We had dinner here early September, it was a Wednesday, and the restaurant was not busy. Service was very attentive and had good knowledge about the dishes. We had the scallops with a cauliflower purée and mussels in a dill and cream sauce. The purée was amazing. However the mussels had not been fully cleaned and had grit in a third of them. We had the same mains, grilled mackerel with a sauce vierge. Which was lovely, I enjoyed the tomatoes as they were only cut in half but my wife is a purest so would a preferred diced. A lovely view as the sun set. I can imagine that in the heights of summer it’s packed.

What a great find - we were killing time waiting for our holiday let to be ready so we wandered down to the beach at West Bexington and discovered the sister restaurant to the more well known Hive Beach Cafe at Burton Bradstock. We were not disappointed. The service was lovely with genuinely friendly staff. The place welcomes dogs although we sat outside on the terrace with a lovely view of the sea anyway. All of the food coming out of the kitchen looked really good and ours certainly was - the menu has a good choice for all tastes. I ordered a side dish of corn ribs and it was so good I can’t stop thinking about it!! I came straight home after our weekend and have already spent 2 days trying to recreate it - who knew you could get so excited by a vegetable!! I’m hoping they might ready this review and share with me the secret to their spice mix!!

Nestled along the picturesque Dorchester coast, The Clubhouse offers a dining experience that perfectly complements its stunning seaside setting. Having frequented this charming area numerous times, we finally decided to try The Clubhouse, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome, setting the tone for the rest of our visit. The attentive staff promptly seated us and brought menus and water to the table. Our orders for drinks and food were taken swiftly, showcasing the restaurant’s efficient service. For our meal, we chose the classic Cod and Chips with mushy peas. The anticipation did not last long, as our plates arrived quickly, laden with generous portions of perfectly cooked fish and golden chips. The cod was tender and flaky, encased in a crisp, flavorful batter, while the chips were deliciously crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The accompanying mushy peas added a traditional touch that completed this delightful dish. The dining experience was elevated by the beautiful setting. Overlooking the beach, The Clubhouse offers breathtaking views that enhance the enjoyment of the meal. We were fortunate to have perfect weather, making our lunch even more memorable. The Clubhouse is a must-visit for anyone in the Dorchester area. With its excellent food, outstanding service, and idyllic location, it provides a perfect spot for a lovely lunch by the sea. We highly recommend it and look forward to our next visit.

The menu is very small with only 5 main courses. I chose the Lobster thinking it must be very good as it's a speciality. It was very disappointing. Small portion and poorly presented on top of a large green salad and piles of chips. The lobster cost 80 pounds. It had the strangest of texture as if it was minced and placed back in the shell. I wrote an email to the restaurant before deciding to write this review. They did show the curtesy to reply.

Decided to stop for lunch as I had been to W Bexington before and knew it was a lovely location. I received a warm welcome, was quickly shown to a seat of m. y choice, water and menu brought. I had the steak followed by the chocolate cremeux. The chargrilled steak was between medium and rare exactly as I asked, and was absolutely delicious, accompanied by skinny fries, watercress, celeriac puree and sauce vierge. One of the best steaks I have ever had. Was politely asked if all ok, plate cleared and dessert ordered and brought quickly. Again, the dessert was absolutely lovely. The price is very fair for the standard of food, all 3 staff members who helped me were friendly and polite, would love to visit again and highly recommend.

Cocktail overlooking beach and sea, and if lucky a warm eve....then inside for foodies! Fish on menu, the choice of the lady that never says no to that (this time in the form of mackerel pate start and mussels main).....I calmed it down with Crayfish salad start, Bavette Steak mains, all served with excellent hospitality and smiling staff faces. Went for a themed The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe evening. The warm welcome and professional service was matched, nay exceeded, by the incredible food produced by Chef Will Hickton. From his home-made stout bread with incredible whipped smoked butter all the way through to the choc-tastic petit fours, this was an amazing meal. Ham and leek croquettes were a taste explosion, venison that melted in your mouth, succulent trout, and the 30-layer potato (looked like an enormous chip but tasted amazing), everything was a delight. The wine pairings were spot on (thanks Fefe). Then the desserts! My companions were more than satisfied with their tartes tatins, and the Turkish Delight cheesecake was one of the best I've ever had...if a little rich!! It truly was a fantastic experience, roll on the next one!

We had been together for a registry wedding in Dorchester and decided to travel down Chesil beach. My wife and I had been to the Club House once before and had enjoyed the experience, so suggested to the others, that we stop off for lunch on the off chance 1. It was open and 2. If we could get a table. Happily both were available. We were greeted by a lovely lady who recommended a table overlooking the sea. To our delight they had a set menu, 2 courses for £20 or 3 for £25. Their drinks menu was extensive and we chose some celebratory cocktails a G&T and a lovely glass of wine. For starters we had 2 plates of cornish sardines, delicious, the trout, beautifully presented and equally delicious, and a salad. For mains 3 of us had the Fish and Chips done in more of a tempura batter, than a traditional batter, which made it light and crispy, without taking anything away from the fish itself. It was served with a lovely tartare sauce that one said may have been a little light on the amount of capers, but personally I found fine. The final plate was a monkfish burger for myself. Due to the fact that we were also having dinner elsewhere, that night, I didn't eat all the bread which was lovely with a beetroot sauce. Then the special touch. Having announced that our friends were newly married, the staff and Chef had arranged for a plate to be decorated with a chocolate 'Congratulations ' and two dessert snacks. I can't fault anything with the staff or food, and also must give a special mention to the wonderful toilet facilities. Thank you for the experience. We will be back as soon as practical. We only live an hour or so away. Highly Recommended

The smoked haddock on the nicoise salad was superb and I had crab with garden peas. Two of my favourite things in a simple yet delicious salad. My friend and I both had the chocolate mousse with cherries hazelnut and kirsch syrup and a warm buttery madeleine. The best dessert I’ve had in some time. Wonderful. Why take bookings when you don’t have staff and are not ready? Apparently they lost staff because of COVID and Brexit. At least make this known to your guests before they arrive. We were given a table in a closed off ramshackle tent despite warm summer air and plenty of outside space available. You are then expected to spend your dinner looking across a parking lot with people sitting at close proximity. Poor quality furniture and decorations. Fish and chips for over £20 is the new reality. In the end we never managed to get starters or sides despite waiting for 45 minutes, so we left.

It looked fantastic, and the food and drink lived up to appearances. The very hospitable staff couldn’t have been friendlier. Even though it was lunchtime, and we only wanted drinks, we were warmly welcomed, and led to a great swing-for-two in the garden, with great views.Once seated, we realised we were peckish, so asked for a food menu. Not a problem. And pretty soon, a scrummy cheese platter was delivered, with two refreshing beers. The gardens are full of chic and quirky details. We found this restaurant a few years ago and would drive a three hour round trip from Devon several times a year as it was so good. We went yesterday and sadly it is going downhill. We were seated outside and were quickly served our starters. We then waited almost an hour for our mains, with one server apologising that they were ‘short staffed’. Whilst I accept this can be a problem, they did know we were coming. We would rather have been cancelled than served sub standard food with poor service. When the mains did arrive my partners Monkfish was undercooked. This is a dish that, with a side, is £33 so should be perfect. We did bring it to their attention and they took it off the bill but it did tarnish the whole experience. Unfortunately we will no longer be doing the three hour round trip from Devon. We used to love it at the Clubhouse.

Moroccan spiced mackerel, although grilled well, lacked any flavour at all. No salt and pepper let alone Moroccan spices. My starter was vegetarian fritters with a sauce, not much flavour followed by monk fish( very small portion, for £25 not much flavour) and potatoes and chorizo which did taste good but had to pay extra for potatoes then had dessert which was strawberry pavlova which tasted good. My cousin had steak which we asked to be cooked medium rare and it was well done! The other guests had fish and chips which seemed ok and another had monkfish and gave the same review as mine. When you are asked by your waiter if everything is OK with your food do NOT say anything but Yes !! And if you dare to pass comment, not complaint, just a comment, then do not do it if your table is within hearing distance of the kitchen because you will then suffer the embarrassment of hearing what the chef thinks of your comment. We were offered coffee by way of an apology but we were only just into our evening and enjoying the beautiful view so coffee was not in our thoughts at that time. When we asked for the bill we received a lengthy second apology and were informed that the disappointing meal had been "taken off the bill". We protested that that was not required, after all it had been eaten. But we checked the bill and saw that it had not been taken off. "It would have been" they said !! By then, the evening that had started so well, had been punctured and all the air had slowly hissed out causing total deflation. So never say NO at The Club House.

Cockle popcorn was tasty and novel. The dressed crab was divine. The lobster was also fantastic. With its relaxed atmosphere and great food there aren't many better places to spend a sunny afternoon on the Dorset coast.

Had a fabulous lunch here today. Perfect setting, friendly staff and superb food. As I’m vegan I was a little worried to only see vegetarian options on the menu. I spoke to our lovely server and she said she’d speak to the chef. He came up with a couple of options. Both sounded delicious. I chose one and was not disappointed. As good as I’ve had in any vegan restaurant. I was made to feel quite special rather than a bit of a nuisance that often happens in restaurants. Can’t wait to go back. Thoroughly recommend. Didn’t have room for dessert which also looked fab. Dog friendly outside and in the pavillon too.

We were staying at the hotel up the road and decided to pop into the Club House for lunch - we hadn’t booked and just thought we would see if they had a spare table. On arriving, we were told by who we later discovered was the manager that although they had plenty of space ‘they didn’t have enough time’ for us. It didn’t seem busy at all and we thought this was very unwelcoming. We had a look at the menu and it looked very overpriced especially considering the restaurant has a view of a car park rather than the sea!

Eating out, especially when you're planning to spend a lot of money, needs to make you feel special. The service was casual but professional and we were made to feel at home. The food was outstanding - all of the fish and seafood was so fresh and perfectly prepared. We had lobster and lemon sole courses and they were sublime. Served with beautiful bottle of wine, outstanding and imaginative desserts, coffee and liqueurs. Why is it so hard for others to get it right when these guys have got it so right. Yes you pay for it, but if you pay for something which is perfectly prepared and served, it makes you feel as though you have had a very special experience. Well worth it and I would definitely go there again. Well done team!

Came here for dinner on a Saturday evening in early September. The Club House is perfectly situated on the beach at West Bexington (where, famously, the Dambusters bouncing bombs were tested) with amazing views down to Lyme Regis to the West and along Chesil beach to the East. Fantastic sunset. The Club House itself is a cool beach hut style building that has been upgraded with a very busy visible kitchen, a covered terrace in front and large garden (where the outdoor swimming pool was in the 30's). Plenty of tables and chairs outdoors. The team are very friendly, engaged, interesting, clearly love their work and come from a variety of top restaurants locally and nationally (Hix etc). We couldn't have been made to feel more welcome and was a great pleasure to experience real quality food and service in a simple beach environment - a rare luxury these days.We started with proper cocktails in the garden by the beach (and cockle popcorn - a revelation) then moved into the covered (and heated) terrace. Starters of Beef Tataki with tangy ponzu/yuzu sauce were great (to our shame we all had the same but it sounded so good) but it was the lobsters, crab and prawns for the shellfish platter that really impressed. It's quite rare to get large lobsters in a restaurant now and these were easily big enough to share - and perfectly cooked.A bottle of crisp Albarino went with this very well...Chocolate Panna Cotta and a glass of New Zealand Muscat-like dessert wine after was a great way to end.We had a great time, can't wait to come back and highly recommended.

Very disappointing meal for our anniversary on the 4th Sep.It started with a very poor glass of Hive Champagne which the waiter could not tell us where it had come from but that it was bought in bulk in re-badged. Not a great start. The main annoyance was the food though. My starter was the Cornish sardines and was tasteless. The tomatoes and sauce which was part of the dish just had no flavout at all. I'd also question how fresh the sardines were. My wide then ordered the Prawn Marsala. This had no resemblance of an Indian curry. It had no flavour whatsoever and we had to complain as we couldn't eat it. It was like the gravy sauce that you get at a chinese takeaway to dip your chips in.We also ordered the Lowry's Pass Chenin Blanc 2019 at around £30 per bottle. I later found out that I could have sourced this for around £8. Now I understand that you have to mark up wine but that is a plain rip off.The one positive was the waiter who was very apologetic.Overall I felt totally ripped off and would have probably spent the same going to the Limewood or the chainy Rick Stein and would have had a far better meal.

We can't remember who recommended it, but we did our further research and decided to go - albeit uncertain about what to expect, and fearing it might be a bit stuffy, pretentious and poor value for money. We were very much mistaken: it turned out to be very professional but pleasantly informal, and the food really was excellent. We'd very much loo forward to going again and have no hesitation recommending it. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did ...

Took my mum for lunch, it was our second time eating here!We both had tomato and mozzarella salad to start and then half lobster for mains. Both courses were very good!I chose the Club House especially to have the lobster as we previously ate breakfast here and we were very pleased with that too.Highly recommend! The sea view is lovely, even today on a wet but sunny day! Great service and friendly helpful staff!

The website of the Clubhouse gives the impression that you will eat at a table overlooking the sea on Chesil Beach at West Bexington. Well, you are near the sea, but it's not quite what it seems - however, it is still well worth a visit: the environment is distinctive, the food is excellent and the price is fair. There are just a couple of points to bear in mind when booking. The main feature of the location which the website doesn't advertise is the car park in between the restaurant and the beach. It's busy with the cars and vans of anglers and travelling groups of young people so the view can be obscured from many of the tables. Moreover, not all the tables have any hope of a sea view: they are divided between those in a plastic marquee at the front (with a decent chance of a sea view, though through plastic windows if windy conditions require it); those in the solid building but outside under a canopy (the sort of 'sea view' you sometimes get in hotel rooms with that label, for which you have to crane your neck and which prompt you to demand a discount); and the tables inside the building which have only distant, very partial views of the sea. We were offered the second but opted for the latter because it was unusually hot outside. Though we had booked weeks in advance, no specific table was reserved for us, and we were told that the (then empty) ones in the tent overlooking the beach were reserved. Thus you should insist when booking that you want a sea view if that's your aim. The food was great: we all had three courses. The beef starter was excellent as were the scallops; the mains included a good range from fish and chips to salads and gnocchi; desserts included panna cotta and pavlova. Apart from drinks the bill ended up at £40-£50 a head, which didn't seem outrageous for a special evening at the end of a holiday. We particularly enjoyed the Negroni and the Ruby Garden cocktail. The service was positive and attentive but a bit mixed in style. There were one or two comedy moments with staff bringing the wrong cutlery or plates, or dropping things; generally it seemed well-intentioned if a bit anxious, which perhaps reflects (as I gather from elsewhere on Trip Advisor) a new management's determination to overcome earlier poor reviews of service. Overall, definitely recommended, but book well in advance and be clear about what you want - and maybe keep it for a special one-off unless you've been lucky on the lottery. On reflection, the missing fifth point is really a mark of the varied offering depending where you are in the restaurant and the contrast between its website and the reality. Don't let that deter you from going there, though.

Sought out this place as sounded good and semi outside so ideal for the Covid era The place is slightly frenetic with very few small tables and loads of large ones leading to lots of shuffling punters around with an air if stress!. There are are also a lot of dogs which took some getting used to and added to the chaos. The covid measures are hard to see and are not as well versed as in other places we have been to but saved by the open air. That saiid the food is delicious , the tranche of plaice was simply gorgeous as was the plum pavlova. The setting is lovely. It literally was a plaice in the sun!

Loosely related to the Hive, but more up market, no takeaway area. Better food, so why did I go for the fish and chips? Scallops and bisque were good though. Strangely set out as a disused swimming pool with boat wrecks. Not exactly sure it works. Will return, and select better. £5.95 for a cup of tea afterwards on a deck chair was somewhat steep. Difficult to book.

I'm assuming this is the Club House at West Bexington rather than Dorchester. That is where I ate. Superb restaurant right on the beach. Excellent views, service and food. A little tricky to find but well worth the effort. Good seafood especially with the added freshness that being next to the beach brings.

Right at the end of the road and there is plenty of parking. It has a sea view, bar the public car park between it and the cliff edge.Nice welcome and good service. Covid distancing although staff do not wear any masks and deliver food as per normal but keep their distance a bit more when talking to you, taking the order etc. Things are a bit more relaxed in Dorset and Cornwall it appears. The food is very good. I had the gazpacho soup to start with, very tasty and deep tomato flavour. Then I had half lobster, excellent! Very good flavour and cooked well. Very nice chips to go with it. If you are really go for the whole lobster but for most the half will fill you up. My partner had the hake and chips, very good batter and the same good chips. Apparently the best fish and chips for a very long time.Much enjoyed, nice atmosphere. There were tables outside in the sum, some under cover, some in a gazebo. We sat just indoors as we did not want to get warm in the sun and the breeze through the open doors/windows was very nice on the hot day. I would certainly return.

Many thanks to all the team at The Club for a great service today. We enjoyed cockle popcorn, Brill, Lobster and a wonderful Pavlova. Glorious views over Chesil Beach on a very sunny day. Only downside was the price of the Langhams, so we drank a very enjoyable house Champagne. Great lunch. I think the best on Chesil beach and we have now tried them all: Boarding House, Crab Shack etc

I am really sorry but & it is a big but, but aside from the whole lobster I had the most expensive thing on the menu (not because I can just because I thought it looked interesting on menu) sirloin steak with marrow bone & shallot butter dressing. To be honest it was so chewy I wrapped half of it in napkin for someone's dog. I am not sure where you get you meat from or who cooked it. I know it has been hard & you are just opening again, things may not be on track with staff etc to the standards you would wish. I didn't feel I could say anything at the time as it was a birthday celebration but I wish you luck in the future. I am sure it will get better

Clubhouse West Bexington is set back from Chesil Beach and gets lovely sea breezes through its windows or in the newly covered patio outside . The restaurant have thought carefully about following guidelines and use the space well , sanitising hands is required and staff have now got distancing and service well practised. We’ve eaten twice here since restaurants opened up again and both have been great experiences . The lobster with garlic butter has perfectly cooked triple cooked chips , fish and chips has moist hake with a lovely light batter and the monkfish was a great fish of the day with tasty butter based sauce . Heritage potatoes with chorizo are a very good side , crispy cockles an innovative bite .Wine is reasonably priced and the summer cocktails are fresh and beautifully presented .Well worth a visit

Lovely hotel and friendly helpful staff. Pricey at £350 B&B with very average rooms but good breakfast, although service very slow. Sadly not accessible for those with mobility disorders as no lift, steep stairs and few accessible bathrooms However, marvellous for lunch or dinner on a day out

We were camping just down the road this past weekend and decided to have a browse - I'm glad we did as there was much more to this farm shop than I was expecting. Lots of different produce and gifts type things all quite nicely set out. Some things were sensibly priced considering you do expect to pay a slight premium at a farm shop (postcards 50p, fresh scones £1, clotted cream £1.99), but some of the prices were a little shocking - there were loaves of fresh bread at £4.50 and I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the price of ice cream being served at the side of the car park! Overall a worthwhile trip - the scones were delicious, good selection of ciders and got some lovely warm slipper socks. I'd recommend popping in if you're passing (the views are fantastic too) just don't expect any bargains.

Ate here Friday evening three of us had wood fired pizzas which were delicious, pleasant staff as always. On the Saturday two of us visited for lunch. We had crab sandwiches with a mixed leaf salad, they were tasty enough but £11 seems too much...

We wanted something less corporate for lunch and was pleased to find this cafe as it looked a little more old school and independent. The build your own breakfast offered great choice and when I said I fancied crumpets with marmite rather then the offered jam, was told this was fine. The crumpets came with a generous serving of marmite in a little bowl. This was a great find and having never been a fan of Dorchester improved my opinions if the town (finding the park also helped improve my opinion of the town) .
