Excellent service from Annette and nice buffet for my Dad's wake. Thank you for making the day memorable.

Didn't eat there,but drink and atmosphere were very good.

The worst Steak and Venison pie ever! Dry (nearly burnt) pastry stuffed with extremely salty gravy and a few pieces of burnt meat. One burnt shrivelled carrot and the same with a parsnip. They were actually both visibly burnt black!! Cold wet mash. Tender sprouts were on the card but never came. How do they get away with this??!! Have a drink. The view is exceptional. But don't waste money on the food.

I romped up after walking up to the viewpoint. Service wasn't the quickest sadly. Seemed one girl only on till as others did whatever.

We had a TBone steak each and although that was cooked properly, the cauliflower cheese extra we had appeared to be griddled cauliflower in cheddar cheese, which was very oily and even burnt. We sent that back along with the under cooked onion rings. The waitress and staff were polite though & dealt with the issue properly.

Been twice now since the takeover (it was absolutely diabolical before)..the owners have completely turned it around! Food great...£8.50 lunch menu is fantastic, value for money with large portions for the price, staff are really friendly & the place is full which makes for a great atmosphere! Well done, keep up the food work!

Am a local that hasn't eaten at The Churchillian for about 5 years - thought my friend and I would try it today for lunch. Unfortunately the kitchen was closed due to a 'technical' problem (the chef left early), the barmaid kindly supplied us with a couple of bags of crisps free of charge. Within 5 minutes the same barmaid informed us that a replacement chef had arrived. Great, we ordered Hunters Chicken (this was tiny, must of been a itsy bitsy chicken - plus it was dry) and a Lasagne - very liquidy and not alot of taste, together with 'garlic bread' a slice of normal sliced bread toasted heavily one side with garlic butter. Would have spoken to bar staff, however had already had a conversation - asked for a cooked sausage (for my dog) informed they could not oblige due to their food stocktaking - I didn't expect it for free, wanted to pay for it, but 'no' was the answer (yes, the pub welcomes dogs and they do sell various dog food - they are hard and my little dog can't chew them - he loves to try the sausages in the pubs I visit 😉) No staff were around when we left the bar to speak to .....

Good views. Service always awful, never got any beers on tap and staff often seen away with the fairies and disinterested. Such a shame as venue is great. ***update*** Went to try again. New manager staff seem better. Ordered food and paid on app as suggested to be told they stopped serving @ 8pm. Nothing on menus (still left on tables) or the app today so. Out of pocket 25 sovs for two weeks until they will apparently refund me. What a load of old Tommy Tank. Give it a swerve.

Good food great view overlooking the dockyard

Pre-booked a table for 4 with a window view, told on arrival that window tables only seat 3 and that we had to have a table elsewhere in the pub. The only USP for the place is the amazing view across to Portsmouth and the harbour! Food was OK but menu was pretentious and over priced, they just serve up the usual pub grub.

We came here while having a few days away in hayling last week, we visited for the first time on Easter Monday, wasn’t so great. Some of the food was burnt (gammon steaks and kids sausages), wrong chips were served, no eggs on our gammon (we let one of the staff know and they said we would get them shortly but didn’t ever arrive), regardless was still decent. We came again on Tuesday because we could see how busy it was on the Monday and wanted to give it another shot. Glad we did because everything was perfect! Came again on Thursday for lunch before we went home, we couldn’t get enough of it here. Only thing was on the Thursday our food came before drinks as we ordered via the my pub app and I don’t think the lady behind the bar was checking orders coming through, the lady who brought our food out sorted our drinks for us. Ordered another drink for my daughter with dessert and that never arrived but regardless we would come here every day if we were closer. Amazing staff as well all very friendly. Beautiful views from the pub on clear days. (Pics are from our 3 visits not just one) the hunters chicken has my heart!!! It’s so lovely.

We had an amazing afternoon with our family. The staff were very helpful. Special thanks to April , she was very good with our children . The food was faultless. Clean plates all round We will be back again! I need to try the Hake.

Lovely pub but not for table service. Booked for mother's day for wife as we always go up the hill to lay flowers for her Mum. Used to drop in for drink only but stopped this last year as food only no drop ins. Booked for time we wanted. They explained all was table service instead of usual order at bar. Another couple and a young family seated by us not long after. We ordered drinks and asked for a few mins to decide off limited menu. Tables by us got drinks ours arrived 15 mins later. Finally ordered went for mains and pud. Tables by us who arrived after got Thier starters then mains.... 45 mins later ours came out after querying. Then had to grab waitress as my medium steak was only cooked one side and rare. She advised would get another one. Assumed a whole fresh plate. Nope same plate same steak just re cooked but not all over. Ate as this all took 10 mins and wife had almost finished. By now two tables who had also had 2 courses had finished and paid and left. Then the struggle to order pudding....15 mins our waitress just vanished. 45 mins again and we chased order it finally appeared although wrong with custard not ice cream as requested. We are took 20 further mins to get bill even though asked for it when pudding delivered and left. It's a lovely pub but stick to ordering from bar not table service. No clue

Had a lovely glass of wine and a fantastic fish finger sandwich. We felt cozy and comfortable sipping and eating while looking at a cold rainy lovely view.

Loved this place, vibe was muted and relaxed. Staff were busy but very helpful. The dog menu was genius (makes me wish i has a dog now) I had the beetroot pasta and my partner had the fish and chips (huge portion)

Had a wake here and it certainly didn't disappoint. Well looked after by the team.

Came here for Mother's Day and had a great time. Our server, Jack, was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Excellent set menu for the occasion, too. Can't recommend enough!

I won't be coming back anytime soon. After ordering all food and drinks using the app, we found the service poor. When our food arrived we had to ask for our drinks which still hasn't arrived. Our meals didn't come how we expected, the side salad was not dressed except just a handful of rocket leaves placed on the plate. The burger came without the sauces. The only thing I enjoyed was the burger

I was so excited for my daughter to take me for dinner, she booked us a table, when we got there no one showed us where to sit or even acknowledged we were there. We happily ordered from the app, what a brilliant feature. Quick and easy no fuss.. until we were left for quite a while waiting, still no acknowledgment or welcome… when our food finally got there, we still didn’t have our drinks… I had the small plate lasagne served with garlic bread and a garnished side salad.. however the side salad was not garnished and was just a pile of rocket leaves. Which tastes quite bitter on their own. My daughter had the bacon burger with sweet potato fries and bbq sauce, only there was no bbq sauce at all. Still no drink.. also no cutlery.. The lasagne was delicious. The burger was cooked perfectly. If perhaps you like to feel welcomed to somewhere this is not the place for you. If you are happy to be in and out but have to keep asking for things you should have just been provided with, this is the place for you. Food was good. Price is reasonable. Service was a let down.

Great location! Has changed a lot since I last visited? Which was a long time ago but it is still a cozy place with good selection of drinks 🍷😉

Where do I start, no table service, but you have to book and pay a deposite??? Long ques at the bar, trying to remembering a large tables order, and then having to return to the table repeatedly because they didn't have what was on menu. Waited too long for the food. Squid and prawns tasted rotten and well overcooked and burnt, I won't even mention the tartare sauce poured all over, should keep it seperate it was awful too. Sunday roast beef was like a big fat gristle, and dinner was barely luke warm, and obviously been sitting around waiting a long time even though we were amongst the first in after opening, they didn't clear the table. Absolutely horrific experience. Weatherspoons operate the same, but with better food and better service for half the cost.

Unfortunately unable to write a glowing review, The pub was petty much empty but it still took over an hour plus and after a few nudges for the food to make it to the table. You wouldn't mind the wait if the food was scrumptious but well try it for yourselves. Sorry guys we tried a local pub over a harvester or beefeater but you let us down.

Came down to Portsmouth for a long weekend with my partner! Got told to come here by a friend and it was so lovely, went for dinner and drinks. Food and the cocktails were both amazing! Would 100% recommend :)

If i could give less than 1 star then i would. The manager and few other staff members are snotty, rude and very unprofessional. They messed up a friend's 60th for her mum.

We had an awful experience here tonight. We pre booked our table for 18.15 for 5 people. When we arrived we were shown to our table and shown the menus. We went and ordered drinks first then about 10 mins later went to the bar to order food. It was at this point for the first time we were informed the pub was only able to serve about 1/5 of the main meals on its menu. So 4 of the 5 of us changed our choices, as we already had drinks so decided we might as well stay. In the long wait for the food we discovered on talking to other customers and watching what was going on that there was a private function upstairs for 90 guests. Hence why they couldn’t cater for the pub guests as well. The table behind us had also reserved their table and they were not told at any point about the drastically reduced menu, I did at the point I heard them saying what they wanted. Another reserved table of 8 were told it would be 45 to even get some nachos so they left. When our food did eventually come out all the meals felt like they have been rushed, or left under a heat lamp. my husbands sweet potato fries had been cremated which we had to point out to the waitress and ask for new ones, not sure how the chef was happy they left the kitchen. So all in all a disappointment all round. We really had to push for a discount off the food bill which was begrudgingly given as apparently they ‘did say sorry’ Whilst waiting for a while after we had eaten to find out what discount they would offer us no one cleared the table and I saw another customer taking their empty plates up to the bar. Will not be going back for food any time soon I hope the 90 pre paid meals makes up for your damaged reputation from all the guests who will share about their awful experiences tonight.

Very small portions .I had a salad with very small dry chicken. There were 12 of us my sisters hunters chicken was also very dry and the others had roast again small and cold we were not offered extra potatoes or yorkshire found out after wards after seeing other customers getting them nice pub though in good location be great in the summer

Lovely wedding venue and great staff, especially Emillie!

We had our wedding reception at this venue and it couldn't have been better. Kieron and the team were amazing and Emillie and Lauren were so helpful setting up the room and Tia, Jack and Kieron were so helpful on the day. Staff on the day were excellent and the food was really good, many guests commented on how much they enjoyed the food and the venue. A day to remember, thank you team Churchillian!

I attended a wedding reception here on Valentines Day 14 February 2024 and had a memorable time enjoying the facilities and food. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff - they were all very helpful and worked hard to make sure the 50+ lunch guests and the further number of evening guests were happy and responded to requests efficiently, speedily, and with a smile. Thank you April, Tia, Jack, Keiron and Emillee! The reception was held in an upstairs room, but the rest of the pub is worthy of a mention - the furnishings were cosy and welcoming - and the views from the pub's position on the hill above Portsmouth is outstanding. My favourite 'find' was a section for dogs - yes all things doggy were available on their own menu - drinks and snacks! See the photos.

40 years after our first date at this pub, my wife and I visited for lunch. Good food and service and many fond memories

It was alright, read the reviews and was a little concerned but it really was quite good and a lot better than expected. Father-in-law said the hunters chicken will take some beating and wants to visit again so he can have that again!

Had a lovely time at Churchillian yesterday.The food was lovely and arrived quickly, had a great selection of drink behind bar as well .The customer service was excellent and incredibly attentive. Would like to mention Kieran and Steve who were extremely helpful I’ll definitely be coming back soon !!

Scott and Lauren were warm and welcoming and the pub has a new menu. Food was excellent and choice was much improved. I had the Scallops to start and a lovely red wine and fennel sausages. They have really gone out of the way for dogs which is great I’ll definitely be bringing mine next time. Place looks very smart inside much better than before. A clear day so great views over to the IOW

Starters arrived after main meal Kids burger was burnt and didn’t come with lettuce or chunky chips as advertised Chicken wings were from the worlds smallest chicken Onion rings burnt Generally not very good.

My partner and I had a lovely evening at the Churchillian. Greeted with a warm welcome into a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. Lauren was our host who was lively, upbeat, confident and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and she checked with us to make sure everything was ok, and made sure we were well looked after. The food was great. Served hot and nicely presented. Overall a great experience. Top marks. We look forward to coming back soon.

I had a lovely evening last night, the staff were super welcoming and it only got better from there. The food I ordered came out hot and beautifully displayed which was paired perfectly with a nice pint of Ale. I will definitely be back!

You know when you've planned a special night for weeks and then you don't eat much during the day because you're so looking forward to the three course meal you've pre booked and then it's all rubbish but to make the best of it you power through and eat at least some of it especially because you hate making a fuss by complaining....well this was our family's experience here last night. Some of it was actually laughable. We even tipped the fabulous waiting staff who had to bring out the embarrassment that your establishment had the audacity to call dinner. Deep fried everything overdone to a crisp, presentation nil, rubbery chicken breast, re heated chips, uncooked pasta, overcooked chicken burgers, warm wilted salad, four button mushrooms in a goo of cheese, burnt garlic bread. All pre ordered as this was a huge birthday party do but none of it was brought out together?! It was all late and none of it came out together. Loads of dishes sent back and refunded. You either have cooks who have no clue what the hell they are doing or were short staffed big time in that kitchen. One bar staff? One! A function upstairs for 138 people and your poor small team of waiting staff running around doing all they could go make us all happy. To many customers, to few staff. Management of this place are just greedy, they do not care at all about customer service or experience. They just pack the place out, chuck some burnt crap on a plate and take your money. Shame on you management and owners. I hope all your wonderful waiting staff move on to bigger and better things asap. Luckily the waiting staff all saved our family birthday party from what was close to being a stressful shambles. Don't serve food like this to people, learn to do this properly or don't bother anymore. Alot of your reviews are poor. You're getting this so wrong. Food very average but it’s priced accordingly. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Very busy night for the staff and I felt for them on the night as they could have had more staff on to help with workload, but they had a smile on their face all night, and couldn’t have been more helpful. Special thanks to Elsie and Kieran for their help on the night and making the evening memorable.

Of five meals, three were sent back. The food was cold, literally cold, soggy roast potatoes, chewy meat. I felt sorry for the staff, who were very polite. We were put on bar stools, not at all comfortable. On the upside, the views are stunning, it's dog friendly and the staff are pleasant.

Nice place, friendly staff but terrible food! Went for a birthday meal with 30 people. Most meals were overcooked, alot of it was burnt, most guests left food inedible. Really sad to see this place has gone downhill.

Our experience dining at this establishment was awful. We booked for a large party celebrating our granddaughters birthdays. The food was of a very poor standard, cold, dry, things left off, terrible presentation to name but a few of the issues we had. The food must have sat out in the kitchen for a long time before being served as the gravy was congealed and the mash potato resembled a clod of an unpleasant substance. It appeared that our complaints were inevitable by the reaction of the Manager. He was extremely apologetic and understanding no doubt embarrassed by the food standard being served. I’m glad other reviewers appear to rate their experience much better, but it certainly was not the case for us. Sadly it has left a lasting affect and we would never visit again.

Met a friend for a drink before going to a meeting. Service was fine, most tables had reserved cards on them, although we were the only ones in for the hour we were chatting, however we found a seat. Coffee and tea were ok, nothing special.

Went for a family party on Saturday so out of towners. Venue is in an amazing location. It was dark when we arrived but you could still see the view! Stunning! Staff were very friendly and efficient. Party food was lovely. Saw a few of the main meals downstairs too and they looked amazing. Lovely light decor and a great feel to the place.

Title: "Extremely Disappointing Experience: Sunday Service at the Churchillian Pub" I regret to say that my recent visit to the Churchillian Pub on a Sunday was an absolute disaster. The experience from start to finish was nothing short of appalling. Despite arriving with high hopes for a pleasant meal, it turned out to be a complete shambles. My party and I endured an excruciating wait of two hours for our food, only to receive the news that the main dish we had ordered, roast beef, was unavailable due to them running out. The lack of foresight or communication regarding this matter was truly shocking. The complete mismanagement of the situation was evident, leaving us utterly disappointed and hungry. The staff's inability to handle such a basic issue and the lack of options or alternatives offered to rectify the situation were both frustrating and unacceptable. Overall, I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience. The Sunday service at the Churchillian Pub was an absolute letdown, marred by long waits, poor communication, and an inexplicable lack of menu oversight.

My wife and I came for lunch, my onion rings were so burnt I struggled to cut them. My hunters chicken was bland and had absolutely no taste. When the server came to collect our plates and asked if everything was okay and I explained that it wasn't she replied okay and walked away. Terrible food and terrible service. Will not be returning

Booked a table aprox two weeks in advance and asked for a window seat for my mums birthday. Ened up stuffed in the only corner where the only window looked onto the driveway... It was very cramped. I had a roast dinner and I am convinced they use SMASH, As my mash potatoe was full of power.

where do i start, this i had an incredible experience here last week. Kieran, Jay and Tia were fabulous and extremely attentive. I had the Hunters Chicken it was hot well presented and was served quickly, had a range of different drinks from cocktails to ales which was great! Would 100% recommend to all my family and friends. Had a 6.45pm booking on New Years Eve. When we arrived we got a drink. Then were told there was a 45 minute wait to place an order for food due to a wedding party upstairs running over. There were 3 tables and 20 people ahead of us. Not surprisingly we left and went to Port Solent. Oh, and the only member of staff was an 18 year old ish barmaid trying to run the bar and restaurant. Are the owners trying to close this pub? Make it into a loss making business, much easier to sell for redevelopment. Thanks for messing up our New Years Eve.

Absolute joke of a place wouldn't let my gf in to use the toilet when she's 7 months pregnant, manager said he doesn't care and won't let her in. Was very rude

Had never been here before and won’t be back again. Came for Christmas dinner with the family. No canapés we’re served, waited an hour for a high chair, starters were extremely delayed, and then only9/14 came out, the rest took about another 30 minutes. After this, mains took over an hour to come out (meal was meant to be a total of 2 hours). What came out was less than pleasing. Hardly anything was served as stated, in particular my overcooked salmon with freezing cold (don’t think they were even fully cooked, so didn’t touch them) prawns. I didn’t stay for pudding. Was understandably extremely hacked off and trying to wrangle a toddler who had had enough of waiting around. Plan better

We’ve been to eat here before and always been cheap and cheerful, Unfortunately this time round the food was so over cooked and greasy, every meal we had (7) was bad and the restaurant was quiet so no excuse there. Defiantly won’t be coming again and wouldn’t recommend.

Such amazing food and atmosphere! This was my first visit and everything was great. Even the general manager checked in with us to ensure everything was good! I’ll definitely be back! I would highly recommend to any and everyone!

Wow I can't believe how bad this place has become from last Christmas with amazing staff food and even the manager showed his face and was so greating made us all feel at home I had 10 family members this time due to how amazing it was and I am not one to moan but I wanted to cry the food was definitely not the same and the manager had a mouth like a sewer swearing infront of family and children... this isn't acceptable what a let down

Food was awful 1 order came without what was advertised. Chicken was dry, lasagna looked like it had just been microwaved for to long. Place was dead and only 2 staff, disappointed been here before and always been good, but won’t be in a hurry to go back.

Lacklustre service , no atmosphere , food was barely warm and really dry . Had to ask twice for a missing meal and gravy . The only saving grace is the view of the sea , but we won’t be back . Save your money and give this a swerve .

I have to say at £70 per head for Xmas day dinner, whilst life is not perfect, I expect a certain level of service and quality for this amount of money. What we got was far from this. First off, after being sat, we had to wait 50mins before we were even acknowledged. When the starter finally came out, it was ok. The wait for the main course was excessive to say the least. The food was warm at best, and not even what I call a decent selection of vegetables. Not a sprout in sight! The custard on the Xmas pudding was evaporating in front of my eyes there was so little of it. Other patrons were complaining, and some even left before their deserts because it was taking so long. We were promised a free drink that did not materialise. I appreciate that Xmas day is busy, and that businesses are under pressure, however, I expect much better from an established business such as this

We had such a lovely Christmas Day meal last year, so much so we rebooked for this year. However our experience this year for our table of 9 was not so great. Firstly our table for 9 was set up as a table of 7. I really appreciate people working on Christmas Day - I left a decent tip behind the bar when we arrived; however having to ask for our starters after over an hour waiting wasn’t a good start. Then it was an hour and forty minutes after arrival that I had to ask where our mains were. Two hours after arrival we had our mains which was dry and over cooked. We was offered a free drink which was appreciated but we’d already just bought drinks. I didn’t want to join others in complaining at the time because the front of house staff were doing their best. Things go wrong, it happens but we weren’t made aware of any delays in getting food out. I wouldn’t mind however we paid £70 per person and preordered our food so can’t really see how the delay became so bad. I believe it would have been a much less frustrating situation if we’d been updated during the time we was there rather than just left waiting. People will be more amenable if they are told what’s happening. I can imagine it was a tough day for all of the team & I feel for them. Not sure we’ll be back next year though and having seen the negative reviews on Trip Advisor on lead up to Christmas, it seems that lessons haven’t been learnt. Shame.
