The Clay Oven in Edinburgh, City of

Was quoted 1hr 45mins for delivery. Took 2hrs 10mins. Cold rice. Cold Nan. Cold starter. Luke warm mains. Won't use again.

This meal was an absolute disgrace. I placed order at 6.15 with delivery time of 45-50 mins so I was expecting my order at around 7pm My order had not arrived so I called the restaurant at 7.44 to be told driver was on his way. At 7.47 the driver called and told me I had put wrong address in order and he was lost! I asked him to confirm the post code and address which he did but still told me I was giving the wrong address! He then continued to to drive around looking for us! I got another call at 7.56 asking me to confirm my address again and told me he would be there shortly. My mother and I stood in the driveway and watched the delivery driver sat at bottom of rd. he them flew up the road right past us. He returned around 5 mins later and basically chucked the food at us. When we told him we were concerned that he had been driving about for at least 15 mins he told us it was not his problem! When we unpacked the food the rice chips and nann bread were stone cold, the nann was so tough it was inedible! The sauce for the biryani had spilled completely over bottom of the bag leaving only dry veg in the container. I phoned the restaurant to complain and got told that there was no way the driver was rude and the food could not be cold and there was nothing they could do. Her manner was appalling.

Pakora was slightly 'Greasy' but overall very good quality food.

Good food, but very disappointed by the order being delivered an hour later than estimated. When I called to check I wasn’t given an honest answer when it would arrive. I understand it was a busy night, but be honest about timing so I can decide whether to feed my child or wait for the order to eventually arrive!

Used this restaurant before but not at weekends. This Time was a Saturday and they were overloaded. But no communication. Food was cold when it arrived - not good!wont use it again - which is a pity !

We are regular customers of the clay oven however we have been very disappointed with the service tonight (03/01/2023). Initially the order was half an hour late - normally when this occurs the restaurant offer complementary poppadums or similar. There was nothing, not even an apology. Secondly, the food we ordered was inedible. The curry we had ordered had been packed in such a way that it burst covering all other food and drink items, disintegrating the bag causing the food to burst out. After contacting the restaurant, we were made to feel this was our fault due to ordering from just eat rather than direct through the restaurant. Furthermore, i was not offered a refund and instead was made to wait more than an hour for a new delivery (with the restaurant for some reason refusing to provide new soft drinks), and ordered us to pack the food back up to return to the restaurant. This was not communicated with the delivery driver and caused an arguement. This is very disappointing however the restaurant has now lost two loyal customers.

the food was 40 minutes late and only just warm. 20 minutes in the oven meant we ate at 915 rather than the 815 we had planned. not good enough really as the delivery was probably one of so many and ours was last in line and the food was late and cold

Terrific food! Very fresh, tender and flavourful. Definitely cooked to order. Perfect, in fact! Not the 1st time and certainly not the last time we order from them! Great Chicken Tikka Masala, Mushroom Rice, Aubergine Baji, Tarka Dall! 😋🙌

Ordinarily, wouldn't really have bothered about the delay but on this occasion was the last thing needed. Overall, a great wee takeaway. Maybe I'll collect next time!

This meal was disappointing. The popadoms were burnt and tasted horrid (could have been very old oil that they used) - anyhow they to be binned. The pakora was saturated in oil and again had to be binned. I don't think I will order again from this place.

Food arriving 1 hour + before we wanted it was an issue. We decided not to send it back but it inconvenienced our evening leaving us feeling disappointed.

Food was great but missing a couple of items.

Decided to try somewhere different but ridiculously long wait has put us off using this place again. Food ordered at 5.30pm and delivered at 7.30. Food was ok but not nice enough to negate the wait time.

Wish we hadn't bothered. 2 hours wait which we wouldn't have minded if the food was worth it. Inedible chicken pakora that we couldn't get our teeth through. King prawn butterfly was in a very basic breadcrumb and fried to the point of being chewy and also Inedible. Poppadoms tasted like they had been fried in oil that fish had been cooked in. The naan was thick, doughy and tasteless. I was shocked as others reviews were so good but we will never order again.

Great food, especially the lamb and delivery was just about on time. However, the delivery driver rushed away, leaving our front gate wide open (which was closed when he came through) so our puppy got out as soon as we opened the door. Luckily it was a quiet evening and no cars on the road. Please next time, at least have the decency to close a gate behind you.

No wonder it was early - food was cold and tandoori chicken was dry. Never again.

It was ordered on a Monday evening so I expected it might not all have been freshly made. The chicken pakoras were a bit chewy, kind of overdone. I think they may have been re-fried. Tasty but tough. However there was nice salad and joghurt and sauces. The naan bread was a little charred but hot and tasty. The chicken saag was tasty if not a huge amount of chicken, for the price fair enough. I would order again, maybe later in the week. The delivery guy was polite.

Food was amazing as usual. I have a very fussy pregnant girlfriend who wont eat from anywhere else. Piping hot when it arrived. Delicious & Tasty. Delivery Driver was pleasant too

Slightly early but no problem. Food excellent as always

First time customers last night and we thoroughly enjoyed the food. The Prawn Puri in particular was excellent. Delivery was 25 minutes later than we expected and, whilst not a big issue, it would have been good to have got a text telling us it was on its way. Very nice food and we will use again. One star off for late delivery with no notification!

Food was lovely, wish restaurant would of phoned me to ask what juice I would like if no coke was available.

Order was late. We phoned and the person answering tried to fob us off by saying they weren't doing deliveries this evening and could we collect. I told him we had ordered for delivery via Just Eat and he then told us the driver was on his way and the food would be with us soon. We then had to phone again 25 minutes later because there was still no sign of our meal. When it finally did arrive nearly two hours after we'd ordered, the food needed to be reheated because it was tepid. That said, the food was tasty enough, it's just a shame the service was so bad. Honestly, if you're not willing to do deliveries, don't advertise on Just Eat as offering that service. I don't think we'll be ordering from here again.

Foods over hour late two half hours since ordered restraunt said was on way then twenty mins later for a 4min drive phoned back and lost order etc then finally arrives half hour after that with no poppadoms diet juice instead normal one luke warm curry's and cold pakora won't be back used once before was nice curry but not worth that hassle again

Food was lovely however was cold and needed to warm it up when it arrived so for that reason only 4 stars given for food quality.

I always order from the clay oven. They have a good range of vegetarian options for me and the food is always hot and on time.

Booked for collection for 6:30pm but got a message just after 6:00pm that it was ready for collection. Had to drop everything and head into Morningside. By the time I collected and got home the food had been sitting for a good 30 minutes. It was warm enough though. That being said, it was tasty and plenty of lamb in both dishes.

Food ready for collection over 10 minutes later than advised. That didn’t really bother me but the quality seemed considerably below previous experience. Disappointing.

I have used this place three times.first was fine.second time item missing.third I got a half inch square piece of plastic in main dish.I won't be using this place again.

Didn’t deliver everything I ordered, items missing. Tried to call them as soon as the food was delivered, nobody answered, so I emailed them, nobody replied. Won’t use them again.

Excellent Food delivered on time and very hot.

The food was not good and the most disappointing takeaway I have had in a very long time. The mushroom Puri filling was fine but the bread part arrived in a poly bag and was a soggy lump. The passanda whilst supposed to be mild was also completely tasteless and the vegetable jalfreizie consisted of mainly cabbage and peas and whilst a least a bit spicy still managed to be lacking in any real taste. Will definitely not be ordering again.

My son declares that no one else does Korma half as nice! We’ve gone to the Clay Oven for years and despite trying other places occasionally, always end up back there again.

The Clay oven has delicious food. They deliver withing the hour, climb high buildings to deliver. They are kind, I order from them often. Can highly reccomend

Food was great but i only got 4 small pieces of kebabs for £5 which is very dear compared to other places I've tried.

I was initially very impressed with a super quick delivery. The Pakora was greasy, stodgy, and seemed like a reheat. None of the main dishes, which were good sized portions, tasted like they had any fresh herbs and had no delicacy about them. The Pasanda probably the best of the bunch. The Nans were moist and tasty. The rice was OK but a bit dry. I had eaten in the Clay Oven before the restaurant closed and take away opened and have previously enjoyed the food. This meal standard was a great disappointment.

Really not good. Takeaway arrived and of the two curries we had one was far too salty and bland and the other was just about edible. Chicken in both was rubbery and felt cheap. Very disappointing meal overall. Won’t be trying again.

I’m afraid the quality of the chicken, in both dishes was very poor. Did not taste like fresh chicken. Either Frozen or re-heated. Very disappointed.

Just Eat said 60 mins - was delivered in 35 mins - fortunately I had got dressed! Plenty of food in each tray. Lamb well cooked Wife found the sag Chicken hotter than previously but it wasn't a problem I have had to give a restaurant rating to be able to submit this, but obviously we didn't attend the restaurant since we're in lockdown, so pls ignore

Food was good but had to reheat. Delivery 30 minutes late with a £3.50 charge on just eat, free on CLay Oven website. Will pick up in future.
