We were staying in the area for a long weekend and went out for dinner. The menu is not huge which to me is a good thing. The goats cheese, beetroot and pear was lovely, and the venison scotch egg fab. We both had the venison haunch special and very pleased we did, very tender and local.,always a bonus. The cheese board was a great mix but the rice pudding finished the other half off, great but just tipped him over. Very pleased we went.

We had the scotch egg to start and it was gorgeous, the piccalilli served with it is so tasty. My partner had the bacon chop and I had steak for mains again really good. Highly recommend this pub for food.

Stir it

17/03/2020: My sweet husband had picked Fig and Olive Cafe as a place to visit in Stranraer because he saw they had vegan options for me. What a great surprise this cafe was! Maria, the owner, was incredibly welcoming, and a joy to talk to. They had several vegan options and I tried many of them (to give you the most thorough review ;o) ) All were tasty, though, their Banana Loaf was my favorite! The hot chocolate with oatmilk was like drinking a chocolate bar! Definitely give this place a try.
21/03/2020: After a busy out and about on the Food Train Van, we decided to treat ourselves to lunch at the Fig and Olive, I had pancakes with fruit, yogurt and honey and my wife had a frittata with salad. Both were very tasty and washed down with a really Americana coffee.

Abbey Cottage

08/12/2019: A Busy place but Inviting and friendly with great customer service
01/03/2020: A beautifully situated cafe right next to Sweetheart Abbey and a few minutes' walk from the Corn Mill. Scones were just out of the oven and to die for! Lovely friendly staff too.
