Had a wonderful lunch. James was very accommodating and made us feel really welcome. Best fish and chips in London too.

The pub is very nicely decorated and the food was top notch! We were served by James who was lovely, very warm and friendly and made us feel very looked after.

Great food and drinks and even better service

The fish and chips are extra large, crunchy, and extremely delicious (19.5 lbs.). There is a wait of about 30 minutes after ordering, so it is recommended if you have plenty of time. I actually came here for the Sunday roast, but it was only available on Sundays.

Served by Lisa, very welcoming and friendly, gave a wonderful experience, lovely traditional London pub. Great food, good value for money, great conversation. A wonderful place both for people familiar with London and not familiar. We came for a brief stay in London and throughly enjoyed our time at the Clarence. Thank you Lisa for such excellent service.

Stopped off for a drink on the way to a show at The Trafalgar Theatre. Decent range of beers (important to a bitter drinker) Priced as to be expected in this part of town. Service was quick and friendly. Atmosphere was busy, but friendly.

Stopped in for lunch and we both had a really good bowl of soup. Also a couple of classic Adnams on cask. Toilets were clean.

The atmosphere is great! Especially the sofa area~the air conditioner is very cool. One of the few fish and chips that tastes good! Be careful if you don’t like salt

Great little pub on the centre of the boring sights of London. I joke. . No 10. Horse guards just down from trafalgar. But there are only so many white granite buildings you can take. I would say stop here or one of the other pubs very close on the way from West end to vestment if you are walking. Traditional English pub fayre . Excellent service.

stopped in for lunch and had a great experience! The food was delicious (especially if you're looking for a good fish and chips) and our server Maria was amazing. So friendly and helpful, we would definitely come back on our next trip to London.

The perfect pub In my opinion. Been there during the champions league final with Dortmund supporters. We ate burgers and chips and it was great. I really like the British atmosphere in the club and the beer was cold and tasted really good. Highly recommended.

No service, take your drink and move upstairs. Chocolate was served in a dirty glass. Only decoration is worth it.

Lovely place! The servers were very kind and there was an overal cool and calm environment. And the food was amazing. Really recommend the chicken and ham pie, that was absolutely delicious. Warming for the soul. The entiriour was also beatifull, like a nice old English pub. This was our first time dining in England, and they set the bar really high.

Impressive older building on a corner site towards the top of Whitehall a minute or two down from the Square. Some good sized and proportioned grandish but relaxed and hospitable rooms. At the pricier end of even central London pubs but friendly and an interesting ambience. Spoken to unprompted by some affable absolute strangers who were plainly regulars. Obviously keen to talk Olympics, cricket, transatlantic politics and the sweltering heat. Only here for maybe 45mins but began to get a convivial feel for the place. Felt it was a good place to return in a group friends and maybe family. There seem to be an established string of events and perhaps corporate or social clubby events in the fancier rooms upstairs eg one of the bar staff was enthusing about renown sessions on an early Tuesday each month called The Onyx.

Haven't been to the Clarence for years but was there for a leaving do. Drinks were pricey but then you're in Westminster and its a tourist pub so you get that. The chips were delicious but the onion rings were probably the best I've ever had. I told the bar staff that too. Bar staff were really friendly and one brought my drink over when it was left behind...she knew it was mine as I was the only Aperol drinker in the group

Great chef and as result very great menu and food . I suggest this pub for quick snack and drink after work or take the family over for tasty sunday roast .

We discovered this really welcoming and very British pub. We loved the dishes offered which are very good and plentiful, the roasts are really excellent with great, very fresh and quality products. Excellent address close to Buckingham and Trafalgar Square. To do if you are in the area.

We were robbed of a phone by a fake beggar they let in. When we told the staff they showed no simpathy whatsoever. The food was also terrible and overpriced. It’s a tourist trap handled by rude people. Avoid at all costs.

Very cozy place for a break from sightseeing in a central London location. The staff is very friendly, extremely helpful and very attentive. Among other things, customers are asked about any food allergies they may have. The food and beer taste very good and are available at a reasonable price-performance ratio for this location. It's worth a visit.

Beautiful pub found in the most ideal location, just away from the chaos at the top of the street, The Clarence offered us a perfect spot to grab some food, recharge & get back out to explore. The team were incredible helpful & friendly, nothing was too much. Thank you for making our day out that little bit more special.

The Clarence was a perfect retreat for us on a rainy day while we wandered around. We walked in and got a fantastic table next to the window. The service was so fast and efficient despite a lot of customers. The food was terrific. We had fish and chips and a sausage roll; both dishes were yummy, and the portions were generous. The waitress was great and very amusing. We also enjoyed some lemon-based spritz, and that was great, too. Everything was also very reasonably priced. Thanks for giving us a perfect taste of London.

The Scotch Eggs are a Clarence Pub house specialty. What a treat! Delecious British fare doesn’t get better. Service friendly and professional. Highly recommended.

We are British but live in USA so coming to London is a highlight for us and the food here is absolutely amazing! Bangers and mash for sure !!

The Clarence took our post Pride in London booking and couldn't have been more welcoming. They made sure our area was clear, and that service was fast and friendly. The area we had was not too loud and had good disabled toilet. We're a disability charity so access is particularly important for us. The pub has a wheelchair ramp, but we didn't use it as our chair users left after the march so can't comment. Overall a great accessible welcome - big thanks to staff!

Haven't been for a few years and it looks like it's been nicely refurbished since I last visited. Great service from efficient and friendly bar staff.

What a great pub! We were lucky enough to get a Scotch egg and it was so delicious and cooked perfectly. The chicken and leek pie was our other choice and it was so amazing. Nice and flaky and the chicken was so tender. Just writing this makes me want to have another! Highly recommended!

Stopped here for a drink and was pleasantly surprised at the friendliness of the staff & general ambiance. There were a few tables outside which is quite a busy road but great for people watching! Indoors had a nice feel, traditional pub but with nice decor. Used the toilets also which were nice & clean.

Staff were fantastic, welcoming, down to earth and lovely. The ploughman's we order came out fresh with the best, fresh hot, home made scotch eggs that we have ever has! Highly highly recommended to all

The most uninspired cocktail I have had in a long time. Made with zero love, in a big glass, with no flourish and precious little alcohol. Just order beer if you come here. Staff uninterested. Ambiance decent.

We ate very well, on the top floor, served by a very friendly girl. Fish and chips, hamburger, chicken salad and bangers and mash. Strong dishes. Attention Spaniards. The pints are about 6 pounds. Otherwise good food for €32 in exchange. London is expensive. The staff in general was very friendly and attentive.

Lovely staff. Good Fish n Chips, and a good selection of beers. I had a pint of Adnams Ghost Ship, a Suffolk beer brewed in Suffolk.

Very good Sunday roast chicken. Carrot soup a bit bland. Waldorf salad also a bit bland. Service was very nice. If you are in London on a Sunday, would definitely recommend the chicken.

We arrived at a slightly odd time, since getting food + seats seemed to take forever. Ordering online via QR food was much faster, but no one told us that was an option (just noticed someone do it). The food itself (we had fish&chips and pies) were great, but rather expensive. Extremely friendly staff. Kudos for bartrender, made extremely good drinks!

By flight in London, only a few hours available. Apart from the obligatory places to visit, the plan was to eat English food and it seems that it worked. The Clarence has a cool English atmosphere, great fish and chips, delicious side dishes, great beer. What else do you need to take away nice memories? Service! Despite heavy traffic in 45 minutes. we were full and drunk, respect for the staff. Izabela broke the bank!!!! She gave great advice, provided information efficiently, and what's more, she's a very nice and interesting girl who, despite her workload, still managed to talk to the locals. Look for it, the food will taste even better! We have no experience, but in our opinion this is what an English pub should look like!!!! Greetings, Pilgrims from Santiago de Compostela. P.S. Warning: Professional pickpockets are operating in this pub I was sitting inside the Clarence at a table. A dark-haired girl with a medical face mask came in the main entrance. She was begging for money, indicating that she was hungry. She was standing there for minutes. There were at least three people from staff around me, but they did not intervene. A waitress was standing right next to the girl. As I was not willing to open my purse, she gapped my phone and run away. I told the staff what happened. The reaction of the waiter was simply “ok” and he turned away, totally not interested in the situation. The staff didn’t even had the decency to show me the way to the next police station. You should feel save in a pub. The opposite is true for the Clarence. I can just advise anybody to stay away from this place. It was one of the worst experiences of my live.

Looks like someone else had a similar experience of being blatantly ignored by staff. Fair enough we arrived during a busy period and had to sit upstairs and bar/restaurant downstairs and outside was full. Upstairs was pretty quiet, only a few tables sat with food/drinks. Completely ignored by the bartender, yes he was in the middle of things but seemed as he was only able to serve one table at a time (very inefficient and not logical). I thought I might need to order at the bar, possibly giving him a little less to do as it saves him coming out twice. I’m stood like clearly invisible to him and then after about 5 minutes, without even looking at me, he says “I’m coming to you next”. I go back to my table and wait.. Where he then doesn’t actually come to me next but goes and takes the order of another table (who also seemed to be waiting for an unnecessarily long time). We’d been there about 20 minutes and no service, sorry but if you don’t have time for us we don’t have time for you, I’ll happily take my business elsewhere. Overall, terrible service and rude staff. Shouldn’t have even bothered giving it a try when reading other reviews about poor experience.
