CUSTOMERS TALK ABOUT DISHES WITH..roast

comment_iconOpinions

We heard they did a good Sunday roast, so decided to give them a try. Glad we did. The roast was fantastic. Proper home cooked food and not the precooked and reheated stuff a lot of the big chains serve up. We opted for the roast beef and the extra of cauliflower cheese with leaks and bacon and I highly recommend you try that as it was superb. Big thick slices of tender beef and nice roasties and an impressive range of veggies which consisted of parsnips, carrots, broccoli, swede and peas! Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Best roast dinner i've had in apub for a very long time. We look forward to going back!

What a gem of a pub/restaurant called in on the off chance we could get dinner, we were greeted by staff and other pub customers with a friendly hello and smile..we asked about meals and was shown the meals board, we chose our meals and drinks. So reasonably priced for it all and nothing was to much trouble, we would highly recommend to everyone of this family friendly place ,5* all round service, food and hospitality... We will be back soon for sure.

Honestly the best food! Me and my partner ran a very successful pub restaurant for 7 years so we claime to be quite the critics on restaurant’s and pub food! Visiting my parents we decided to pop out for their amazing valentines special! Which may I add is extremely cheap for the food and quality and quantity. The lady that served us, Kelly, was the warmest human being and the atmosphere was lovely! Highly highly recommend this place for the food, service and atmosphere. Also I must add a massive thank you to reighley who cook our food! Thank you so much for an amazing evening xxxx

The food served was absolutely amazing and the service exceptional. This was our first time at this restaurant and won't be our last. We cannot fault anything. The staff members were very accommodating and polite. There was easy accessibility for wheelchair users which was ideal for my grandparents. All in all a fabulous place to enjoy freshly prepared food and beverages. We had a warm welcome when we arrived there. We went here with friends and the food was lovely and we were really pleased with the food. All the food is cooked fresh and tasted very good. They helped me with my food as I have allergies, they made me feel very comfortable too. Nothing was too much trouble they just adapted it to suit me. All staff were attentive and friendly. Definitely recommend and going back there. The menu was extensive and imaginative. The food was excellent by any standards, well worth a visit. I recommend this pub to anyone, the food and drinks aren’t too expensive and are the right price to pay! Recommend it 100%!! And the social distancing was fabulous and all the staff were wearing face covering and everything, they did such a great job and they also had posters of being aware of coronavirus, in all different areas. Recommend this pub!!

Thoroughly enjoyed a freshly cooked roast Gammon dinner today. The meat was lean and perfectly cooked and the roast potatoes and gravy were particularly tasty. Will be back! Lost one rating as very noisy due to football fans drinking on adjacent tables. Dining in a quieter area would have been preferable. The staff were very efficient and friendly. Thanks

Went a few weeks ago for afternoon tea it was gorgeous as had heard good reports and was not disapointed .So decided to try their Xmas menu. Brilliant value for money beautifully cooked and presented. A group of eight of us has a really good.night out. Desserts were really nice and were homemade . We were also given a coffee each with little jug of brandy which ended our night out perfectly. Will definatly be going again soon.

This pub came under new management this year. This is the 4th time I’ve been to the pub this year , so I think my review is fair and not based on one visit. First visit was back in June 2019. Three of us stopped in for a drink whilst visiting the open gardens in Brightlingsea The public bar had a Tv on playing music and there was different music coming out of another 2 speakers in the same room. There was only the 3 of us in the bar. We asked for at least one of the Tv/radio to be turned off. We asked if they were doing food. We were told they could do ploughman’s. We ordered 3. The ham and cheese with the ploughman’s were top quality , very tasty but the bread was sliced brown , cheap and not conducive to a ploughman’s. A good chunk of bread or a baguette would have been better. A small detail I know but why not offer sandwiches if that’s the type of bread you’re going to use. Second visit was October for breakfast and to watch the England rugby game. Breakfast was lovely but fried egg was cold as was bacon. The ladies toilets were awful. One was blocked and the other didn’t flush properly. Had a few drinks in the public bar and it was a nice atmosphere. The Tv was on showing the game. The tv was also in in the saloon bar which was unnecessary. Next visit was for afternoon tea for 6 of us. We had heard good reports and weren’t disappointed. The food was excellent and plentiful. There was a broken toilet cistern outside one of the doors to the pub. I assumed the ladies toilets had been fixed. They hadn’t. They still didn’t flush and one of the handles was broken. On the back of the excellent food at the afternoon tea I booked for Sunday lunch , having been told that only the best cuts of meat were used. We both had pork which was very tender and obviously good quality. However there were only 2 very small slices (of loin) and the meat was cold. We were warned by the waitress that the plates were very hot , they weren’t! The roast potatoes were hot but the Yorkshire and the rest of the veggies were cold. The stuffing was straight out of a packet, rolled into a ball and nasty.( might have been better hot). The cauliflower cheese, which we paid extra for, was hot but nothing special. The puddings were fantastic, lovely apple pie and an excellent cheesecake. The tv was on in the saloon bar where we were eating, playing a music channel with the sound off! Annoying and unnecessary. On the way in to the pub the area outside was covered in cigarette butts and the ashtrays on the table outside were overflowing. There were half empty beer bottles strewn about and it looked very uninviting and dirty. The broken toilet cistern was still outside. The ladies toilets were still broken. There were so many people wandering about behind the bar and into the kitchen it was unclear who was cooking. Some of them looked a bit scruffy and had been smoking outside so it was off putting as to who was preparing/cooking our food The new owners have made an attempt to redecorate the interior but in the process have made it look a bit cheap and shabby. It looks a bit confused as to whether it’s a pub or a cafe. Mismatched tablecloths on badly painted tables ( grey or white) just look a bit dirty. The plastic IKEA type chairs don’t fit in anywhere and when the walls and woodwork have been painted ( in the same grey and white) it’s been done badly , splashed about and makes the place look cheap and uncared for. I really hope the new owners decide to pay more attention to detail as they are really nice people and I wish them luck but at the moment I think they will struggle to survive and get returning customers for anything other than the afternoon tea unless they make some changes , smarten the place up and get a good reputation.

I took a vulnerable person in to watch football. With in seconds of stepping in the bar we were told to "Fxxk off out the way, cxxt" & to get the retard out. Not the sort of place that's welcoming. We won't be going back.

I am sure it is fine for men but I feel uncomfortable in the company of people that use bad language. The landlord constantly used the F word. I won't visit again but I am sure hat my husband will call in for a pint if we are in the area again

I popped in on Friday night 18th September on the way to meet a friend that evening, most things came with chips or spuds, both of which I am avoiding so asked if they could do knock me up a Cajun Chicken with a 'beefed up salad' chef, was happy happy to oblige, service was a little confused as I was in the main 'sports bar' however they shifted me through to the resturaunt, chef even popped out to ask if it was OK, a huge thumbs up from me, he clearly cares about what he is producing, thick succulent pieces of chicken, on an excellent improvised salad......the Chef cares, and thats half the battle, they just need to sort their front of house service......staff seem a little disinterested, they have the makings of a very good buisness.
