The Church Inn in Birmingham

Lovely little pub. Excellent atmosphere for a Saturday night. We had booked a table earlier in the day and lucky we did as the small dining area was full. Lovely welcome. Ordered food and drink at the bar. Notified of a little delay for the pie for my partner which was no problem. I had the burger which was lovely, hot, tasty and a very good portion size! Unfortunately, my partner’s pie was cold in the centre, he also tells me his mash was not hot either but he’d eaten that. He was unable to eat the cold pie so alerted a member of staff at the bar. No one up until this food had checked if the food was okay. They could not have dealt with the situation better to be honest. Told us they would refund straight away, apology from both front of house members of staff, they warmed it up, they offered a drink on the house which we declined as were driving. It happens sometimes, but the professionalism in dealing with a problem was what stood out, thank you for not making it awkward, for being friendly and accommodating. Not sure we’ll be back for good but I’ve been here a few times for drinks before or after going to the Blue Orange Theatre across the road so I’ll continue this.

Booked for Sunday lunch at the Church Tavern as it came up as one of the best Sunday roasts in Birmingham when I Googled it, and I was not disappointed. I received a phone call in the morning asking me if I wanted to order my roast then, as they may have ran out by the time I arrived. On arrival, I we were greeted by a very welcoming member of the bar staff. When the dinner arrived, the beef was perfectly cooked, as were the accompanying veg. I am a bit of a fan of a roast dinner, and I can honestly say I would struggle to think of one as good as this. The two course Sunday lunch is also great value for money. I shall definitely be returning,

Stop in here on a Saturday night. Wow. What a great location. Real ales were fantastic, atmosphere was so friendly and music great for a Saturday night. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Go and try this place I can guarantee you will love it.

I wasn't sure about this restaurant as there were a few negative reviews. We eat out a lot, and I was not disappointed here. The service (thank you, Steve) was excellent, and the food was delicious!!!! We had squid to start, then a fish main, plus lovely puddings. I can't fault either the service or the food. We will be back when we revisit Norwich.

Embarassing! I’d booked this following amazing reviews from local food bloggers. Arrived into a freezing cold, gloomy pub with an equally freezing welcome. Shown into a ‘dining space’ which was empty, freezing and unwelcoming. Drinks were nice, that’s where it stops. Mushroom starter was basic given the description, burnt toast and tepid temperature: mains arrived and veg sent back for being cold, returned warmish with no apology. Main of roast beef was so tough and cold. I returned my main to an uninterested server who didn’t do anything to rectify the issue, she didn’t even come over to ask how it could be rectified. Just left me with nothing. Plates cleared with no basic customer service “how was everything” nothing! An absolute shambles and an embarrassment to hospitality. We paid our bill and left under a cloud

We celebrated our engagement party here in October and really could not fault The Church one bit. From the moment we asked to view the ‘dining room’, your team was incredibly welcoming, friendly and responsive - answering all our (many!) questions and offering support where needed with the menu. The stresses of the day (decorating etc.) were hugely alleviated by you accommodating us; letting us in earlier to decorate and offering your help when needed. As for the party itself, it was also great. It was a nice surprise learning that the cocktails were 2-4-1 at the start of the night. And even though the cocktails had to be made (and ordered) in the main pub, our bartender took our orders in the dining room and brought over our cocktails, which was a lovely touch. The food was delicious and we had our guests saying how nice the food was. The beers were also great, and was a reasonable price. The Church held our decorations and took us no more than 5 minutes to collect the next day. Everybody, including ourselves had a great time in all respects. Would definitely recommend these for a function - or a casual visit - as the food, drinks and service were all amazing.

Arranged sunday lunch with a great friend... met in the bar and went through to the dining room.. he was nicely surprised.. meal was superb.. well presented and hot.. Nice selection of wine (Argentinian malbec was to die for) we spent a lovely afternoon catching up.. staff were attentive and pleasant...would definitely go again... ! Thank you

The pub, and eating area, is dog-friendly which is a definite plus for us. The food was fine, although some was only lukewarm. Service was friendly, but some of the food took a long time to arrive. Cocktails are expensive. I would go back, but there are plenty of better restaurants in Birmingham.

We visited for Sunday lunch and we loved it. The portions were very generous, the food was delicious - gravies were outstanding - and service was great. I enjoyed every mouthful in a lovely setting and a drink in the sun on the roof terrace afterwards was the best way to round it off. Definitely will be back.

Lovely friendly pub and delicious food - 2 had steak and voted it best ever 1 had fish and chips and I had poached chicken - highly recommend

We was staying in Birminghams jewellery quarter and was bar hopping when we stumbled into this place. Great atmosphere, everyone seemed to know each other and dog friendly! We sat next to the door and enjoyed people watching and greeting the dogs coming in. Nice and friendly staff and a good atmosphere for Friday evening

The dining room is more "back room of a pub" rather than "restaurant" but was fine. We were sat near to the doors which were in canstant use so quite draughty. All the food is delivered through these doors and has to go through the yard which was frequently occupied by groups of drinkers who were smoking. Not a nice view or smell for a diner. The cocktails were pleasant but rather small. the food was good and the service was fine. The roof terrace is still "under construction". My main issue was when we went to pay the bill it was card only. This should be made clear before booking and then I could chose not to use such a place. We retired to the bar for more drinks and this was also card payments only. Pleasant evening but could have been excellent if they were a little more customer oriented.

Booked a table for 9 as part of my daughter’s 50th birthday celebrations for Saturday 14th January. Seated straight away & 8pm. Only one other occupied table in restaurant which is at the back of the pub. Cold and soulless room. We could just about have dealt with that waiting for the starters was way too long. However, waiting for the main course was ridiculous. We began to think the chef had left the building and although the food was ‘ok’ the waiting for it wasn’t. Celebration dinner it wasn’t. We were pleasant and tolerant. We did get a discount on the bill but not enough to cover the disappointment. Will visit Birmingham again. We definitely won’t visit The Church.

Was going to the clifden ..but was closed...so headed to the church. Wish id never bothered. Beef very rare and very chewy...vegetables hard..carrot i couldnt get my knife through it. The roasters were tiny..and tasted fatty.. The plates were brought out with meat and roasters on..we waited 2 or 3 minutes for vegs tobe brought and a further 2 or 3 for cauliflower cheese ...very slapdash...wont be returning

It's something that really gets under my claw, public facing businesses that refuse cash... Like we didn't have enough "being told what to do and repression" during Covid times...(and watched a friend 'jump' to get out of being "told what to do", 2 years, to the day, tomorrow!) Rose la Vie? Cocktail was nice, but, drank it up, and left, on principle.. Please do not do business with places that refuse cash, as it's heralding a cashless society "no tooth fairy money, no paper note slipped in grannies birthday card etc" for a start... morally reprehensible on many levels Refuse cash... No, just no!!!

A pub whose only draught beer is Carling is somewhat limited. I would be less disappointed if it weren't such a crap beer.

Visited here for a Sunday roast having not been before. Food was absolutely delicious and meat cooked to perfection, food was also on 241 which was an added bonus. Staff were friendly and accommodating and the pub was also playing great music. Nice relaxed atmosphere for a Sunday lunch.

This pub used to be mine and friends favourite in The Jewelery quarter, what have the new owners done to it, terrible tacky decor, no atmosphere. They ripped out the beautiful bar,removed the cool classy seating, fake flowers adorn the bar. Terrible choice if any of drinks, would not reccomend this place to anyone. Its like someone has bought it and made it into a personal living room. Usually a bar is made better, not torn apart! Makes no sense at all.

We booked a private party here, on our initial booking the manager Claire promised us everything we wanted the following months her contact was poor and she consistently ignored my messages and queries. One day before the party I called her to confirmed what we had agreed and she said she was unable to provide what we had agreed even though I had confirmed on email. Then on the evening of the party, she was extremely rude and unhelpful. The bouncer seemed to think we were beneath him then kicked us out as he said the manager Claire said there had been a fight when no such thing happened (this conveniently happened as soon as we had paid off the drinks tab.)

Had our 12 piece band meet up here. The bar staff was accommodating to a tee, opening up the back room as the front of the pub was quite packed. We ended up stopping until close. Brilliant place, staff was friendly and the place warm...

Excellent service from the manager Claire, great atmosphere and delicious food. Wings for starters and buttermilk chicken main were amazing. The chef had no problem accommodating my friend who only eats extra thin pizza. Great little place

Used to be a good pub, now they have a bouncer who makes paying customers feel unwelcome and barstaff on a saturday who overlook you at the bar for 20 mins serving people who've just butted in.When you pay almost £5 for a pint, you dont want to be made to feel unworthy of sitting in a pub by the bouncer.Go to the lord clifden or rose villa, much better pubs with better management

I visited not too long ago, me and 6 friends. The general state of the place was filthy, there is rats running around the smoking area and roof terrace. There is a massive problem with flies and the staff spray fly killer all over glasses which are then used. The female manager can be heard slagging off customers, staff and owners. Theres rat traps everywhere, including kitchen. The food is far from worth anything like what they charge. The other pubs in the local area have a better vibe, customer service and represent better value. I also overheard the manager claire finn ask a kitchen member to take burgers and buns out of the freezer.

As a regular at the church for the past 10 years, I have continued to sin as well as seen regular improvements. The new general manager Claire who has worked her way up to the top has driven big changes, always smilling and willing to help. I must congratulate her excellent staff who are always smilling and very pollitie. Must try the food and the beer is excellent.

Went to walk in on my own last night. (Saturday). Bouncer stopped me in my tracks. He said I needed to “show him why i should let you in”. I said “ok, why?”. He then told me to leave because I challenged him!! I was very bemused and then he said he was intimidated because I wouldn’t leave! I was on my own, I’m about 5ft 7 and couldn’t intimidate a small a child! Your man has a lot to learn. I’d been out for about 2 hours and even if I tried I couldn’t get drunk enough to not get let in. Bouncer clearly had something up him because I saw him arguing with a customer already inside when I went back past (after getting served in the next pub along with no problems). I will never ever come back for as long as that’s your door policy.

Class Place beer and cocktails on point as usual. Lovely roof top bar too for all the smokers . Music banging . Bringing that soul vibe back! Defo recommendation if your having pre drinks !

Llamado por una pinta en la azotea. Solo se ofrecía una cerveza (solía haber una gran variedad), así que estaba bien, pero el vaso estaba sucio. Hasta lo que solía ser un encantador jardín en la azotea, para encontrar mesas sucias, sin plantas, desperdicios y un hedor repugnante de contenedores. Los contenedores eran del pub, pero obviamente mal administrados con tapas que no se ajustaban, cosas que se derramaban, etc.

La coca cola plana nunca es un buen comienzo, pero luego llegaron las comidas. Las patatas fritas eran encantadoras, te daré eso, pero la hamburguesa - wow; ¡Pagué 9 por eso! Podría haber tenido dos de mcD por ese precio. Y habrían sido mucho mejores.

I used to go there at least once a month since 2 years.. Last time I went (last December), food was incredible as always. Yesterday, a nightmare: food arrived after 1 hour, it was tasteless and portions were ridicolous. Last but not least: pizza. I always regarded the Church as one of the best place where you could have a pizza, but apparently now they serve a small, chewy and soggy pizza instead of the usual wooden fired one...what a pity!

Abbiamo appena mangiato una pizza io e la mia ragazza. Costo 6 pound a testa..ridicolo!! L impasto era buonissimo, forse alcuni ingredienti da rivedere ma nel complesso tutto ottimo...ottima anche la selezione di birre.

How disorganised and disappointing! The whole evening was a complete shambles. I appreciate we were a large party but surely the ‘chef’ has some experience in getting meals to arrive more or less at the same time? Not quite sure why two identical orders arrived 45 mins apart! And when the meals did eventually make their labyrinthine way to the table they were nothing special - just bog standard pub grub. Whatever happened to the jambalaya? I believe the new owners weren’t impressed by the previous menu, so I assume changing the menu to pizzas and burgers offered better margins. Not sure you made much profit from us though. Don’t think we’ll be back and since the change of menu I’d suggest others avoid if there’s more than a couple of you in your party.

We booked a meal for 15 on the Friday before Christamas. They promised on three occasions to send a menu by e-mail ( never came). the pub was feted in the Times for its Louisiana food and real ale. Did not know before we arrrived they had got rid of that bit of the menu.Now majoring in Pizza. We went last year for Christmas, good meal , good food lots of vegeatrian chouice. This year....Oh dear. Peel and Stone have taken over, Our server Jamel was very apologetic about the wait , the service and how slow the kitchen was - an hour between the first person getting their meal and the last. we ordered garlic bread- baked in the oven to nibble on as we chatted - it came at teh end of the meal! One of our party walked out in disgust.,When we arrived the Evearards Tiger ale was off, we were all drinking Sunchaser - guess what it ran out no more of either the cellar ( do they know its Christmas and people drink- 15 boikes do not want cocktails) Supervisor Clare was also very apologetic and reduced the bill but.the oub is not what it used to be. We will not be returning. Advice if you are a party book somewhere else.

The Pizza here is just great. From the outside the pub doesn't look that inviting but inside it is a really nice traditional pub that serves amazing pizza.

Great beer and a lovely renovated Victorian pub. Warm welcome and very cosy - did not have enough time to try the pizza which I am told is excellent.

Nos detuvimos en una bebida rápida mientras explorábamos Birmingham. No tenía la intención de comer, sin embargo, el menú de pizza era demasiado tentador como para no hacerlo. We visited on a late summer evening as a group for drinks and spent around half an hour at the front bar only to discover, upon venturing to find the toilets, that The Church is in fact a large spacious building, incredibly well decorated in a tasteful modern style with a large pizzeria/diner at it's heart, a traditional pub to the front, a snug and a great roof terrace. Que us spending the next couple of hours there.

Ordered pizza to go. Very quick service. Ideal for a quick lunch break. Lovely chicken and ham pizza.

Overall really good. Good pizza, good beer selection, good wine, good atmosphere. Staff were great. Can't fault it.

Popped in on the recommendation of a friend and it had been quite a while since I last ate.

Visited here a few times and recently thought to try it again after the refurb. Unfortunately the old menu is not longer being served (even though it's still on their Facebook page), which contained the excellent jambalaya and ribs which for me was the attraction of the place. Pizza was ok, the base was quite soggy in the centre and not that great value anymore. Unfortunately there are better establishments in Birmingham if you want a pizza.

We would not have stopped at this place without a recommendation - amply deserved. The pizzas were refreshingly different, very good quality of dough and toppings, and the beer selection was good. Service was relaxed but friendly. We will certainly return on a future visit to this city.

Situated in the Jewellry Quarter, The Church has changed from being a good pup to a great pub. It serves a good variety of beers, wines and cocktails and oven baked pizzas. The terrace has been updated and is a lovely place to eat and drink. Worth going a little further for.

I went there last Friday with my partner after seeing a lot of communication on social networks. We live in jewellery quarter and always try to go out locally when we are happy with the quality of the food/ service. We used to go there before until we had a bad experience months ago but we decided to give it a go and try those pizzas.

We went with adult family and sat on the terrace and were very pleasantly surprised at the choice of food. Being vegetarian there was lots to choose from. We offered the tin of olives, pumpkin pizza with pine nuts, buratta with pesto & salad as well as a margarita pizza and potato’s with hummus and chillies. There was not a crumb left on the plates. I would definitely recommend The Church Inn to others.

Stumbled upon this place while I was looking for the toilet afew years ago and was really impressed with the soul food on offer. Unfortunately i returned today and its closed for refurbishment so i had to sit in the doorway and eat a soggy meal deal. please reopen soon!!!

Estuve aquí la última noche, ya que es 2 - 4 - 1 costillas cada martes! (carne, son también buena gratis los lunes 50% de descuento gratis de carne platos) eran 4 adultos y 2 niños, tienen sillas altas. Un montón de espacio. Personal muy atento. El servicio de mesa, si quieres. Amplia carta de bebidas, cócteles, un montón de recomendaría el Titanic Cereza mi padre dijo es mejor que Guinness. Gran tamaño de la porción, la comida increíblemente fresco. Dispuestos a hacer cambios y sustituciones. Gran lugar para ambiente de pub, pero la comida del sur. Menú actualizado regularmente con ofertas especiales y su propia versión de un asado los domingos.

I've been to the church several times but my favourite event is the thanks giving dinner where the food is like home made and lots of it so real good value for money. The live music is spot on and service great. I'm watching out for any other similar events to come up.'

We had lunch at The Church today. It is an unusual menu, which makes it all the better - there's not enough of this kind of thing in Birmingham! I have to say, everything was very fresh and tasty. I went for the Sausage Gumbo, £10, which was delicious. My friend went for the Backyard Burger, £12. Drinks were plentiful and there is an excellent cocktail menu, although we didn't try it as we had to leave. Thank you!

It's a grate place... delicious food with excellent portion sizes and a grate quality.. also a friendly staff...

We ended up in The Church due to overcrowding at our original destination. Well, I think this place will be our first choice next time! Excellent food, we were surprised at the portion sizes, the ‘small bites’ were the size of a main in some places. Lots of vegan options too. A great drink selection and the staff were lovely. Thank you for rescuing our evening and see you again soon.

Great pub with a wide selection of beers and cocktails. Lively venue of a night, especially at weekends when the back bar opens up. Ideal spot in the summer with the roof terrace. Food is nice also! Check it out

A great place to share a meal with family and friends. Friendly staff who know the menu and help with choices. Then leave you alone to enjoy the delicious food and cocktails. Well worth a visit.

Venía de un par de copas con los amigos. Lugar siempre está lleno y tiene una gran lista de cócteles. El bar era agradable para cuando se pone un poco más caliente.

Reservé el Snug pasamos una noche con los amigos. Era un espacio perfecto para una reunión de 10 personas. Las bebidas eran fantásticas y el personal era genial y muy atento, incluso cuando estaba muy ocupado. No comimos, pero ojalá que no como la comida desde la cocina parecía increíble, no había nada de sobras en las mesas me di cuenta.

Gran lugar para comer. Deliciosa comida vegetariana! Soja y gluten opciones gratis gratis. El personal es muy amable.

Estado a la Iglesia un par de veces y tengo que decir que sirven la mejor comida y cócteles que he probado nunca. Lo recomiendo 100%.

I've been here to eat, to drink, to dance, to chill and in all those areas never have I been less than satisfied. The staff have always delivered with professionalism and friendliness; the food prepared fresh and full of unique flavours; neat drinks and cocktails with a variety of quality beers; the music full of soul carefully matched to the theme of the pub resulting in a lovely overall atmosphere. Just! Go!

Walked in to a warm smile and a lovely glass of wine. Great service, tasty sharing plates, and brilliant music playing in the back ground. What a find!

Been there with family last Saturday for lunch and had a wonderful time.

Went to the church with 3 friends for lunch on Saturday. Not the first time, and yet again had a lovely home made meal in a friendly atmosphere and professional service. Between us we tried jambalaya, Mac&cheese;, nachos, winter salad and the vegan burger. We felt looked after and enjoyed the experience. You can feel the difference when people care are passionate about what they do.

Just an amazing pub that I found walking down the street from my hotel. The Backyard Burger was fabulous!!! The Titanic Brewery makes a great porter. Thanks for the amazing food and service.

I wish I could visit more often. Great selection of beers and cocktails and regularly changing menu for food. Their burgers are more than enough to fill you up. The Gumbos remind me of something my nan used to cook. They had a sundae dessert which was a real treat as well.

we called in for cocktails, which were great and ended up eating here too, the main bar was busy but if you cut through towards the loos and across the yard there is another lounge area at the back, they had a DJ come in at 9 too, the food was lovely, good vegan and veggie choice too, we had a great night

Here on a overnight trip and had no idea where to go as not from this area. Stumbled across this diamond in the rough and so glad we did. Made to feel welcome straight away. Clean place with soulful music then the food came out. Fantastic does not come close. Ample portions reasonable price and tastes great. If your in the area try it out. You won't be disappointed

We have been for a meal tonight for a family, birthday meal. We all enjoyed our meals, all nine of us. The food was reasonably priced and we were served quickly. We shall return.
