Visited today.. how sad I used to run the clock house , which was a vibrant place for locals and friends of Southwold to visit We worked hard to look after customers always making sure they were happy with the products we happily delivered. Coffees were made for local customers as we saw them walk up the pier, making them feel special and valued….. not today, staff totally uninterested, unmotivated, no leadership It made me feel very sad to see this special venue so badly run I was also grubby, uncared for… let’s hope the new owners do something fast, before the season starts

A painful experience ! 1 out if 4 members of staff actually doing anything . Customers in Queue patiently waited to be served . 35 minutes to get a takeaway coffee , maybe the young lady on the till could be shown how to do other tasks !! All very polite but half asleep . Watched the young lad wash one cup up for 5 mins while almost bent double leaning on the sink . Speechless 😂

It was a dismal experience all round! It was all so tatty and drab . Tea and coffee served in cardboard cups and cakes in a horrid cardboard tray with wooden cutlery. There were dishwashers in the kitchen so why use disposable stuff which has to be thrown away.?!? Cakes and scones were very uninteresting despite the website saying there were all handmade (they weren’t!). Standards in the Clockhouse have reached an all time low! Don’t go. Everything on the pier these days is in desperate need of a lick of paint and a bit of love and attention to detail.

Food and drink were good if a wee bit expensive. Almost £18 for three hot drinks and two pieces of cake add to that they were served in paper cups and plates. It's a return visit but to be frank not sure would now go back.

Nice setting with nice decor and no complaints about the staff but at £4.50 although my hot chocolate was a good size, very generously topped and nicely presentd it was far too sweet and at that price the fact it was in a paper cup is just not acceptable. My scone with jam and cream was an absolute joke - a bland, dense dry brick with not enough sultanas and didn't even come with butter. As for the price rip-off doesn't even come close and I was appalled that it was served on a bit of cardboard with a wooden knife!! My mum liked her coffee and walnut cake but the lack of crockery was definitely not ok! NEVER AGAIN.

We always loved this little cafe, so much charm and character with proper China cups and plates and tea pots. Can't describe how disappointed we were this time. All disposable cups and bits of cardboard to eat your snack off of. Definitely won't be going again. A massive shame.

Tea was just a teabag left in a takeaway cup and an almost grudging splash of milk, the limited choice of cakes were also served on a disposable paper tray. No doubt environmentally friendly but not worth it for the prices charged; plenty of other much more pleasant cafes to choose from in the town.

Very friendly staff and good service. Coffee was OK but served in takeaway mug! Had to ask that it was only filled half way to maintain the flavour and strength of the coffee. Black coffee drinkers like coffee so we like to be able to taste it 😃

Service was very pleasant, but rather disorganised and slow. "Pleasant" goes a long way, but still: I'm glad I wasn't standing behind us! ;) The food is a nice selection of cakes, savoury nibbles and baguettes. The vegan pasty was lovely: real food, not pretend meat! :-) Prices are distinctly too high. Hot chocolate was rated "OK" by our 2 teens... make of that what you will!

We stopped off at the Clockhouse because we only wanted a lite bite and wished we had ventured elsewhere, the baguettes were not very fresh, I know they say that they are baked fresh every morning but because of the type of dough used they go limp for want of a better word and not very nice could be kept in a warm oven. for nearly £20 for two baguettes and two drinks I was not too pleased. Will not be returning.

Tried to eat here today. We went towards end of lunch and was happy that choice may have been limited by time but we went for a quieter time on purpose as we have allergies and know this takes time sort. What we found unacceptable was that on asking thrm to check if the bread contained soya and milk we were met with a flat refusal to check with the excuse "just to be safe" we left and found somewhere else with level access and a better standard of customer service who showed just what great customer service is about when you live with allergies.

I ordered two drinks to sit in the cafe with my mask on from a friendly member of staff. In accordance with government guidance I then removed my mask as I sat down at a table inside. We then walked to the other side of the cafe due to wasps lingering near our table. As we walked over another member of staff was talking to another customer about people not wearing their masks inside and asked me why I am not wearing a mask and that I needed to wear one as I was ordering (which I did). You cant just make up government guidance as you please. I did not visit your cafe to be aggressively and wrongly challenged and talked about between your staff and customers for literally doing nothing wrong. This was so inappropriate and rude. Will not be returning!

We visited here for a day out. We visit Southwold regularly throughout the year and love it. The pier is always a stop off point. We always take our dog with us a everywhere is so dog friendly. As it was cold we decided coffee inside the coffee shop with a sausage roll was order of the day. We normally sit outside but as it was a chilly wind went inside in the bench area where dogs are allowed. All was well until a customer said you should not bring your dog in here!! I said it was ok and allowed at this end. He said it was not right. I ignored him and our dog sat quietly with us as usual. As he left he tutted and said we should sit outside. I said he could have sat at the tables at other end but is was an area dogs were allowed. So the coffee was lovely the sausage roll superb but spoilt by a customer. Never mind we will be back.

We had to order another round of drinks and at first they expected us to pay for this round but we said as we had to wait so long for the food was the reason why we had to get some more drinks. The manager did agree to waive the cost of our drinks and our sandwiches eventually came 5 minutes later. Slightly put a downer on what could have been a lovely experience.

We visited Southwold and were looking for a light lunch snack. Wandering down the pier we found the Clockhouse and decided to order some crab sandwiches. We waited for what we imagined would be some delicious sandwiches of fresh local crab. Although they appeared to have been freshly made, the content was anything but fresh. The bread tasted like it had been out in the sun all day, it might as well have been sold as toast. The crab was drowned in mayonnaise, it might have been fresh and local but who could tell? The side salad was limp and gritty, perhaps it had been washed on the beach. Coupled with that, my plate of sandwiches was almost half the size of my wife's due to the shape of the end of the loaf, basically about two bites worth. No standard portions here! At £9 we felt robbed, at £5 we would probably have been robbed? It was a poor representation of what should have been a celebration of the best of local produce.

Very disappointing. We went on Wednesday evening as you get a free pizza when buying one pizza. Despite there being no one in the Cafe we were told we had to take the pizzas away. They were not cooked properly, the dough didn't taste good. The margarita one was better than the stagioni one which was awful. There was very little artichoke or mushroom on it, just a load of olives. An experience not to be repeated.

I should point out that the reason we waited so long is because they were very busy and they make every thing fresh to order... you can watch them preparing the dough for each order and there were a lot of them... most people were ordering to go so it was quiet inside... once we got our pizza they were absolutely gorgeous which made the wait worth it... very friendly staff even though they were busy they were friendly and chatty... definitely go again ...

I recently had the pleasure of visiting this wonderful café on the pier with my wife on a recent visit to Southwold. With very few decent places to eat in Southwold that do not charge the earth we stumbled upon this place. And what an excellent find too! From the outside it looks like an unpretentious little café situated on the pier. But the food was absolutely amazing. The Seafood pizza was out of this world using all the freshest ingredients & was one of the best pizzas I've ever had outside of my regular travels to the continent. My other half had the sandwich platter which was well presented with a side salad. And the prices were very reasonable too for such a prime location.Although the bottle of red wine was rather on the expensive side, but in keeping with Southwold prices so can't really complain. If I could find one little niggle then that's the poor service.Or rather the lack of it.Having to queue & order your food at the counter. But this doesn't detract from the excellent food & I would have no hesitation in recommending this café to anyone hoping to find a wonderful place to eat on their next visit to Southwold.Enjoy!

Visited this beautifully situated cafe for the second time recently for coffee and a snack. It was about 1030 in the morning and trade was good but not incredibly busy. The inside was empty and there were several vacant tables outside on the boardwalk. There were four staff behind the counter. Only one was serving. One seemed to be preparing salad, one washing up and one putting out firstly sausage rolls and then scones. Each sausage roll and each scone placed individually using tongs. Meanwhile, the queue got longer and longer. I am not an impatient person and was in relaxed, holiday mode but still found my long wait very frustrating considering the situation I witnessed. When I eventually got my coffee and cheese scone, they were both okay without being exceptional. The prices whilst not extortionate are on the high side.It is a great location and the pier in general is lovely but on my experience they need to get their act together service-wise in this cafe.

Had coffee, sausage rolls and a cheese scone between 3 adults. Sausage rolls were meaty tasty and very filling, cheese scone rather disappointing and a little cloggy, maybe it was a bad batch! Coffee not particularly strong but nice and smooth. Sat outside enjoying the sunshine and people watching. As with most places in Southwold water bowl for dogs outside - which on a hot day like today much appreciated by our puppy.

We enjoyed very good cups of tea at this café and it is a real pleasure to sit outside and watch the waves and also enjoy a great view of the beach and beach-huts. It was quite late in the afternoon when we were there so service was prompt and friendly.

It's perfect for a rather nice coffee and millionaire short bread! And a warmed up cheese scone. Run by local people with a friendly atmosphere - really recommend.I see a few negative reviews on here - ignore them - it's well worth it. It's not a super fast costa coffee shop - that's what makes it great!

Just love perching on a stool in the relaxed area of this lovely coffee bar to watch the waves breaking on the shore. The view is either over the north or south beach from out on the pier.Good coffee and peppermint tea and scones were also very good. There is also a more traditional side to the cafe at the other end with proper tables and chairs. They also serve great pizzas although did not indulge.

We stopped to sit and enjoy the views of the beach and beach huts and enjoyed a coffee and piece of cake outside. Staff are friendly and despite the blowy weather we had a lovely visit.

Oh they go to town on the hot chocolate on the pier. After a mornings walk along the coast and viewing all the lovely chalets and town, we ended up treating ourselves to hot chocolate in the Clockhouse. Had the full works and sat on barstools overlooking the sea. Long queue but worth it.

On a sunny day there is nothing nicer than having drinks and eats on the pier. Having visited The Clockhouse on many occasions not once had I failed to be satisfied.Yesterday I was in there for a tuna melt panini and drink. It was not busy however the lady serving said to her colleague "Sorry it's a food order!" this was at just gone mid day. The service was friendly yet a little slower than usual. The food arrived seeing it my heart sank. The panini was flat and not well filled, crisps were ok and the salad was a joke; it was like the innards of a lettuce(very yellow) 2 little slices of a normal tomato and no dressing. The presentation was not very good, the white plate shone through on this colourless snack. It was hot and so were the drinks.

Four paninis/sandwich & hot drinks for £40 and barely edible. The drinks worse. Service slow and without any enthusiasm. After a long wait, two of the paninis brought out and quite a long wait for the other two. There was no brown bread for the sandwich and the white bread served was inedible. Only one member of staff. I would not return

Great food, friendly helpful staff and an absolute diamond on southwold pier. Superb coffee made to high standards by a barista called philip. And a socialite called avril 'the manager' who gave great customer service and made a few jokes as well with the barista and really made our morning. A great way to end our weekend in a scenic and pleasant, seaside southwold.

I visited with a friend for a lunchtime coffee and snack and was very impressed. I was served by a young man who I believe was called 'Philip'. I ordered a flat white and I must say it was possibly one of the best I have ever had! (On par with Costa I dare say). I would highly recommend my friends and family visit this cafe, if not for the view then for the excellent coffee.

We've enjoyed coffee at this great location on a few occasions so decided to order food today. Bad move. With one other order in front of us we ordered sandwiches. 30 mins later we were still waiting, and furthermore we noticed that according to the receipt they'd taken the order wrongly anyway. The wrong sandwich order was apparently absolutely our fault, there's no way could they have taken the order wrongly. No problems though, because they hadn't even started work on our order due to the fact that they processed orders strictly in the order they were received and the people in front of us had ordered pizza which "takes 10 minutes". Having long since finished our drinks we decided to leave and asked for the money for our food back - after many excuses and much grumbling this was granted. Very bad attitude (coffee in a large cup - no chance, that's served in small cups, the large cups are just for hot chocolate) from the 3 staff to service 2 sets of customers from start to finish. Will be back for nothing more complicated than drinks in future.

Clockhouse Cafe is probably the most inefficiently run, slowest, overpriced and staffed by the laziest staff, cafe that I have ever visited.I stood in a queue for over 15 minutes in which 3 staff managed to serve one customer. They achieved this with one glacially slow OAP serving and two assistants watching her. A man behind me asked if anyone else could serve the waiting customers and was met with silence. He gave up and walked out. Followed shortly after by me. I never got the chance to pay £2.80 for a coffee. I later reported the cafe to tourist info for giving Southwold a bad name.

We've stopped of here several times whilst in Southwold.Pets are welcome, which our dog is happy about. The service can be very slow, but the sandwiches, although a little pricey are nice. The coffee and tea is good. Our sons favourite is the hot chocolate with maltesars, flake, marshmallows and cream. Not forgetting the views across the sea, we will be visiting again :)

The best thing about this cafe is the view, otherwise it's just an average cafe. We enjoyed visiting here every morning while visiting Southwold just to sit & take in the view.

The Clockhouse Tea Room is about half way down Southwold Pier. One has the choice of sitting inside in the pretty tearoom overlooking the sea or outside. There is also a separate internal room for those with dogs which I expect is welcomed by dog owners on a chilly day (although it didn't look as pretty as the main area). We had a light lunch here which was enjoyable but a little on the expensive side for what was provided but not extortionate by any means. A nice touch is that they serve the tea in attractive china teapots of varying design. Overall, this is a pleasant little café with a relaxed, cheerful atmosphere.

Afternoon tea, disappointing, not down to quality of tea but simply the standard of cleanliness.... Teapot was brown beyond belief, area serving coffee/tea was messy, general impression was messy. On the bright side situation is great and the pier is a must for any Southwold visitor. Just needs standards raising and it'll be fine.

OK, so we visited The Clockhouse on the pier at Southwold on Sunday afternoon around 1pm. What a waste of time. Loads of things on the blackboard to eat, but half of them weren't actually available when we ordered our food and drinks. Waited probably 45 minutes for the food to arrive and then the orders were messed up. By this time lots of people had tried to order but were told that there was no food available and the place was empty. Apparently, allegedly, some sort of crisis with the cheffing, we were told?? This was only really a cafe for snacks and cakes, not a restaurant, so what was the problem. Absolutely chaotic and a waste of our car parking time. Definitely won't be going into The Clockhouse again!

We visited three times in a week - while it isn't the best place to eat it is one of the best places to sit and look at Southwold.Leaf tea is served in a pottery teapot and they serve a decent coffee. You can sit outside on a windy day because the wind breaks are effective.Cakes are OK but nothing special. I dropped the rating to 3 stars because £3.95 is a lot to pay for a slice of mediocre carrot cake. We paid a lot less in Cornwall for a much nicer cake at a café with as good a view. Tea is also quite expensive here.

They should be ashamed. It was absolutely filthy on the floors tables windows sills and even the seats. Clearly nothing is cleaned properly, the manage needs to go on a hygiene course!

I went there today and became upset. The girl behind counter was amazing. Dark hair in pony tail. Northern accent maybe. She is an absolute credit and deserves recognition

Travelled from Norwich for a spot of lunch and a mooch around the greenery. Although they stock some beautiful plants and gifts, the cafe was disappointing. With only cake and coffee available, no lunch, made more stressful as we had a very hungry toddler. One lady serving behind the counter who appeared confused with what she was doing at times. No option for a children’s hot chocolate. Even though this could have easily been catered to. Other staff members about but not offering help. Large que too but this didn’t seem to bother the staff and create urgency. Be nice to see a simple lunch menu in future.
