The Clarence in City of London, Westminster

Our first time visiting this wonderful place and being "out of towners" were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome we received at the door by James ( nice touch) . The reception, feel, general atmosphere was great and the Sunday dinner was beautiful and well needed. We'll 100% be back on our next visit. Thank you James to you and your lovely staff 😊

I Stopped in with a couple of friends for a Sunday Roast. The food was incredible and very generous portion sizes. We were seated and looked after by Kim and a few others on the team. The staff were friendly and attentive but just enough to still allow you to relax. Although this is central (minutes walk from trafalgar square), the atmosphere was relaxed and very similar to that of an old English country pub. We will definitely be back

The pub itself is lovely! The interior has been kept so well and it was incredibly clean for such a busy pub. The staff were all lovely and attentive, especially the manager Kim! The service was fast, we only waited around 5 minutes for our food which was fresh and delicious and a super generous size! Absolutely would recommend, 10/10.

Had my first ever Sunday Roast and let me tell you it did not disappoint!! It was so tasty and such a well balanced meal paired with a refreshing pint of cider. Decor was beautiful and staff were so lovely which is an added bonus. Will definitely come back next time I visit London

Sunday sharing roast is great! Deffo one to pop in for. Sat in the dinning room upstairs and service was on point. Roast was banging! A must try if you are in the area!! Thanks guys will be back!!

Amazing service here, the GM Kim and all the staff were so kind and fun! Great food too. I had the beef Sunday roast and the portions are huge with lots of flavour.

Booked a table online. Walked in. No one greeted us. Ignored at bar for about 5 mins. Asked a waiter standing in corner where our booked table was. “I’m not sure.” At that point we walked out.

It was a very good experience. Michael was the BEST host, he recommended us some food and It was all very very good. I hope we can come back soon.

The inside of the store is a little small, but the atmosphere is perfect. The fish and chips, burger, and coke cost about 10,000 yen, but the fish was so crispy and delicious that it almost overflowed from the plate.

We were in London for a few days holiday and decided to stop here for drinks. We came across The Clarence by chance and we are so pleased that we did. The staff at the bar were so nice and we got our drinks and a lovely table to sit at to enjoy them. We ordered another couple of drinks and decided that the food that everyone was having around us looked good and we opted to have dinner here in the pub instead of heading to a restaurant. Best decision we made, the food -1 fish and chips and 1 sausage and mash and a side of onion rings was amazing! This was our last day and it was the best food we had eaten in London throughout our whole 4 days. We will definitely return the next time we are in London. There was a lovely atmosphere too, a great traditional pub, with lovely staff and great service.

Went to The Clarence specifically for their Scotch Egg and it didn’t disappointed. Service was friendly and quick. Atmosphere was great and very quiet (went around 4pm). The Scotch Egg was delicious, running egg and comes with a sauce on the side. Perfect fusion of flavours. Definitely recommend this pub and will come back for sure!

Great Atmosphere, but Serious Hygiene Concern Raised I recently visited this popular tourist spot, and overall, the ambiance and food were enjoyable. However, I wanted to share an important concern. During my visit, I went to the restroom and saw a male employee using the facilities while wearing silicone gloves, which he did not remove or wash after use. I brought this to our server’s attention, who politely thanked me and asked for a description of the employee. I understand that this place sees a high volume of tourists, and many might not check reviews like this, but I felt it was worth mentioning for the sake of public health and safety. A small change in hygiene practice could make a big difference in ensuring a safe experience for everyone.

Best chicken pie in London! Lisa, Judith & Maria were wonderful and very accommodating. The sticky toffee pudding is also amazing! Must visit if you’re near Trafalgar Square. You won’t regret it! ❤️🫶

Great place to eat,drink and be merry! Really good traditional vibe, staff attentive and friendly. Food is outstanding.. must haves- ploughman's, scotch egg and the roast dinners are spectacular 😋

I will.return to delveore deeply into the menu which was pretty stout with food options. Beer-wise was a better than average selection and served by some of the most lovely humans in London

The beer was lovely. But there I left a present for my pregnant wife. Half an hour after I left it, I went back and asked the staff, but they replied that they had never seen it. Then I saw a male employee next to me secretly laughing. Of course, I can't be sure that I'm suspicious. However, it wasn't easy to get rid of my doubts when I saw the staff shouting no at first sight and the staff laughing secretly around me as soon as I asked. They told me to be careful of pickpockets in the UK, but I think the staff at the local restaurant should also be careful. I want to tell everyone who goes here to be careful of things.

I definitely wouldn't recommend eating here as the food was pretty appalling. Ordered a roast and it arrived stone cold. After sending it back, it was returned with hot potatoes, but everything else was still cold and with some of the vegetables missing. We also weren't given fresh gravy or even cutlery. We gave up and just tried to make the best of it, but definitely will go somewhere else next time. Toilets were absolutely filthy, sanitary bin overflowing and water all over the floor, which didn't fill me with confidence in terms of cleanliness standards. The pub itself is beautiful and in a great spot in the middle of Whitehall, so if you do go, give the food a miss and just stick to a pint (and avoid the toilets!).

The pub is very nicely decorated and the food was top notch! We were served by James who was lovely, very warm and friendly and made us feel very looked after.

Had a wonderful lunch. James was very accommodating and made us feel really welcome. Best fish and chips in London too.

Great food and drinks and even better service

I’m Ash from Melbourne, Australia. My family of four met up with our relatives who live in London for lunch. A cosy atmosphere with very friendly and helpful staff. Multiple dining areas. Excellent Sunday Roast that was exceptionally presented!! Tasted great. They also some interesting boutique beers. We had a great time!! Highly recommend.

The fish and chips are extra large, crunchy, and extremely delicious (19.5 lbs.). There is a wait of about 30 minutes after ordering, so it is recommended if you have plenty of time. I actually came here for the Sunday roast, but it was only available on Sundays.

Good choice for beers and wine. Good service but found little bit too noisy.

Stopped off for a drink on the way to a show at The Trafalgar Theatre. Decent range of beers (important to a bitter drinker) Priced as to be expected in this part of town. Service was quick and friendly. Atmosphere was busy, but friendly.

Stopped in for lunch and we both had a really good bowl of soup. Also a couple of classic Adnams on cask. Toilets were clean.

The atmosphere is great! Especially the sofa area~the air conditioner is very cool. One of the few fish and chips that tastes good! Be careful if you don’t like salt

Great little pub on the centre of the boring sights of London. I joke. . No 10. Horse guards just down from trafalgar. But there are only so many white granite buildings you can take. I would say stop here or one of the other pubs very close on the way from West end to vestment if you are walking. Traditional English pub fayre . Excellent service.

The perfect pub In my opinion. Been there during the champions league final with Dortmund supporters. We ate burgers and chips and it was great. I really like the British atmosphere in the club and the beer was cold and tasted really good. Highly recommended.

No service, take your drink and move upstairs. Chocolate was served in a dirty glass. Only decoration is worth it.

Lovely place! The servers were very kind and there was an overal cool and calm environment. And the food was amazing. Really recommend the chicken and ham pie, that was absolutely delicious. Warming for the soul. The entiriour was also beatifull, like a nice old English pub. This was our first time dining in England, and they set the bar really high.

Absolutely great ! I am lactose intolerant and they managed to completely adapt my meal. Kim (our waitress) was very nice, helpful and had a lovely smile.

Impressive older building on a corner site towards the top of Whitehall a minute or two down from the Square. Some good sized and proportioned grandish but relaxed and hospitable rooms. At the pricier end of even central London pubs but friendly and an interesting ambience. Spoken to unprompted by some affable absolute strangers who were plainly regulars. Obviously keen to talk Olympics, cricket, transatlantic politics and the sweltering heat. Only here for maybe 45mins but began to get a convivial feel for the place. Felt it was a good place to return in a group friends and maybe family. There seem to be an established string of events and perhaps corporate or social clubby events in the fancier rooms upstairs eg one of the bar staff was enthusing about renown sessions on an early Tuesday each month called The Onyx.

Haven't been to the Clarence for years but was there for a leaving do. Drinks were pricey but then you're in Westminster and its a tourist pub so you get that. The chips were delicious but the onion rings were probably the best I've ever had. I told the bar staff that too. Bar staff were really friendly and one brought my drink over when it was left behind...she knew it was mine as I was the only Aperol drinker in the group

Great chef and as result very great menu and food . I suggest this pub for quick snack and drink after work or take the family over for tasty sunday roast .

We were robbed of a phone by a fake beggar they let in. When we told the staff they showed no simpathy whatsoever. The food was also terrible and overpriced. It’s a tourist trap handled by rude people. Avoid at all costs.

We discovered this really welcoming and very British pub. We loved the dishes offered which are very good and plentiful, the roasts are really excellent with great, very fresh and quality products. Excellent address close to Buckingham and Trafalgar Square. To do if you are in the area.

Very cozy place for a break from sightseeing in a central London location. The staff is very friendly, extremely helpful and very attentive. Among other things, customers are asked about any food allergies they may have. The food and beer taste very good and are available at a reasonable price-performance ratio for this location. It's worth a visit.

Beautiful pub found in the most ideal location, just away from the chaos at the top of the street, The Clarence offered us a perfect spot to grab some food, recharge & get back out to explore. The team were incredible helpful & friendly, nothing was too much. Thank you for making our day out that little bit more special.

The Clarence was a perfect retreat for us on a rainy day while we wandered around. We walked in and got a fantastic table next to the window. The service was so fast and efficient despite a lot of customers. The food was terrific. We had fish and chips and a sausage roll; both dishes were yummy, and the portions were generous. The waitress was great and very amusing. We also enjoyed some lemon-based spritz, and that was great, too. Everything was also very reasonably priced. Thanks for giving us a perfect taste of London.

We are British but live in USA so coming to London is a highlight for us and the food here is absolutely amazing! Bangers and mash for sure !!

We had the fish and chips and the sausage roll both were absolutely fantastic. We really enjoyed the food. We also watched the football.

The Clarence took our post Pride in London booking and couldn't have been more welcoming. They made sure our area was clear, and that service was fast and friendly. The area we had was not too loud and had good disabled toilet. We're a disability charity so access is particularly important for us. The pub has a wheelchair ramp, but we didn't use it as our chair users left after the march so can't comment. Overall a great accessible welcome - big thanks to staff!

What a great pub! We were lucky enough to get a Scotch egg and it was so delicious and cooked perfectly. The chicken and leek pie was our other choice and it was so amazing. Nice and flaky and the chicken was so tender. Just writing this makes me want to have another! Highly recommended!
