The City Wall in Medway

Its basically a young persons Bistroteque but Sunday Lunchtime is given over to the older fans with the revived popularJazz venue transfered from the Eagle. Jazz has been thriving in Rochester for over 50 years with headline players sourced from Ronnie Scotts amongst others. It fits surprisingly well with great support from the owner. Best of all is a wide selection of classic bottled real ales all at reasonable prices. IMHO a great live music. 1-4 pm Sundays - BTW no food Sundays

I came to this venue with some friends a couple of weeks ago and was denied entry. As in, only I was denied entry. The rest of my friends were fine. I was not drunk AT ALL. They told me someone matching my description was seen doing something dodgy on CCTV and were refusing to tell me anything other than that. I was being denied entry for some random reason that I wasn't even allowed to know about. Extremely poor treatment. Fun fact - I was the only non-white person in the group. Coincidence? I wonder.

Crap service waited over 30 mins to be served and then glass collecter had a attitude anyone would think he had been working the last year in lock down

Went here for a Sunday lunch with friends. Certainly will not return. Frozen spuds, 2 slices of dry meat and watery gravy. Tiny portion sizes. Avoid if you like a decent dinner

Wouldn't have chosen to go here as a rule, but the bar staff were great, the atmosphere was lively, and we had a really good night!

My friends and I visited here as part of our annual get together it was karaoke night so got very busy. Staff friendly, helpful and efficient. Excellent value drinks. Always come here when in Rochester.

Stopped in for lunch a few days ago and had a pleasant enough time. Food was ok and the prices were decent. Nothing too spectacular but it definitely served its purpose!

Food is good, generous portions, on a sunny day, garden is a good place to eat. Nice and clean, plenty of sport avai;able on TV's

Only ever come here for predrinks before going clubbing. Usually quite busy with long bar waits. Music is good tho, with friendly staff. Not amazing but it’s okay for a couple drinks to get your night started!

I should make it clear that this review and rating is as a pub only as we only used it for drinks, so I can’t comment on the food.This is a modern, light and airy pub, with smooth, easy-wipe flooring and contemporary décor. It has a mainly younger clientele, catered for by what looked to be a good selection of lagers although there is no cask ale (the lack of which usually provides a good indication of the customers a pub caters for). Television screens are very visible and it is clearly a pub that is good for those who want to watch sport on TV. Therefore it’s the sort of pub that will be appreciated by some more than others. For example, if you wanted to have a lively night out drinking lager with mates then it would be just the job, but if you wanted to sit and have a quiet or intimate chat with a friend (and not be offended by foul language, which unfortunately is getting all too common nowadays) or drink real ale then you might want to give it a miss.It’s not really my sort of pub as I am of the age group that prefers a more traditional and quieter pub, and prefer ale to lager. However, having said that we could see what sort of pub it was before we went in so I’m not complaining on that score (and there’s nothing like a good pub crawl for variety!). The girl who served us was friendly and the lager was OK even if it’s not my choice of beer (but I’ll drink anything in an emergency!) Ratings for this sort of place are pretty meaningless as it will vary depending on one’s point of view. A group of youngsters who go to watch football, drink gallons of lager and make lots of noise would no doubt rate it highly, whereas a group of old age pensioners who want to drink real ale in a quiet, peaceful and traditional pub atmosphere would take an opposite view. For myself I had nothing to complain about – it does what it says on the tin you could say – but there was nothing about it that would draw me back, simply because it’s not my sort of pub rather than anything bad. Normally I would say it was good in that it is what it sets out to be without being anything special, but as TA in their wisdom do not allow a rating for good, and I could not really say it was very good, it will have to be average without that meaning anything substandard.

Went to this restaurant a few times. Food is good every time but literally no service. Toilets were not very clean.Its ok for quick food and drink.

I visited last weekend with my boyfriend and the bar person gave another lady my drink in error. The lady profusely apologised but having took a swig I asked for a fresh drink as it was a large glass of wine . The response was pour the remaining wine into a fresh glass ???? Have they never heard of hygiene or drinks spiking. On complaining to the arrogant manager we were told to leave . Bad customer service and a very upsetting incident . Keep clear is my advice !!!!

Called in and sat down. Waited 15minutes. No one acknowledged that we were there and waiting to be served. People in table next to us were served. Still no one came to take our order. So we left without ordering. There are plenty of other places to eat nearby

Went with some mates. The drinks were ropey, as was the service. The music was pants and the atmosphere was non existent. We were three of nine in the entire place. DON'T GO.

If you love a roast that reminds you of home,then citywall is the place.,3 fresh veg,roast potatoes, Yorkshire plenty of meat,with a choice of beef,lamb,pork gammon and chicken breast all for £5.99. You couldn't do it that cheap at home. Forgot to mention the proper homemade gravy,not the instant stuff you get everywhere else.

Stark wooden floors, nowhere to sit and neon lit. Might not even have come in were it not for the pool table but the place was actually ok, kept serving even though we were all completely bladdered.

Can thoroughly recommend the City Wall for food any day of the week but we had the Sunday Roast last week, amazing! Freshly cooked veg, choice of five meats and all for £4.99. You can supersize it for an extra £1 but be warned you'd need to be very hungry to cope with that plateful. Nice staff too

We popped in for a roast this afternoon and it was lovely. Although it was busy the staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be returning!

Came in to have a couple of beers and dinner while we watched the game. Food was fantastic and we recieved brillant Service from Andrew on the bar

We visited today, the food was okay, the chips weren't quite cooked, I actually had a raw tasting one, the cheesy chips had no flavour , full of oil at the bottom, I think they'd been microwaved so the chips had a soggy oily finish. My drink was okay but had an odd (not nice) flavour at the bottom of it, not sure what that was about. Lettuce on husbands plate had brown tinges to it. Then to top it off, we paid for the bill (around £15) and the girl behind the bar promptly told us that'll be a pound charge if paying by card ... pardon?! We were shocked to be charged, had no prior notice, just added it onto the price, we paid and grumbled about it to ourselves on our way out not wanting a confrontation. We won't be visiting ever again!!

This is a bargain for what you can get - a plate of beef (or chicken or pork) roast with all the trimmings for a fiver! Don't expect anything smart - there is a big loud TV with sports on, but you can't get a better value than here. It is tasty and well cooked. On one of my visits the meat was a bit though. Also I wished they offered me the horseradish first time round then me asking for it.

After deciding to have some food whilst in Rochester I opted for the roast dinner. What a great plate of food. The meat was well cooked and plentiful and the roast potatoes weren't your average frozen ones they were proper home made roasties. Veg was lovely and fresh and the price was even better. Well recommended.

We went in just for a couple of beers on a late afternoon and enjoyed a soccer game. Very friendly staff at the tap and a nice atmosphere made this a great experience. We will be back and check out the food.

Visited this venue after a birthday meal for a few drinks. The bar is nearby the taxi rank so was one of the main reasons we had a drink in here. The bar has a different range of age groups from young to old so you don't feel like you shouldn't be in there. Drinks are very cheap and it is easy to get drunk in here. DJ plays a variety of music through the night. I would definitely come back

I took my family in there for a meal and a drink, the staff were rude, the food was uncooked and horrible, we will not be going in there again.

Great pub lovley food and drinks well worth the money , straff are very friendly and great with kids will be back very soon

Been here many times for lunch mainly. Beeing semi retired its a great place to watch the world go by sitting on the patio having a smoke and a pint. So happy they have sky and bt sports on many screens as well. Heaven!. Staff are brilliant to they make me feel special. Worth a visit.

Myself and a group of friends gave The city wall a try despite the rumours of it being a "young persons" place to go! And we shocked! We all had an Amazing evening, despite it being completely packed, we were served quickly and all the staff were interacting well. Music was great! Drinks were priced well and good variety! All in all a good night was had by all! Would highly recommend....

Had lunch here on Sunday. Was a little concerned as it was very empty and was more concerned when, after my partner ordered an all day breakfast, the waitress came to tell us that there were no tomatoes or bread! However, extra sausage and bacon was provided to compensate and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. My ham, egg and chips was delicious, with chunky slices of tender, juicy ham. A lovely cup of tea too! Would definitely return, staff lovely too.

Visited the city wall with a group of old school friends.Was a great venue with very polite and attentive staff. We enjoyed ourselves so much we have organised another meet up at the City Wall wine bar.Would definitely recommend for a good night out in a place that has a great atmosphere.

Was out with extended family with a child. Staff were friendly. Felt unclean with a strange lingering smell. The food selection was poor and of mediocre quality. My food was Luke warm with a lifeless salad. Very expensive for quality. Ideal for a quick in and out.....not good for socialising and food intolerances

Would recommend the city wall for food we had 2 meals there and the food was excellent. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Facility all very clean. We will most definitely go back again.

We went, my wife and I and a friend to have a Sunday Roast to celebrate my birthday. We booked that morning by phone. On arrival we were welcomed by a very friendly bar assistant Rachel who took our drinks and food order. We ordered two chicken and one beef roast dinners, we were most surprised by the quality and amount of food on the plate, it was well presented and worth every penny. For dessert we had ice cream all very nice. The restaurant was very clean and well laid out. For those who like sports, there were T.V. screens about the restaurant.

Went into the City Wall for a family meal. The food and service was fantastic and they even have baby changing facilities which is brilliant. Definately will be using again and if the weather is good will even have our meals on the patio area ☺

What a great night we had clean tidy modern bar ......staff very welcoming and a great atmosphere and it is open late so no need to move on we will certainly return planning next visit already ...

Been a few times now and every time the food has been lovely. The staff are friendly and couldnt help more one of the best places to eat on the high street.

Popped in late afternoon hungry from walking the Beautiful historic streets of this pretty, quaint Dickensian Town, as we walked in the bar we were met by a very refreshing light modern establishment. The staff were very friendly and wasted no time taking a much needed drinks order and presenting us with the menu, the menu was filled with a good variety of meals and special offers, Portion sizes were huge!! we felt very comfortable (and stuffed) so we stayed a little longer and sampled a few cheeky cocktails, Brilliant day in all rounded off very nicely, we will be going back.

I was there quite a few times, on weekends it gets really busy. The good thing is that there is a variety of different people from all ages and different countries. Karaoke night on Thursday/Sunday is a real fun with plenty of songs available! However it may take a while until you get served, also male toilet gets really messy with liquid on the floor and some conflicts may arise during the busy periods.

Dreadful service even when only customers in bar to serve .... dreadful food ... main course arrives with starter ... dreadful attitude towards complaints! I live in Rochester & would never return here to eat or socialise!!!

Spotlessly clean premises. Amazing roast beef served piping hot with four kinds of fresh vegetables, crispy yorkshire, roast potatoes and lashings of tasty gravy. Service was personal and fast. Our waitress even managed to find us some French mustard ( hate the English stuff! ). Very quiet mid week lunch and at £3.99 real value. Could have chosen pork, chicken or gammon. Staff make eye contact and smile, such a nice change.

Having waited for at least 5 minutes for the lady behind the bar to serve a table of four ( they were the only ones in the restaurant ) we finally placed our order and I paid at 15.07. We decided to sit outside. At 15.47 we were still waiting. While we did have plenty of time now we did not. I decided enough was enough and calmly said to the lady behind the bar that we needed to leave and requested my money back. By this time is was now an hour since I had ordered only to be told that the Cook was just plating up the food. I again explained that we had run out of time. Now my money was refunded without an issue yet I am amazed that with only 4 people to cook for before us it was still not ready. Will not be returning my personal preference, however must say that I cannot comment on the food itself I will leave that to someone else who I hope does not have to wait for 50 minutes

Had lunch here a few times now. Always a friendly stopping point, decent menu and service always has a smile. The jacket spuds are always large with a decent sized filling. Tv on the walls, although it can give the feel of a slightly soulless place, decent enough and worth a try

Have a taste card so and they take this sat down the staff didn't come over and say when your ready order at the bar.waited for the food 20 min don't mind if it worth waiting for My wife had jacket potato spud was hard no butter My Dinner looked ok until I notice a hair it wasn't mine I have none I told the staff and they didn't do anything about it no feed back they must think its normal I would say avoid try some where else.

My wife and I decided to try this place as they had a few good deals on. I had the Mussels in garlic butter with chips, and my wife had 20 spicy chicken wings. Both cost just £4.95ea and were really good. The mussels were cooked to perfection and the garlic butter sauce was very good. And the chicken wings were delicious. And to top this of they have a small outside seating area where we could watch the shoppers walk by. Not bad at all, we will visit again.

A friend and I went for dinner here today as they advertised great food. It's a sports bar but looked nice. The food arrived and the chicken combo I ordered was dry both chicken and ribs, the mash was lumpy. The carbonara my friend ordered was slimy, greasy and tasteless. We advised the waitress of the dislike to be told the food we ordered has been cooked to their other customers likeness and that she could add something to the food to improve it, if we felt their other customers tastes were not to our standard. No suggestion was made to recook the food to edible standard. To top it off the garlic ciabatta was a French stick over toasted with dried garlic and margarine. Very disappointed with their complaint handling, the food served and service overall. Final comment, after we moved the barely touched food to other side of table no one approached us to clear the table. I paid upfront for this meal which disappointed me as I'd have thought they would have made an effort to please their customers as they could clearly see the dissatisfaction.
