When they say ‘may contain traces of nuts’ they mean it. Their choc chip cookie hospitalised my nut allergy daughter.

Oh my gosh. What a find. It’s not cheap, but that’s reflected in the location, venue, presentation of food and taste. And goodness, everything was delicious! We were a party of 6; our order consisted of the Medicine and various French toasts. The only gripe is the fried chicken from one plate to another varied quite a bit in size. We don’t know whether one was more generous, or we were short changed on the other? A bit of consistency here wouldn’t go amiss. Other than that, a perfect way to start a Sunday morning. They also allowed dogs too! Service was timely, the venue was beautiful with lots of plants, and everyone of us enjoyed our meal. Can’t wait to come back. Well done!

I have tried 3 of the Medicine Bakery's in the Birmingham area now. I would say that they are completely overrated, overpriced and average with miserable staff who come across quite rude at times.

Only my second time visiting but the food is amazing. It's a shame it took over an hour after ordering to get the food though.

The food here is fantastic, me and my partner both love the fried chicken french toast. Have noticed that staff however aren't very friendly and feel like they don't want to be there. Does bring the atmosphere down which is a shame because the food is great.

I never thought I'd describe a bakery/coffee shop as pretentious but Medicine has somehow achieved it. The only coffee shop I've ever seen that has a waiting area - I was going for a coffee, not a three course meal! Despite it being mostly empty, the awkward and charmless guy on duty seemed put out that I hadn't made a reservation and insisted on seating me in the worst possible place, practically in the lap of another couple. You're a coffee shop, not the ritz. If you're quiet, forget the waiting area and let people sit where they want. Also, a bit of basic customer service training (just a hello would be nice) for your staff would also go a long way.

Frozen bun for the patty, patty was one third the size of the bun. Romesco sauce insipid. Chef carrying bin bag through dining area. A really poor experience from start to finish.

Much more than just a bakery! Medicine is by far my favourite place for brunch in birmingham, the food is gorgeous and made with high quality ingredients. Presented beautifully and with really well-balanced flavours. The location itself is wonderful, going through a hole in the wall in the murky town centre is a bright sun-light filled room with art and greenery. A super welcoming change to the streets. The coffee is okay- not fantastic but the sweet treats are fabulous as to be expected. Definitely a spot worth hitting up if you’re in birmingham. Truly a gem in the rough. Service can be quite slow and inconsistent but it’s understandably very popular and busy during weekend lunchtimes. The food definitely is worth the wait and the fair prices. The harissa eggs benedict changed my life and the medicine is gorgeous too.

The service is the main let down of this place. I really enjoy medicine Codsall so thought I’d have lunch here when in Birmingham. The food was just as nice but there was a hair in it. I had to call over to get the staff to come to our table every time we needed them as service was so slow. I had to ask twice for our drinks, and it wasn’t just us as the table next to us got the wrong order. The layout of the dining area means it’s so loud. I won’t be coming back.

We visited Medicine Bakery in Birmingham as a group of four and, unfortunately, left feeling disappointed. I ordered the Eggs Royale, which arrived lukewarm at best, not just mine, but all of our dishes were served far too cool. The sourdough wasn’t toasted either, which I had expected, although I didn’t specifically request it. The service and atmosphere were both perfectly fine, and the smoothie I ordered was genuinely very nice. However, for a bill of over £70, I’d expect food that’s at least hot. We didn’t raise the issue at the time because we were hungry and completely immersed in our conversation, but in hindsight, we should have, it felt like the food may have been left sitting out for too long before it reached the table.

While the cakes looked pretty, they are sadly the driest cakes on the planet. (Tried two; lemon and blueberry, as well as carrot. Both bone dry and felt stale.) The coffee was also very poor. I saw real coffee beans, but they the flat white tasted of instant machine coffee… (An utter letdown for £4 excluding service fee.) The ‘service’ itself: it took 25 mins for the cakes to be retrieved from the counter and delivered to the table. A very cheeky way to add on the 12.5% when I could have just gotten them myself as you have to get up go order from the counter anyway… As for the actual place, the interior is very run-down compared to the photos you see online.

The food was okay, but definitely not worth the price. I had a dish with just four small pieces of fried chicken and two slices of overcooked toast — quite disappointing for £16. The portion size and quality didn’t really match the cost. My friend ordered a dish called “Medicine,” and unfortunately, it tasted overwhelmingly salty — like putting a spoonful of salt straight into your mouth. We were both expecting something more enjoyable, especially given the presentation and pricing.

Our first time eating in here (had take out a few times) and it was a mixed bag. We waited 16 mins for someone to take our order despite asking twice . The food came quickly and was delicious (maybe a savong grace). When it came to the bill we had to ask twice before someone sorted it. Overall very disappointed with the service but the food was nice!

Place so good, had to write a poem about it... The smell of French toast, Lathered with jam and peanut butter, Drizzled honey, And delicate flowers. “Cigarettes After Sex” Playing in the background, K— Echoing Of multiple conversations, And the pressure sound Of the coffee machine. Visité con mis hijos adultos en el Día de las Madres para el almuerzo. Comida encantadora, el servicio era un poco lento tomando nuestro pedido de bebidas, pero después de eso nos cuidaron bien. El brunch Medicine y la versión vegana fueron excelentes.

As always, for a great breakfast we went to Medicine and we were welcomed by a very kind and helpful Italian waiter, he made the experience truly perfect!

A real gem that is tucked away upstairs, fortunately we'd been given a recommendation, so we knew where to look. We tried the almond pastries and coffee, absolutely delicious, can't wait to go back next time we're in Birmingham.

The bakery is amazing, the vibes are great. The pastries they have are on another level. The seating area is great though looks like a big hall. The atmosphere was very nice. The Medicine Bakery is a staple for those who brunch in Brum. The food is excellent. Well priced. Generous portions and overall delicious. From street level up the stairs you are greeted with a take away counter for loads of baked treat and bread which look and smell amazing. You then have a small hallway with bench seating where the coffee are made which did get a little congested as it’s so popular. We did book which I thoroughly recommend to not have to wait for a table. The dining room is large. Bright and airy with high ceilings, loads of green succulents and gallery walls. Current exhibition is a photography collection of black culture in the UK. Lots of bench style seating down the middle which means you may share the bench with others (something which never bothers me) The service speed is what lets the venue down. The coffee is excellent but always takes a long time to come. This has been a consistent issue with all my visits. The food is delicious. Beautifully cooked and seasoned. Though offering black pepper from a mill and not powered would be expected in a place like this. Overall it’s great with slightly nonchalant service. Book ahead and make sure you have a hearty appetite.

Had the most wonderful time here. The staff were very attentive and the food was excellent. I’m always nervous about new food places due to my nut allergy but they handled it really well with my food being brought separately. I was also allowed to make changes to the item I ordered so it could be on sourdough rather than brioche. Highly recommended and will be returning (worth booking a table though as it was incredibly busy).

The food is lovely but I think personally a few more touches wouldn’t hurt. The price is okay but not somewhere you’d go everyday type thing.?

A great place for breakfast, brunch or lunch

Visited here for the first time after rave reviews from friends. Had a café latte and a hazelnut and espresso swirl. Which were both good and reasonably priced. Service just took forever. The staff looked busy and we're always on the move, but we had to ask to be able to order, and then ask again to pay so we can leave. I'd visit again, but I would call a staff member over earlier to order, rather than just sit and wait like a plum for ages.

Medicin Bakery is a wonderful place with delicious food! The dishes are flavorful and fresh, making it a great spot to enjoy a tasty meal. However, the overall atmosphere can be a bit noisy, and it's hard to hear much due to the loud environment. While the wait wasn't too long, it still felt a bit uncomfortable. I have to start with the service, it was absolutely fabulous. I'm really impressed with the way everyone accommodated to us as a large group, especially Ilaria, Luke, Hamza and Adam. They gave us beautiful recommendations and explained all dishes to us. The food was absolutely stunning. Definitely would come back and recommend. 10/10 all around 👌👌👌

As a long time visitor of Codsall medicine I thought I’d try new street. I won’t be going back. It was like an ice cavern. We asked about the heating and was told it’s not on today. We quickly ate and left. Food went cold far too quickly due to the Baltic temperatures. Not a great experience at all.

I had a fantastic experience at Medicine Bakery! The food and coffee were absolutely top-notch, but what really made my visit stand out was the exceptional customer service; especially from Matteo. From the moment I walked in, Matteo greeted me with a warm smile and a genuine enthusiasm that made me feel instantly welcome. He took the time to talk me through the menu, offering thoughtful recommendations that turned out to be spot on. His knowledge of the bakery’s offerings was impressive, and his passion for great food and coffee really came across. What stood out most was Matteo’s attention to detail and personal touch. He checked in to make sure everything was just right, all while keeping things friendly and professional. It’s rare to find someone who makes customer service feel so effortless and natural, but Matteo did exactly that. Liam and Pete were also brilliant, making sure everything ran smoothly and adding to the welcoming atmosphere. The team at Medicine Bakery truly go above and beyond to create a great experience. If you’re looking for delicious food, quality coffee, and outstanding service, this is the place to go. I’ll definitely be back!

Bought 4 pieces for takeaway. First was an Almond Croissant. Watched the guy with glasses bag it and we then ordered 3 more cakes, all to take away for our train journey home. One we are on our train, no almond croissant was in our bag. Either the guy doesn’t know what he’s doing or it’s a scam. Check your bags before you leave!

Absolutely fantastic selection and baked goods.

I got my surprise bag from Medicine Bakery in Selfridge in Bullring in Birmingham through too good to go mobile application. I had 4 pastries in a grand size!! Cinnamon bun, Jal Brioche Donut, Almond Croissant and Pain Au Raisin. The Almond Croissant was opulent crafted to perfection with that finest chocolate inside it. It was a truly luxurious culinary escape. ---

Possibly had the worst coffee ever today (02/01/25). Ordered an extra hot flat white, my daughter had a decaf extra hot flat white and my wife a cappuccino. All of us found the coffee to be too milky and cold. I felt sick afterwards. The staff that served us were either exhausted or not interested. We had to ask for water 3 times from 3 different waiters. We have been there many times for food which had been really good quality but after today I don't think I will ever return. Terrible customer service.

We went here for lunch the weekend before Christmas and we didn't have to wait long for a table, which was great. There were 2 gluten free options on the main menu, and I picked Huevos Rancheros (swapping fried eggs for scrambled) with hash browns and romesco on the side and an iced matcha latte. I felt fine ordering until the person taking my order said "so coeliac, is it like serious?", which did not fill me with confidence and I just hoped the chefs were more clued up than the people taking orders. (I did not get unwell from eating here.) My food was good and I enjoyed my meal, however the hash brown and my partners food (mushroom and chimichuri grilled sourdough sandwich) were incredibly greasy. Service charge was automatically added to the bill, although the service was nothing to write home about and quite disappointing, especially as someone with coeliac.

I tried the English breakfast (called “The Medicine”), and it was a huge disappointment. It was way too salty and completely lacked any other flavor. Despite being labeled as “Szechuan sausage,” there was nothing remotely Szechuan about it. I can’t believe I finished it—I was too shy to speak up at the time, but honestly, it was awful. Never again 🙂‍↕️😭

Great food. But watch out for seriously sticky wooden tables, use the marble ones, no alioli and knives that don't cut and luxury hash brown that tastes like a packet of sage and onion stuffing.

In my opinion the medicine lounge is mid, I found that the service was up to standard, the staff were friendly and happy to help you with an enquiries. The breakfast was very disappointing, the hash brown had the texture of cardboard and strangely you were served with a side of greens which was overwhelmingly wet and sloppy. In conclusion if you would like a tasty pastry come to the Medicine bakery but if you want a nice traditional fry up go to a local Wetherspoons.

Listed on the menu is “The Medicine” breakfast. It’s quite honestly the worst version of a cooked breakfast I have ever had. Egg and toast (fine). But half a plateful of soggy kale? A Szechuan? Spiced sausage Pattie and a greasy house brick that they call a hash brown (inedible). I’m sure their croissants are fine but if you like a cooked breakfast this isn’t the place to find one. Sorry Medicine but you need to review your menu.

I had what looked like bits of fried egg floating in my breakfast tea. After taking it over to staff I wasn't offered anything to make up for it or even an apology with the replacement. Also the toilet situation is pretty crazy for the size of the place. Seems insane to have one tiny unisex toilet in a cramped stairwell for the amount of customers it seats.

We’ve visited a few times for breakfast and always had a great experience. Fast, friendly service with delicious food. Excellent quality at reasonable prices. Great atmosphere and diverse menu options.

I tried their Passion Fruit French Toast and Fried Chicken French Toast. The later have my heart. It was worth the price . The tangy hot sauce which came with it along with the honey lifted the taste of the toast & chicken to another level. Will defensively recommend. The ambience of the place is worth a mention, i felt like i was inside a green house.

Had a rubbish experience at their bakery counter. Left to wait for 10 mins...2 baristas chatting away and neither acknowledged me or tried to get anyone's attention. Finally went in search of someone to check it was open and server replied "why wouldn't it be" in quite a grouchy way and said they'd be there in 5. 8 months pregnant at the time so pretty keen just to get in and out. Bought a brownie and a latte. The brownie was so sweet and chalky I actually threw it away. The coffee was fine. There were also lots of flies landing on all the bakes as I waited as they were uncovered. Try not to leave bad reviews in general but had a few bad experiences at this branch now with rude staff and sub par food and it's not exactly cheap.

Jessica (new worker ) was truly so kind and so accommodating to us. She made sure to we were satisfied with everything. She made it truly a comfortable environment to be in!! She was accommodating for any dietary needs. She truly was lovely with her kind smile.

Waited an age to be seated even though we had booked. Drink ordering was quick and drinks arrived promptly. Food took quite a while to arrive but we were warned there was a delay. Cakes were really nice, top notch. Hot food unfortunately wasn't. Breakfast barm with cold burnt bacon, overcooked egg. Not particularly good, but edible. Would return for cakes not hot food.

Food is ok, seemingly good quality ingredients cooked to within an inch of there life, potatoes on the breakfast were undercooked and the herby tomatoes were watery, way too much greenery as a way to make up for the lack of the other food on the plate, drinks are nice but overpriced, the place is incredibly loud too it’s hard to understand how as it’s only people chatting but it’s almost deafening, I’ve been before and the food has been good but I’ll give it a miss for a while but will still be returning for the bakery which is good but bread goes out of stock too easily They add service charge too which in all honesty is a SCAM!!

Amazing café! The best ever been to, the vibe is insane, I absolutely love the decor, just white with lots of plants and of course the photography exhibition. The food was even better, I had the vanilla brioche with passion fruit & greek yogurt and I just couldn't express how much I enjoyed it!!! Would definitely make the 3 hour trip to Birmingham just for this cafe!!

Authentic matcha latte (not the industrialised kind) and a good grilled cheese! The bacon and maple waffle is a must try as well. Super location with amazing sky light and efficient staff.

Nos sentamos en la sala de espera antes de ser mostrados a una mesa (a pesar de que hay un montón de mesas libres). Cuando estuvimos en nuestra mesa nos tomó siglos para que cualquiera viniera y tomara nuestra orden (a pesar de que un montón de personal se puso a charlar entre sí y también con otros empleados que estaban en su descanso) . Luego esperamos siglos a que llegara nuestra orden. Notamos un montón de moscas pululando por la habitación a pesar de que era finales de octubre. Uno de los miembros de nuestro grupo nos preguntó si nuestras bebidas habían sido iniciadas a lo que nos dijeron que "no". Como no teníamos mucho tiempo de sobra, decidimos irnos ya que estaba tomando mucho más tiempo de lo previsto. Cuando nos fuimos, ofrecí al personal una sonrisa amistosa solo para que uno de ellos declarara en voz alta "¡No puedes esperar una copa en 2 minutos cuando está ocupado!". No estaba ocupado. Apenas estaba un tercio lleno. Respondí que eran más o menos 15 minutos y que no incluía también cuánto tiempo teníamos que esperar para estar sentados y que nos tomaran la orden. El funcionario entonces agarró el recibo para mostrarme que en realidad eran 8 minutos (que creo que fue más largo pero no puedo probar ya que no miré). No sentimos que estuviéramos siendo irrazonables y ciertamente no fuimos groseros, pero sentimos que nos trataron mal. Alguien simplemente diciendo "estaré contigo enseguida" o ellos diciendo "estamos un poco ocupados para que el servicio sea un poco más largo" en el camino de entrada, habría recorrido un largo camino. Estar avergonzado por los miembros del personal cuando nos fuimos no fue lo suficientemente bueno. Al menos me alegra que el miembro del personal me eligiera para ventilar su ira en lugar del resto de mi familia. Fue una pena ya que la comida se veía bien y ya estábamos planeando un regreso para probar la comida. Sin embargo, ahora no regresaremos. Terminamos yendo a Pret A Manger justo al final de la carretera y nos trataron mucho más amablemente.

Medicine ....after my experience should be called frustration... the hall is beautiful bit cold and food was ok ...but what was bad is the cold face moody looking staff. I can spend anywhere but if you look like I disturbing you then I go else where spend my hard earned money.

We had to get some breakfast in a rush and the staff were very accommodating when we said we told them this. The hardest part was choosing what to have, because everything looked excellent. We got coffee to go and the bill while we munched away on our pastries and were out and happy with time to spare. Our only regret is not having more time to try more pastries. We'll definitely be back.

Make sure to book! Otherwise you’ll have to wait long for a table to open up My friends and I loved the food here and the interior is really trendy - best part was the definitely the chocolate pistachio croissant tart I brought back with me (last one so it’s very popular!)

Tuvimos que conseguir algo de desayuno en un apuro y el personal era muy servicial cuando dijimos que les dijimos esto. Lo más difícil fue elegir qué tener, porque todo se veía excelente. Nos dieron café para llevar y la cuenta mientras comíamos nuestros pasteles y estábamos fuera y contentos con el tiempo de sobra. Lo único que lamentamos es no tener más tiempo para probar más pasteles. Definitivamente volveremos.

BEWARE when you ask for the bill they just bring the payment machine, when I asked for a copy for my records, after paying the bill, I noticed that there had been a discretionary service charge added to the bill. As you are not given a copy of your bill you're unaware and therefore it is NOT a discretionary payment at all. Is this legal? ASK FOR A COPY OF YOUR BILL before paying. Service is slow so if you're in a rush don't bother Pastres are lovely

Situado dentro del Buzón, junto a Harvey Nichols. Bonita gama de pasteles, tartas, etc. La zona de estar es cómoda aunque un poco fría. El servicio estaba bien; no es bueno cuando el servidor también está hablando a través de un dispositivo walkitalkie! ¡No es un fanático del café en una taza de papel!

So many choices! I wanted to try everything on the bakery menu, and the coffee was great. The brunch menu, however, was just alright—pretty simple and common, nothing extraordinary. My first impression was mixed. What really stood out was the need for better customer and table management. I’ve never seen such inefficient table allocation. Despite several empty two-person tables, they directed us to a long table meant for eight people, which we had to share with others. Most concerning, though, was the feeling that the staff were not very welcoming toward Asian customers. It’s an impression that left me uncomfortable and disappointed. Finally, they also charged service fee. I realised after I paid it. HAHA.

We were excited to try, we got a dessert & some coffees as takeaway and wait by the coffee station as the female server suggested incase we didn’t find seating, after ordering there was plenty of seats so we sat down and I went to wait for our coffees. Male staff member asked why I was waiting there and to go sit down I said I was waiting for our takeaway coffees and he’s like it’s brought to your table, I explained what she told me and he just dismissed me like no it’s brought to your table. Then we sat down and he later came with a machine to pay and order and I said we already ordered as I told you before. And he just had the worst attitude and vibe ruined our experience. What a shame. Should be kinder to your customers I was nothing but nice to him and kindly explained why I was waiting there, said sorry to bother you and he rolled his eyes. Iced Coffee was nice, dessert was ok

Very good place for breakfast! Adequate prices to be in the heart of the city center. The food is very rich and tasty. The place is large although crowded and quite noisy.

Buenos dulces y café. Local muy original. Atención mejorable, sobre todo poco comprensible con aquellos quienes nuestro inglés es muy básico.

Visited this gem a few weeks ago when arranging a catch up as I used to come here quite often to grab one of their amazing cakes. Was lovely coming back and this time I had a dining in meal instead which was amazing. The staff were friendly and considering the place was packed the food arrived in great time. Recommend booking a table as we got seated promptly whereas there was a large group of people without a booking waiting at the door.

We tried Chicken French Toast, sounds a bit odd but what a sweet and spicy combination. Loved it, the staff is very polite too and even though we did not book a table and it was packed completely but we got a table in 15 mins 🫶

Was just a short Stop, but what WE SAW was friendly service with a smile and understanding that we bavarians (south of germany) are Not perfectly speaking english. Thank you.

Foods great. Often staff come off as too cool for school and wait times are horrendous. Popped in to pick up earlier. Stood at the top of the stairs for 5 mins whilst staff threw glances but didn't serve or acknowledge. When finally someone came out they said there is another wait for a drink so I walked out. Third time this has happened so despite food being good I'll happily skip for takeaway in future.

Lovely settings and friendly staff. Was not too keen on the dish I chose. There wasn’t much flavour and the greens were a little too soggy.

Ordered The Medicine, it was a good portion. The chorizo patty had a nice flavour, and all the components came together very well. The bacon and patty were a tad salty. However, the rest lacked salt, so it balanced out. Hashbrown was crispy, and sourdough bread was lovely. Found the tomatoes a bit pointless, with a lack of flavour. It was busy and the atmosphere was nice. Did take some time on service here and there, but nothing too bad. Overall, it was good and I would recommend it.

The food is really nice, can be quite busy during weekends, but the queue is alright. The place is quite big, was a nice experience.
