Food/staff are always really good. Has a cracking atmosphere on the weekends with some live music and it's a great spot when the sun eventually comes out!

Stopped by at 12pm today for some lunch, it was very quiet when we arrived. My wife and I wanted to sit outside as the weather was beautiful and we had our dog with us, but were told by staff that we could only order from a reduced menu (bar menu) due to low staffing levels (a pitiful excuse that didn’t make sense tbh) but could order from the full menu if we sat inside! Can please explain how this makes a blind bit of difference!? The food is going to be carried out either way?? Decided it wasn’t a friendly welcome and they tried their best to put us off. Went to cosy club instead. The Botanist - you’ve got to do better!!! 🙏

Called in for Sunday roast. Food was lovely, meat arrived - about 10 minutes later vegetables arrived, real poor service, we paid the service charge but disappointed with so many staff standing around doing nothing this shouldn’t happen.

Indifferent service Popped in today around 2.30pm....thought I'd give it a go as I certainly like their restaurant in central Cardiff....not a good experience I'm afraid....the very attractive young lady acting as maitre d was a little abrupt I'm afraid....not quite the friendly welcome I was expecting!....plus they didn't have a chair comfy enough for my wonky back!....was hoping for a couch type seat really....so I left without ordering....never mind.... maybe I'll give it a go some other time....the trials of a (very) amateur critic!

I ordered the famous hanging skewers and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The pork was extremely fatty and the cuts of meat weren’t great at all. Definitely not the quality expected from such a nice venue. It's beautiful inside but the food is such a let down.

me and 7 girls had a 3 course meal, the food was stunning!!!! my favourite was the cheesecake! Was to die for! all the staff were friendly and bubbly and very efficient in making sure we had a lovely evening, definitely recommend!

Lovely setting, food ok, prices fair but if you are lucky enough to have Phoebe to look after you know you are in good hands and will served with consideration and charm.

Lovely atmosphere and great food. Their burgers were very nicely cooked and well-presented, as was the kebab. Special mention to our waiter, Darcie, who was attentive, polite and enhanced our evening overall.

We called into the Botonist on a weekday night for a work catch up. My colleagues were familiar with the place and recommended numerous items from the menu. I'm a pescatarian and there were lots of options that sounded appealing. The decor is lovely, albeit our corner was a little dark to read the menu. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff very attentive. My colleagues made the mistake of ordering too many starters and as such had to cancel their mains. Lily was incredibly kind about this and it caused no issues. Overall we had a pleasant experience and I would recommend it to anyone in the Cardiff Bay area.

We all enjoyed the evening and the food. Service was lovely and friendly but long intervals between courses. Maybe because we were a bigger group of 9. Delighted to catch happy hour.

Had lunch there, £7.95 and £1.50 for fries. Chose of kebabs with dip, humas and pitta bread. Lovely. Lovely view over the bay, plesent music. Highly recommend. The belly pork kebab to die for.

Fabulous location, views, decor. The staff were so cheerful, friendly and helpfull. Its the first time i've ordered a chicken curry and the chicked arrives in a batter. I dont care for deep fried, battered, food so they lost a star for not calling this idiosynchracy out on the menu.

Fantastic meal tonight celebrating my wife's birthday. Food was on par, service was great. Excellent customer service from everyone. First time we had been but it won't be the last. Worth every penny, we'll done the Botonist

Absolutely no complaints on the food, it was incredible. However the service at this restaurant is abysmal. Such a far difference from botanist in Cardiff city center. Just could not get anyone to serve us.. nobody asked how the food was, were there for 1.5 hours (2 people ) and managed starter and main simply because we couldn't get anyone to see to us. Asked for a dessert menu twice waited 20 solid minutes and still didn't come. Sat with empty plates and no drinks the entire time and not one server took initiative to see to us. We decided to leave without dessert or anymore drinks because we were actually tired of waiting. Staff hanging around chatting and not looking around the restaurant to check tables. Really disappointing experience and wouldn't come again.

Delicious food. Beautiful environment. Staff so helpful and friendly! Nothing was too big a request :) Had live entertainment which was lovely. Tiny bit loud was a bit hard to chat which eating. But will 100% recommend! :)

Very spacious and cozy atmosphere. We got the sharing hanging kebab. Was definitely worth it. Our selection was lamb, chicken and pork belly. The chicken was just chicken, quite plain and dry. The lamb was lovely, soft and well seasoned. The pork belly had a great texture and was near fall apart softness. The chips were well cooked with a nice crunchy. Coleslaw tastes very good and well seasoned. We got coke from the bar and they come in large pint glasses with not a slice of lemon but a wedge, it was big. Would come again.

Nice, but £7.25 for a Thatcher's Katy is a bit steep!

Callum was excellent all evening, not only did he provide excellent recommendations on drinks but also as tourists gave us an excellent insight into the best places to see in Cardiff.

Soooooo disappointed, even though it had been booked with wheelchair access and we had phoned to double check this would be sorted, when we arrived half our party went in and me my daughter in law and my wheelchair bound grandson had to access it from outside. When we arrived our party was sat at a table 4 steps down and completely inaccessible. This is so so so not acceptable. This was my grandsons 16th birthday meal with friends. How sad and embarrassing for us all. The staff did find us a table but more luck than good judgement. Hardly any apologies or help. Just not good enough. I can't fault the food or service but such a bad start. Botonist you really should do better.

Excellent, attentive service with a lovely atmosphere as decked out with loads of Christmas decorations. However, I left disappointed with the 2 course Christmas Set menu. The only option for Starters was a sharing platter for the table and nothing was suitable for vegetarians/vegans except a little pitta bread and some hummus. Main course was lovely but I would not recommend the Christmas Set Menu for vegetarians/vegans.

Can't say I enjoyed the food at all. Cold and not very tasty. Should have asked for it to be sent back but I was with a work do. Atmosphere was nice though

If the service was any slower I'd still be waiting for drinks and food. Fairly standard Botanist, good tasty mocktails well presented food but the staff really did let the experience down. The person on the door was cold and standoffish the bar staff so slow they had glaciers building at their feet. It was quite peaceful the music was a reasonable volume and the other patrons were having conversations at a courteous volume... and then a group of women arrived, the volume of the music was ramped up and the screeching got louder and louder, All in all a very mediocre express from an otherwise good chain.

Amazing atmosphere, great food, impressed with how fast and efficient the service was. Glad I gave it a go, really recommend!

Visited for the second time for a birthday food was good however service was slow this probably due to it being busy.

Fantastic visit! Really friendly and happy staff who were knowledgeable and ready to share recommendations. Clean and comfy inside with a lovely view outside. It all felt well kept, and the bathrooms were clean and well stocked - this is definitely not always the case in a venue like this so it really stood out to me. Would wholeheartedly recommend, and I will definitely return next time I am in Cardiff. Thank you to the Botanist team!

Sorry but I’ve got better food from weather spoons down the road on the next night . Food come out cold , steaks cold but on the second attempt they got it right ..

Went here as a group on Sunday to celebrate a birthday. There were a lot of things from the menu unavailable including Sunday dinner which most of the party wanted. 6 out of 8 peoples meals had something wrong, there were items on our bill that we never had. When it was time to pay the bill their systems were down so we were unable to pay and as a result missed the last train home. Overall really bad experience.

Great service, divine food, and great value for money

We had an amazing time at the Bonatist! The food was incredible—especially the roast dinner—and the botanical cocktails perfectly matched. The restaurant’s interior is stunning and adds to the whole vibe. Our waitress was super friendly and made our meal even better with her helpful recommendations. To make the night extra special, the bartender surprised us with free drinks to celebrate a birthday, which was such a nice touch. Between the great service, delicious food, and creative cocktails, we had a fantastic time. Can’t wait to go back! Highly recommend!

You can eat well and make them here. Good cocktails. From there you have a wonderful view of the harbor from above.

Funky atmosphere and place. Live music and really friendly staff. Food menu has a nice selection. Calamari was cooked well not overdone, hanging kebabs sharer good options for couple. Massive selection of cocktails the plant pot was a favourite. Food menu isn't overpriced. If it had some deals on the cocktails in the evening would have been a 5 star as it adds up very quickly at nearly tenner a drink and these consist mostly of ice. Overall had a really good night there but left for cheaper drinks to continue night out.

Four of us had equally delicious meals here, I had their Korean salad for a change which I absolutely loved. The other 3 had a mix of meat kebabs, and they all enjoyed. I've never had a bad cocktail at a Botanist, I always want to drink 10 of them but usually stick to 2! We had a nice walk here, the views are lovely and the staff are great. Only negative from me is the toilets weren't clean, and there was next to no toilet roll or hand soap.

Not impressed at all! Me and my boyfriend went with his family to the botanist Cardiff bay last night for dinner. We both ordered the giant piri piri chicken skewer. Ours came out first which was suprising but as I was cutting and eating the chicken it felt like it was still raw and then when we put a torch to it it was completely pink same with my boyfriends one too. He had already eaten about half of his and I had eaten about 2 or 3 pieces. Once we told a member of staff they took it away and brought a new skewer however they didn’t take anything of the bill and now today both me and my boyfriend have been very nauseous and sick! I can’t believe this happened especially in a well known restaurant! I am very disappointed!!!

I love the hanging kebabs. I had the halloumi one. It's just quite dark inside so hard to read menus and very noisy. Music was so loud we couldn't have a conversation.

Wanted to say huuuuge! thank you to Botanist Cardiff Bay team for accommodating our query regarding hosting baby shower here this Saturday gone. Team has been super helpful both over the emails, phone and in person. They kindly allocate our group a couple big tables in a quiet but pretty section of the restaurant, allowed us to put up some decorations, and have been super hospitable. This special event for our friend due to have a baby couldn’t have been made more special without Botanist being so supportive. She had a blast and said it was more than she would have ever expected! Special shout out to our kind and patient waitress (tall dark haired girl with glasses) and duty manager (lady was wearing a while dress, and I believe she had light brown/red-ish hair) 🫶

Visited about lunchtime and was I was on the balcony. I wanted to order drinks and I was told it could take 15 minutes to be served or I had to go downstairs to get the drinks. It was not easy balancing the drinks and walking up the stairs. However, it's a very nice venue and the live music was also nice. Think I will visit again to see more of the place

A warm welcome from staff. Bright and clean. A very nice meal, I had a very tender Sirloin Steak cooked just the way I like it, my husband had Sea Bass which he said was the best he had tasted for a long time. The location is good as it is situated in Cardiff Bay.

Great food ,extremely poor poor sevice .Party of 7 called today and booked table for 12:00.was told it was upstairs .after struggling with double buggy as staff stood ,talked and just watched, we were told our table was at the back of the area ,this was down 3/4 steps .When I stated to a male member of staff how was I to get there. .just shrugged shoulders and said ^cant you manage and looked blank ,after no help my son and I carried it passed the watching/talking 6 servers including manager to our table. We were the only people there then ,after waiting 10 mins, had to ask for drinks, then after ordering waited 30 mins for them to arrive ,this after a further 3 times asking where they were. By the time they arrived our food was brought out first, this was only after a 3/4 of the place now full all being served first .I was all for walking out but my son stated it was my wifes birthday. This ruined the whole day ,of what should have been a lovely day. After bill arrived (jokingly with service charge added ,not one person seemed bothered at this service including the manager who was there when we complained x3 about the service...honestly first and last time we will enter this appalling establishment. p.s same routine on the way out with no help whatsoever

Fantastic theme, but sadly thats where the praise ends!! We were shown to our table and ordered drinks which didnt materialise untill i physically hunted down a very nice waitress. This could easily be forgiven, but sadly things got worse. We ordered a sharing kebab which frankly was diabolical, the meat was extremely dry and chewy and we could have cooked better ourselves on our bbq. Is it possible to ruin fries? Well yes it is in this restaurant, like bullets and inedible!!! Better quality of food in Burger King !!

Party of 3 kid/babies in prams,5 adults shown upstairs, struggled to get double buggy through doors as staff all 6 watched us ,I then opened double doors to be meet steps, asked male young server about getting down steps to which he sarcastically said ,cant you get down there and walked away ,my son and lifted the prams down as all staff stood around till talking/laughing .At the time of entering we were the only ones there .After 10 mins had to ask if we could have a drink!! 10mins later asked if we could order!!Drinks arrived 30 mins later after asking x3 including lady in charge about them ,in fact food came first, could go on ...same probs leaving etc. food 7/10 attmos..6/10..sevice 0/10..profesionalism 0/10..Dont expect a reply as I did take the time to contact them ..twice and they said they would like to discuss etc ,leave contact there email...guess what nothing even there management cant reply ..no wonder there service is so sloppy

Great location right in the heart of the beautiful Cardiff bay. I was so looking forward to trying this restaurant after eating at the Botanist in Bath which is superb. Unfortunately this was not the case here. The service was awful (very under staffed) we waited 30 mins for drinks, an hour for our starters, of which one had to be sent back as cold. The main meal was very disappointing for the price paid. Our table of four all agreed that we won’t ever be returning.

Table was booked at 7:30pm, we didn’t get out until 10:35pm due to our order just not being taken unless we went up ourselves to ask someone to come serve us at the table, food took well over an hour to come, the table did not get cleared until 9:50pm and we had to again ask somebody to come over to take our desert order, I’m not sure if our table was forgotten about or nobody got assigned to it, but it’s not a cheap restaurant so would rather not be paying around £100 to be sat around for 3 hours waiting and having to get up and ask someone to come over every time we wanted to order a drink / food

Expresso Martini's were delicious

Poor customer service from this company. We have contacted them four times now as when we checked our credit card statement they had taken nearly three times the bill amount out of our account. No explanation, no apology. They said we would receive the money they owed us within 2 weeks. This has not happened . Given up on them now, we will claim through our credit card company and will never go back to the botanist again.

Service was great, quality of the food wasn’t so great. Pitta bread was rock hard, and the halloumi skewer was awful. Had no time to make a fuss and complain as we had reservations elsewhere and didn’t have time to wait around.

The staff were lovely and the menu is decent enough (limited though). They have a lot of fake Ivy, everywhere (a lot). The music was live and overall it was fun.

Really lovely restaurant with great decor and more importantly great food and a great atmosphere, everything we ordered was tasty and arrived very quickly. Service was brilliant and can't wait to return to try more of the menu!

We were looking for somewhere to have a glass of wine and some nibbles and we are glad we chose the Botanist in Cardiff Bay. It was lovely and quiet but it was Tuesday afternoon. We had a lovely seat by the open windows. The atmosphere was relaxed. The Mezze board was delicious and good value. Glasses of wine are pricey but they are in many places at the moment.

Lovely atmosphere and delicious starters, however, the mains lack flavour and aren’t worth the price.

Good food but on the pricey side. 2 courses and 2 soft drinks came to £75. Staff friendly and helpful.

If you love frozen chunky chips like Tesco sell then this is the place to be, fish was ok, minted peas lovely, chunky chips 🤮 Madri was a nice pint 👍

Not great. I booked a table for a hen party 6 months ago. I requested a long table for all the guests to sit together and when we arrived on Saturday there was no table ready for us. It left the Bride to be disappointed as this was the second venue that was booked for the hen because she wanted cocktails at your bar. But once we arrived we were told there was no seating and they offered us 2 separate tables and then said they would push them together. This was not what I asked for. Very disappointing.

Just been to the bar, had to wait 15 and on our turn was met with a bar man fumbling with his hair and rubbing his nose. No thank you!!! Vile !!! Left

I have been to the Cardiff Bay Botanist twice. The first time we were sat on the worst table by the aisle, and people were literally touching me as they passed. We asked if we could change tables, they said ok initially, and after we moved to a new one they asked us to go back. How textbook terrible customer service was that? Food and service were ok after that, but I was not happy with the initial interaction with the staff. The second time I went there was yesterday. We arrived and sat on our table at 8.10. We had movie reservation at 9.45. We had to ask the waitress to take our order at 8.30, nobody addressed us until then. 40 minutes later we had to ask if everything is ok with our order, at around 9.10. The food arrived 3 minutes after we asked, and 3 out of the 4 plates arrived at the table with cold fries. Absolutely abysmal customer service. 10% tip was included in the bill, which we had to ask to be removed. I do always tip, but I felt that even the money spent on the food were a waste. Bottom line, decent food when it is warm, nice atmosphere, terrible customer service. Too bad as it is a decent looking restaurant.

Lovely setting and food presentation was really good… 6 of us (3 adults & 3 children) were looking forward to trying somewhere different, service was extremely slow! We were only offered 1 drink the 3 hours we were there, the rest we had to ask for, and didn’t get all of the drinks we asked for! Waiting well over 30 mins between each course and the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy. The pork kebab was well overcooked. We only ordered 1 dessert which took almost 40 mins to arrive. Staff didn’t seem to care. Wouldn’t rush back.

The restaurant was really pretty. The service was non existent. Couldn’t get order drink . We had 2 course that took 3 hours. The salt and pepper pork kebabs were burnt. I am diabetic and I asked the waitress if my dinner was sweet as I’m diabetic and she said no . But they were . Terrible experience Never again

I’ve thought a lot about giving three stars as my rating because al though the food was amazing (we had the sharing kebab dish) an the service we received by our young waitress was lovely my over all experience wasn’t up to much because of certain points one being we were seated at the top of the stairs right at the end of the busy kitchen area an people coming up the stairs to be seated which was very overwhelming I did ask a passing waiter if we could be seated else where as I was uncomfortable with my seat but it was taken the wrong way an I was bought another chair instead and if I’m honest that made me feel even more uncomfortable didn’t stay for dessert because being totally honest I couldn’t wait to get out of there

Service was good, drinks were lovely, starters were lovely and nice atmosphere however the chicken was dry and the steak chewy. Also the bathrooms on both floors were in a state. We reported this to the staff however during the time we were there, this was not rectified and we were brushed off which was disappointing. I would think twice before returning unfortunately.
