The Clerk and Well in Camden

Lore & Lauren were lovely! We booked last minute when we landed in London. Despite a last minute arrival our room was immaculate and comfortable. What an adorable place to stay! If you are just looking for a pub for food and wine, the pub is adorable. Cozy, fabulous decor, and you can’t beat the friendly staff. Thank you Lore & Lauren for making our 24 hours in London fun and comfortable!

A charming find in the middle of London! Both the hotel rooms and pub exceeded expectations. The food was delicious, great flavor which can be hard to find, and Lore and Lauren made sure we were well taken care of. Highly recommend if you’re roaming the city or taking in a theater show.

Lovely place to stay if you want an alternative to the corporate hotel.

I attended a work social here. We had the semi private at the back of the bar (far left end). Ordered bar food and drinks. The chicken wings and the mozzarella sticks were delish. I heard good things about the chips too. Good selection of beers and wines. We were there on a Thursday it was heaving with people inside and out after work. Nice place. The interior is dark and moody but welcoming and fresh.

This place is the best ever and has the most amazing drinks ever! Lauren and Lori were the sweetest bartenders and made the best watermelon punch drink 💋💋💋

Myself and friends have been frequenting this pub since September 2023 as our company has just moved oppositeThe food is delicious/excellent and the service is perfect, especially Farah; she could not do enough for us - I often eat here alone, I love the tranquility. I highly recommend the restaurant. I cannot comment on the hotel as I have never stayed there.

We had a wonderful Sunday roast last weekend (17th March) - I had the chicken and my husband had the beef… honestly couldn’t fault it. The meat was cooked to perfection, the veggies had a nice bite to them, the roasties were crispy & fluffy, the gravy was flavoursome & just thick enough - the whopping great yorkie pud was spot on; light and crisp - all delicious! The service was fantastic… we received a very warm welcome - I didn’t catch everyone’s names, but all the staff were so friendly and made you feel right at home. A very helpful & lovely server called Lori told us about an offer for a free drink promotion if we downloaded the Mixr App, a nice Brucy bonus. The food was excellent value too! The bar & restaurant area was spotless & had a great vibe in there; families, couples and friend groups all mixed together & it worked brilliantly. One tip… Make sure you book a table to avoid disappointment! Thanks to everyone who looked after us… we’re looking forward to our next visit already!

Lovely food - disappointing service. We popped in for lunch - it was fairly quiet. I tried to attract the attention of a member of staff but was rudely told I would have to wait. Whilst it became apparent that she had to del with a spillage, her tone was rude and unapologetic and even once she did come to our table, no explanation or apology was offered. We ordered the food. One of our party asked if the hot sauce could be served on the side - she replied that she expected the toasted sandwiched had already been made up with the hot sauce inside but when our order arrived this was clearly not the case. A simple check with the kitchen could easily have clarified this! Later, when she came to collect the glasses, one of our party was still drinking their drink when she asked to take it. Because of the poor service (the food was delicious) we selected the no gratuity option upon payment but was disappointed to se a service charge had been added regardless.

Great place for after work food/drinks. Good music and atmosphere. Lori was absolutely brilliant for the evening, we were a big group and she kept up with our many orders and we really appreciated how attentive she was! Big shout out to Lori!

yeah, nice spot in the heart of Clerkenwell. We had a group in London and came here for drinks and snacks . it was worth the shot and the money and time we invested in it. It is spacious, it got busy, we got really lovely service, the food was lovely - snacks and sharing plates, the drink flowed, it was easy to have a very nice time here. Despite it getting busy we seemed to have lot of room, no mad crush, no stampedes, no armpit sniffing needed to get about. Yep, on our list for the next gig.

Didn't stay in the hotel but a relaxed place to work during the week with very friendly service from Lori. Excellent drink selection at the bar and a lovely breakfast too.

They probably need to put a notice on the wall that customers not to too loud or tune their huge speaker at the outside of pub. Annoying music all day to night in the middle of residential area and the accommodation!

Absolutely superb! Beautifully furnished room and super comfy bed and soft white towels. Warm greeting from Chris and super breakfast provided by Lora. Why I have never found this place before! Steep stairs, not a problem for us but might be an issue for others. A wonderful stay, thank you.

Dinner with the family at Clerk and Well never disappoints. This was our third visit for a meal. The food, the service (particular mention for our server Lori who was very attentive and lovely) the vibe, all excellent. Highly recommend. Will definitely be returning and having this pub be our regular family get together…plus it’s dog friendly, perfect for our family who have 2 small dogs 🤗

We came to the Clerk & Well for a work leaving do and had the best time. The staff were absolutely wonderful, big shout out to Lori who looked after us so well! Will definitely be back again and again and again!

We booked the restaurant for dinner for a birthday celebration on 23/01 and had fantastic service from the staff. I would also like to say a big thank you for the thoughtfulness as we had a table in the front for drinks first, I so appreciated it. A big shout out goes to all the staff for making it a brilliant night to remember and food was excellent as usual. We did not stay over but have very good things about it.

Bar staff were very good, welcoming and accommodating to my old man preference for the right glass for the right drink 😂👍🏼

The Clerk&Well hotel is wonderful: great location, very clear and new rooms, silence with no additional noises that is incredibly rare in London. The room is very big, with comfortable furniture, spacious bathroom and a little kitchen corner with coffee machine, kettle and a little fridge. Absolutely enjoyed every minute of our stay here❤️ highly recommended!!!

The most needlessly complicated set of menus I’ve ever seen. Told to pre order online and was comfort with about 8 different menus all with similar but not matching items. Everyone ended up arguing over which menu they were ordering from. Whole thing was a bit pretentious.

Nice little Hotel with good breakfast to tour afterwards through London. Nice cozy rooms in an attractive part of London. Really good as starting point for activities. Lori did a fantastic service. Highly recommended!

The food took a very long time to arrive. The portion sizes were small. The food tasted ok but was not worth the high price (see below), especially since there's lots of cheap, good food in Leather Lane. The menu prices are misleading; it doesn't include the mandatory 12.5% tip. It's in very small print at the bottom of the menu and claims to be discretionary, but it's not - they add it on when you pay without asking - and yet their payment device still asks if you want to leave a tip !!! So, the cheapest main course listed as £17.50 actually costs £19.69. Also, they brought me chips with my meal which i hadn't ordered (so i assumed was included in the meal, so I ate them) - but later charged me £6.17 for them ! (Listed as £5.50 on the menu.) The food was nicer and better value when this was a Thai pub. I won't be going back. My advice - get some food in Leather Lane instead.

I always love coming to this place. It has great food and an amazing wine list. Draught beer won’t disappoint you either. The staff are very helpful and welcoming. I love coming in here when in the area. Would definitely recommend this place. 10/10 !

Terrible service. Asked twice for dirty glasses to be cleared from table, which they weren’t. Waited a really long time for food, when it did come, the waitress said she’d be back with our cutlery. After 5/10 minutes my son had to go and ask, no apology was given and we had seen her serve 2 customers at the bar whilst we were waiting. By the time we could eat, my food was cold. Not worth the price at all.

The food was really nice, there wasn’t the warmest of welcomes but the service was ok once we were approached, I’m not a fan of all the food coming out together (starters and mains served altogether) all in all it was a nice Thai meal.

Nos hemos alojado aquí dos veces, en ambas ocasiones después de la reapertura del cierre. Stayed here for one night and the room was delightful. There was lots of space, lovely bathroom with a deep bath and rain shower and lots of little goodies to go with it! The bed was so comfortable we didn't want to get out of it! The staff are really helpful and friendly. We ate in the bar at night and enjoyed a Thai meal - very tasty and filling! This place is great and has easy access to tube station and other places of interest. The price may seem more expensive than other places but it's well worth it - this place is awesome!

We had booked rooms here for four nights and made sure to eat there at least two of the four nights because (1) the staff was spectacular and (2) the food delicious..

All was good! Charm rooms, very clean and comfortable! It is situated nearest a subway station (a centric line), well comunicated! The staff is so nice and helpful.

I stayed on business for one night in February 2020. Check-in is via the pub downstairs, with the entrance to the upstairs bedrooms to the side of the pub on the main road. Check-in was handled professionally, and the friendly member of the team carried my case up to the room (lots of steep stairs, beware!). The bedroom was clean and tidy, decorated with bookshelf wallpaper, had a great double bed, and the main plus points were the little extras. There were complementary snacks (crisps, energy bar, nuts, choclate, bottled spring water) and something I've never seen before, even in high-end hotels: fresh milk in the fridge! as a tea-drinker, this was manna from heaven.The room also had decent wifi and free netflix on the TV which was appreciated. I ate downstairs in the pub (pan-asian fusion) but they will bring food up to your room if you call on the in-house phone. Food was great, service very professional and friendly.I will definitely be back to stay there again - thoroughly recommended.

In London on a two day course. Chose this pub as it was close to the training rooms. The room was amazing. Beautiful, clean and crisp linen bed sheets, fluffy towels, tea and biscuits, hairdryer etcWent downstairs to the pub for Pan Asian dinner. I had the Laksa curry. OMG. Best curried noodle soup I have ever had :)

Very short stay, arriving in the evening and leaving early. Precisely what you need: quiet and well-equipped room. Great to find lots of complimentary snacks and drinks. No breakfast, but that is easy to find within less than 100 m.

My partner and I had a wonderful stay in The Clerk and Well. Staff were very friendly and welcoming even though we arrived earlier than expected to check in. Had a lovely room - it was very cosy, nicely decorated and good amenities. Less than a 20 min walk to Covent Garden for a fantastic night at the ballet. Would definitely consider staying again for a weekend treat.

Stayed for 1 night for an early Eurostar train the next morning. Good proximity to St Pancras station (20 min walk). The rooms are so lovely and really comfy bed!! The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble, they even surprised us with a bottle of champagne as we were celebrating our honeymoon! Would not hesitate to go back if needed somewhere to stay in the area. We also had dinner in the bar area which was delicious. Thanks for a great stay!

Refused to move one night of a two night stay even though the reason for my request was 100% beyond my control (my wife had broken her wrist and therefore I couldn't make my planned trip to London).

Stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed the location and friendliness of the staff. Our room was roomy and nicely decorated. Bathroom was large as well !

The manager was very nice and helpful, the place in itself is rather nice for a lazy relaxed afternoon; the food was average and pricey.

We loved staying at the Clerk and Well, it was surprisingly perfect. I say surprisingly because from the outside it is forgetful, on a busy London street above a pub, but once inside, it was truly impressive. Old meets new, done with very high quality materials and an eye for details. We have already said we will try to stay again the next time in London, a true hidden gem. Mike

We were 2 couples, 2nd and 3rd floor rooms-wanted a London experience so picked this place over a pub which was perfect. Easy check in, rooms had character, beautiful bathroom, high ceilings, very homey and had everything we needed. Rooms were quiet, small fridge with bottle of milk and water, coffee and tea, ceiling fan and a safe. Private entrance near pub entrance-lots of steep stairs but we knew that and it wasn’t an issue. Very much like a bed and breakfast feel- felt like I was staying in a big house, not a cold hotel.

My wife and I spent a week at The Clerk and Well and LOVED it!! The walk to the tube was a convenient one, the staff was INCREDIBLY friendly and the rooms were quaint, welcoming, and homey! We didn't eat there, not because we chose not to, but because we were out and about, but did have a few pints over the course of our stay and the bar staff and everyone were tremendous! HIGHLY recommend it!! A wonderful place to spend a week in a welcoming environment with good people!

Our 3rd trip to London in recent times. Normally we stay at the Clerk and Wells sister pub (The One Tun) so this time we decided to check it out. This trip was for 6 nights and on arrival we were met by the friendly staff who carried our bags to our room while we checked in. Our room was located on level 3, the top floor, so some elderly people may struggle with the steep climb as there is no lift. The room was large and very comfortable. Unfortunately the bed was not the large twin we had expected so Duncan (the manager) sorted a room change to a lower room with a bigger bed. Hotel is around 6-7 minutes walk to 2 tube stations and well located for walking further afield like Covent Garden. We throughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.

We stayed here as we were going to a party in Oxford Street. We received a lovely welcome from Eric who explained everything to us. The room was amazing. It has everything you need and so much more. It was beautifully decorated, a good size and very comfortable. I would thoroughly recommended a stay here. Location is perfect for city or West End, it’s near two tube stations and many bus routes.

I booked a table here for lunch for a team awayday. When we arrived, the pub was showing rugby. Fine but the TV was very loud and our table directly beneath the screen. I asked to move our table and the refused to accommodate us. The waitress and the head waiter were both rude, and offhand. The waitress said, "I can't change this" and clearly didn't care about her job. The head waiter didn't seem interested in leaving a positive impression with customers. They were so rude that I cancelled our booking on the spot and we went to another place to eat.

Beautiful room, spotlessly clean, finished to a high standard. Everything you could want and more. I could just hear the pub below from my room, but not enough to stop me sleeping and frankly where in London would you get a silent room. You can barely hear the traffic as the room is double glazed and the window outside is adorned with flower boxes. The staff were polite and helpful.

We were looking for a unique experience that was not a typical hotel. This place fit the bill. The rooms are accessed from a door next to the Pub. There is no lift and lots of stairs. The top section of the first set of stairs could use a banister. The bathroom in our room was gorgeous. I would recommend a handrail in the shower. The room was cozy, but difficult to find an outlet for the hair dryer. Since we are a couple in our 70s I would not stay again because of the stairs, but otherwise a fun place for younger couples. It was not as convenient to the central part of London that we were going to be.

I spent one night in the very comfortable rooms above the pub. They are great value for London. Well equipped, classy and comfortable . The location is very good , close to the Tube and a lot of good restaurants.

My wife and I spent 10 days this past summer while we were on holiday in London.Very nice accommodations, clean rooms, soft towels and extra amenities. The only downside to this property is very steep and narrow stairwell without a lift. Fortunately Duncan and the staff there bring your luggage to your room with a smile on their face.

We stayed 3 nights in a very nice decorated and cosy room. We had to climb a few stairs but that keeps you young. The people working there are very kind. Check in was good. Every day milk chocolate, milk, nuts, cookies in the room.

3rd or 4th stay here. What can I say, great bedroom and bathroom. Location is fab for exploring. Staff super helpful. Only down is the lack of sockets in the rooms which I've mentioned in another review somewhere.

I stayed as a hotel guest a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. I can warmly recommend staying here. My room was spacious, recently refurbished and very stylish. Everything was extremely well thought out, and there was a keen attention to detail with nice amenities like a Nespresso machine and luxury toiletries. The hotel staff were extremely kind and even went out of their way to return the glasses I left in my room free of charge.

We’ve just arrived tonight after a flight from Santorini, tired and hungry. We were welcomed by Eric in the bar and walked up to our room which was incredibly well fitted out - great size, perfect en-suite which all looks brand new. Quaint and interesting while being super clean and functional.
