The Club House in Plymouth

Now closed down. A shame, but this was always a patchy experience. One day it would be excellent, then you'd visit a week later and it would be terrible. Very inconsistent which probably lead to its downfall.

We were seated down fairly quickly and given our menus. We chose a nice glass of rose and we had the sharer kebabs. This came with 3 skewers - halloumi, chicken and lamb. They were all lovely although I felt the chicken kebab didn’t taste of much! We upgraded our fries to the sweet chilli fries which were so tasty! I think they had honey on them too, it went so well. Coleslaw was lovely too and it came with 1 pitta. Shame a sharer dish for 2 didn’t come with 2 pittas. I would recommend!

I don't think the interior was changed from when this was a different restaurant a few years back. It's cavernous and totally lacking in atmosphere. This restaurant's menu offers one of the smallest list of items I've ever seen and yet, on both of our visits, they weren't able to offer items from the menu. The food was OK but not brilliant. I don't think 4 oxo-cube size pieces of pork belly on a skewer (with peppers and onions) represents value for money. Apart from the chips it came with as standard, there was little in the way of "extras" to choose from, e.g. no sweetcorn. mushrooms, tomatoes etc Been there, tried it, won't be going back

We were a group of 8 friends who visited on a Friday evening. Great location, very picturesque around the harbour. Food was delicious, we had the hanging kebabs, generous portions, very tasty. Impressive, would recommend.

I have eaten a few times here as I love the food and the atmosphere, unfortunately most of the times I have visited the items I want on the menu have sold out. Working in hospitality myself there should not be shortage of any items on the menu especially early evenings before it is even busy. I booked a table for myself and my partner for the Sunday lunch yesterday as last time it was absolutely amazing, only to be told when we had arrived the Sunday roast had sold out. I was very disappointed as this was the only reason why I had booked and this led me to not eating here and only having drinks.

I went to The Clubhouse on a Sunday for a Roast with friends. We were served by the young waiter, Jack. His service was impeccable, really friendly and was great at recommending items on the menu for us. He was very attentive even though the restaurant was clearly busy but he handled our additional requests with ease and with a smile. I really feel that he deserves some recognition for this, and a big thank you as he went above and beyond and it is so refreshing to have this kind of service. Delicious food and great experience overall! I have been here before for nice cocktails too. We will definitely be returning.

This place is in a great position on the Royal William Yard. On its website the hanging kebabs look great. However tonight was not a good experience. The poor delightful waitress Becky was serving all ten occupied tables on her own. I watched her in admiration as she scurried frantically from one table to the next. It took nearly fifteen minutes to get to me so I could order a drink. The hanging chicken kebabs when they finally arrived were disappointing. The chicken was hard and dry in places and the mushrooms were full of water.

Amazing food !! The amaretto sours made by Sonny was proper. Highly recommended the club house for any event. The atmosphere and live music was lovely.

We were seated at our table on time and we were looked after by Jack who was an excellent waiter. He was knowledgeable, friendly and great at his job. We spent a few hours at our table being served by Jack and he looked after us very well, especially considering how busy it was when we first arrived. He made our experience very pleasurable. Beautiful roast dinner as ever ! Served by the charming Freddie who was engaging polite and all round lovely guy. Keep eating the coco pops

The service was really good. Had a roast pork belly dinner followed by a raspberry tart desert and my friend had roast beef dinner followed by a cookie dough desert. The roast dinner was really good and most certainly one of the better ones I have had in Plymouth. We were served by Freddie and Nic who were really professional and made us feel really welcome.

We arrived to the restaurant on Friday evening at 8pm and asked to be seated in the bar as we had brought our dog (only trying to be considerate of other tables). We were told this was fine but there is no table service for tables in the bar so we would have to go to the bar to order, which we agreed to do. When we headed to the bar to make our order we were then told due to there being no table service for bar tables this meant we were not able to have separate courses and everything had to be brought out at once. We decided at this point to only have starters, which we enjoyed. After finishing these we decided we had not eaten enough so would order some mains. When we then headed back to the bar at 8.56pm, after a 3 minute wait, now 8.59pm were told the kitchen closed at 9pm. We explained that it was one minute to, to which the supervisor/manager said actually the kitchen closed at 8.30pm. It feels as if we were treated very differently for choosing to sit in a different area despite the food and drink prices being the same as restaurant tables. Upon further conversation with the supervisor/manager he explained the kitchen just closes when it is quiet so no set time and asked whether we would expect staff to go to every table and tell them the kitchen was closing. We would of course not expect this but when you are able to book tables for 9pm you would expect to be told if the kitchen was closing earlier than usual upon arrival at 8pm. As residents of the Royal William Yard who often eat the Clubhouse, we will definitely consider other options before eating here again, especially of an evening!

Went for Sunday roast with my wife and our dog Friendly staff but serving staff didn’t know what beers were on tap - guessed and got it wrong. We were told the wine my wife wanted was out of stock, so picked another, but then given the original choice. The food was just about OK but won’t be returning for the roast again - flat Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes not great and the gravy had a strange aftertaste.
