We were craving fish and chips, so we went to Chippy by Spencer. Fish was too good

Visited for my first smoked sausage supper and it did not disappoint!! In town from Australia and the gentleman who served me was so lovely and made my experience even better by giving me loads of brown sauce. Thank you so much!!!! I'll be back on my next visit.

I’m not the one to leave a review but I have to at this place. I ordered fish and chips and by far the best one I’ve tried. Batter’s light and crispy the fish is nice and fresh same with the chips. Everything was great! Definitely will be back before I leave Edinburgh.

Went for a fish and chips and this place didn’t disappoint. So much better than my locally chippy in London. The customer service is extremely friendly and the fish melted in my mouth. This is a must-go to place in Edinburgh.

We were greeted by a very friendly man when we walked in and our order was taken and ready within 6 min. The place was spotless, the staff very friendly and the fish and chips were so fresh and good. Sad we tried this out last day here otherwise there would have been a second trip.

This should be a 5. Everything is fresh. The menu is very broad and inventive. Its a little gem. I'm so happy I found it. Its easy to miss it. Awesome.

I have had fish and chips in Canada that were outstanding. These were very greasy. I would not rate these as good fish and chips personally.

Order arrived quickly. Fish and chips were decent but fish wasn't as crispy a batter as expected from your usual fish and chips takeaway. Miniscule amount of tartare sauce I would have expected a bit more. Did come with a good amount of salt and vinegar packs though. Curry sauce was okay but the gravy was really runny and quite tasteless.

Had the Battered Haddock, Chips, Homemade Tartare Sauce and other half tried the Haggis spring rolls and curry sauce! Absolutely everything was banging! So tasty, properly freshly cooked and really good value! Highly recommend!

My first meal in Edinburgh and I couldn't be more pleased! Absolutely lovely service from the young man at the till, and from the rest of the team as well. I had the Battered Haddock supper with curry sauce and it was absolutely delicious! Will definitely be recommended to any friends travelling to Edinburgh!!

Exceptionally nice crew; they seem to have known exactly that a stupid tourist was ordering while having no clue. They called me to fix the order. The delivery was on time, nice dude delivering. I had vegan fish & chips and it was delightful. First time trying it and I'm happy I did.

The staff were very kind and understanding, The food was amazing. Im vegan so i had the vegan burger- it was amazing and i could hardly tell it was vegan. And if you're a vegan you know some chips can be subpar! these however were delightful. crispy soft and yummy. Thank you so much for this experience 💗

Visited here and had a sausage supper, and I have to say it was one of the best chippie dinners we have ever had. Everything was freshly made for us, and the chips were perfectly crispy but soft inside and the batter on the sausages was perfect. We didn’t get the gentleman’s name who served us but he was lovely and was patient with me going back and ordering a drink and then going back and asking for more salt. 10/10 would recommend this place. We will be going back!

If you are visiting Edinburgh do not miss this place. The Chippy is a small, familly owned place, that offers quality food and services. The serving is fast and the food is delicious. The fish was great with a delicious crispy batter. Spencer's interpretation of the Haggis was also delicios, the best we had. Also tried the pizza and it was great. Spencer was very friendly and helpful. We definitely recommend this place.

Spencer himself patiently took our order and prepared pretty much the best fish supper I have had in 60 years in Scotland. The tartare sauce! Cannot recommend this place enough. Keep doing what you do.

Online ordered the haddock and chips! Great tasting food, stayed warm and crispy despite a 15min walk in the rain back to my motel. Highly recommend. Would come back when visiting Edinburgh. Friendly service as well!

I've long tried to find fish and chips in Scotland that reminds me of what I used to get back in Yorkshire. The fish here is fresh and chunky and the batter is crispy and almost melts when you're eating it. It's some of the best I've had.

tldr: The fish and chips there is amazing, you’ve got to try this with different sides! So I actually found this shop from Deliveroo when I was trying to order my dinner. Realizing that the shop is actually not that far away, I walked to the shop and order my food. The staff there is very nice and the food was made-to-order. It was still hot when I brought that back to my hostel. I enjoyed that very much and this will definitely become one of my favorite restaurants in Edinburgh. I wish I could give it 6 stars. Highly recommend!

Went to The Chippy for the first time this evening- ordered a fish supper, single fish and a pizza. The service was friendly and efficient. The pizza was of a good standard and the fish supper really was excellent- ‘The Chippy’ is very well deserving of it’s high google reviews. We will definitely be back!

Popped in for the first time. Was looking for something quick and the guy told me everything was cooked fresh. Decided to wait and it was worth the wait. Haggis and chips cooked fresh in less than 10 minutes. It was fantastic and will be back.

24th of September, I was in Edinburgh as a tourist. I visited this restaurant after a lot of research online, and it didn't disappoint. Ordering was fast and simple, food ready in 5-10 minutes after perfect frying on the spot. The owners/employees were extremely polite and professional. Fish crispy and juicy, potatoes creamy. I would recommend not skipping vinegard, as I did. It is crucial to properly balance flavour and texture. Never had such an amazing experience with this specific dish. Prices are extremely low and I imagine the restaurant works really hard to keep prices affordable. Service was just as much as needed, and if you want you can eat inside at the small table available. Normally you shouldn't eat in at takeaways, so be reasonable if you find some crumbles on the table. If I ever return to Edinburgh it will be my first go to restaurant. Thank you!!!

It’s my first time to try fish and chips in the UK. The portion is huge and the taste is great. And the staff is so nice!!!

My first time experience of The Chippy and I was not disappointed. Crispy battered fish and chips cooked to perfection - ordered online, collected and the meal was still fresh on arrival at the kitchen table. Will try other menu items soon ! This experience has certainly raised the bar as regards fish & chips standards.

Fabulous haddock and chips and a fish fillet sarnie on doorstop bread all served with a pot of tartare sauce - lovely!

Sausage were really greasy avoid! And chips are hit and miss mine we're ok (hot but tasted like old oil) but my friends were old and cold, the staff looked grumpy no smiles at all and no customer service, my friend complained and he just said ok , and walked away

Friendly and efficient service. Our Fish and Chips was cooked to order and didn't take long. The batter was very tasty and from my point of view the best bit was that there was no skin on the fish. Would highly recommend a visit.

Heard lots of good things and tried for the first time. Overall very good. I had the vegan option. The chips are best I've tasted. Unfortunately the deep fried aubergine is an acquired taste and was not for me. Spencer and the team were great. As a vegetarian fish alternative I hope they will consider having the deep-fried tofu wrapped in seaweed being offered by some other chippies in Edinburgh. This will then definitely be my spot. Thank you Spencer. UPDATE: Just noticed another reviewer had a similar response to the aubergine but they tried the veggie haggis which worked for them. Will try next time.

I thought I'd had at least OK fish and chips in my life, then The Chippy completely opened my eyes to what excellent fish and chips could and should be. The battered haddock is one of the best things I've ever eaten. I also tried the Stornoway black pudding. It was very heavy but also delightful with the chutney. I didn't enjoy the chips at all, but I think I'm just not a fan of all UK style chips. Service was excellent. The gentleman at the register was patient in explaining a few options while ordering and also the options when the food was ready, like salt and vinegar, brown sauce, etc. Wish I could have a place half as good at home.

Ordered the Battered Haddock, Breaded Haddock, Haggis Springrolls, Mushy Peas and Chips. The breaded haddock was a smidge better than the battered - the fish was flakey and succulent, the coating crispy and crunchy. Chips were proper thick cut and fried in beef dripping. The tartar sauce that came with was zesty, the peas creamy. Well done! The highlight of the meal however, were the haggis spring rolls - a combination that sounds weird, but is absolutely awesome. Plus, Spencer is a grade A bloke. Note however, that this is mainly a takeaway place - which we (as tourists) didn't know before, so we climbed into the only booth in the house by the counter. That's on us, though. So yeah - 5 stars, would gorge ourselves again! :D

This chippy was recommended to me by a local. As a Canadian tourist I was very impressed with the food, and the value for the money was very good. Helpful and friendly staff. I ordered the Black Pudding. It was excellent. I highly recommend.

Fried seafood at its finest. Delicious, cook to perfection fish and seafood. No alcohol can be consumed on property, which is OK because they only have 1 table with 1 bench seat, so we didn't want to linger, ate our hot fish & chips and split. Seriously, give this place a try, they are doing honestly delicious fried seafood.

A random Google after finding myself staying overnight in the area. As other reviewers have said, absolute perfection! And the personal service from the two gentlemen just added to the care and attention put into the whole meal. I had a "Fish Supper" (fish and chips) with real mushy peas (from dried) and a delicious curry sauce and the fish was garnished with a piece of lemon and a really tasty home made Tartare sauce. And a treat to be able to buy a can of Stella to enjoy back in my hotel room together with a kindly provided recyclable fork and all wrapped in a most useful bag to carry out. What more could I ask for? Thank you

Sadly high expectations from my first visit were not met this time around I ordered maybe the simplest item on the menu a chip roll, the chips were as hard as Mike Tysons left hook really wasn't what I was expecting. Probably the best fish n chips I've eaten... I ordered the fish supper which is the battered haddock and chips served with tartar sauce and a wedge of lemon... I also ordered a pot of curry sauce and an Irn Bru and was reasonably priced at £13. Other things on the menu include burgers, pizza and kebabs. The tartar sauce is made in house and includes a tangy special ingredient which accompanied the fish perfectly... The haddock was beautifully battered in a light, golden crispy batter ensuring a satisfying crunch with every bite. Very limited space to eat inside the shop but you can perch on the window ledge. Steep steps to access the shop so not ideal for wheelchair access but you can order ahead directly with the restaurant or through many food delivery apps. I would highly recommend this fish and chip shop, especially if you're looking for a memorable, authentic meal while in Scotland.

We wanted to try this for lunch but they open late in the afternoon. Walking by after lunch but couldn't resist a tasting. Ordered just the battered haddock. The owner explained the beef dripping adds to the flavor immensely. Ate it on the spot while it is hot. Washed it down with an Irn Bru. What a treat.

Clean chippy. No queues. Great price. Fish was cooked to order and nice and hot. However, chips had been cooked earlier and were very dry despite lashings of salt and sauce.
