The Church House, JD Wetherspoon in Rotherham

Wath Upon Dearne is a short-ish drive from home and we thought we'd give breakfast a go at The Church House. Reasonably pleased we did, it was very nice indeed. Early indications are good. It's a lovely building and has been looked after exceptionally well. Neat and tidy, standards haven't slipped and the customer service matched up perfectly. The breakfast ordered was Wetherspoons Traditional. The general quality varies wildly from pub to pub within the chain. but this one was right up there. All cooked evenly and nicely, the beans were even hot and skin free, the true 'Spoons litmus test. Left the pub with no complaints, really enjoyed the visit. Excellent.

You can always rely on a good service and a good night out. Bev the manager is excellent. Staff are good too. After covid the pub reopened abd the way it was run was excellent

So disappointed - day 3 of the Spring Ale Festival and not a guest ale to be had - just the usual suspects plus the Purple Moose guest which is not a festival ale. Got to ask why they spent all that time advertising the event unless the regulars have drunk the house dry in 2 days?

First time back in nearly 3 years for curry and quiz , curry was diabolical just fat lumps , manager didn't really care , apart from she was only refunding the curry money and not the drink?? Not very customer friendly and won't be getting my custom again which is a shame cos I brought five more people and really enjoyed the quiz ?! Shame🙄 , it's proper gone down hill , I really thought wether spoons cared about their customers, obviously not 🚫 just the ching of their tills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dogs aren't even allowed on the frontage, so I wasn't allowed to get a drink and sit outside. Not be going there till they change their dog policy.

A good family eating place... Weather spoons

One of my favourite spoons in South Yorkshire. Beautiful building from the outside and the inside didn't disappoint me. I enjoyed a very good breakfast, and asked for a popular ale, which was excellent (see photos).

We have dined there regularly (once a week ) for several years now - always fine service and good value. Since Christmas though there seems to have been a negative change in staff and/or customer service attitudes and we won't be going back.

I accidentally moved my arm in the bar and smashed a wine glass. They refused to serve me and all of my work colleagues. I understand drunk and disordley behaviour but we were laughing about it and the woman (young, plump, bad make up) decided to just ban us. Power trip. Please train your staff. You missed out on hundreds of pounds of revenue. Ps I'm not that drunk!

Met up with friends for an early drink good place with good staff

Prices are still fairly cheap compared to some places.

Food was good. Prompt and polite service by staff. All round good experience.

The most weatherspoons place in the world, think of a typical weatherspoons, and there you have the church house! The food was surprisingly good to be fair, I had a full English breakfast and it held up well! The mushrooms were especially amazing, Would definitely recommend for a nice breakfast or a pub to hit on a pub crawl

First ever visit in the morning for breakfast. Went to bar and all was well. I paid for my meals and had to go back 7 minutes later before I could be served 2 pints.! Sadly that's where good service ended. Waited 25 minutes for 2 breakfasts. Hardly anyone in pub so it wasn't a ' we're busy excuse ' . I had to ask a member of staff and it was another 5 minutes before it arrived ( 30 minutes in total ) . Really hot plate but slightly warm food. It was clear that the kitchen staff wasn't paying any attention to meals being taken out nor was the bar staff. There was no apology or anything. 🤨

This is by far the worst weatherspoons I've eaten in. My pizza was burnt and the halumi fries were cold. Staff couldn't have cared less. Would not eat here again.

Ideally located, centre of the village - always clean and tidy and always well staffed. Not the long wait for table service like some 'Spoons and competitive prices for drinks and food.

Our 1st breakfast was great, the next day we ordered breakfast but the beans were off and had gone very vinegary staff replaced mine but my wife was put off by then and I never finished mine (unheard of), we never went for the rest of our hols and ended up in a well known supermarket, shame as we preferred Wetherspoons.

It's a witherspoon you get what you expect cheap beer good service etc. My only concern was the disabled toilet was filthy and stank of pee.

The server cleaning tables took a cloth out of his apron...glided it over the table with no spray cleanser at all....just distributing germs etc..

Sorry dominoes next time I have a pizza craving I’ll be coming here! Great pizza tasty wings and a pint as well. Plus good value as well.

It's getting tired and in need of a refurb. Friendly enough place and recommended for the prices.

Food was poor, no interaction from staff, couldn't even get a smile or Hi, A pint was knocked over but wouldn't replace it as it wasn't a kids drink, tried batting flies off while eating and atmosphere wasn't inviting. Safe to say we won't be visiting again

Friendly and helpful staff and service is very good. Food is really good. I go there quite often with my daughter, my granddaughter and friend

Staff are very polite and helpful, cannot fault it.

Called in for breakfast. Nothing to write home about as my toast was just hot bread. I know electricity is expensive but the the toaster needed another minutes or so. Friendly server, we ordered on the app. Cheap and cheerful if that's what you're after.

It's a typical Wetherspoons but this one is in need of redecoration.

Food was good well priced. Service was good. We had the large breakfast we enjoyed it . Will probably go again.

I'm sure it warrants more than one star but as I was in a car and didn't know the area I couldn't find anywhere to park to try it out and kept driving round and round. Not the best place for a Spoons. Walk to only...

Came in with my friends needing some good food and drink with us being at 50k on a 100k bike ride. We was served fresh food with quick great service with a smile, thank you!

Refurb needed. Stuff not always on menu not this restaurant fault all weatherspoons same. Bring back the hot sauce in a bottle please

This place hasn't change in the last 20+ years! Well overdue for a refurb! Real ales are a no go.....unless ya want to be up all night 🤢💩

Poor food ordered the mix grill was presented the steak lamb and pork all measured 1 inch by 3 inch 2 cm thick not filling or worth the money also the rump steak one side was just fat so was literally one mouth full of steak that was edible and that mostly was fat will not be visiting again

Typical Wetherspoons food. Acceptable but nothing special. Sticky table and menus. Staff behind bar were friendly. Didn’t appreciate having to walk through the cigarette smoke (smokers standing at the outer door) as we left.

If your going to The church house make sure you've got your woolies on ! it's freezing cold as they've got air-conditioning blasting out ????Had half a larger given in a wine glass !!!! Not good.

Went last night after performing at a show at Montgomery hall. We had arranged a separate section for us to have some food. There was 70 of us and all paid £5 per head. We all bought a drink and some more than 1. The staff were rude and unwelcoming. They didn’t make us aware that it was last orders and we went to the bar to buy a drink we were treat like second class citizens. I had wine and there were no wine glasses. When it came to the staff wanting to close I felt threatened and that they were going to take my drink out of my hand. Never going again

Very disappointed with the attached of the bar staff after eating 5 meals And drinking the table was full there was no room on our table so we moved the crockery And Emtey classes to the side of the bar And was told we were out of order And told we have to leave.

Service was shocking, barmaid was foul. Food was shocking with dirty cutlery and stale, dried out sauces. Toilest were only fit for the flys they contained.

I come here every week and actually feel awful writing this review as staff are lovely and it’s my local. But I am hoping the senior management will take some notice and I challenge them to come and use the toilets at the weekend, then report that they think this is acceptable. Don’t get me wrong the toilet have needed a refurb for years and years and there has always been an issue with water pressure, hardly any in toilet and get soaked if turn a tap on. There is usually only one or two loos in a fit state to use (for years) due to lack of ability to flush contents. But today all 5 toilets full of excrement, to the point I actually feel sick. Come on owners of this pub, sort out the plumbing, you are letting down the name of Wetherspoons, your customers and your staff. It’s not rocket science, it’s a basic in a good establishment

Nice cheap food. Cooked the steak wrong. BUT cooked it again perfectly. Okay, yes as a family we were put out but for the price and us all being human and accidents happen....it was fine. Keep it up. Thank you for having us 😊

Fast service food was nice friendly staff

Bad management actually told my son to come into work when he tested positive for covid only to sack him. Which came as a complete suprise to say at the review he was told if he came in the next two week's he would be fine. Horrendous management

Was about to order food for myself, niece and autistic child but told that we can't as we had our puppy on a lead sat quietly with us outside in the large seating area despite there being nobody else in the outdoor area. I am in the centre lots and have seen dogs on the premises before including my friends dog.

Its a wetherspoons but probably best pub in wath centre. Staff are sound

Well where do I start. If you order 10 chicken bites and chips I hope your not expecting 10 because you’ll be disappointed :D Then they tell you even though the “new” menu states 10 it’s 7 now because they’re bigger ‘apparently’. Now granted we didn’t have a ruler but after many years of eating there and visiting another the size isn’t any different. Also I mean when you try to rectify the problem if you want shouting and screaming at then this is the place to be… customer service is below a zero well done weatherspoons well done. If the drinks weren’t as cheap and you had this customer service the business wouldn’t exist that’s for sure. I mean come on who can get banned from weatherspoons clearly someone who can count to 10.

Always love coming here, and tonight especially they went above an beyond with making room for our team of 13. Couldn't say a bad word against them.

Great little pub, visited for over 30 years, only problem is food sometimes it good most times its abad.

Disabled toilet was dirty the pub itself was cold so you sat in your coats. No atmosphere but drinks were cheap but not cheap enough to make us go back again

It was loud and rowdy in the family part of the pub swearing 🤬 a plenty ended up leaving food because was too noisy and woke up sleeping baby and was too loud for her I could understand if it was Friday night but it was Tuesday at 230!

Not the usual luxurious toilets that we've all become accustomed to with Weatherspoons. Taps blast put water so youre soaked but its only cold. There's dirtys stains in the toilet pan and not just that someone's used it these are marked that need a brush n scrub. Pub full and service good but decor could be refreshed. Not bad but not fabulous

Place is great. It's always quiet when we go so can't speak for busier periods. Bit the staff are friendly and leav you to your own devices, they check to make sure you're enjoying yourselves etc. Nice little local pub.

Very disappointed at our breakfast asked for well done bacon it looked like ham ,well done egg it was runny and had no white with it, and everything was practically cold ,they offered to get me more bacon ,it came 10 min after I'd eaten up ,and was so cremated I couldn't eat it .

Good real ale choice. British beef Lasagne with chips Excellent value. Highly recommended
