Heard it was good here, and yes the spuds and fish were. And well priced. I did ask to sit in however, but was then handed a wrapped bag. I said I wanted to sit down to eat (the place looked clean and tidy), but was told I didn't say that?? Maybe some misunderstanding, but sulkily shaking my bag out onto a plate, I was then subject to hearing me being muttered about whilst I ate. Shame as won't go there again. But have rated the food fairly

Ordered to go.... and it arrived on the counter quickly. Paid and the assistant gave me my change with a handful of small coins. Not a problem, but it was £1.00 short. I still had the amount she gave me in my hand and had not moved, she counted it, now knew it was short and told me to "check my pockets". How's that for customer service! Last time I use The Chippy

I'm going to give this 4 stars this time as we use the chippy a lot,but unfortunately I think they must have been rushed because both of our fish and chips were not great THIS time,I've got to be honest with my reviews normally fantastic but this time batter was very thick and wet in middle cups were not completely cooked. As I say we use them a lot and are fantastic, everyone has a bad day at any job,DO NOT HOLD THIS AGAINST THEM,normally brilliant xxxx

Always fresh, haven't had a bad item off the menu yet. (And I've tried most) I would recommend the town fryer locally for a kebab but you won't find better fish n chips locally. Chips are always cooked to perfection, thought it may have been a 1 off but no matter what time of day I go, they are perfect. It seems like all is cooked to order too.

This is a reasonably priced fish and chip shop. I ordered small chips and the portion was huge, I couldn’t finish it. It’s worth it if you’re famished but it was too much for me to finish. It was fresh and hot. Friendly and quick service. I can’t comment on the fish since I’m a vegetarian but good chips.

I don't normally write reviews. But I rely on reviews so here's mine. Ordered pie and chips with a pineapple fritter. The pie wasn't cooked in the microwave long enough so the dough was a bit chewy. The chips were very much chips. Tiny chippings pieces not actual chunky ones. Very greasy. The pineapple fritter I ordered- was charged for two and received two. I quite like pineapple fritters so I didn't correct her. They were nice big a juicy.

We were hesitant to use The Chippy as a lot of reviews were not good. We took a chance and ordered over the phone for collection in 10 minutes. When we arrived they were just finishing cooking it. It was hot and delicious. The chips could have been a little crisper but that is only our choice. Overall we had a very good experience and would definitely use them again.

It was very cold outside so we headed for some good fish & chips and some hot coffee to try and get warmed up, Whilst the fish & chips were OK, the coffee was poor, just boil the kettle and poor a cup of instant powdered coffee which tasted yucky, very sad when so many coffee makers and selections are available to the trade, but what compounded the situation was that the building was like sitting a refrigerator. I don't know if the building had a heating problem, but I saw no radiators in the restaurant seating area, but an electric heater in the counter area. Even the two servers were wrapped up in fleece jackets behind the counter it was so cold. I'll be back sometime, but in hot sunny weather and drink coke, I won't ask for coffee.

My favourite go to for a chippy locally if not having a kebab. My wife always has fish from here and it is always good quality and a good portion size. Chips are proper "chippy" chips, especially if you wait for the ones that have been out of the frier a few minutes rather than the fresh ones. Mmmmm, can just taste them now :)

On 22nd November 2017, I did the eight mile walk from Bedford to Sandy via Willington and the route of the old university railway line. On arriving in Sandy, I went to the Chippy on the Market Square, right in the centre of the town and only a few paces from the bus stop where the buses leave for Bedford. In fact, you can see the bus stop and the buses from the shop window. My first impressions were positive, as there was a large sign in the window telling us when the shop was going to be open. You would think this would be a standard feature everywhere, but, believe me, it is not. A menu and price list in the window would be even better, but that is a minor detail and it may even detract from the views through the window. My second and third impressions were equally positive, as firstly there was no nasty noise pollution blaring from any radio or other unwanted implement of intrusion. Secondly, there was a clean, bright and attractive seating area where people could sit and eat their food in a pleasant environment, making this a lot more than just a take-away.The staff behind the counter were welcoming and friendly, and I ordered my fish and chips with a cup of tea to eat in. Prices were very reasonable, and certainly no more than you would pay at most take-away chip shops for food you would have to eat outside in the wind and the cold with a cheap wooden fork. Here, the food came on an attractive plate with condiments and proper cutlery, and I was able to eat it at a clean table with a good view of the market square and the town centre. It was a good meal. The large cod was excellent, and the portion of chips was perfectly big enough. The chips were crisp and good to taste, and were well cooked. There are salt and vinegar bottles on every table, allowing you to choose the exact amount to suit your taste, and a free packet of tartare sauce was thrown in to add to the flavour. My only suggestion would be to offer Heinz ketchup and HP brown sauce as alternatives just to make the choice even wider.Anyone coming into this shop as a first ever visit to a chip shop may well be forgiven for thinking that this type of service is common, but sadly it is not. There are a great many chip shops where space does not allow any kind of seating area, meaning that you have to eat food outside no matter what the weather. I even know of one chip shop where people can eat inside at tables, but where the staff still don't supply anything more than a cheap wooden fork to eat with. There are also plenty of chip shops with blaring noise, rude staff, unclean facilities, and/or grossly inflated prices, all of which were thankfully absent from this one. As I said before, this is one of the most impressive chip shops I have visited, and the owners obviously take a lot of care over making it as welcoming and pleasant as possible. It is a shame I don't visit Sandy more often, otherwise this would become a regular eating place of mine.It is also superbly located and easy to get to. The buses to and from Bedford and Biggleswade depart from a stop which you can actually see from the shop window, and there are some other local buses which use that stop as well. If you come to Sandy by train, you'll have a bit of a longer walk, but that is inevitable in a country where integrated transport is still an unknown concept. The town itself is a little sparse on facilities, although there is a public karzy not too far from the market square. It appears to be on its last legs, though, as both of the individual units had a broken flush on the day I visited, making the visit none too pleasant an experience. I can't imagine the attendant finds his work too pleasant either, if indeed there still is an attendant. Find the karzy before you go for food or drink, or it could be embarrassing. If you do the walk in from Bedford, be prepared for there to be quite a distance from your entrance into the town to the actual centre itself. Most of the walk is on combined paths and cycle tracks, so you are not breathing in fumes on a congested main road. The route is also well signposted, so you should still be able to find your way in even if you don't have a detailed map. However you get to Sandy, the Chippy on the Market Square comes highly recommended. If only all chip shops could show this kind of dedication to customer service and a clean, inviting environment. Great job, owners, great job.

The portions are tiny for a large fish and chips and it tasted awful! They were very expensive for the size of the portions too. 3x large cod and chips (medium at best) 4 mushy peas and a can of coke was was £41!!!!!! The chips were anaemic and tasted like it was cooked in dirty oil. Would NEVER use again.
