was offputting and found that hardly anyone got up to dance, and were making comments if he was ‘alive’. The fact that pub maybe had about 10-15 folk on drinking, made the party the main source of income that night! Really disappointing and after being big fans of pub, wont be considering the function room for any future events, and would not recommend it to anyone either.

Friendly arrival Seated and offered a drink service with menu Pino Grigio and white coffee ordered and served with food order taken Drinks were good Waited a long while for food Chicken gougons My wife found the chicken full of fat and served with poor quality accessories. Could not eat meal due to poor quality food. Clydesdale Burger Served on a wooden platter I would have preferred a plate The chips looked nice but we’re hard with no taste despite adding salt. The bun was soggy and not eaten The burger itself was quite tasty but overall very poor presentation and quality. We really wanted this to be a place that we could return to for food and beverages but alas we will not be back and could not recommend to others. I now understand why the place was quiet with few others in attendance. Sorry but this place continues to go downhill no matter who is running it.

Staff were nice and pleasant and that’s the only nice thing I can say I’m afraid We ordered a few starters as it’s a new menu n thought we would see what it was like Obviously it’s the menu the chef got taught (badly) in barlinnie The chicken goujons had that much oil on the plate that the Americans were considering invading it The potato skins turned out to be one half a potato covered in cheese and small ham cubes looking like it had been nuked in the microwave or made in Nagasaki during the bombing The prawns were passable as a dish The ham hock terrine was like mush The place is a complete dive now, although the staff were lovely and friendly they sat at the bar while the place is filthy and run down and I’ve been on cleaner building sites It’s up for sale at the moment so hopefully whoever takes it over gets it back to what it once was as it’s a complete dive now with holes in the wall and stinking of dampness

Came here for a family lunch. This place looks a bit run of the mill on first glance, but don't let that put you off getting a delicious meal, at a good price. The staff were super friendly, and made us feel very welcome. Our order was as follows: A pepperoni pizza. Generous sized portion, well cooked. Tasty, and lots of cheese. A classic hot dog. Well presented, topped with LOADS of onions. Lovely soft meat, not chewy as hotdogs can sometimes be. A macaroni cheese. Also a generous portion. Creamy. Topped with breadcrumbs. The chicken beast. This was a little small in portion size, but delicious all the same. Bacon double cheese burger. This was absolutely enormous. Had to be deconstructed to eat, but was very tasty. We'll definitely be back if in the area again.

Attended a zander nation night here on Saturday and it was horrendous to say the least no seating available to people that had bought tickets no one even took the tickets on entry meaning people from the bar downstairs where just walking in and joining the bingo night that we had paid to attend.. At the start of the night I approached a member of bar staff to ask about seating the young girl was pleasant enough and said she wasn’t in charge of seating at this point the manager jamp in from behind accusing me of shouting at staff which couldn’t be further from the truth as the bar maid herself was lovely.. the manger then proceeded to tell me she’s busy and they had sold extra tickets and seating hadn’t yet been put out as she didn’t no there wasn’t enough seating she then told me if I’m not happy she’ll refund me and I can leave no other resolution was offered at this point just that I could have my money back and leave .. I replied that it really isn’t my problem that it’s busy and you haven’t had time I’m just asking for the seat i have paid as the even is due to start .. She then brought up chairs expecting us to participated in a bingo night with no table.. finally we got a table moved to the side of the Dj booth and had to sit under a speaker next to a old sofa that had been turned upside down.. this just isn’t acceptable there was no security present at all throughout the night and the room was packed with people dancing on tables and chairs in a confined space never seen anything as disorganised in my life and the attitude of management was beyond shocking I have since herd from the Dj himself that they had to leave early a previous night as people had been throwing glasses around at people.. avoid at all costs!!

I went into the Clydesdale meet a friend last night only to be told by the staff that the price of a pint of Stella had now reached £3.70. This is the second price increase this year and a pint of Stella has gone up 13.7% in real terms. All the staff here are really friendly and provide an excellent service - ALWAYS! I really cannot understand how any business can justify an increase of this magnitude. Whilst at the bar ordering my drink, I did take into account other customers reaction to the price increases and I felt really sorry for all the bar staff who were dealing with the shock of the customers extremely well. Rachael (the mangeress) and all her staff do a truly wonderful job serving the locals of Lanark and to put nice staff in a difficult position is very unfair. I just wondered if the owners of this chain actually realise that the price of a pint of Stella is now more than in a pub in Central Glasgow!!! I'm a pensioner approaching the age of 80 and on a fixed income and I just wished that my pension rose by 13.7% per annum to cope with these extortionate price increases. Do the owners actually realise that if you walk just over 100 yds from this establishment that people can get a pint of the same beer for 35p less?? This 2nd additional price is not on - sorry. I hope that readers of this review will actually check all my other 84 reviews and see just how positive I normally am. Please also check my last review for the Clydesdale which was also very positive. The staff here are second to none as is the manageress Rachael all of whom do a wonderful job.

True a few more came in as we were about to leave. The Clydesdale name promises a posher experience than its worn interior delivers, but it is above all a proper pub with a fine selection of real ales (better than the Crown Tavern around the corner). The food is standard pub fare, certainly satisfying, and served by the attentive bartenders will inhabit the premises. Abbot Ale seems to be a standard, and it’s a lovely dark, malty ale, the kind that can keep you at bay for the duration. The craft casks rotate with decent frequency, so worth a stop every week.

However, surroundings are awful!I don't understand why they have half decorated - eg the front dining room where they have put up new wallpaper, vile carpet (neither of which remotely go with each other!) but left the old panelling which the paint is peeling off. Looks dreadful! They have not mastered the basics which ironically cost nothing. Everything is sticky - tables, menus etc. Wipe everything down after each use!Pretty oppressive overall!

Been here tonight Sunday and I wouldn't have said it was busy for a Sunday but when we ordered our meal we were told it would be half an hour wait but as they had a new menu we thought ok .After an hours wait we were presented with , what I can only describe as ofal, my homemade beef and ale pie consisted of 3pieces of meat in a stew of potato carrot and celery and the ale , well that must have evaporated , my lashings of gravy came out in a lumpy gloop over my dried out peas and dessert spoon of what I assume was mashed potatoes which resembled the instant potatoe of the 80S SMASH .My partners meal was equally deplorable, but lucky for him his didn't come with gravy !!!We should have clicked earlier as the table both behind and in front of us had spoke to the manager about their meals and you could see she was stressed and apologetic ,I have no faults in the staff they are young and seem to have no knowledge of what they are serving and are run off their feet We witnessed people coming in after us clearing tables away so they can sit down and even when the staff were clearing the tables they never wiped the table down for the next people . To use it being under new management as an excuse is unacceptable if this is your standard then I suggest you quickly rethink your business plan , as people including ourselves are well aware that there plenty eating establishments in Lanark that actually have pride what they serve up to their customers my only regret is that I didn't have my phone so I could actually put a photo up . We actually didn't even finish our drinks as we just wanted out the place so disappointed that it seems that pub grub here is more like grubby pub yuck . NEVER TO RETURN DISGRUNTLED LOCALS

The most artificial tasting of goodness only knows what and the garlic bread was like we dough with the smallest scrapping of garlic in the middle and it was cold. Never again

Decided to pop in for a wee bite to eat and opted for the BBQ Pulled Pork with burger and chips with a coke. At £5.99 I can't complain, excellent value, tasty and filling. No complaints. My daughter had the Sunday Roast with a pint of Lager. As with me,her views were the same and at £6.99,great value. If you want something cheap and cheerful, ideal.

I didn't think the food could get any worse since it was owned by Wetherspoons. Cold reheated chips, tasteless fish, over cooked food. It has had a bit of a paint job but still feels shabby. It's saving grace are the staff who work hard & are friendly & helpful.

Place in desparate need of refurbishment. Everywhere in it old fashioned and felt dirty. Tables were cluttered and covered in crumbs. The carpet looked like it had been hoovered for years. Toilets also dirty. Food was okay but seemed a little over-priced for what you got. Kids sausage and chips was okay. Chicken caesar salad okay. Nachos -stingy with the guacamole and sour cream. Obviously ran out of jalepenos and replaced it with sweet chilli sauce. :-S Sticky toffee pudding was shocking. Dry. Bland. Hardly any sauce. Chocolate fudge cake was also poor. Can buy better out of bakers. Went in for early dinner with kids but all we could hear was locals at the bar area swearing. Overall very poor.

This used to be a Wetherspoons pub and it was bought over. The staff transferred which was a good move as they knew the clientele inside out. A very friendly staff doing an excellent job. A good range of real ales but sadly not such a great range of wines or healthy food!!! The Inn has recently been refurbished by the new owners. It it wasn't a major refurbishment which was a pity as the building is very old and in need of upgrading. The staff make this Inn - friendly and knowledgeable.

I've been here a few times now and always liked it. Great value and very relaxed. Typical wetherspoons type meal and drinks are good value. I really like how they are now introducing music at nights in the top bar as this was the only thing I felt this place needed. Whenever I am out for a couple of drinks I always visit here first and sometimes don't go anywhere else lol.

Visited here for a beer the place has had a decoration but not tastefully .Prices don't seemed to have changed that much but was under staffed who rang last orders at 10.30 and wouldn't serve more after last bell at 10.45 which the 6 /7 punters thought was the last orders bell

Very disappointed with our visit on Thursday. Decided to have the chicken tikka skewers, two pieces of chicken for £4.09 pathetic. The prices for the drinks have all gone up by around 30p (15%). I cannot be certain of the exact rise since there are no prices on display and no price list ( I thought that was a legal requirement) Asked the barmaid what the prices were and she didn't have a clue, I guess that is a symptom of smart tills. Won't be back after using the place for over ten years.

The staff in the Clydesdale are brilliant and that is why I have uprated my review. I go to the Clydesdale a great deal and I speak for a large number of people as I am a local Councillor. I am committed to bring business into Lanark and this is where Hawthorne Leisure are failing to understand their market. The food especially needs to be much better especially the chips , the quality of the steak and there needs to be less emphasis on burgers. The only thing that has improved since the takeover is the curry. Maybe Hawthorne Leisure need to change their supplier. Drinkwise the withdrawal of Doombar Ale is a pity as it was popular also yesterday's dramatic rise in the cost of the beer was not a good idea. The cheapest red wine is really poor quality. The net effect is that the pub is often deserted for example on a Tuesday night. Finally the decision to close the kitchen at 9pm on week nights has not gone down well. Hawthorne Leisure has really got to up its game and concentrate on getting the basics right to make this pub pay like it did in the Wetherspoons days.

Good value for money even though the menu can flatter to deceive at times. But our family often eat in the (rather gloomy!) family area because it doesn't break the bank, and the drinks are the usual JDW selection, all reasonably priced. Parking close by can be a wee bit tricky! The car park is small. But we'll be back.

Under £5 for a lemonade, dark brown, luke warm, greasy chips and a hard chicken burger. The side order of onion rings were noticeably different, freshly fried but they were very greasy and I left most of them uneaten along with most of the chips. My daughter returned her pulled pork and chicken burger as her chips were stale and cold and the chicken was hard (microwaved?) the replacement was hot and fresh however the chicken was again hard. We just left and won't be back. Very disappointing as this used to be a good place for a family lunch. Now home and suffering from indigestion, my usual reaction to greasy food.

Came for dinner with my OH and 2 teenagers. Meals were great and so were the activities for children. Yes my teenagers were having a great time with colouring in. Back to business, the new decor has transformed this place and is so much brighter. Food wise, I have no complaints. Haven't had a bad meal yet. Staff friendly and pleasant. Will be back

Well, for starters, I would strongly suspect that many negative reviews on here are by people who prefer other local pubs or people who are of the fur coat and no knickers variety lol. Wetherspoons leaving Lanark was a blow but the new owners have done well, nice new decor, good value typical pub food and nice selection of ales. Good to see many of the staff retained, many of which are friendly and chatty. Don't know what some people expect! Slight things to improve - better lighting (but keep the character) big curtains for the winter, lose the music, is not needed and maybe an additional stove or two. We regard it as our local and so do friends. Ignore the negative reviews unless you have ideas above your station :)

Cosy, clean, and also very good noise level, which is appreciated by neurodivergent people! The food and drinks are delicious, and there's an amazing range to try. There are a ton of vegetarian and vegan options for food and drink, and a wonderful staff member helped to customise a drink to make it decaf and vegan! The staff are all lovely and helpful, and are so quick at making everything that it's almost surreal. We'll definitely be back!
