I have been eating Indian / Bangladeshi food for 62 years I am on a golf holiday with friends. As I enjoy spicy dishes I looked on Tripadvisor for recommendations of this restaurant. There were excellent reviews so decided to give it a try. When you arrive the restaurant looks a bit tired from the outside. Don't let this put you off. The greeting we received when we entered was excellent. There was a very varied and extensive menu. I know most Curries start of with the same gravy and other spices added. We started with poppadoms and chutney freshly cooked poppadoms not oily. The four dishes we ordered came .Nice size portions and all really tasty . I ordered Bombay chicken, back in the day it normally was a chicken portion on the bone with a boiled egg and potato. New style is diced chicken. Tasty all the same. I also ordered pashwari nann this was the best nann I have ever tasted. It's a pity I live so far from this restaurant otherwise I would be a regular customer. Would certainly recommend this place for polite pleasant service an excellent food

Visiting the area, went for a mid-week evening meal. Very tasty food and a nice range of specials to choose from. Restaurant very quiet, which suited my wife and I just fine - attentive staff and no long waits between courses. I would happily recommend based upon my experience. Not expensive.

Always fantastic food from this place. They cater for vegetarians and vegans and when my partner and I ordered some chips the other night, they made the effort to ring us up and advise that the fryer had previously been used for cooking meat and to check whether that would be ok or if we wanted to amend the order. So refreshing to find a restsurant that is considerate and respectful of dietary requirements and willing to go the extra mile for their customers. Highly recommend.

The decor tries, but is a little bleak. The service is welcoming, eager and just this side of gushing Fresh, warm poppadoms and good chutney. We had chicken tikka pathia and lamb tikka shasni and both were good. Many restaurants serve a strange pathia imposter, but this was the genuine article. The shasni was flavourful and huge. We both like very spicy food and were perfectly happy with these offerings - richly spiced rather than crude volcanic. We had garlic rice and a cheese and garlic naan and, again, both were above average.

We called to see if they could fit in a big party (20-30) for Sunday lunch. The Sunday of my 40th Birthday. They don't usually open on Sunday but are happy to for a large party. Food was exquisite as expected and we were very welcomed despite not managing an order before we got there. It actually worked better for us to settle after a camping weekend than have the food ready so I am more and more impressed by the intimate setup and welcoming staff and excellent food.

We have been here a few times and it is a lovely place with great food but most of all the hospitality is first class. The waiters are attentive but not too much, the food was timely and again so good you could take it home. Yes the irking is bad but a small price to pay. I had the chicken jafrezi which is so good the prawn masala which is incredible and a vegetarian dish which was so good but won’t tell you as I don’t want then to run out. See you soon clay pot you are Kent’s best secret so keep it that way

Have driven past this restaurant many times, after getting a leaflet through the door finally decided to give it a try. It was the best Indian meal and the best service I’ve experienced in a long time. Very friendly and attentive waiters, very flexible with their Tuesday night banquet letting us swap side dishes for starters. Everyone thought the food was fantastic and generous portions. It was getting very busy by the time we left so probably a good idea to book for the Tuesday night special.

Doesnt look much from outside, inside is split into two sides that are cosy and friendly, there are some bigger tables for groups. The welcome you get is exceptional, we were not booked in just passing by and decided to give it a try, they squeezed us in straight away and we felt nothing would be too much trouble. We eat indian food at least once a week and sometimes more and I can tell you this place is excellent the quality and cleanliness was excellent, the lamb was melt in the mouth and the chicken was succulent. the naan were hot and fresh and rice cooked perfectly, the prices were very competative for this area, It was a busy night as they were doing a set meal off the menu for 10.95 such good value for money , worth driving for, the blend off spices to heat was perfect for me , the presentation and service was superior to most. the drinks were reasonable as well, 4.50 for a large bottle of cobra.

We had a big family take out yesterday and whilst the basics were nice some of the mains were really dubious. The lamb tikka massala I ordered had no normal tikka massala ingredients in!!! It was an unrecognisable dish of lamb in a brigh rred food-coloured sugary jam style sauce that may once have been a korma with a bottle of cochineal and bad of sugar thrown in . It was disgusting. The other eaters all thought their mains were far to sugary also... I won’t be buying those meals again - a shame as this place had some good reviews

I visited the Clay Pot for the first time shortly after they opened for evening service yesterday. I ordered a Coke and a couple of popadom initially, and was advised that the popadom would take about ten minutes as they would first need to be heated, which I took as a good sign, and when they arrived they were excellent -- one plain, one masala, with a four-pot pickle tray. The onion salad in the pickle tray was clearly freshly made -- beautiful white onion, no signs of discolouration, and the mixed pickle was good too. For a starter I ordered the reshmi kebab with a chapati, and that too was excellent. Sadly the main course did not live up to my expectations. I ordered the Riposhi murgh, described as marinated chicken and minced lamb cooked with egg in a medium spiced sauce; the description was reasonably accurate (although the "marinated chicken" was actually chicken tikka) but the dish just did not gel. There was no synergy between the ingredients, and I found it bland and uninteresting. I tried livening it up with some onion salad and mixed pickle, but even that did not help and in the end I left about two-thirds. Normally I would have asked to have this packed up as a takeaway to eat later, but I really did not think it worthwhile. Would I go there again ? Yes, definitely, but next time I will try a classic dish such as Chicken Madras, and will make a point of asking it to be adequately spiced. 4/5, I think -- 3/5 would be rather mean, given the friendliness of the front-of-house team and the excellence of the starters. Oh, and coffee is served with cream, which always influences me favourably. Total bill including a couple of Cokes was less than £23.

Had a lovely evening at the Clay Pot with my wife. The staff are very welcoming and attentive. We visited on Friday night at 7.30, the place was full by 8.00 - glad we booked a table. Lots of dishes on the menus, good choices for vegetarians - all the 'classic' dishes have the option of being served with lamb , chicken or vegetables. I chose one of the house specialities, a pleasant combination of lamb and nicely cooked vegetables in a delicious sauce. The dining area is split across two rooms , the decor is fairy neutral and the ambiance is very calm and relaxing. We had a wait of about 30 mins from ordering until our food was served, this didn't bother me because it was obvious from the quality of the food that the dishes are cooked from scratch , so well worth the wait.

We arrived at 6pm and waited over an hour and 20 minutes for our food yet whilst we were waiting four other customers came in and received takeaways, some even ordering in the restaurant and still receiving their food before us. We were made to feel quite uncomfortable towards the end of our meal as it seemed as if the staff wanted us to leave so they could have an empty restaurant. The food is lovely, however, the incredibly slow service on a night when we were the only table in the entire restaurant is ridiculous. I would not return unless they greatly improved their service.

The restaurant was recommended to us by our hosts at the B&B down the street. We entered with empty stomachs and without expections. We rarely eat Indian cuisine so we asked our server to recommend a a few dishes. Starting with the fresh baked naan bread and apetizers, and continuing with the various curried lamb and chicken dishes, as well as sweet items, we thoroughly enjoyed all that was brought to our table. The total cost was very reasonable. Throughout our dinner, many locals were seated, and others stopped by for take-away. We drove to London the next day, otherwise, we would have made a reservation for another meal.Don't let the exterior and somewhat plain interior fool you, the meals and the attentive service is worth trying. Cheers!

local so used frequently as a restaurant and take away, the best indian around for sure. Service is very good but could do with getting cranberry in to add to my vodka!

We are glad we chose the Clay Pot, we had been told it was a good Indian restaurant and we completely agree, We found the menu had a good choice and not just all the old regulars. We each chose different dishes and none of the food was just hot as it is in some Indians, the flavours were varied and interesting. The service was quick but we were not hurried by the staff and we thought the whole place had a good feel to it.

Got a take away on a friday night, was cooked promptly and was hot as we arrived home, was looking forward to the meal, we plated up and sat at the table, and I was greeted with near on half a pint of water to the rim of my plate, submerging the rice, and the huge chunks of chicken were like eating a wine bottle cork, dry and like well done steak. The dish I ordered was chicken madras, and my partner ordered a chicken korma, which tasted fine but was swimming as well. Very disapointed for over £25. Tried to call the restauraunt and got hung up on. If this is the best they have to offer then I won't spend money there again on frozen, re-heated and expensive garbage. Threw it in the bin in anger and made my own curry. AVOID.

We have passed by many times on the A21, visible as it is on the southbound roadside, by the Etchingham Station turning at Hurst Green. Arguably should be listed as Hurst Green but not found there on Trip Advisor. Very obviously it was a pub, but probably better for it without the flock wallpaper innards. Adorned with plain walls and modern art, it does not lose appeal. Tables for two are none too spacious and the toilets are a little cramped (like most pub toilets) but that small detail aside the food was delicious and will have us heading back. The tikka and tandoori chicken had an amazing taste and very tender too.It is hard to praise such normal fare but this was different. The whole meal had good portions, beautifully cooked and very tasty indeed, well above the normal Indian meal. In a quiet village, nearly all the tables were full, so clearly a destination for the diners there. The menu has a wide variety of choices, not all I recognised, which is good thing to add variety. The peshwari naan was above average and very hot and all of the food was not too oily in fact for our palate, spot on and different enough to standard fare to make it interesting. You do not go to an Indian looking for a desert, but there was a selection of the standard novelty ice creams.Overall this deserves the 5 stars in part because of the excellent food but also because at this quality, it was good value. Three courses with a small beer each with gratuity, £46.

Food very nicely done and although on A21, a nice internal space. They run a good tandoor oven here. Tandoori chicken starter, although a staple is very nicely done. Naans are especially good. Very friendly staff. Maybe could do with extra heat for a few dishes.

My husband and I love Indian food. Quite often you go to an Indian and the food is dripping with oil-not The Claypot. It is seriously tasty food, good portions, standard prices. It's a very clean restaurant and the service is excellent. We have never had a take away so cannot comment, but there is always a flow of people picking up take aways, and have no doubt they are great. I would definitely recommend The Claypot, and can't wait for our next visit.

Good service whether for takeaway or dining in. The menu choice is excellent with some interesting dishes I've not had before and all very tasty indeed. Good choice for those that don't like too much spice (like myself) but there are some very good dishes for those that love chilli and the team are always happy to turn up the heat if you want!!

I consider myself a bit of a curry expert - my mother was born in India and I have been eating curries since I was old enough to eat solid food. It takes a lot to impress me. Having eaten several takeaways and eaten at all of the local Indian restaurants, this is the only one that I would return to - their food is amazing. Whether you take away or eat in, it is worth the trip. Recently we ate there with 7 adults and 6 young children, the service was superb and all the food served was of the highest quality, enjoyed by all, even the youngest diners! The takeaway service is equally good - definitely worth a visit.

Staff were polite and helpful, the restaurant is clean and tidy but the toilets could do with a bit of attention. Had a lamb Jalfreizi and a chicken dansak, brinjal bahgee (aubergine) and an alo goobi (potato and cauliflower), pilaw rice and nan bread. Presentation of the food was fine but the actual curry was only mediocre. Was a Friday night so doubt if it was number one chef's night off. We may try it again in the future.

There are many India eateries in the area, I would say about 20 in a 10 mile radius, but this is a good one. The food is the best I and friends have tasted and we do curries in a big way, however, Indian food and restaurants are individual so may not be your cup of tea, but try and then decide.

Do not be put off by the old building, which was once a pub called the Black Dog, The Claypot is a very good, clean, and well run Indian restaurant. The decor is plain without the Taj Mahal style tat that spoils many indian reastaurants, but it is the food that will keep you coming back. I live within walking distance and have both eaten in and bought takeaways, and in both cases the standard of the food is far better than most. There is plenty of competition in neighbouring villages, but for Indian food the Claypot beats all the rest. The Claypot is on the busy A21, but free parking is available behind the village hall in Station Road, almost opposite.

Ive only ever taken food away to eat at home but the quality of the food is always outstanding. They even sometimes put a little extra in the bag - last time it was some raita and poppodoms. It's pretty good value as well...

This was the first time we had used Little India and was persuaded by positive reviews. Ordering online was very easy and we did it early on in the day. The set menu is very good value as you can choose your own dishes from the menu - a no brainer if you want this quantity. Two poppadoms, two starters, two mains, two sides, two rice and one naan for £39.95. We particularly liked the chicken chat. In addition, we also ordered a half tandoori chicken which was okay but not very big for a half chicken. Food was delivered exactly on time on a Friday evening. We will try again with different dishes.

As a family we have been getting food from spice cottage for the last 3 years every Sunday and never once have we been disappointed. Food is excellent and staff are friendly. No complaints at all, I highly recommend trying it.
