Henlow Fish Bar in Central Bedfordshire

Quick service on a Friday evening. Two large pieces of cod and a large portion of chips were more than two of us could manage. Very good.

1st time I've been here, good quality good sized portions. Well worth a second visit.

Went to this place just after opening at about 5.15pm. Got the food home withinn three minutes, horrible chips, luke warm and dry, horrible battered sausage as well. I strongle suspect these had been reheated from lunchtime, they certainly hadn't been freshly cooked. I cannot recommend this fish shop nor will I ever return.

Ordered online and paid for the order then 15 minutes had a call to say some of the items weren’t available. Wasn’t a problem and we said just refund it and we will go somewhere else. The guy got arsey with me because he didn’t have the food we’d ordered. Very odd indeed. Go to Sheffs in Biggleswade. Much better food and better service.

Called here for the first time today. Very impressed...nice and clean. Excellent fishcake and chips. Nice friendly owner. We live in Luton and often go to the garden centre nearby. Won't be eating at the garden centre again now we have found this place. Would rather sit in the car and eat the food

Lovely fish and chips. Really liked the calamari. Owner is lovely. Recently redecorated and it looks amazing, very clean.

Recently refurbished. Looks amazing. New owner and the food is amazing. The curry sauce is the best I’ve ever had!! Very kind service. Will be coming back very soon!!

Absolutely awful experience from the moment I walked in the door. The young lady behind the counter was completely clueless and extremely rude. Took me 20 mins even though was only one person in front of me to get two sausages in batter , because the lady serving thought she would wait for the cod to be cooked (by separate cook in back) before serving anyone else. The food was absolutely awful and well overpriced. Would not return here again if someone paid me …. 0 stars

1st time, we visited with our scout troop while on camp nearby and we were welcomed and treated like long time regulars. Food was great, service excellent and all the staff were great. Will definitely be back.

Great chips but prices have gone up - which I suppose is in line with inflation.

I have concerns about this fish and chip shop actually being able to cook chips! They were a sloppy mess and pale and uncooked. The fish was cooked to the opposite degree and was absolutely cremated. After getting through the horrible crusted batter (it appeared to have been cooked more than once in my opinion) the smell of “off” fish was nauseating. In the bin. What a waste of £25.

Called in for a pasty and chips, to be told, 'nah, we don't do pasties'. The food in the warmer looked overcooked and the fat smelt old. I decided to leave and drive two minutes up the road to Langford where they don't sell pasties either, but they do deliver freshly cooked, piping hot food with good service and a smile.

Rude staff, was totally ignored and unable to place an order let alone review the food! Voted with my feet and walked out fed up waiting to be acknowledged. Much friendlier and cheaper fish and chips around the corner in Shefford

Ordered on Saturday night right after opening. Fish was perfect, the batter was amazing and the chips tasted amazing. Only downside is its slightly more expensive to competitors in the area.

Ordered fish and chips and extras from here and was cooked to perfection. Fish was tender and batter bubbly but crispy. Excellent portion sizes will definitely order again.

Not great on early visits. Much improved, chips good but portions too generous for me. Some customers have trouble with "arrogant" boss. Get to know him and enjoy his food.

Visited Henlow fish bar while in Henlow. Best fish and chips I’ve had in England (probably even beats the Scottish chippy’s but let’s not get into that here!) The owner Sunny was lovely, had a chat while I waited for my lunch to fry. The batter was perfectly crispy and soft underneath, the cod was fresh and the chips were fluffy inside. Defo a 10 out of 10

Consistently the best fish in the county! We pre-ordered our fish & chips yesterday evening. Arrived at agreed time and they were ready to go. Staff are friendly, professional and enjoy a good banter. Top tip... if they give you too many chips, which is often the way, they will freeze and re-heat perfectly. Highly recommended as the best place for fish & chips in Beds/Herts :-)

I live away from the area but like to call here when visiting relatives nearby. Usually having haddock and chips. Ordered two haddock and one small chips & mushy peas yesterday and that was ample fir us two. In fact it could have fed three people. Fish & chips cooked fresh while I waited (which is never a problem if it’s hot and fresh) Definitely recommend this chippie

Perfect evening of fish and chips and cricket! We were the visiting team at Clifton and myself and my daughter wanted dinner whilst watching my husband play. A local recommended Henlow Fish Bar and we were not disappointed. Excellent freshly made fish and chips, huge portion and excellent service. A shame we don't live closer!

Really lovely fish and chips. The batter actually tasted nice and flavoursome too- compared to some other local fish and chips shops, which are more greasy and tasteless. Good chips too. Can recommend 👍

Best chips in the area. FACT! They offer delivery on Just eat but it's a 20 quid minimum order. Need to have a big appetite to order 20 quids worth of food! We usually go in store to order. Good is stunning. Never had a bad meal from here. Top marks!!

Had 3 haddock and a piece of chicken and 2 large chips, ok had to wait for the chicken which is normal but well worth the wait and the portions were huge. The owner was Fantastic and friendly and Covid rules applied or you don’t come in, I think the last reviewer must have made that up, can not think of better anywhere, 1st class and going back weekly from now on

I attended her for an order, only to be pipped to the post by a trade gentle man... wearing no mask walking up and down contaminating air. The owner must have know him as he said no worries mate about wearing a mask!!!!! He also never paid which is why I think the owner knew him. The owner shouts out don't worry about putting my life at risk like its a joke - HELLO what about the rest of us, I am high risk. I waited outside there was no way I wanted to be anywhere near that!!! No guidance on queing, people are in and out in a very small space not guidance on floor people rubbing shoulders. The rules are MASK & SPACE - they obviously don't adhere to much of these rules. SHOCKING! I will add they do have a Perspex cover near the till!!!! but really need to read up on covid guidelines and suggestions for safety for all

Best chips i have had from a chip shop around here but while in the shop heard a customer being told how crisp the fish is unfortunately mine was soggy. My spring roll was not edible and for the amount I paid I was surprised

Thought I’d give this place another go. But wow. The owner. So terrible- incredibly rude and utterly miserable. Makes you feel awful the moment you step inside. His poor staff! No one should be supporting this guy. I know it’s the only fish and chip shop in the immediate area, but come on- it’s worth driving a little further just to not see this guy. The food is also overpriced and mediocre at best. AVOID!!!

Sadly really gone downhill. They seem to have changed suppliers and everything we ordered ways awful. The sausages had gristle and bone bits, disgusting and the haddock was greasy and about 2cm thick. The only thing that was nice was the savaloy. Now drive to Biggleswade...Sheffs Fish and chips are amazing, great choice and great value!!!

Awful chips,awful pies,awful in general.Greed is the motivation,cheap supply sold at high prices,overpriced drinks,overpriced condiments.Rubbish opening times if open at all.Treats the staff like dirt (usually young girls) and is generally hated by the whole village,way to go.

Went there tonight: queued (in line with social distancing), ordered (in line with social distancing), paid contactless (in line with social distancing) and went home with the usual high standard fish & chips. We pop in here a couple of times a month and have never had a bad dinner. We always chat to the owner and are polite to the staff working there, so our experience has always been good. The fish is always fresh and the chip portions very generous.

Was driving through my old haunt of clifton and decided to visit the Henlow fish bar. I can report that place is even worst from my last review. Still the same arrogant rude owner and fish and chips that are still low quality. The Pukka pies are still preheated and taste like rubber. I wonder if the owner reads these posts or doesnt really care.It makes me wonder how he manages to still survive as a business. Its a real shame that the good people of Henlow and surrounding area have not been given a proper fish and chip shop they deserve. Also take note, I am very wary of four star plus reviews of this establishment as I have never met anyone who has a good word to say about the place and fee forced to go there as there is no where else.

Was very nice chips bit pricey though especially for where it is, a small town chippy would sell loads more if looked after locals, everyone knows how much potatoes are

Gone massively down hill lately, half the stuff they didn't have and the guy working there wasn't nice to the female staff working there. Won't be going back.
