I have stayed in a lot of hotels of the years and this was without doubt the worst experience I’ve ever had. To access the room, we had to walk around the back of the pub near the kitchen and step over a channel of dirty kitchen water. The room was extremely small and lacking some basic necessities e.g. a bin. We overlooked these issues and went for a meal in the pub downstairs (we found the food massively overpriced for minuscule portions). Then the problems really started, the walls and floors didn’t insulate sound very well and we hear noise from the pub all night. Unfortunately this didn’t stop when the pub closed and in fact the music got louder and louder. Eventually, soon after midnight I went down to ask them to reduce the noise and found a number of staff members having a lock in and smoking joints. They said they’d turn the music off and I went back upstairs. The music was turned off for a few minutes and then started back up again. At around 2am, we were still trying to ignore the noise and get to sleep when a torrent of water started pouring through the fire alarm in the ceiling directly onto our bed. The water turned out to be dirty shower water from a staff room above. The bed was soaked and after complaining again to a (heavily stoned) staff member, we were let into a spare room that we were assured was clean. I immediately thought that the room didn’t look clean and on further inspection of the bed, it appeared either a dog or an incredibly hairy man had been sleeping there, as the bed was absolutely covered in hairs and dirt. We contemplated driving home that night but as it was almost morning anyway we decided to stay and the lesser of two evils was the bed soaked with dirty shower water. In the morning, I cancelled our next night and requested a refund. We got the refund but received no further compensation for what can only be described as the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had.

As a coeliac they would remove items to make it gluten free, but that then meant I had venison and mashed potato (described as crushed swede but very little swede). They remove the kale and black pudding. So the £30 price tag and an extra £4 for cabbage which surely could have replaced the kale?? Was very steep. The venison was however delicious and very well cooked. The creme brulee dessert was also divine.

Absolutely first class ! We had a sumptuous lunch at the start of a family trip to the Cotswolds and it was one of the highlights of our weekend break. The food was superb and the service from manager Ed and his team was attentive, friendly and good-humoured. We felt like old friends rather than guests. Prices are restaurant/gastropub end of the spectrum but well worth it. If you want a special meal out or just to treat yourself in this part of the Cotswolds, would highly recommend.

What an absolutely lovely afternoon we had at The Churchill Arms. We took my dad there for a belated birthday present - and the five of us had a brilliant time. The food was AMAZING. I had the sea bream and it was just heavenly. We all agreed it was the best meal out that we had had in years. Huge thanks to the bar manager (I believe called Ed) - he was spot on. Funny, attentive and not shy with the odd complimentary limoncello! Thank you again. We would 100% recommend anyone head there for a delicious meal and a few drinks - and we would absolutely choose it over the Ebrington Arms (don’t get me started on that place…)

I had the pork t bone and it is one of the fantastic one I had in Cotswold. Very tasty and the steak is well cooked and tender. My partner had a fish fillet which was very delicious and not too salty and not too moist. The fish is very well cooked and use a lot of love to cook such on point dish. However, I feel the sides are too salty and too overdose for my liking and it could be my Asian taste bud that I prefer simpler food and not too overdose of favour. I definitely will come back again in july for another meal with u guys ! 😊

20th February 2022: Lunch for 5 (with ages ranging from 23 to 67). This is a warm welcoming pub, with particularly good food. We had 3 "sharing" starters of calamari, lobster arancini, and pork crackling (all fab) plus 2 haddock souffles. Mains: delicious roast beef with whopping yorkies and plenty of veg, and 3 "pie of the day" which was chicken with tarragon - a favourite! Excellent service and a very relaxed laid back atmosphere. A lovely English pub with great food....just perfect!

A well balanced well prepared home made personalised meal, quality ingredients, balanced with a well presented front of house service. Since it was the first day of opening, 3 of us tested the menu and the chef to a vast selection of their menu , which all came out together, presented well and seasoned well, menu well thought out and cooked to perfection. starters Salmon Soufflé, Caramel onion Scotch egg, and confit duck all recommendable. Mains were Fillet Steak, Venison and Pie of the day to die for in a positive sense, with Ginger sponge, Fudge , sour dough and a selection of hand made warm alcoholic drinks, All in all a positive friendly experience, and one you should try yourselves!

We were staying in Paxford for a family trip between Christmas and new year and couldn’t have been happier with our local. The staff were all friendly and helpful, the pub was just the right level of buzzy/busy but you could still get a seat when you walked in. A great selection of drinks and very pretty with a real fire. Worth a visit if you’re staying in Paxford or walking through.

What an amazing dinner! I’d booked for my husband’s birthday as we were staying in the Cotswolds, and wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but it surpassed every expectation. The pub itself is quite small, and manages to feel both modern and cosy. The unassuming set up and really welcoming staff meant I wasn’t expecting Michelin-standard dishes but the food was truly exceptional. The beef Wellington was the best we’ve tried (the Savoy included) - it was a huge portion, cooked to perfection and presented really beautifully. Our soup starter was also lovely, and the arancini amuse bouche was a nice touch, too. The quality of the dishes merit the prices. To comment on some previous reviews, it’s true that there isn’t a car park but not surprising for a small, local pub in a small village. If it’s a quiet night (as it was when we visited), it’s possible to park next to the pub but otherwise there are other places in the surrounding area. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

We visited on a Sunday afternoon. We found the decor, lighting and music a bit odd and more cafe like and not bet welcoming, although there is a cosy fire (not tended to during our visit so it went out). The lighting is far too bright for a restaurant. The starters were ok but nothing special, we had the soup and salmon. The main event, the roast dinner was outstanding. My husband said the roast pork was the best he has ever had with fantastic crackling. The lemon tart dessert was next level. We would return again just for the Sunday roast. The wine was a bit punchy for the quality.

The Churchill Arms is a gorgeous pub in a lovely little village. There was a wood fire going and a lovely buzz in the bar area. We were seated straight away in a lovely little area off of the main bar area. There was a good range of food on the menu; I had salmon to start (literally melted in your mouth) and the fillet beef for main course - it was cooked to perfection and the side dishes are delicious. There are also lovely desserts - some lovely classic dishes; treacle tart and sticky toffee pudding!! There’s a great range of wine on the menu and the waitress kept refilling our water bottle throughout the evening. The meal was amazing and so delicious that we have already re-booked for a repeat visit!!! Would definitely recommend a visit.

All the waiting staff were really accomodating and friendly. We had some miscommunications prior to the booking in relation to what menus we would be ordering from. I’m a bit of a stickler for restaurants. Food doesn’t have to be Michelin star, but I really enjoy places that feel comfortable and welcoming as soon as you walk through the door. That is the Churchill Arms. We were instantly welcomed into a warm, cosy, ‘local’ feeling country pub, and yet you can tell from the off that the quality of food is going to be good. For an old building the interior is modern and sleek; not too dingy or dark, but nicely bright. The staff were, I have to say, impeccable. We were looked after with an ease of service that only comes from a relaxed, well oiled ship. The head waiter / barman / owner (sorry, but didn’t get details, although he was so warm and confident he clearly knows the place well) was so cool and calm and warm we instantly felt welcomed. The drinks menu was extensive and good value. We went back for a drink the following day and the local ales were great. The menu was short, but excellently balanced; it brings to mind the old Gordon Ramsey adage that 5 quality starters, mains and deserts is all you need. And that’s the case here. The little ‘Chef’s treat’ of an arancini was probably the most delicious morsel I’ve eaten for a while. Service was prompt, friendly and attentive, and at an excellent pace. I’d strongly recommend visiting this restaurant if you’re in the area. Good good, great drink, and wonderful service make it a place worthy of spending a few quid. Thank you to the whole team.

We booked the early evening, first sitting (2 hour slot) for a very special celebration dinner and we agree with all the positive reviews on TA! The menu maybe a little unusual but trust me, it’s worth going with it because the tastes are out of this World. Just can’t fault the food. Wine list is varied and reasonable for a restaurant of this high standard, whilst the service is what you would expect. In our case perfectly friendly but highly professional. Well they say, the only way to know the true quality of an establishment is by the way they deal with a problem; well these guys do know how to deal with a problem. Without going into details, there was an exchange of views between ourselves and the manager on the night regarding a pretty serious problem. We followed up with an e-mail and were immediately called directly by the owner where the matter was discussed like adults, apologies tendered and no issues left open. Thank you, everything finally dealt with, with exceptional professionalism.

We enjoyed our visit here for lunch in the garden at well-spaced tables. Food very good, some of the service a bit sirly! We have had better food for the same price.

Food was good - not as good as we were expecting though,, we’ve had a lot better for less cost. Room was a let down. Very small no space for clothes only 5 hooks on a coat hanger rail! Lacked any charm, blandly painted white,...

We booked here in advance as my daughter had been recently and had raved about the Sunday lunch. Initailly there was some slight confusion with our booking, however the Team managed to resolve it promptly and we were seated at lovely round table which also allowed us to keep our dogs out of the way. The Sunday lunch menu is a fixed price for 2 or 3 courses and represents amazing value even been before you have received your food. Once the food had arrived there was never any point when I wasn't overwelmed with evey meal served up. This place is exceptional in everyday for what in reality is a pub restaurant. We have rebooked in November for an evening meal and hope to be able to make a similar amazing TripAdvisor report. Thanks to the Team at The Churchill Arms. Keep it up.

We stayed here for a few nights and what a total find. The food is exceptional - seriously good, reasonably priced for such quality and served with a smile. A buzzy atmosphere even in Covid times. Thoroughly recommend and would love to return in the summer to the beautiful garden, little lightbulbs among the trees. Brilliant!

We had a 3 course dinner on Saturday 18th. Warm welcome and top class friendly service throughout the meal. The quality of the food excellent and the presentation worthy of a Michelin rosette. Nice ambience and in keeping with current restrictions tables were well spaced but maintained a good atmosphere.

Usually very impressed with this local favourite. The staff are efficient and attentive, the menu interesting and varied. Last couple of visits have been disappointing... Starters are shrinking in size and content, and main course, e.g. Butterflied Mackerel now reduced to one slim fillet, hidden under lots of flavoursome fennel. Having to pay extra for vegetables to bulk out the meal is slightly galling. £200.00+ for dinner for four, with only 2 courses each and a bottle of wine to share, feels like less good value than it once did.

We travelled from Stratford-upon-Avon to visit Hidcote Manor Gardens on Sunday and came across The Churchill Arms as a heavily recommended place in the run-up to our visit. We love finding great places for Sunday Roast and it was between here and The Ebrington Arms from our shortlist. In the end, because of the Chefs credentials and great reviews, we chose here. It was easy to book and we were really excited about our visit.Unfortunately, as we waited by the door to be seated, the greeting from the guy was very unwelcoming, and when we entered the pub it became clear there was an 'atmosphere'. It just continued from there - it took over 15 mins to get served for a drink, and it was difficult to get any staff's attention to ask for anything as they visibly avoided eye contact. All of the other tables around us were noticing the same thing and were audibly unhappy with the attitude of the male in the shirt who appeared to be managing the place. It was a real shame as the food, especially the beef and the gravy, was delicious. We were going to stay for desserts and coffees but getting any service was so difficult that we changed our minds. We sat for 20 mins with plates waiting to be cleared and couldn't get any attention for the bill, so in the end we walked to the bar to pay and left. Perhaps we just caught the place on a 'bad day', as we all have from time to time, but the service really was very poor. The food was 5 star, but the service was 1, and that's why I've reflected our experience in this review.

Nick Deverell-Smith has developed this rustic 17th Century tavern to be much appreciated by locals and visitors. Fine food, wide selection of ales and wines, in a chic and comfortable atmosphere. Service is responsive yet unobtrusive. Some portions, notably the scallops starter, were less than generous. But, overall, a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Fortunately we had pre-booked our table for dinner as it was busy. Food was delicious - go hungry as portion sizes are substantial, we didn’t have any room for dessert! Staff were really friendly and there was a nice relaxed atmosphere.

We went here today to visit for lunch, I had booked in advance after doing research on places to eat in the Cotswold while we visit here for the week and we had a long walk that morning so needed a big lunch!I am so glad I did! Friendly and attentive staff, faultless. The food was some of the best I have ever had. I had the Beef Tartare to start and it was delicious, as were the crackers on the side. The main was the stand out for me, I ordered the T-Bone Pork steak which was the tastiest pork ive ever had (Pork being my favourite to order at pubs/resturants so ive tried a fair few!). Everything that accompanied it was just as good. My partner had the ham hock to start and the coltswold fillet of beef, which was also faultless. Service on par with the food, couldnt have been better. Will recommend this place to everyone coming this way. Keep it up.

The service was very good and it was a lovely comfortable place to eat. Will definitely return when we are in the area next time

We stayed 3 nights at the Churchill and thought it was absolutely perfect for what we wanted. It’s primarily a gastro pub and the food is genuinely excellent. They also look after their beer well and have good hand-pulled ales on draft, if that’s important to you (it is to me). We ate there all three nights and also had breakfast each day. The menu has good variety and everything we had (and we had a lot) was very well cooked and thought through. Service was friendly and prompt, despite the Covid restrictions. The owner/head chef made a point of coming to chat with all the customers which is always good to see. The bedroom is nicely furnished and good value. It is not a hotel, so go somewhere else if you want those type of facilities/rooms, but if you want a comfortable room with character then this is your place. The village is tiny but is a very good base for exploring the beautiful Cotswolds. We recommend it highly for food and/or a stay.

The staff were accomodating of our last minute changes in plans and service was professional, courteous and friendly. Fantastic pub. We were here for the weekend and visited twice! The food is delicious, the staff are friendly, knowledgable and helpful. The bar manager had a great knowledge of the wine list and made a fabulous espresso martini! Could not fault this place. The best Roast Beef I have ever tasted! So lovely that Nick came to check on us. What a fabulous place you have!
