I recently visited the Churchillian pub in Cosham and had a fantastic experience. The food was excellent, and my two elderly relatives thoroughly enjoyed their meals as I did too. The ambience was warm and welcoming, creating a perfect dining atmosphere. Our server, Jay, was particularly excellent, he provided detailed explanations of the menu and ensured everyone was happy throughout our visit. The staff seemed genuinely happy, which added to the positive vibe. We will definitely be back again soon!

Unfortunately the kitchen brigade let the rest of the staff down. Better training or management needed. Undercooked and poorly presented vegetables spoilt what was otherwise a nice meal.

Booked for my father’s birthday paid £45 deposit which was taken when booked. Had a nice big table as there were eight of us. Ordered mainly the triple roast dinners . Was really disappointed. With meal it’ was only warm and not much veg one sprout one parsnip one carrot and three roast pototoes. My sons were still hungry after the meal and my elderly father who is 87 who never eats all he’s food emptied he’s plate also. Didn’t want to make a fuss as didn’t want to spoil the day. But not sure we will return again. That’s for food any way.

Can only imagine the 4 stars on here is for the view from the window ?! Everything inside was literally awful ! We had a table of 6 around 5:30pm on a Sunday. On arrival there were a few other tables seated, but not busy. Our table was filthy and not laid out with cutlery despite pre-booking. Then it just went from bad to worse. I’ll list a brief summary to save time reading ! - Menu had simple items unavailable eg; Hunters Chicken .. but they have no BBQ sauce. No seafood mains available - Starters were all microwaved and/or fried. Literally turned up looking like they’d been rescued from the bin of the last tables leftovers. “Side garnish” looked like grass. Asian slaw was .. I just don’t know. Chilli jam sausages are like dog food consistency jellied meat, again microwaved. - We ordered a selection of mains and nobody was spared except the person who ordered a burger ! - Pork roast was cold anyway and brought out whilst we were still eating starters, and nearly 15mins before anyone elses main, with no sides. We asked for a replacement to allow us to eat together and a warm meal for £14, which actually ended up being the same microwaved meal returned with gravy and red cabbage added to side as a “gesture” ?! (The plate was in fact boiling from microwave and we’d removed the crackling and marked the gravy from the original roast so we’d recognise its return) - Hunters chicken looked more like a slab of cheese with the same fries pictured in an earlier review on here. - 2 x pies were served with 4 carrots as a side and a huge space on the plate for maybe a potato ? .. but that never arrived. - Side of chips ordered to fill the plate space .. they never arrived, along with a coffee ordered at the same time .. both were on the bill. - Sweet potato & leek tortellini has the same chilli paste dog food sauce as the sausages we think ?! - Two sides of veg were so ‘microwavingly’ (my new word) dehydrated that we couldn’t tell what veg it actually was ?! This did actually become amusing in the end ?! First time I’ve ever refused to pay somewhere in my life, or anywhere in the world. The bill (no drinks) came to approx £125. I offered to pay £30 for the burger and tortellini but this was declined and we were made to pay £58 instead for our starters ?! Not sure on the logic here. Promised a call back to discuss our issues … have today chased and awaiting a call from head office apparently ?! Sept 2024 - fyi call back never received 😅 Either way, won’t be returning for even a drink. It’s such a shame as this pub has an incredible location and such an opportunity to thrive in that area.

Use the Churchillian on many occasions. Pub doesn't seem to change in all the years that we have been going there. Although turnover of management seems to change on regular basis? Nice pub in prime location. Only issue I really found was that soft drinks were incredibly expensive. Example £2.60 for half a pint madri but £3.30 something for a diet coke!!! There is no need for my kids drinks to be more expensive than a lager. If that could get this cost down I'd be encouraged to go there more often.

Don't come for the food. Ordered 3 sunday roasts. Really, not a 15/16 quid per plate meal. Two thin slithers of overcooked beef, new potato's 'roasted' in their skins so ridiculously tough it was difficult to puncture the skin with a knife, small amount of vegetables, had to ask for more gravy. This quality is more like five pounds weatherspoons meal. We're not normally inclined to complain at restaurants, however on this occasion we were not happy at being served an extremely budget meal, at a premium price band. Clear the company who own the pub are aiming to extracting max profit from the customer. In all fairness, the duty manager on the day dealt with our complaint well. I'd be surprised if we are the only people who have brought the issue up. Maybe other food is better than the roast, but wouldn't advise eating here. Nice pub atmosphere/ambiance, staff were friendly, good view over portsmouth from the outside seating.

Came here for a family Sunday roast and we were not disapointed. Prices here are fairly priced for what you receive. It was during a busy time of day but the staff were quick and very professional. Food was served pretty quickly and was really tasty with a good size roast and unlimited potatoes, yorkies and gravy is always a plus. Customer service was excellent, Selby was very attentive and brought everything we asked for in a very timely manner. Scott came over during our meal to make sure we were happy and if we needed anything else, which was very good. After we finished our table was cleared quickly even though they were very busy and dessert followed soon after. The rhubarb sundae was amazing. Will definatly be coming back on a sunday for one of the best roasts I have had in a long time, and a cheeky sundae to finish off. Thank you to all staff and the chefs for a fantastic meal.

The Churchillian is in a superb location and we were shown to a table with a great view over Portsmouth. After that it became disappointing. I have rarely been to a restaurant in recent years where customers order and pay at the bar. I sought pen and paper and took the drinks and food order, dutifully queued at the bar and of course some items were not available, so back to our table to seek a variation. Two of our orders were intended to come from the 2 or 3 course menu. I explained that and paid. No receipt was offered. I checked what I paid and it did not tally with two meals from the 2 course, it was based on the main menu so cheaper but no dessert included. We didn't bother with desserts or coffee. A large party was being served in the function room so service was not too speedy. Such a shame.

Went for my 50th birthday. Really unhappy with the staff there. 1st thing waiting at the bar for a drink got blanked for a local. Then they can't even cook a steak how you ordered it. Shambles the sink in the mens toilet didn't work couldn't even wash my hands after having a wee. Makes me wonder about the hygiene of the place. In response to your reply what you are saying is an absolute lie. That's why my sister in law took he steak home and gave it to the dog. My son in law couldn't eat the burger he ordered. I also really don't appreciate being made out to be a fibber. The sink in the mens loo was broken I tried both hot and cold water but no water!!! And as far as you saying you offered us a free dessert that rubbish too. By the way thank for the plates when you guys came out with my cake NOT had to eat it of a napkin. Suppose that didn't happen. What was the real problem here was a table of seven to much to handle? Is there a problem with us as people it's not like we are a bunch of crackhead looking mugs of the street. Take some responsibility for your poor service and broken taps. Let's just be real it was a mess from the moment we walked in the door. I was devastated as I was looking forward to that meal all week and spending time with my family and it was a joke. Never again

Late lunch on a Monday afternoon. I must congratulate the barmaid who served us on being pleasant and efficient. Another good point was the Fullers London Pride, which again was excellent. Unfortunately, that is where the plaudits end. We both ordered Fish & Chips which were dire! I have no idea what fish was provided. Certainly not Cod or Haddock. The fish had a strange and unpleasant taste and texture. That is not the worst of it. The batter was both very hard, some parts I could not cut the batter with a knife. When combined with the excessively fatty/oily taste. This the worst fish I have eaten ever and I’m over 70 years of age. Strangely, the menu is very limited and we selected the fish and chips by default. For a chain that describes itself as “Pubs with great Food”, you must take this statement with a massive pinch of salt. It’s been a long time since I visit the establishment. But I can’t contemplate of visiting again.

Despite repeating my order of two lots of sandwiches and one nachos order to the (manager I think) person behind the bar, he got the order wrong. Only one set of sandwiches arrived. When my wife went to pay for the managers mistake, he came over to supervise the payment, clearly to make sure we were paying. There was no apology at all. We were made to feel like we were an inconvenience. Most of the other staff were very pleasant it was just the person who seemed to be in charge. I wouldn’t recommend this at all. They were actually both visibly burnt black!! Cold wet mash. Tender sprouts were on the card but never came. How do they get away with this??!! Have a drink. The view is exceptional. But don't waste money on the food.

We had a TBone steak each and although that was cooked properly, the cauliflower cheese extra we had appeared to be griddled cauliflower in cheddar cheese, which was very oily and even burnt. We sent that back along with the under cooked onion rings. The waitress and staff were polite though & dealt with the issue properly.

I romped up after walking up to the viewpoint. Service wasn't the quickest sadly. Seemed one girl only on till as others did whatever.

Been twice now since the takeover (it was absolutely diabolical before)..the owners have completely turned it around! Food great...£8.50 lunch menu is fantastic, value for money with large portions for the price, staff are really friendly & the place is full which makes for a great atmosphere! Well done, keep up the food work!

Am a local that hasn't eaten at The Churchillian for about 5 years - thought my friend and I would try it today for lunch. Unfortunately the kitchen was closed due to a 'technical' problem (the chef left early), the barmaid kindly supplied us with a couple of bags of crisps free of charge. Within 5 minutes the same barmaid informed us that a replacement chef had arrived. Great, we ordered Hunters Chicken (this was tiny, must of been a itsy bitsy chicken - plus it was dry) and a Lasagne - very liquidy and not alot of taste, together with 'garlic bread' a slice of normal sliced bread toasted heavily one side with garlic butter. Would have spoken to bar staff, however had already had a conversation - asked for a cooked sausage (for my dog) informed they could not oblige due to their food stocktaking - I didn't expect it for free, wanted to pay for it, but 'no' was the answer (yes, the pub welcomes dogs and they do sell various dog food - they are hard and my little dog can't chew them - he loves to try the sausages in the pubs I visit 😉) No staff were around when we left the bar to speak to .....

Good views. Service always awful, never got any beers on tap and staff often seen away with the fairies and disinterested. Such a shame as venue is great. ***update*** Went to try again. New manager staff seem better. Ordered food and paid on app as suggested to be told they stopped serving @ 8pm. Nothing on menus (still left on tables) or the app today so. Out of pocket 25 sovs for two weeks until they will apparently refund me. What a load of old Tommy Tank. Give it a swerve.

Pre-booked a table for 4 with a window view, told on arrival that window tables only seat 3 and that we had to have a table elsewhere in the pub. The only USP for the place is the amazing view across to Portsmouth and the harbour! Food was OK but menu was pretentious and over priced, they just serve up the usual pub grub.

Great location but it's very small inside and is often overwhelmed by strong cooking smells. For some reason they don't have adequate ventilation!!
