First time visiting here. Greeted by friendly staff. Food was all popping hot when it arrived. Large portions. Will definitely be going back.

Amazing food, fantastic service

Absolutely fantastic. Beautiful Indian food. We all had the mild dishes....Korma and Mogul. Nice thick sauce with the chicken...perfect to dip Peshwari Naan bread ! Would definitely recommend a visit.

The food was absolutely delicious.

Really great food, we used order from here a long time ago and forgot about it after moving. Someone recommended it and we gave it a go as we realised they deliver to us via just eat - just as good as we remembered! Will be ordering again!

His staff are immaculate, and when watching them work as I waited, they really prove why this is the best Indian restaurant: they don’t rush their customers. The decor is pretty and clean. My first visit was at the beginning of the week when I collected a takeaway. I was impressed with every aspect: the welcome and helpfulness, the cleanliness, and most of all the food…I’ve travelled a lot and the food was fragrant, generous, perfectly spiced, in fact authentic and masterly. I was knocked out. Returned at the end of the week with a friend to eat in, much busier, but perfect service, spotless white cloths, excellent menu, waited a little longer for the food but it’s a popular and busy place and perfectly acceptable unless you want “instant”. in which case go elsewhere. There was the same attention to detail with the food which was fresh and piping hot. and delicious. Well done team and praise to the chefs.

No 1 for Indian food for miles around. Ali and team provide fantastic service every time. Very welcoming for families. We’ve been coming for years and will keep doing so

The delivery driver was extremely rude as we didn’t hear the doorbell and it took us a whole 2 minutes to answer

Disappointed! Used to be my favourite Indian takeaway but gone downhill. Preordered for opening time £40 worth of food. Poppadoms and onion bhajis were stale and clearly not cooked fresh. Quality okay but nothing that blows us away anymore.

This restaurant has an expansive menu with many delicious food options and outstanding service! We will definitely be returning!

Firstly I have to say that my visit was early on a Monday evening so it was quiet hence the atmosphere review! Dispite the above, and being a lone diner, I was enthusiastically welcomed and shown to my table. Looking around the restaurant was bright, airy and smart.Beer and poppadoms arrived promptly to keep me happy whilst I perused the menu. A lot of 'different' dishes in the specials section which made choosing fun. I settled for chun chun lamb with aloo gobi and pilau rice. This was all served piping hot and the lamb was truly delicious, butter soft and packed with flavor! The food was some of the very best I've had and completed by attentive and friendly service from both my waiter and the'boss'. They obviously care alot about what they do and it shows. Well done Shapla, I'll be back!

This is a super restaurant. We have eaten in the restaurant and had takeaways from Shapla. The staff are always very friendly, cheerful and polite. Ali the owner is always very welcoming and we love visiting the restaurant. We had a takeaway with our son and daughter in law who live locally and it was the usual very high standard of food, always fantastic quality and so tasty. We always look forward to have an indian from Shapla, just wish they had a restaurant near Sidmouth.

food was very late. I rang them up to see where it was and it was apparent they'd forgotten to even start cooking it. HOWEVER. food was very nice when it did turn up

Attentive service and food is absolutely great.

The food was excellent. The service was poor at best. Their focus seems to be more on takeaway than the people in the restaurant. We would of had more to eat and drink if we could of got served. 30 minutes after asking for the bill with no response, We went to the till and asked to pay.

The food is lovely. The restaurant is diabolical. Such long waits. Have come here a few times and it’s always the same. Just eat comes first. Shouldn’t be a restaurant.

Had a home delivery thought we try them out. Delivered on time and it was hot. Best curry I’ve had so far glad I tried them. Will now use them all the time

The curry and rice was nice but £6 for 1 small breaded prawn which was very average, a little disappointing

On entering I was welcomed by the pleasant staff who showed me to my table. This restawasbestablisged in 1999. Drinks menu was a wide variety and the chilled magners was refreshing. Poppadoms and a variety of dips kick started the evening. Very generous portions. A mixed platter was the choice of my starter and it came with salad and was excellent in taste and presentation. Again portions plentiful. For my mains I had the Raj Biriyani and came in a large plate with a madras vegetable sauce again plentiful. Staff were very welcoming by ensuring everything ok and thisbwas reassuring and shows customer experience care and attention. We couldn't eat all of it, so takeaway boxes were at hand to have again. I would thoroughly recommend Shapla, an award winning Restaurant that excels in top class food and service. Will definitely visit again and a huge thank you to the owner and staff.

Popped in to collect my online order - staff were immediately attentive and super friendly, even though I was in there for only 5 seconds max. A gentleman who I assumed was the manager (he had that kind of confidence about him) handed me my order which was piping hot and so neatly packed. Back at home, absolutely delighted to find the food was just delicious. I was expecting another sub-par curry house (Plymouth isn't exactly a food mecca...) but it was nothing like that. We had sag aloo, veg madras, veg masala and a few chapatti to soak it all up. Complimentary poppadums and dips just made it even better. Will definitely be going in for a sit down dinner next time. Namaste.

Lovely food. The delivery driver (8th Jan 2024) was really nice and friendly- made a pleasant change to the usual person who doesn’t even speak or smile.

Friendly staff etc. The onion bhajis were sitting in grease, my chicken tikka balti was full of water in the bottom of the bowl making my rice soggy. Chicken tikka masala was nice though.

Cannot fault Shapla the food was amazing, however it took over 2 hours to arrive after ordering and was over an hour late, i called the restaurant and they apologised and said they'd put in a bottle of prosecco as an apology i did not receive the prosecco

The bhajis were swimming in grease and my balti once I spooned half out of the container onto my rice was full of water and the chicken was tough. Apparently the masala was ok though.

Food was warm rather than the usual piping hot but all the same very delicious and tasty the best curry in Plymouth . Was about 20 mins late but it was sat night , still my go to place.

Forgot to include naan bread that was ordered and paid for. Not a large order so I don’t know how this happened

Whilst staying with relatives we decided to have a takeaway from this restaurant. As we were not far we collected it, also we know it would be nice and hot when we got home. Food was very good and the portions are a very good size almost too much. Appreciated the complimentary popadums and dip..very tasty. Overall I would recommend this place and would order from here every time when we visit the area again.

Delivery was only slightly late, probably because of all the tragic lights around this area. Food was delicious, best Indian I've ever had so worth the wait. Food nice and hot and plenty of it.

Placed order at 5:45 for delivery at 8pm. Called at 8:15 to be told it would be 20 mins. Called back after 20 mins to be told it would be another 15 mins. Finally arrived at 9:10. What's the point of pre-ordering?? Food was ok. The lamb was very tough and two of the curries tasted almost identical. Gave us a free bottle of wine to make up for the delay but I don't think we'll be ordering again on a Saturday night.

Ordered at 6:10 arrived at 8:50. We called the restaurant at 8:30 to complain. They hung up after I explained. Thought it may be accident so called back three times and as soon as I spoke they hung up. Food was really poor, the meat was dry and tough and the rice and Bombay potatoes had no flavour. We left most of our meals. A real shame as we have offered from here before and it was lovely. Won’t be ordering again.

We ordered our first and last meal from Shapla this evening. Two king prawn mains, some pilau rice, a couple of sides and the obligatory onion bhaji. £50 in total, which is about average, price-wise. Unfortunately, each dish was bland and the rice and bhaji were so dry as to make them impossible to eat. We (my husband and me) managed to get half way through our respective meals before giving up and throwing the rest in the kitchen bin. We've had Indian cuisine in many places all over the world, but this, without a doubt, was the most forgettable, uninspiring and flavourless meal we've ever had.

Love it, best curry in plymouth and they always cook to my dietary requirement which is awesome! Most curry houses refuse to do a dairy free curry for me!

The order arrived, but one of the dishes had a foreign object in it. It has some silver paper in the meal - Prawn Korma. Put me off it and didn’t eat the rest.

After a long journey we decided to order a takeaway but I ordered the wrong item, which was only discovered on delivery when I thought I'd been sent the wrong food! After a quick call, they resent the correct item to me with no fuss.....it really made me smile after a hard day! Thank you

Hour late. Starter was dry and missing the salad that comes with it. Not enough condiments like we usually get with this starter either. Very disappointed.

Absolutely perfect! I called before ordering to check whether some of the options could be made vegan. The staff were so knowlegable and helpful and said it was absolutely fine to do this! It is rare you find a restaurant with so much knowledge and willing to help! Will definitely order regularly now.on too of this - the food was superb!

But sadly tonight after calling to see if i could collect as wait time was so long they agreed. on arrival i was given someone else’s order and then told mine was out for delivery. i returned home and received my delivery only for the chicken chaat to be so salty i couldn’t even swallow it. i has poured my curry on top so nothing was edible and to be told ‘it’s not my fault’ on the phone was

The best curry I have had since leaving Manchester to live in Devon 14 years ago . Everything was freshly cooked , all dishes were not from the same sause and they left the poppadoms on the table , so we could cleanse the pallet during the meal . Excellent service to match , we will definitely return next time we are in the area
