We were looking for somewhere to have our anniversary lunch, under the current Covid rules this was a little tricky. However, booked this the day before and ordered a bottle of champagne for our arrival with the understanding that we would sit at an outside table to drink this, as the weather was dry we decided to stay outside for our meal. Whilst their was a limited menu, the lentil soup with fresh bread was amazing, I then had the Thai chicken with rice and green salad, my partner had soups and Fish and Chips. Staff were attentive and very polite. Rain came on so we moved inside and we were recommended the homemade Ricotta cheese cake followed by a latte. Under the current circumstances the staff did a great job and the food was lovely even with a limited menu.

After a fabulous round of golf on The Carrick Course, my partner and I popped into the nineteenth for a quick drink before heading back to the holiday cottage, and discovered a real gem. The service was fantastic and the staff were friendly and accommodating. In fact we had to drop in every day for either a breakfast, which is a pure Scottish experience, or a drink after visiting the places of my partner's youth (but that's another story). I couldn't recommend this highly enough as the clubhouse has a fantastic view of the eighteenth green and even if you are not a golfer, there are walkways that will allow you to view the spectacular Loch Lomond from the golf course. Both of us felt very welcome and the measures they have in place at this time made us feel safe and well looked after. Well done to all involved and we plan to visit again at the earliest opportunity.

My wife and I had dinner at the Clubhouse on the evening before all licensed premises in the UK were forced to close. Despite the fact that the restaurant was virtually deserted the staff on duty, knowing they may lose their jobs the following day, were absolutely brilliant. We had a wonderful meal and fantastic service and despite my best efforts to buy them a drink they refused because they were on duty. My thoughts and best wishes are with all of them right now.

Loved the refurbishment much better use of space, a much simpler menu with a good selection, entertainment was nice, be good to add a 3 course special menu with some different offers ...I like that its now not a cut through for the Spa .On a selfish note ... be good to hear the sport on the TV whilst in the sitting area and not watch on the loop with subtitles...

For Valentine's Day we decided to go somewhere different. We had eaten at the Cameron House hotel Boat House restaurant some time ago and loved it, so the Cameron House Clubhouse seemed like the perfect place to try.The website is very confusing as the Clubhouse is continually referred to as part of the Cameron House Hotel. Even the postcode on the Clubhouse page was that of the Cameron House hotel, so we followed the post code using our in-car sat-nav system, only to find ourselves at the hotel and nowhere near the Clubhouse restaurant, which is actually at The Carrick golf course, some four miles away. There is no reference to The Carrick on any restaurant literature.Once at the Clubhouse we were warmly welcomed by the hostess who sat us and avoided our moans about the misguiding location, telling us that as we had finally made it we should relax and enjoy, which rather suggests that guests bemoaning the confusing directions are not something unusual. The food and service were excellent. We shared a large platter of chicken wings to start and opted for the hot whisky version, but they were a bit sweet, so, although tasty, next time we shall try the spicy buffalo version. The accompanying sauce for the wings was described as blue cheese dip, but the flavour did not resemble the description. It was a nondescript sauce with the consistency of yogurt. My wife had a Cameron burger main course, which was served on a wooden plank, piled high with two onion rings and a dill pickle atop the burger and a basket of freshly cooked hot chips on the side. I had the Scottish salmon fillet which was served with cherry tomatoes on the vine and baby broccoli. The fish, like my wife's burger, was delicious. I had a rocket and sun-dried tomato salad too, but next time I will ask to omit the rather-too-sweet dressing. We were too full to take on a dessert, so finished off with café latte. All in all, we had a lovely evening and we very much enjoyed the live music too. We will definitely return on a Friday since that is the only evening of the week that live music is on the menu.

I had planned to propose to my girlfriend (now wife to be!) on Christmas Eve and booked in for ginger bread house decorating for later that afternoon as a creative and fun activity post proposal. From the time I contacted The Club House to book on to this event (and confirm it was two adults who REALLY wanted to do this) to the moment we arrived the help and service was incredible. We had help to 'build' our 'house' not as easy as it seems!! and top tips on how to decorate from the staff. With our chefs hats on (and a celebratory beer having just gotten engaged) we embarked on the task and had an absolute ball. We are now enjoying eating our house and the many, many sweets stuck to it. We would like to thank all the staff at The Club House for making it a really great experience.

We had a day spa which was excellent. Had a meal at the Clubhouse later. It used to be the Claret Jug but has had a rename and refurbishment since we last ate there. Alas, the refurbishment includes 3 huge televisions, all sports channel! I could understand if there was one in the lounge around the corner (there was another there too), but those televisions in the restaurant totally ruined it for us. There were many people eating there, no one goes for a meal to be surrounded by sports tv, nobody was watching them. The meal was lovely and the staff were very good. I would have loved to give it 5 stars but unfortunately we will not be going again due to the ambience, which has been ruined.

Particularly like the range of comfortable seating and big screen TVs for the sports lovers. The menu is typical - burgers, steaks, wraps etc. We ate here twice during our stay: once in the restaurant, and once just a snack in the sitting area. Service was great - especially the young man serving us in the restaurant.Food was also good, if just a little over priced. We also ate at the boat house who had introduced a fantastic lodge set menu, which was excellent value. I’d love to see similar at the clubhouse.

We played golf here on our day off while working nearby, the golf was excellent and will definitely be back. However we stayed to eat in the newly refurbished club house, this was less impressive. The decor was very nice however, The steak we had was average, both were slightly over cooked but not enough to bother sending back, it was nothing special and a little grisly, the main issue was cost which was over priced and more than a little misleading. The prices for the same drink varied, a pint of lager was initially £5.25 but then was £5.60, the Cidre went from £4.60 to £5.60 and the glass of red wine was £6.25 on the menu but was £8 on the bill! So my advice is check the bill before leaving! Also they add a 10% service charge to the bill without asking, I’ll decide if and what to tip if you don’t mind! Two steaks a side each and 5 drinks between us for £105 I would expect better and certainly would expect the pricing and menus to be accurate.

Was quite confused with the set menu which had limited items and was £30 , other tables seemed to be having burgers, macaroni etc which never appeared on the menu. Portion size was very small and should have been so much better, pork cutlet is not an expensive meat but was just over bite size after removing the fat, not good enough for a main meal and the cost and accompanied by less than a handful of chips. We stayed at a Lodge at Loch Lomond and visited the Claret Jug on two occasions, the first time was for a coffee after using the facilities of the Carrick Spa. We walked into the Restaurant and there was one table only with one member of staff talking to the guests and another clearing tables. We sat down and waited and waited. Finally I had to get up and ask if anyone was serving or if we had to go to the bar for service. A waiter came over and took our order. The coffee was lukewarm. On our second visit we thought we would have brunch. Upon arrival we waited to be seated but the two members of staff behind the bar were talking to each other. They didn't interrupt their chat to show us to our table so we sat down and waited. One of the members of staff left the bar and we thought that she was going to bring us a menu but she didn't. In the end we decided just to have a drink, again I had to go to the member of staff at the bar and ask for service. Will not be returning

I have played golf as a guest at the Carrick many times, and have always dined at the Claret Jug either before or after the golf depending on our tee off time. Today, we had 'lunch' before the golf, choosing from the lunch rather than a la carte menu.Since my last visit, the ownership has apparently changed, and quite obviously, the prices have dramatically increased, which as a guest, actually I had second thoughts about ordering due to the costs my host would incur, compared to what I would spend when hosting at my own traditional golf club down in Ayrshire. Have what you like insisted my host, so I opted for the 'Pie of the Day', having been informed that this was a steak pie. £12, but ok - accompanied with mushy peas and chips.I was presented after a short while, with a plate of food which I can only describe as a disgrace. Had I been able to, this review would have a zero dots rating. The 'pie of the day' was nothing more than a poor quality Scotch type pie you would purchase in any supermarket, but this lacked the quality of those available in the supermarket. The pie crust was like cardboard, and the grey coloured filling was tasteless, of a chewy texture and of indeterminate origin - steak? I have my doubts. The 'pie' was accompanied with some brown gloop served in a jug purporting to be gravy along with some smeared garden peas which had a few seconds in a food blender and some overcooked, verging on burnt chips. As I am diabetic, I choked the food down as I needed it to get round the golf, but it was disgraceful that it was served at all, never mind for £12. I don't know of any chef of competence that would not make their own steak pie and pastry, and actually, if you are reading this Claret Jug, mushy peas are slow cooked marrowfat peas, and NOT frozen garden pease whizzed in a blender and then smeared on the plate in a laughable attempt at food art! The chef that allowed that plate of food to leave his kitchen should be ashamed of himself. If he is told what to serve by the new owners, then they should be ashamed of themselves. As I have written a few reviews on trip advisor, I always like to see the positive rather than the negative in my reviews. In this case, the positive is that I would serve the food I had to the dog. It was better than the dried kibble it gets for its food, but only better by a narrow margin. Top tip, if you are golfing at the Carrick, get your food elsewhere before you arrive!

We were a party of eight at the Claret Jug four of whom are golf members .The food is overpriced for what it is and a number of items were unavailable .The Prawn cocktail starter at £12. 50 was very small prawns served in a half pint jar with sauce on the side , no bread or salad .The Haggis pie was tasty but was not a pie and came with home made potato scone the size of a ten pence piece. The devilled kidneys dish was available but they had no kidneys ?A request for boiled potatoes was refused as they had no potatoes (how do they make there mashed )All in all very disappointing but The waiting staff were very good but let down by the kitchen / management .Fine dining prices without the fine dining experience .kidney dish was available but they had no kidneys ?

Staying at our Cameron House lodge we took the courtesy shuttle to the Claret Jug for dinner. No starters ordered and my wife enjoyed the salmon and cod duo while I had haddock and chips with mushy peas...sorry pea which had been micronised and hidden under the fish!...which was a poor size given the price of the meal.Wine list did not reflect what was on their internet page and prices had increased.New owners had also replaced a jolly good Belhaven ale with a lighter Cameron ale which also most probably increases their profitability. All in all a disappointing expensive meal rescued only by a pleasant waiter.

The Claret Jug decor is looking shabby and tired. It needs a refurbishment which I understand may be happening in January 2018. Love the comfortable relaxing sofas and chairs by the fire, but the restaurant is dim, lacking in comfort and atmosphere. The glass panelling behind the seats near to the bar was dirty and streaky as if some attempt had been made to clean it but not polished, seat cushions needed plumped up, The whole place felt a little unloved. The food was tasty, well presented and reasonably good value. The outstanding aspect of the visit is the fantastic member of staff, Mark. We have been served by him on a number of occasions and his genuine manner, humour and professionalism should not go unrewarded by his manager. He is a credit to the establishment and helps you to forget the downsides as mentioned above. Looking forward to the refurb which will have to be high spec, polished and efficient if it to attract more American golfers that is the intention!!!!!

Waited nearly 10 minutes but no one came over to take our order or even acknowledged our existence. Got fed up and left. Particularly disappointing as we own a week at one of the lodges at the Carrick, and poor service at the facilities adversely affects the value and rentability of the property.Currently sitting in Scots Bar at Cameron House. Order taken in 3.5 minutes. That's more like it!

Visited Claret Jug as part of an evening spa and 2 course dinner voucher deal bought by son as a present. We skipped the spa bit and went straight for the meal. The deal had a limited very poor choice of unappealing dishes such as haggis pie, cod cheeks and cauliflower and cheese soup. None of the starters appealed to me but wife chose the soup. She only managed half of it as it was too salty. Of the main courses only the burger appeared eatable to both of us. However, the burger produced was probably the worst we have ever had - we could have had a much better one at a fraction of the cost at the golden arches. The peach melba mess was good. Altogether a very disappointing meal and cannot recommend eating here.

Decent spa facilityupstairs but really let down by 1) Food quality & 2) Management attitude towards complaints at the Claret jug. Sent in a private complaint as on two occasions the food was unsatisfactory- Food was terrible and the second time i had to wait 30 mins for food to come out even though the restaurant was empty. When it did eventually come out, the bread was stale and the rest of it was disgusting to say the least. On complaining, i was asked for my email address for more details but i never heard back from the "kitchen manager" even after asking if they received my email, Poor customer service and terrible food is letting the place down, Will definitely skip the food next time im at the spa.... One star is generous

Hello Adventurers, This beautiful Scottish evening we took a trip over to Loch Lomond to enjoy the breathtaking scenery, and sought out to calm our hunger at The Claret Jug. The atmosphere is set by the view, I would recommend either sitting outside or close to the windows to soak in the utter beauty of the surroundings. The food was very tasty, I ordered the steak, which was excellently seasoned and executed to my cooking order (I love it when the chef listens to the request), the Chucky chips were an excellent compliment and were proper chips (not soaked in oils). My partner in crime had the lamb which she found also very tasty and came with delightful sides. For dessert, a narrow picking, and unfortunately pretty standard serving. The staff were a little slow and maybe if I even dare call them a little dull? I am a big fan of welcoming and attentive staff, something that can make or break an establishment in my opinion. In summary, the setting was amazing, the food was good, the service was ok. Good for friends and family, not so good for date night.

Our daughter gave us a Cameron House voucher for The Claret Jug restaurant which we were looking forward to using and did so yesterday. If we had been paying it would have been £12.50 each for our starter of prawns which was very poorly presented in a small glass tumbler with one small lettuce leaf and half a cherry tomato. The sauce was placed in a ramekin, tomato sauce and tasted like Tabasco mixed through. Unappetizing and tasteless. Main - I had hamburger with trimmings, very salty. My Husband had steak. All very tasteless. I was sorry my daughter had paid for this, but she was sold with the Cameron House name, thinking it would be a lovely meal. On the contrary it was awful ! Certainly won't be back.

We ate a meal in The Claret Jug after visiting the spa. We asked for a window table, which we were told was reserved. When I pointed out that we had also reserved, the waitress said the table was reserved for a group of 4 (even though my husband and I were being directed to a large table for 6 in the main thoroughfare!). We asked about a different table for 2 and were 'allowed' to sit there. The food was nice enough, but quite expensive and wine was particularly pricey. Due to lack of communication between the reception and driver, we also had a very long wait for the courtesy car back to the hotel, during which time we saw another couple seated at the table we requested. Never found out why this was, as the manager said she 'didn't think it was such a big deal' for us! We did enjoy our meal, but the service let it down.

Recently dined here with some American friends who love golf. It's a lovely venue and the food was good but the service let it down.We were taken to our table but had to ask for our drinks order to be taken. It took a while for the drinks to eventually arrive and when they did we were missing one - yet another wait. Our food arrived and it was fine but again we had to chase up the server to take our order of drinks. For desserts some of us ordered the ice cream - we asked what flavours were available and were told that one of them was toffee - I ordered that as did my husband and our American friends - turned out toffee was actually banoffee (which I loathe!). After the wait for the dessert we couldn't be bothered complaining! In summary, food and surroundings were nice but they need to be a bot more on the ball with their service as it was too slow.

We visited the Claret Jug as part of a package with the Carrick Spa, about £80 for both.I accept that is a bargain when compared to the separate costs for each combined. The Spa is excellent and can't be faulted. The rooftop infinity jacuzzi is gorgeous. However the Claret Jug just isn't !Our starters, Haggis Pie and Cod Cheeks were good but the main courses, burger and pot roasted chicken weren't.We've had much better burgers for half the price and the pot roasted chicken was pretty dry , fairly limited in quantity and had a bone arranged in the middle of it that about broke my teeth when I bit it.The waiter seemed to think I should have known there would be a bone in the middle of the meat and gave us a visual demonstration of how the wing has bones in it by flapping his arm about.I know that chickens are vertebrates but I don't expect to find their bones in the middle of my dinner !!

If we get great quality food, with attentive service in a great restaurant we're happy to pay the price. But there's no escaping the fact the prices here are very 'toppy' for something which is less than pleasant. The menu choice is reasonable, although far from extensive, and starters in the £8 - £9.50 range is really pushing it for items like soup or pate. An interesting starter seemed to be the Mull Cheddar and Mustard croquettes but they were nothing but deep fried mashed potato, completely lacking in any discernible taste. Some of the mains were reasonable - the duo of cod and salmon is recommended - but friends ordered an extra side dish which never arrived. But what really, really lets this place down (for the price) is the restaurant itself. It is, in the end, a confused mix of golf clubhouse, restaurant and thoroughfare for the adjoining spa. The wooden tables, no tablecloths here, are sticky with spilt beer and we had to ask for missing cutlery. It's just not good enough for the prices which suggest the level to which it aspires. And I really dislike 10% service being added to the bill - it should always be discretionary.

We went to the boathouse for dinner on 20/4/2017, the food was lovely and the young female server was excellent, very pleasant, happy at her work, nothing was a bother. She was the most attentive customer focussed staff member I met throughout my stay at Cameron house There was a 10% tip automatically added to the restaurant bill which I personally feel should be at the customers discretion and thought was a bit off, as up to that point , the service we received at reception, concierge etc certainly wouldn't merit any tip. (Different review)However our sever was very good and most pleasant After our meal we went through for a drink at bar within the boathouse however there was a member of staff bringing an alcohol delivery/stocking bar at 10:15pm and had the doors wide open whilst unloading the order meaning bar was pretty chilly and not the most relaxing after dinner to enjoy a drink and let your dinner settle.

Ate early evening 6pm as part of a meal and evening spa package - spa is in the same complex a short drive from the main hotel - started with a haggis pie followed by a burger that was served with twice cooked chips and onion rings. The burger and chips were home made, very enjoyable and large portions. Served on a brioche bun which seems to be a thing these days but I find them a bit sweet and too much bun!Service was good - efficient, formal but with a relaxed friendly tone. Nice views onto the golf course.Only thing was the staff were getting a bit stressed the busier it got, either they needed more staff or someone with more experience just to calm things down a bit.Would go back.

What can I say apart from being blown away with the amazing service at the restaurant during my 3 day stay at this resort. The staff went above and beyond any expectations I had. Being very polite and courteous the staff welcome you at the door, take your coat and hang this up for you. Attend to your every requirement by first showing you to a table, even if this was not pre reserved. The service was fast, efficient and exactly what I would have expected in such a fine catering establishment. One member of staff did have a bit of a cold and under the circumstances should have been told not to attend work due to handling food. Overall, this was an outstanding experience and one that I want to experience again soon. Pre booking a table is recommended as it can be very busy at times. One member of staff even offered a lift in their car as it was so wet outside and I had forgot to take my umbrella with me. The manners of the staff are superior to any other establishment I have visited in a while. Well done to all and keep up the excellent standards.

My husband and I went for lunch. We had been to the Boat House at Cameron House earlier in the week and had a fantastic burger so decided to have the same. The description on the menu was identical although the price was £3 cheaper at the Claret Jug. It was a completely different and inferior burger. The roll was poor, the bacon rubbery, the onion relish was missing (had to ask for this and when it came it was obviously out of a jar, rather than the homemade looking one at the Boat House), the roll was covered in mayo which I don't like and wasn't stated on the menu. I would have preferred to pay more and have had a decent burger. At £14.50 is isn't cheap either! The staff were friendly and helpful, but not the pleasant and bright atmosphere of the Boat House. Also, on visiting the Ladies toilets there was blood on the lock of the door, which was rather unpleasant! Overall, improved attention to detail required and I will not be returning.

All ordering was done very professionally, drinks and food were served without any problems. The only issue today was the minute steak was as tough as old boots. It was very tasty though, perhaps I had the wrong teeth in today. I'm pretty sure if I had complained then it would have been swapped or a refund offered.

I recently visited and stayed at the Lodges at The Carrick with my family where I had the opportunity to eat both breakfast and dinner at the Claret Jug so I am well placed to review the restaurant... which is unfortunate as I found it utterly disappointing. To begin with, the restaurant is on site at the Carrick Spa, which is a lovely place and quite exclusively, therefore it's really the only feasible place to go for dinner and drinks. This is reflected in the prices which are exorbitantly high, for example £5.95 for toast and a coffee (more on this later.) Paying a fair bit for a meal is not a problem as long as the quality reflects the price, unfortunately for the claret jug it's quality is more akin to a 24 hour little chef. We waited 20 minutes after being seated at dinner to even place a drinks order, luckily we managed to order food at the same time. The food was then a further 50 minutes and what we received was awful, I have had better food in my local pub without a doubt. I had the penne pasta which was cold and entirely flavourless, it was almost remarkable how flavourless it was, considering it came in so much creamy sauce, which wasn't what was described on the menu, and was frankly a bit sickening. Everyone else at the table agreed their food was bland and cold, only the chips received praise. This is simply not good enough for a restaurant at such a quality hotel and at such prices. The next day, because of no alternative we had breakfast here. I would have preferred a petrol station coffee and a mars bar to be honest. We faced another long wait despite being the only customers eating (a reflection on the quality) and then had to wait 35 minutes for our food. The coffee was weak and ridiculously hot and the only way to describe the food we received is laughable. My cat could probably prepare toast better than what we received (photo attached), add to this that we had to actually ask for the jam which was supposed to be included and then consider that you pay £6 more or less for this you will understand why you should avoid eating here at all costs. My only praise would be that the waiters and waitresses are very polite when you do manage to get one to pay your table any attention. Management at Cameron house need to sort out the Claret Jug immediately, including a totally new kitchen (a chef that could make toast would be a good starting point) otherwise the restaurant could be a serious detriment to what is otherwise a beautiful place to stay.
