Spice Cottage in Rother

As a family we have been getting food from spice cottage for the last 3 years every Sunday and never once have we been disappointed. Food is excellent and staff are friendly. No complaints at all, I highly recommend trying it.

Food taste great but, when asked one day one of them if there is anything not made with a TOXIC seed oils but ghee, I was told only veggies and all the rest on the menu cannot be made separately. Other day I have asked other one (thought I get the veggies an grilled meat) and I was told they can make anything with the ghee. Maybe my mistake, with ghee dose not mean fried exclusively on it. Be honest, don’t POISON the people! Food used to be a medicine…

One of the best curry I've ever had.

Very nice place, unexpectedly the food is very tasty, very. The portions are large, the only downside is that the food is only available for take-out, but everything is very good.

I moved to the area 8 years ago, this is the most delicious, generously portioned Indian I have had outside of the M25. Spice Cottage is a YES PLEASE every time

One of the nicest takeaway curries we've had! We dropped in to get a curry on our way home and were unsure what to have. The person taking our order was brilliant though and asked what we liked and disliked and then made recommendations based on that. He ended up recommending a dish for my husband that isn't on the menu but they happily cooked it for him! My chicken tikka pathia was made slightly milder for me as it can be really hot elsewhere. Both dishes were amazing as was the service received. Can't wait to go back there again!

Best Indian takeaway for miles.

Our first takeaway Indian food ever was an instant hit. The fried rice was not greasy and packed with flavor. You could taste the fresh ingredients. Everything was prepared with taste and care. Too bad we don't live nearby, otherwise we would come back here often.

Best curry around been coming here for years never had a bad curry or wrong order it’s always perfect!!

We went to the restaurant to have dinner but the restaurant did not serve on the spot; The campus inside the temple is small and narrow, so we parked quite far away and walked to the restaurant. Waiting about 15-20 minutes, we received the food and took it away. The food is delicious, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian.

Had a takeaway whilst staying in Burwash. I like a good curry and this food was absolutely gorgeous and everyone cleared their plates. Naga was top notch.

I have been coming to Spice Cottage for years and it is without a doubt the best Indian I’ve ever had. I’m now living in London and have tried and tested many others in hope of finding one as good as Spice Cottage - when I’m back at my family home this is definitely one of the highlights!

We ordered a take away for 18 people while staying nearby. The staff were great and we were very pleased with the service. Nothing was too much trouble, the order was correct, on time and freshly prepared. The food was great across the whole order. The meats were all tender and good quality, the sauces were really tasty and not greasy in any way. We ordered a whole selection of side dishes which were all lovely. Our whole group were very happy with their food and we would order again anytime.

We have been getting food (take away) from here for as long as it's been there, and have always enjoyed it and sung its praises to others. But this time there was a big change! Instead of the JHINGEA JAF-RANI which I always order being luscious, dark, and full of fresh vegetables, it had that pinky-orange colour of some Indian food, was glutinous, and had fewer prawns. A new chef? An off night? I don't know if we'll rink it again.

Superb! We’ve just moved from Tunbridge Wells and even with the many options available there, struggled to find a consistently high quality Indian takeaway. So we were delighted to find our now local takeaway from Spice Cottage was delicious! Rich, flavoursome, fresh tasting and not at all artificial. The only downside was it was quite oily but this did not detract from the enjoyable experience of devouring the meal for dinner and breakfast! Will defo be back

Sauce was OK but the chicken was so dry you could hardly cut it or swallow it on all the chicken dishes so very disappointed.

Staying in an excellent Airbnb almost opposite the Spice Cottage and decided on a cheeky takeaway after a day in Hastings. The Spice Cottage did not disappoint. Everything was fresh, well spiced, hot (as in out of the oven) and really tasty - even fussy DD said her Chicken Tikka Masala was excellent. We’ll definitely be staying in Ticehurst again and we shall most definitely be giving the Spice Cottage our custom again. 👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍

We are visiting Ticehurst from Salisbury and we always like to sample the local offerings. We were absolutely delighted with the take-away meal we had last night (we were unable to eat in, due to the Covid restrictions). I ordered by telephone, asking for the meal to be ready at a given time and it was fresh out of the kitchen at the time I had stipulated. The Papaadums were crisp, which is always a good sign at the start of the proceedings. The meat used is an indication of the quality of the food and it did not disappoint in any way. Good quality Lamb and Chicken and good sauces, which lived up to their descriptions and reasonably priced with good portions. I cannot recommend this takeaway venue highly enough.

Absolutely love this place, which is why we go here even though we live in the center of TWells and have 3 Indian takeaways in walking distance of us. Really friendly staff and the food is full of flavour and consistenly good which is why we have been going there for well over 5 years now. Recommendation for madras lovers is to go for the chicken naga on the chefs specials. I'm never going back to a madras!

We usually love the curry from here, but this evening we were disappointed. The lamb was tough, the vegetable rogan josh was exactly like their vegetable side curry except a bigger portion - which was nice, but not what we ordered and the butter chicken tub was only half as full as usual. Disappointing birthday meal.

Top notch. Authentic curry. You can tell how good it is, as after eating it the place is not full of grease. Full of flavour and alway a very polite service. We are lucky to have them in Ticehurst.

Enjoyable food and efficient service, we took advantage of their 20% Sunday discount which made this good value for the money.

Food is amazing and they are always busy, unfortunately this results in them never being on time, you need to add 15-30mins to the collection time quoted.

Tangy and delicious, juicy chicken! Really the best and I would go back again in a heartbeat!!! Friendly too.

Had a takeaway from here recently. They quoted me 30-mins on phone but it actually took 45-mins although to be fair the guy did give me a couple of poppodoms as a 'sorry'. I wouldn't have minded if they were busy but there was no one in the little restaurant part and no one was ordering or collecting a takeaway. I live in Broad Oak and was a little surprised that the food was best described as lukewarm when I got home . That all said it wasn't all bad and I will probably go back.

What can I say other than this is the best Indian I have had in a long time. Food all cooked to perfection - you have to try the Lamb Chat, so tender! Very limited seating but that just adds to the cosiness. The man serving us was kind & attentive. I wish we’d come hungrier! Thanks

What a great find. We ordered the set menu for 2 but it would clearly feed 3 people. Good portion sizes and the curries where full of flavour, absolutely fantastic. Fast efficient and friendly service. Highly recommend.

Always a friendly face to greet you when you walk-in. The food is pretty good value and taste very nice.. this place is definitely only a takeaway restaurant as they do have one table. I highly recommend this place

The food is always great, and consistently great. They are very friendly and also accurate as to how long it will be until it's ready. Certainly the best Indian takeaway in the Ticehurst/ Hawkhurst/Wadhurst area. The Lamb Bhuna, Tikka Malasa and Korma are the favourites in our house hold!

We were staying at The Bell opposite and popped in for a meal! It was fabulous very welcoming and food excellent best pilau rice I have ever had🙂

Popped in after few drinks small restaurant with not many tables but lots of locals using it for take aways .. food was great member of staff was very friendly. If in area worth calling in.

The spice cottage is a great Indian take away. It has three small tables inside but it isn’t a restaurant to sit in really with all the take away traffic. (They have another nearby to sit down in called the Claypot, in Hurst Green). It is however a very good take away restaurant, incredibly tasty food at sensible prices. Pretty much everything we have had from there is great, but the chicken Bhuna is particularly tasty, as the sag ponir and mushroom rice. Friendly and tasty.

Love this place, we have been ordering takeaway from here for years and it only seems to get better. We’ve also eaten in too and even though it’s small, it’s comfortable and great service. Highly recommend.

Beautifully cooked taste great every time

Tried this restaurant for the first time although have lived fairly locally for three years. I have to admit that owing to the place looking a bit tired and dated I had reservations about how the takeaway might be. I needn’t have been in the least concerned though as the quality and quantity of the food was top class. The food here is easily on a par with any Indian restaurant in the area and beyond and I have used most of them. Highly recommended

Nice little village curry house. Only three tables for dining in, which we took one of. TV was on when we got there, owner immediately offered to turn it off for us. Food was delicious - some of the best we've had - and plentiful. The takeaway was very busy all evening (Sunday), which was not surprising given the quality. Will visit again!

More a takeaway with a few tables than a restaurant, but nonetheless very good and friendly service with absolutely delicious food! (and very generous portions as well!) I only wish we lived closer so we could come back again.

We arrived late and disorganised on a Sunday night at Spice Cottage. It may have been near to closing time, but the staff treated us with great charm and courtesy. Nothing was too much trouble for them and the food they served us with was quite superb. I say ten out of ten for Spice Cottage and a big thank you!

We ordered a take out menu and it was so good that we went back the next day! The vegetarian Korma was highly appreciated by everyone.

We popped in for dinner with 4 adults and 5 kids. We pretty much took over the restaurant as they mostly do take away (apparently they have a bigger restaurant nearby). This was perfect for us as it meant the kids didn’t annoy others.

Friendly staff, excellent food for good value. Certainly up there in terms of Indian food.

We had no water over the weekend so popped in for some food, really good food and surprisingly cheap.

The Spice Cottage is fantastic. My husband and I have travelled all over the world and we are very fussy about our food. This curry house is spot -on. We have consistently had lovely food from here. I can honestly say I have never eaten a bad take-away from here. The staff are always lovely and nothing is too much for them. However, it wouldn't eat there - as the takeaway decor leaves a lot to be desired.

I've had several takeaways from here and the food is always excellent. Very generous portions. I've eaten at the surrounding Indian restaurants and they are ridiculously expensive compared to here and not impressive at all. I thoroughly recommend this place.

Had a quick, simple take away last night. Chicken tikka masala and pilau rice, plain nan and onion bhaji.... absolutely lovely and ready on time!

Went visiting in ticehurst. Ended up staying longer so we all had take away. It was one of the best curries we had in a long time to take away. Best chilli garlic chicken. Chicken was really nice.

I have been ordering my food here for a few years now. The food is always good and the staff are very friendly. Ticehurst is lucky to have such a place.

Pero eran extremadamente eficiente y la comida no tomó tiempo y era muy bueno. . . Realmente tío agradable que me sirve. Es un lugar muy pequeñas, así que si quieres comer, mejor reservar. . . Y no se dejen engañar por el aspecto del lugar. . .

Aunque no es un típico restaurante romántico o - este es un restaurante para llevar principalmente con sólo 3 mesas, pero la comida era deliciosa y el servicio fue muy bueno. El hombre que estaba tan amable y educado.

Due to our normal takeaway going drastically down hill we decided enough was enough and we would move our allegiance. We had heard good things about this takeaway/small restaurant and decided to give it a go. Our previous takeaway was delivered to our door so to get us out of our warm house and travel 30 minutes round trip it would have to be good if not excellent. It was and we have now had four takeaways selecting different dishes and all have been superb. One day we will 'eat in' in this delightful curry house. See you very soon.

This is owned by he same people who own Clay Pot. The food is always consistently good, we eat from here regularly. Our guests always comment on how good it is too. 10/10

Really enjoyed the company of the proprietors as I ate alone late after work on a Saturday. The lamb rogan was good ratio of lamb to tomato sauce. The tomato was not mushy and you could tell it was chopped fresh tomatoes. The naan was the best I've ever had (so light and crispy but not brittle). Now back in my home town a new mark has been reached and I can't eat from my regular. Thanks Guys!!!!

My colleague and I was staying at the Dale Hill Hotel last Monday night 3rd Oct and noticed the Spice Cottage in the village and having looked at the reviews on Tripadvisor we decided to eat there.Our meals ...Papadoms/Pickle £2.40, Sizzle Mix of Tandoor Chicken,Chicken Tikka, lamb Tikka and Shami Kebab £7.50, Lamb Bhuna/Boiled Rice £8.50, Chicken Tikka Ceylon/Coconut Rice £10.20, Peshwari Nan £2.40 was very good with flavours and spices.To accompany we had a large bottle of Cobra £4.50.The take away building has enough for three table and chairs and needs a bit of TLC plus the outside toilet in the yard.The service was attentive and friendly.

I think this is probably the best Indian Takeaway in the area. I have tried, Mr India in Heathfield and the Clay pot in Hurst Green and although the clay pot comes close Spice Cottage gets it right every time. They are not the biggest and not the fastest (last night my order was almost an hour) but in my opinion they are the best!!

We visited this little takeaway, which has a few tables only, for the first time on Sunday evening, 12 June. Everything was so good, the food, the attention, that we returned the following evening. We were only staying in Ticehurst for a couple of nights with a friend. Both our friend & my wife had never experienced Bangladeshi cuisine before. They are ladies of a certain age, I had better say no more! The fact that they wanted to return tells you everything.

We stayed in accommodation opposite, it doesn't look much from the out side but the food was lovely and freshly cooked, would definitely recommend.

We use this takeaway regularly. Always great service and exceptional food. There are a few tables for eating in but in the main it is a great takeaway. Shame they don't do home deliveries

Small takeaway in Ticehurst has to offer the best curry in Kent! From popadoms to tikka masala, it is all perfect with great flavours.

Spice Cottage has become a regular favourite. Absolutely delicious every time! Food is always very fresh and dishes full of different flavours. The menu is broad; all the classics (korma, tandoori etc) are included, but highly recommend being more adventurous and trying the chef's specials. Great quality, warm and friendly service and inexpensive.

We grabbed a takeaway this weekend and it was ok....there is not much more to say to be honest. The lamb was a little chewy and the rice felt a bit microwaved in texture...but it was edible and we were cold so definitely warmed us up.

Went for a meal with the hubby for our anniversary. We stayed in a near by hotel. The food was lovely and fresh and we had very good service. Would definitely recommend!

Spice cottage is the best Indian takeaway around. Highly recommended. There is an excellent and varied selection of curries to suit every palette. The staff are friendly and polite. Have just had a fabulous Dhansak and an excellent Jalfreizi with lovely hot chilies.

This is mainly a takeaway restaurant but has a couple of tables. We ate here as stayed at The Bell opposite. Great food and very nice staff, made sure the radiator was put next to our table as was very cold outside! Don't expect a 5 star restaurant but for the price, it was exceptionally good value. Full marks!

This is my regular provider of takeaway Indian food. Not exactly local to me but well worth the drive.The service is always polite and friendly. the food is consistently good with a wide range of choice.

We were staying at The Bell, situated opposite the Spice Cottage, and decided to treat ourselves to a takeaway Indian meal. For once TripAdvisor was not scrutinised and we relied upon good old 'pot luck' and luckily we landed squarely on our feet.....The chap behind the counter was helpful in recommending dishes and whilst waiting for our meal to be prepared was also happy to engage in conversation. He, and the chef, are originally from Bangladesh and justly proud of their heritage.The meal wasn't expensive ,yet they threw in free poppadoms too,( he also supplied us with plastic cutlery as we didn't fancy raiding the dining room of the hotel...! ).The food was subtly spiced and absolutely delicious. I am used to eating hotter spiced dishes but following the recommendations tried something outside of my norm and feel all the better for broadening my culinary palate. I always try the bhindi bhaji wherever I eat Indian style food and am surprised at the variety off guises it appears in, The Spice Cottage cooked and provided me with one of the best bhindi bhaji's I have ever eaten.We were fortunate in that we were staying opposite this delightful place, others, apparently, travel in from as far away as Royal Tunbridge Wells for the quality off the food and service. If we were resident there we would make that journey too....

Ate in and enjoyed a lovely curry with my dad. More of a takeaway than an eat in really as they still have an outside toilet. Would recommend.

We were staying at The Bell, and wanted something a little different for dinner, and to be hinest cheaper. So having seen the reviews for this little place we wandered across the street and took one of the three tables. It was a brilliant evening, food was fantastic and service wonderful. It is certainly low key but the guy could not have been more helpful and the food was honestly superb!
