Owner is rude, ripped our phones out of our hands when trying to record his abusive, aggressive behaviour. Stood behind bouncers being very aggressive towards us but wouldn’t allow us to get a photo or video of him with how he was acting. Terrible place, bouncers are also rude and condescending, never been spoken down to like that before. Wouldn’t bother going unless you want your evening ruined. Terrible place with terrible people who have no morals and think they own the high street.

The lady behind the bar with Blonde hair is always trying to talk to all then men prefers dancing than serving drinks. She can be very rude to customers and I have seen her moaning at the staff behind the bar which I think is very un professional. Would not recommend this place for a good night out.

Not one to write a review, especially a negative one as this is someone’s business but I’m telling you to steer clear… Attended the venue on Saturday night, after having a good night elsewhere, and thought I’d join a friend here. After around 25mins of being inside, I stepped outside for 5 mins, and was then denied to re-enter. Confused, I asked the security on the door the reasoning to be denied back in, to which they wouldn’t give one and just said the “owner doesn’t want you here” (you know how this goes) … Anyway after standing there asking why I can’t go back and finish my drink, they eventually accuse the ‘group’ I’m with of spiking a young girl in the venue, they have seen it on the CCTV, and have called the police. Funnily enough the group were the only black people in the venue… but obviously nothing can be proven. Confused and shocked, I patiently wait for the police to arrive, asking to review the cctv in the meantime - to which of-course I can’t (because they are lying) police come.. test the drink, nothing wrong with it. Then suddenly this short bald man arrives and starts getting aggressive in my face, thinking he’s just a totally drunk random putting his two pence in, turns out he’s the owner - lol. Told me that HE now doesn’t want me here because it’s his bar and he can pick and choose - understandable. Complete disgrace, shameful, and just by reading other reviews, I’m not the only one that’s had a run in with this utter waste man. I would like to shout out one of the other security on the door, who did talk to me with respect, and completely diffused the situation as if he wasn’t there definitely would have escalated. Anyway, don’t spend your hard earned money in a venue where the owner is a rude, aggressive bully who thinks it’s ok to be deceitful and lie. There are plenty of nice pubs/bars in Rochester, as to what I found out first hand.

This bar swings back and forth. On Sundays it has a carvery and competes with everyone else on the high street. Obviously, the quality of any carvery is dependent upon the chef. Sometimes, theirs is good. Sometimes theirs produces school dinners. At the moment, I can only imagine he has had his tongue cut out and is hoping everyone else's fetish for garlic and rosemary is as large as his is... Now, you may get lucky and catch this pub during a six month patch where its kitchen is operated by someone who knows what they're doing - but why take the risk? And what kind of a guy runs this place that they can't seem to hold onto anyone anyway? The seems to me to be very high. You will find better quality food at the George Vault. You will find better value at Ye Arrow. You will find cheaper at The Golden Lion. I really cannot think of a reason to eat here over somewhere next door. Not going for a meal? Fancy a drink out on in Rochester on a Friday or a Saturday night? Read the other reviews. There is a man complaining that he was told off by the pub owner for getting water with his rounds. I've seen people in this bar go out for a cigarette, leaving partners in the bar, and been refused entry back in. The owner (and whatever he is telling his bouncers) need to have their heads examined. £5 a pint, in a town like Medway, with slow service, bouncers who are arbitrary, food that is variable, when there is so much competition within yards of the front door... I think you'd have to be crazy to eat or drink here. The entire ethos of this bar needs a wake up call on what being a good pub is all about.

Spent over £150 between 6 of us on cocktails over 2 hours but was ordering tap water with each order. The owner came up to us towards the end of the night and was drunk, telling us that if we wanted to drink water we should get it from the bathroom and that we should be buying proper drinks (which we had been all night) and that we were wasting a table by ordering water. Disgusting attitude and won't be going back.

A very bad experience. Was told that they operated a table service for the food. Waited 40 minutes to be served. We ordered chicken wings, and was offered a choice of either BBQ sauce or Jalapeños and Lime. We ordered BBQ sauce. They eventually arrived, looking burnt with sachets of BBQ sauce. Turns out all the chicken wings were Jalapeño and Lime, and you added the BBQ sauce yourself. Can’t comment on any other food, as after waiting over an hour to get this far, we gave up and left.

We popped in after work on a weekday expecting a nice relaxing drink and a bite to eat. Music was absolutely blaring out. They had a Dave and AJ Tracey playlist on! The kind of rap music 14 year olds listen to. Absolutely not what you'd expect from a pub in the heart of the historic Rochester only a stones throw from the castle and cathedral. We understood they sold food so we sat down expecting to have table service but no one arrived. I checked the website on my phone and it said food served all day until 9pm. No sign of a menu or a server. In the end I went to the bar to get served. The bar staff were all sitting in the bar itself with a crowd of noisy lads and eventually came to serve us. By then we'd decided against asking for food because the whole atmosphere was awful. Noisy and boorish. We had a pint and left. I'm not sure who owns this place now but someone needs to get a grip of it and give it a good shake up.

It’s midnight and we are told it will continue until 1:45 the historic pub we chose to stay in turns out to be a extremely rowdy nightclub spreading onto the street. They keep turning the base up louder and there is absolutely no hope of sleeping despite being on the second floor. The walls are vibrating. People are screaming and shouting. Why on God’s earth do they imagine themselves to be even able to Offer accommodation. No wonder they insist on payment on arrival. Do not under any circumstances ever think to stay here particularly at weekends. It’s like the purest example of this deceptively attractive town centre actually being one of the most boorish and rough high streets in the south of the country. I’d say to tourists come during the day and leave it to the locals after 6pm

First got there to see the menu was different to Online, so didn’t have the stuff we wanted! Then the waitress came over & said half the menu wasn’t available! When the food finally come they’d given me a grilled chicken burger not a breaded one, the waitress explained it was their mistake but they had no breaded! So I didn’t have to wait I just took it, when I opened it, it didn’t have anything but the chicken in but had advertised as having lettuce tomato & mayonnaise. We didn’t get dessert as we were so disappointed with the slow service, poor food options, poor food when it came & everything in-between! Do not go here!

My son and I had dinner at The King’s Head on two consecutive nights during our stay in Rochester at the beginning of the month. The first one was so good (though enormous in quantity) that we decided to go there on the next night too. The first time we chose the shortcrust steak & kidney pie, which we enjoyed very much and the second night we opted for the rib-eye steak and chips. This I found disappointing, although I must say that the chips were very good, crisp on the outside, light and fluffy within. However, my steak was rather gristly and I had to cut quite a lot of it out. However, when I mentioned this to my son at the end of the meal, he said I should have told him earlier, as his had no gristle at all and was beautifully cooked. For anyone who is hungry, this is the place to go. Neither of us were able to finish our meal on either of the two evenings, and we had no room left for a pudding. I should like to mention the waiter we had, who was very friendly and very attentive, easily the best waiter in any of the restaurant we visited. – in fact, he was partly the reason we went back on second day. I wish I had asked his name, as I should like to have commended him to the Manager. The restaurant is very clean and the atmosphere of the whole pub welcoming.

We stopped here for a pint and light lunch, ordering the prawn sandwich and a bacon and brie baguette, both of which came with chips and salad. What we didn't expect was the size of the portion. The sandwich was in crusty white bread (I could have had brown) and was tripled deck with a very generous amount of prawns and a large helping of chips. What really gives this place a deserved 5 stars was the service after we mistakenly forgot to inform the waitress that my wife is allergic to raw onion and her salad came with shredded onion included. The staff couldn't have done enough, replacing it without question even though it was entirely our mistake. First class service and at reasonable prices too

We arrived at 13:30 and were given menus fairly quickly by a surly waiter. We ordered drinks and food at the same time pretty much straight away. Our drinks arrived approximately 15 minutes later and 40 minutes after we ordered, we enquired as to where our food was from a passing waitress who claimed it would be "a couple of minutes". Another 20 minutes passed by, meaning we had waited an hour since ordering and we asked our original waiter where our meals were. He went to look and arrived back with them a few minutes after with a barely audible "sorry" from under his breath. However, this was just the beginning of this diabolical visit. I had ordered a fish pie, while my companion ordered fish and chips. The chips on their meal were cold but they said that the fish was tasty. My fish pie, however, was truly awful. In what was probably a 4 inch deep dish, 3 inches of this was mashed potato. The remaining inch consisted of a nameless white fish, of which the majority was fish skin. As somebody who doesn't enjoy fish skin at the best of times, particularly in a fish pie, I had to remove each piece of fish and skin it myself and the skin definitely outweighed the amount of fish. Other than this there were a couple of prawns and no real sauce to speak of. Without a doubt it was the worse fish pie, I've ever tasted. Furthermore, to add insult to injury, boiled potatoes were served alongside the fish pie (yes, I kid you not, boiled potatoes alongside a dish that was 75% mashed potato). Half of the potatoes had actually been scooped out!We complained when the dishes were cleared but were completely ignored by both the surly waiter and the unhelpful waitress. From the serving staff we saw, none of them should be working in customer services, they had no sincere apology for the terrible dining experience and did nothing to compensate for it. This was the worst visit to a pub we have ever experienced and you couldn't pay us to go back.

Food was disgusting, toilets filthy with overflowing sanitary waste bins which had clearly not been emptied for some time. Went with work colleagues for a Christmas lunch which was pre-ordered a couple of weeks in advance. My starter of pâté came with two huge pieces of pâté served with one slice of "Mothers Pride" type bread 'shown' the toaster. For main course I'd ordered braised steak. I was served a piece of whole steak which was as tough as old boots. I sent meal back as couldn't eat it. They said they would deduct from bill. The dessert of Christmas pudding and custard was served up stone cold. Three of us had this so they were sent back. We waited ages for a replacement dessert which came back luke warm. My whole meal was deducted from the bill. Would definitely not recommend this pub/hotel for food. I would have been more understanding if they'd been busy, but we were the only cover!!

We ordered quite soon after seated, but the food took ages to arrive even though it was not THAT busy. We all had burgers as we were on a budget and the food was quite good, several different options and it all looked really tasty.Staff was quite polite though and apologised for the card reader not working

Nice warm welcoming pub in the centre of the town. Friendly atmosphere and helpful staff. Had a bit of a wait for food otherwise would have given five stars. Recommended!

Friend and I entered at noon. Just a few customers inside.Ordered all day breakfast. Proceeded to wait 30minutes until the waitress finally came over to apologise for delay. My friend requested some 'courtesy' drinks which were served to us. Went to pay and the 'courtesy drinks' had been added to the bill.We should've been approached much earlier and offered a free round of drinks rather than having to ask. Aside from a hard yolk in my egg the breakfast was ok. The waitress was very young/inexperienced but the young, female manager was within proximity to also approach us but chose not to.

Came with the girls for a few drinks and some food, the staff were friendly and accommodating we felt very comfortable! The food was great and reasonably priced, we had a few drinks which were awesome. Love the jam jar cocktails! Think it's a good pub for families too, no garden which is sad but makes up for it as the pub is so pretty, we will be back for sure.

Great pub with fond memories of when I was a student. The pub has changed somewhat and is way more modern than in the 80's. A good atmosphere and a great selection of beers. Would recommend for couples that are looking for a good old fashioned pub experience.

Not usually one to go for burgers but happy we did here. Huge burgers topped with chorizo and mozzarella served with sweet potato fries. Very good value and certainly filling! Pleasant surroundings and friendly staff.

Had the most wonderful Sunday Roast at The Kings Head Pub today.Thought my sister was the Queen of the Roast Dinner but having had lunch here today.......The beef was tender and super tasty, all the vegetables (and there was a great selection) freshly cooked, cauliflower cheese yummmm., fabulous roast potatoes too.Great value for money.Would highly recommend The Kings Head.Katie the lovely lady host, made us feel extremely welcome and when she said there was a half an hour wait, she was right.Always makes a meal taste better when you are served with a smile.Definitely going back soon.

Went here today for Sunday lunch with family. Haven't visited here for a long time so hoped it was as good as the last time we came here. It's not the best pub in Rochester, but the carvery here today was 100%. A choice of 5 meats, roast potatoes, carrots, swede, parsnips, peas, stuffing and the list goes on. All the meat was well cooked and the vegetables were piping hot. Chef was very friendly and can't fault the staff. My husband and brother-in-law didn't fancy what was on the dessert list, so I said to ask if there was a daily special. Apple pie and custard was served and they were more than happy. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Will certainly be going back.

Had a lovely lunch with my grown up kids last week. My son had a top class Burger with sweet potato fries - he said it was "the best" burger he had eaten for ages. My daughter and I had brie, cranberry and bacon baguettes with chips and side salad. All were piping hot, fresh and delicious. We were so full there was no room for dessert. The waitress was lovely, fun and cheerful. It was a lovely lunch and we will definitely will be back. The cost was approx under £27 with tip and drinks too. Highly recommended.

Lunch : A great place to stop and eat with friends and family. The friendly staff were more than happy to give recommendations for food and we're attentive and welcoming. The food was delicious, I ordered the chicken and bacon baguette for lunch and it arrived beautifully presented with a salad and dressing with chips. The portion size was very generous - you really get your money's worth! And again staff were lovely and asked how our meals were and if we all enjoyed ourselves. I only wish we could have stayed for dinner!

Visited the Kings head on a Friday night, as the night went on it got quite busy but a good amount of room and seating areas.the pub itself was in keeping with the surrounding town and is a very inviting place . Bar staff are friendly and helpful. The pub itself has two bar areas and is quite big inside. Prices were average to most places. Only had a drink in here so can't comment on food. I would use this place again as it was more of a traditional pub compared to some of the others around the town.

I have not sampled the food and the setting is perfectly fine but beware, the drinks prices in this place are jaw dropping compared to the rest of the High Street. We visited three bars prior to foolishly trying the Kings Head on Friday night. In all three previous establishments a round was similarly priced between £21 and £23. In The Kings Head the exact same round of one single shot with a mixer, 3 pints of lager and 2 bottles of lager was over £31! If I was in the West End, paying £5 plus a drink is a lot but at least understandable, but this is in Medway! You could argue they are trying to price out the kids but you can do that with age restrictions without ripping off customers? I guess the review leaves a simple choice. If you think paying over £5 for a pint of lager in Rochester is fine then go for it, if you think they are taking advantage of you then avoid this place. A word of warning though. If places like this are allowed to thrive when charging such ludicrous prices for the same pint that is a third cheaper in the very next pub then it won't be long until every place will try this on. We obviously left after one round (which tasted remarkably similar to the previous round) and will not be darkening their doorstep again.

Had a drink sitting at a table in the bar, which was pleasant enough, then decided to get a sandwich and another drink. Went to the bar and the barman told us we had to order food sitting at a table, so we just decided to have a drink and he then practically ordered us back to the table. Think he was the 'manager'. He was definitely a cock.

Lovely Sunday Carvery with good surroundings and old pub atmosphere, portion size was good, meats nicely cooked the vegetables of the day were hard and not cooked enough for my taste as it was a new chef as I was told when I relayed this to the staff member so given that I would recommend a visit.

The place is OK. Food served very nicely. We ordered burger with blue cheese, however burger was overcooked (very far from being a juicy burger). Frozen chips were not great too. Itas not the worst meal. However would never go back! I find it overpriced as well. £3.00 for coke, and £7.99 burger, could of been better. Also, my mum ordered glass of water, and they forgot about it. In addition, when we asked for a bill, they forgot to bring it as well. One waitress was very friendly and helpful, where second one just ignored us. we asked for a high chair for our daughter, and she said she will help us, however never returned. Would not come back!

Its basically a young persons Bistroteque but Sunday Lunchtime is given over to the older fans with the revived popularJazz venue transfered from the Eagle. Jazz has been thriving in Rochester for over 50 years with headline players sourced from Ronnie Scotts amongst others. It fits surprisingly well with great support from the owner. Best of all is a wide selection of classic bottled real ales all at reasonable prices. IMHO a great live music. 1-4 pm Sundays - BTW no food Sundays

Date night for food and cinema, followed by a trip to Creams for dessert. I'd never been before, but this won't be my last visit! I had the Mint doughnut with a scoop of Mint Choc Chip ice cream on the side and my partner had the Kinder Bueno crepe. Both well presented and tasted even better. If you'd never been before like me, go as soon as you can!

Nipped in there for a Strawberry Frapp. The place wasn't all that busy and was clean and tidy. The young lady who made my drink was polite and lovely to chat to. I think her name was Zoe. Very well presented and my drink was spot on. Its always nice for staff to chat with customers when they are not busy and Zoe did exactly that. Made the customer service she provided very special. Now for the negative. The young man on the till. I found his attitude to be quite intolerable. All he wanted to do was get me through the till as quickly as possible so he could answer the ringing phone. Wasn't polite at all. I got the impression he may have been the manager of the store. I got the impression that he much prefer to go off and complete other tasks, rather that serve customers.

Perfect Poached Eggs. We both had Eggs Benedictine which was nicely presented + had lovely gammon ham. It was very tasty + we would definitely eat here again. Kirsty behind the bar was very welcoming. She was a very capable barmaid, she was the only 1 serving but was calm + not flustered when there was a queue. I had to report 1 of the toilets being in a terrible mess. Kirsty apologised + said she would address the matter immediately + that she was sorry I had to see that. Previously if I have ever had to report a toilet needs attention in other shops or stores it is brushed off + hardly acknowledged. So well done Kirsty, the best service I have received in a very long time…..

Food was lovely! Service from the barista’s and the waiters and waitresses outstanding. However the manager was very condescending and demanding to her staff and to us as customers which ruined the atmosphere. Great job to the team elements !
