The Chestnut Tree in Wolverhampton

My experience was poor, I ordered food for my 2 children, the one meal came out on a sizzling plate for a 9 year old. At this point I pointed out this should not of happened to my partner as I was not at the table at the time, I called the server over called lidia, I only found out her name from another employee here as she refused to give her first name, when she came over to the table I expressed my concern that a child of this age should not have a sizzling hot skillet plate, lidias response at this was you never asked me too, me and my partner at this point found it really rude, after a discussion I went to the bar to express my feelings about this, the bar man listened and I asked for a pen and her name he told me and gave me a pen, I asked lidia how to spell her name, her response was I’m not untitled to give my name I found this very rude, I then asked for the manager and Lidia said she was the manager, so at this point I was appalled at how I was treated, I went back to the table told my partner what happened and got the children to leave, my partner then asked who the server was, my partner expressed her concerns over this and we were told that as customers, that we should read the terms and conditions and it’s not up too the staff to express any concerns about a hot plate that could hurt a child, my partner was extremely taken back from what was said, as a customer we are there to be taken care of not to be just a number, anyway the story continues, the children at this point were extremely uncomfortable and I had to take them outside, my partner stayed to express her feelings, the lady Lidia who my partner spoke to said it’s up to a customer to request this, now I’m sorry but we didn’t know and as a business you should have your customers concern at the front of your business and your company name, after my partner was then feeling intimated as another member of staff had the same attitude as the first who was the manager on shift, my partner said I will be taking this further and the staff members said I look forward too it, Now I’m not been funny but if this is how they treat people who just stress a concern, then I think some back house training is needed, I have reported this to Mitchell’s and butlers, as I’m discussed how staff can just put customers feedback or feelings to one side, I will be making another report on this when they get back to me as this is a disgrace to the company name. I’ve had to edit this post as 15 minutes after posting this I had a phone call from the pub owner jack, and I was told on the phone that apparently I was aggressive and was raising my voice and swearing at the bar to get attention about my complaint, this is not the case at all, I was very calm and so was my partner, I felt this phone call was disrespectful and uncalled for, also to be lied to on the phone about my actions that were not true in the slightest, when all I’m doing is telling the truth on a review. If this is standard practice for a company to have this behaviour towards customers that are just voicing there experience then I discourage anyone to leave a review in future as it’s pointless because all you will get is an underhanded phone call filled with lies and not dealt with by true events that actually happened. I will pursue my complaint to head office and I will be editing my post to let the public know what they are going to do too change this behaviour and what they are going to implement to make sure not just myself but any other person is not treated in this manner. this is my updated review, I’m now banned from the chestnut for making a complaint about the staff, as I said earlier in my review I discouraged anyone to do this, the mangers exact words were I wasn’t there so I can’t comment, not been pedantic but where was the investigation in to my complaint? if this was an actual lie from myself I would not be wasting my time or effort to continue with this, I called head office over 5 days ago and I’m still waiting for a phone call! And a valid reason why leaving a review is frowned upon

First visit which I’ve been meaning to do for a while, food was well priced and was served fairly quickly. Kaz was friendly throughout the hour we was there, making sure everything was ok. We Weill certainly be going back for a meal soon, after the very nice steak for breakfast we had on this day.

As a chain pub it offers few real ales from the mass producers, nothing dark on. Recommend the gammon and the fish, both lovely. Only downside we were asked 4 times do we want another drink.

Great pub. Good value food and drink. Staff are always very friendly. £2.20 a pint for cask ales on Thursdays.

This was quiz night and was packed out, however, although we waited a while for a table, as a lot had been reserved, we finally got one . The food was the usual pub grub and the service was good considering the amount of customers they had. Quiz was very good.

A group of us go regularly to have dinner here and I can assure everyone that the food and the service is first class. A special mention for Nell who despite the pub being quite full managed to serve everyone promptly and with a smile. Well done to the Chestnut once again.

Disabled spaces are poorly placed

I had a brilliant time here! The food tasted great and the alcohol was good. Big shoutout to Rupert, Lydia and Briony for being attentive and kind to me. All the staff were polite and delivered exceptional customer service. This pub is one of the best in Wolverhampton!

Loved the breakfast, cheap and lush. Go get it £7.99

Eaten here a few times before, no problems, but had a steak meal recently, the steak was the toughest I've ever tried to eat, even the steak knife wouldn't cut it, the wife's meal was the same, ordered rump steak but this was not rump, both steaks left not eaten. Won't go there again.

Fish and chips are a great lunchtime treat

My kids love going here they do a really good kids offer of £1 during the week for a dinner, last week they had a 40% off offer think this might still be running in January best to download the app to find all their offers. we have the burger, the chicken wrap and the kids had a kids mix grill.

Went with a friend for lunch and the food was excellent. Decided to stay and play bingo afterwards! Had a very enjoyable time

Food took ages, ordered gravy came out with southern gravy, asked and staff said they dont serve normal gravy????

Plenty of free tables at 5.30 on a Friday evening. No need to book a table. Meal deals and a great choice of meals and drinks. I had gammon and it came with egg AND pineapple!

The service and the food was great. Even the place was very busy at the time but all of our gammons was cooked perfectly. Compliments to the chef.

Pleasant staff - slow service - scampi & chips disappointing unfortunately - ( not crispy & fresh )although fish looked lovely. Coffee tasted good although lukewarm.

Incredibly loud speakers (2 speakers within 5ft of 4 tables played at max volume with the most morbid and depressing pub quiz I have ever heard) Ignored, if you reserve a table via the app (you need to know a member of staff personally to not be treated like a second class patron) Food is mostly premade off-site and heated before service. (It's tastes nice, but not worth the exaggerated cost) ... It's a typical franchised pub with nothing special to attract you. ... I would not bother. Unless you're into the lack of character in chain pubs these days. Edit: As a response to the disingenuous response by the owner. The booth that they said could not be provided was occupied by a party of 4 also. They really need to sort out their managements ethos. As for attending again, fine if you leave before 8:30 on a Wednesday.

We met friends for drinks and a meal and I’d like to say how impressed I was. Service was excellent, very polite and nothing was too much trouble. Our server was a very well turned out young man - Joseph - who was extremely pleasant throughout. Reasonably priced too, we will return

Often eat at the chestnut I find the service and food very good, got to know a couple of the staff quite well, Claire and Rupert, both work hard to make our experience a good one. I've enjoyed everything I've tried on the menu to date.

Arrived at the chestnut Tree to be greeted with smiling welcoming staff. We had booked the 3 course Boxing Day Christmas dinner. The starters were delicious, carvery Main was above par with hot plates. They didn’t skimp on the meat portions, all veg was fresh with all the extras. Our deserts were well presented and delicious. Extremely poor food. Starters were oily, the veggie burgers were bland, no cheese / lettuce or sauces. The chips were hard. The dessert was apple crumble (uncooked) with a tablespoon of custard. Honestly the food was 1/10. I will never visit this pub again.

Long time since I've been here. Average food, nothing to complain about. Didn't get the drink I asked for. Waitress didn't seem to know what I was asking for even though it's on the drinks menu. Very friendly and polite staff, but we waited a while initially to even get a drink. Nice Christmassy atmosphere created... but persistent rain outside and the ceiling started to leak in the corner by us💧 I would return.

Great food at a good price. Nice atmosphere, pre book a table as it gets very busy around lunch time. Free parking. Toilets are nice and clean. Staff are amazing. Pub is a sizzling pub.

Like the chestnut, but we had a coffee and it wasn't very warm so maybe time for a new machine.

Poor service,I was there with family and we had booked for 6.30,we didn't get our food till 8.10 we were ready to eat the table,we were going to have puddings but cancelled them as the wait was so long. The excuse given was that they were two parties in,ours had been booked for a few months beforehand. If you can't cope with numbers then don't take booking !.

The Chestnut is a proper community pub. It's open every morning with a very good breakfast menu which is sensibly priced. The pub is well attended throughout the day and is very busy with food orders. A very good selection of real ales, plus as mentioned a large food menu. All the meals seem to be very well presented and good quality. Staff are very friendly and efficient. In the bar area there's a darts board and a few TV screens which show live sports.

Great place , staff are lovely and great table service. I booked for my partners 40th and I dropped a ballon banners and table badges and a cake , they set it all up ready for when we arrived.

Booked meal for moms birthday, booked the wrong date. Turned up and they happily sorted a table for 10 of us. Staff are so quick to take orders and food is always amazing.

Very friendly environment staff can't do enough for the customers there Really welcoming towards family and large groups as long as its prebooked The managed to get myself family and extended family in for a family meal and adapted the space around us to acknowledge our requirements Plenty of options on the menu for meals of your choices and plenty for the children there to.

Food took so long our friends finished their meals before ours came out despite ordering at the same time. The hunters chicken was dry and chewy and the chips tasted funny.

The food was fresh and piping hot. There is a varied choice of lagers and beers. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Great service, nice food, good value

Went in for lunch today around 12.30 I usually only have breakfast here. Was told not to sit at the benches there’s only 2 of you we need them go by the door he will help seat you No reserve signs on the benches but lots of them on the other tables. Asked the person by the door is there a problem with us having lunch here today which he replied well yes we are busy the tables are all reserved for bingo at 2.00pm He offered us a small rable by the bar or one over the other side of the pub which we refused He had no problem in watching a family leave which was a regular customer in fact he seemed pleased we were leaving bingo was more important than us We won’t be returning

Long wait(at least 30 mins) for a big breakfast. When it finally arrived the food was luke warm, eggs overcooked and a mountain of butter sachets just placed on top of the food.

We popped into the pub after leaving IKEA for something to eat, what a lovely place, staff were really friendly and welcoming, prices on the menu were reasonable, and they did a carvery. You can eat outside or inside. The pub itself was spacious, you did not feel claustrophobic as you do on some eating establishments. Well recommended.

Fantastic quality and a great price

Food was pretty decent for pub grub, had a Greek wrap and was nice!! Pub is local and fairly decently priced! Menu isn't bad either, will come again!

Customer service need to improve

Go regularly for breakfast, lovely meals, nicely cooked, reasonably priced, very friendly and efficient staff.

Lovely early evening meal, table of sixteen for the local bowls club members. Excellent food and the staff were so friendly and helpful. I would give them a six star if I could.

Never been here before had some food dining voucher to use,plenty of parking,staff very pleasant and inviting,just acknowledging us even though they were busy serving at the bar,sat outside because it was a beautiful hot day,food and drinks very spot on,portions were big,quality was fantastic,server was really lovely to us,lots of friendly locals clearly coming n going,definately would visit here again
