The Cinnamon Tree in Derby

Went in to order a takeaway. Once the order was placed, a guy brought out a hand written paper receipt with a card machine. Once I paid with Apple Pay, he took the receipt away. After I’ve received my order, I asked for a receipt so I can claim it back from my employer as I was in a business trip. The manager was telling me that I must have a card receipt if I paid by card. I said to him that I paid with Apple Pay so that’s only a VAT receipt but not an itemised receipt. Another employee brought me a yellow paper copy receipt, but it never told how much each item was or what the total price was. When I kindly asked the manager to write down the prices he didn’t look very keen. Then he said that it’s the ‘new way how it works’. I said to him that I’ve worked in retail for 18 years and the retailer must issue a receipt to the customer whenever requested. He said something about it’s how it works at Tesco. So I said to him that I’ve been a manager at Tesco for 5 years recently and I don’t need lessons about compliance. He went on an said that I should have mentioned if I wanted a receipt at the point of me ordering. So I said to him that it was their duty to ask the customer at the point of sales weather or not want a receipt and that’s called ‘customer service’. Once I’ve walked out, I realised that they’ve given me a yellow paper copy receipt with no name what so ever mentioned on the paper about the restaurant but just blank.

Ordered to take out chicken madras curry. Did not have any taste at all couldn't taste a single spice. I like madras cause they're hot but this was like dishwater do not bother waste of money. Never again

had a lamb saag that had as much flavour as cardboard's butter chicken that just tasted like a bag of sugar had been poured in it.an egg cup full of rice and a garlic naan with an impregnable base.no problem with the drinks, pickle tray or service, just in desperate need of a new cook.

Visited based on reviews and was not disappointed. We both had the midweek 4 course special which had an impressive range of choices. All our courses were delicious and very good value. We will definitely return when we next visit the area!

We ordered a takeaway from here, food was bland, when it arrived it was cold. Very disappointed, we were regulars here, not anymore. I dined in the restaurant, my food went to the wrong table, the waiter realised his mistake after the person had put it on his plate, was about to eat it, the waiter apologised to them and took the whole plate away, then a few mins later my food arrived to our table. More than a few mistakes. Avoid.

I rang not long beforehand and they managed to accommodate a table for two Just brilliant. Great service from the lads. Food is just fab That tandoori chicken :-)

We love this restaurant so much. Staff are so pleasant,polite and you feel special because they offer a personalised service. We visit whenever we can and it is so popular we have to book. Absolutely outstanding service. The staff work really hard and are polite and remember their customers and what their customers like which is excellent customer service. The food is A* highly recommended and the environment is comfortable and exceptionally clean and I look forward to going there again. Delivery arrived in 45 minutes, so fresh and still hot. Everything was well cooked, so flavoursome and tasty! Naan breads are often soggy when delivered but never had a soggy naan from The Cinnamon Tree. All the sauces were delicious, not a bad word in sight. Very good value for money.

Beautiful food and service. It is a pity the previous review was not resolved but this evening was again outstanding quality and service by all the staff. The food was 5star and I look forward to visiting again. I highly recommend Cinnamon lounge. We have eaten in Michelin restaurants and for a local restaurant to be of this standard is commendable.

Firstly, the food was mostly very good as usual. However, as the title suggests, there were 2 main issues. Also, in fairness, we went for Christmas dinner here 2 years ago and it was very good. However this year, the pre booked and pre designated food choices unfortunately led to us waiting around 60 minutes to receive our main after finishing our starters. Most other people seemed to be waiting a long time also. Unfortunately as we had young children this was not great. Also when presented with the bill we were charged £8.90 for 3 popadoms (almost 3 pounds per poppadom?!) that were not requested by ourselves, instead being put on the table. Having said that the popadom sauces were delicious but not worth almost £9. I have encountered these stealth charges before. The restaurant may think they are being clever 'getting another tenner' out of people however I will not go back due to this - which is a shame and loses them next year's inflated Christmas meal payment from us and some (but not many to be fair) takeaways over the year. There was no apology for the excessive delay in service. Starters - mixed grill kind of thing. Paneer cheese very good. Main - lamb was OK. Curry was OK but very oily and chicken seemed overdone. Rice was delicious. Dessert - very nice.

Fantastic Staff and service. We visit this restaurant often and have done for many years. We have brought family and we all enjoy Fantastic food and service. The staff offer a good service in a clean and comfortable environment. The quality of the food is worth every penny and their chef is excellent. The food was amazing, so lovely to find a beautiful menu with such interesting dishes. I have never enjoyed an Indian meal as much and I have had many over the years. However it is now named Cinnamon Lounge if you want to try it for yourself. To top off a great meal the waiter was lovely.

Very well cooked, nicely presented food at an affordable price. Clean toilets, clean cutlery and attentive staff who are not overbearing. Green chillies used rather than red which is a big positive. Hidden Derby gem, well worth a visit.

This is without a doubt our favourite restaurant and I can’t recommend it enough. The staff are great and very helpful and go above and beyond to help you with the menu. We decided to try some where different as we had found that our local Indian Sunar Gow had dropped in quality and taste.

Ordered a delivery last nite for my wife and friend. Food was delicious and the delivery arrived within a hour.

Had a set menu at £22 for three courses, plus a popadom and naan bread. I had the garlic chilli chicken for the main course, which was tasty and filling. It was ice cream and a deep fried dumpling for dessert, which wasn't as nice.

Just got back from our anniversary meal at the Cinnamon Lounge (previously known as the Cinnamon Tree).

I went with work colleagues on a Sunday. They have a deal that is 4 courses for £12.95 per person. For this you get a poppadom and pickle tray, then your choice of starter. I had the onion bhaji (very nice). Next your choice of main then a scoop of ice cream to finish. I found the amount just right. I enjoyed all the courses. Service was quick and the decor very pleasing. I look forward to my next visit.

It’s been around 3 years since we last visited this place and boy where we glad to revisit! Absolutely stunning meal for Valentine’s Day and the staff where fantastic. The taste and flavour of all the dishes we ordered was absolutely stunning. Coming back in 4 weeks with 6 of us. Highly recommend

Stayed at a nearby hotel and fancied going out for a meal. After a quick local search we came across this little gem. Amazing food, excellent service. Very friendly and good value for money. In my view unbeatable!

4 of us went to Cinnamon Lounge (as it is now called) to see 2019 in. The service and our meals were excellent we had booked well in advance but when we arrived there were no tables available. We waited in the takeaway area, a complimentary drink would have been nice.Our table was in one of the cubicles and very nice. Food as always was well served and tasty. With the help of a few drinks we saw the New Year in. Cinnamon is always on our list of places to go and they certainly pleased us this time except for the short wait on arrival. Would recommend to all Derby people.

Visited on Friday evening to celebrate a birthday. Had a takeaway too last week which was very good. Good choice of dishes and the food was really tasty. Was spoilt though by one waiter who was just rude (the others were fine). I hope he's in a better mood if we go again.

Been to this place a couple of times now. Both on a Monday night. Service is very friendly and the food is very good. The Sea Bass starter is brilliant. Dansaak and Balti are also very good. Excellent breads and a non-soggy Sag Aloo.

Had a meal in the Cinnamon Tree on a Saturday night. Friendly staff who made us feel very welcome. Food was really tasty & portion sizes good. We ordered a curry and some side dishes. All presented well & tasted fresh. Probably one of the nicest Curry’s we’ve ever had. Would recommend & would visit again if I was in the area

This was the most bland lamb rogan josh we’ve ever had. So so disappointed. The naan bread was ok though. Won’t be returning. Shame.

£11 on Monday for starter, main, vegetable side and rice or naan. Not full choice on that menu but all perfectly good and portion was adequate. Intrigued to try some of the special dishes which might set this apart from a standard Indian but for £15 a head cannot complain at all

Came across this restaurant by chance, looking for somewhere near our hotel. The first thing we noticed was a 'meal deal' available that night. Then the friendly staff and the modern décor. We were made very welcome and we were able to select a variety of dishes that we hadn't sampled before. We were not disappointed. Everything was beautifully cooked and well seasoned without being overly hot. Very reasonably priced too. We will certainly be back whenever we are in the Derby area.

The restaurant offers a good range of dishes (particularly if one likes lamb or chicken). The Tawa was tasty.

Highly recommended Asian food of quality in pleasant surroundings with off street parking and friendly staff

I visited this lovely restaurant quite a few months ago on a Monday evening and they have a set menu deal on I think. Food was really lovely but the highlight of the evening was were the waiter dropped some of the food all over the floor juggling plates lol.

This was a last minute decision to go following heavy snow meaning original destination not possible. Free parking outside and lovely friendly staff. Good food, fresh naans, little odd in serving curry In a bowl and rice on small side plate so no alternative but to tip rice into curry bowl and swamp in curry sauce.

The place looks very nice and has free parking infront. The decor I liked it has a nice atmosphere and was clean. The staff were nice and polite, helpful in telling me what they had - until they forgot...

We had a great meal on what was a very busy Saturday evening great menu & service too. Lovely menu choices & everything was superbly cooked. We will return thanks to all concerned.

Thoroughly enjoyed our group dining experience at this suburban restaurant, where there is plenty of free parking outside. There was a warm welcome from the friendly, attentive and helpful staff. The menu provides a very good choice of speciality dishes as well as the traditional standards, and all at very fair prices, providing excellent value for money. I feel sure that the quality has improved over the last year. Will definitely go back again.

Went for the first time last night with a party of 10 and it was lovely - a quiet Monday evening and the staff all still excelled themselves in politeness, patience and efficiency. Add to that the food was absolutely delicious and generous too - got their great starter+main+rice/naan deal and it was almost too much to eat! I had the Tandoori Mix Balti and was thrilled.

Called restaurant to be told our food ready and waiting but no delivery driver available. 20 mins later it arrived and was almost cold. Would Not recommend or use again Think 1 hr 40 mins too long to wait for delivery too especially as we live on same road as restaurant!

After waiting 2 hours I called and they rudely said they had been to deliver - which they hadn’t. Then said they would “heat it up” and deliver it in an hour. That doesn’t sound appetising or safe. Told them to forget about it and I ordered from Kinara instead which was amazing. Wouldn’t ever order here again. Horrific service.

Great food great service as always

From our initial call about delivery to the Ibis, to gluten free advice and overall experience we cannot fault the fantastic service we received. The food delivered was extremely tasty, Lamb Tikka Biryani and a Dansak the first night with another Biryani the 2nd night with Garlic Chilli, had a depth of flavour not just spicy (hot). First time ordering from here. I was keen to try due to the great reviews. In summary, superb food matched by fantastic service. I requested a nann that wasn't on the menu. They called me to say they would be making it for me. I've never had that from a take away before. Delivered on time. With all of very impressed with the quality and quantity of food. Will definitely be ordering again.

La comida era deliciosa y tienen un par de ofertas para que el precio en muy buena para cuánto te dan comida! Un par de cosas y son muy exigentes, el restaurante en sí era bastante frío, parecía que el aire acondicionado en la esquina estaba a tope. En segundo lugar, los inodoros tenía un extraño olor, no sé qué era. Aparte de los problemas el árbol de canela es, sin duda vale la pena una visita para cualquier amante de curry!

Normally we have great take-out that is always excellent, fresh big flavours, well spiced and textured. We visited to eat-in at 9.20pm on a work night and asked, "can you feed us please?" (Meta message we are starving and need to eat soon.) We had just finished work and needed good food. We ordered drinks and poppadoms that arrived quickly. We enjoyed the subtle mango chutney and I loved the lime pickle. After 10.15 I went to speak regarding the delay of our main courses? The senior waiter assured me that we would be served "once the big table had been served". The big table was now the only remaining table in the restaurant. With three serving staff on it seemed odd to leave us until last? The waiter apologised but added no apparent justification for leaving us to last. Sadly we eat very late struggled to sleep. Good take-out, for eat in and they need direct clear yes or no questions.

We were stopping at a nearby hotel and the bar staff recommended this place. I can't tell you how good this place is, my hubby and I both agreed this was the best indian meal we'd both ever had!!! The staff were incredibly polite and helpful and made us very welcome, answered questions about the different cuisine and couldn't gave done more. The food was fresh and all very well presented. Little gem!

Excellent curry. If I had to pick I'd say it would be better if the Coca Cola delivered was cold. And I requested a well done garlic & tomato nan but got just a garlic not well done.

Placed quite a large order, arrived with no salads or sauces and no poppadom which, considering we spent £40 was really tight. I called the restaurant to ask about the salads etc and was spoken to by a pretty smarmy guy... Won't order from there again as there are loads of places that serve similar if not better food but Dont skimp on the extras and actually make an effort to make you feel valued (mickleover spice... I actually ordered from cinammon tree by mistake)

Always had excellent food from here. Unfortunately this time the chicken in the dupiaza was quite dry. Everything else was excellent as usual. Will put the dry chicken down to a momentary lapse of concentration from the chef! Will definitely order again and recommendations will be given.

I don't often write reviews, but I was so impressed with this restaurant I decided to make an exception. The food is first class, really respectful staff and I noticed the waiter putting out fresh cutlery while wearing white gloves. Clearly these guys take their profession seriously and deserve high praise!

Did not leave any stars because I didn't collect this order. The app crashed as I was checking out, and was unsure whether the payment went through. The app then became unavailable, so I went to the resturant to a collect a separate order. The food was nice, but what wasn't nice was getting a call from the resturant 2 hours later asking when I was picking up my just eat order. This is also when I found out that I had paid for it. So yeah not best pleased

Pooped in with friends on a Saturday night. Staff very accommodating and recommended a dish for my partner as he was unsure what to order and it was just what he liked, all of our food tasted great. We regularly have take outs from here but the restaurant food is even better. We'll be back soon.

Just finished a delicious meal here, our first visit. The service was excellent, the meal timed perfectly between courses and polite, friendly staff who were happy to advise on the menu. We had two starters - lamb chops and king prawns. Both were beautifully cooked and presented, building up anticipation for the main courses. We were not disappointed! The chicken madras, chicken tikka and chicken korma were all very tasty. We were visiting Derby from Manchester and would definitely return to the Cinnamon Tree on future visits. A lovely experience

Lots of good reviews but I think the poorer reviews are more accurate. Nan bread pretty stodgy and no garlic on top. Tandoori chicken OK but have had much better. As another reviewer mentions, samosas are tiny and prob bought in. Not v good value, I'm from Coventry and local Indian restaurants do better portions, quality and value.

Food very bland. Curry luke warm and prawns very tough. Really disappointed as new to the area and looking forward to it. Naan breads were nice but the samosas were tiny and obviously iceland specials- awful. Food did arrive in time. Won't be back

Visited Cinnamon Tree for the first time with friends although I have had takeaways from here before.Very accommodating as I had to amend the booking twice. Not a problem.The restaurant wasn't particularly busy on the night and we were greeted and seated immediately by a very pleasant chap. Menus were proffered and drinks ordered, which arrived within minutes. It took a while to decide what to order but our waiter was happy to keep coming back to enquire if we were ready. 2 of the party asked for a variation of the dishes on the menu and our waiter was happy to understand and deliver on their requests. The food arrived almost as soon as we had demolished our Papodoms and pickles and looked really inviting. All present expressed their satisfaction with their chosen dishes and those who had requested variations were delighted with the result.Excellent service with food to match. The only negative, which is me being a bit picky to be honest, was that the restaurant itself, while being spotlessly clean and presentable, lacks any character. Other than that a lovely evening that will without doubt be repeated in the future.

Unfortunately I don't know the area so used the just eat app to find somewhere to order from, this was 6 miles away, we live in a village and there are not that many options for authentic Indian food. We thought it says they deliver so why not. The delivery time was 1 hour. We didn't mind waiting however after the order went through they added 20 mins extra time. The delivery was then due at 20:20. The food arrived at 21:00. If it's a problem to deliver this far away why allow the order to come through. I don't blame the place completely but it's something they should look into. The food was late and cold. The quality of the naan was not that great. Saag paneer was nice. Friendly delivery driver.

We went on sat evening for a meal, the food was excellent, fresh and delicious. The service was very good, everyone was polite and helpful. Prices were very reasonable, and puts a lot of Indian restaurants to shame. You won't be disappointed.
